  • We continue our Painting the Past series with another illustration by Jennie Anderson. This Hand Forger reconstruction was part of a collection of four that depict workers from the late 19th century that would have worked at the Globe Works in Sheffield. This particular illustration demonstrates the forging process of heating the metal and then it being hammered into shape.
At Wessex Archaeology, our talented in-house Studio team use a wide range of materials, from traditional hand drawings and watercolours to full 3D reconstructions, to bring archaeology to life. Our artists work closely with our specialists to accurately visualise past communities and landscapes based on the archaeology and environmental evidence we discover on site. These reconstructions are vital in our mission to depict the lives of people in the past and to share their stories.

Hand forger is an odd way to put it, perhaps settle with blacksmith?
