    Brilliant, I have been trying to find a non sensational video on the octopus heat pump system. This is exactly what I was after. I will be following along with interest. One thing though, they really should have measured the hot water tank for the size of the cupboard. Please, if you have the time, keep the updates coming and if you can, a comparison of cost between the old gas and the new heat pump. Thank you and hope it's all going swimmingly... octopus...get it.... Ok

      No worries, I will be posting updates on the gas vs electricity usage once its been running for a while. To be fair to them, the survey indicated we needed a taller slimline tank and a normal sized one got shipped so I suspect just a screw up in ordering. no matter itas all fixed now. Will keep you updated on my progress - good or bad.

    Nice short simple videos answering lots of questions we have about the install and of course later how it actually works for you. Obviously you could do without any problems occurring once it’s working but that in itself would provide further videos😂 (and more information for people hanging fire on similar installations like we are)
    Thank you.

      Glad it was helpful! there are always going to be snags but the team has handled them quickly and without fuss

    Good luck, hope it goes well, and someone was very thoughtful with the fan heaters. Hopefully when I get around to having mine installed I can avoid all the external cables and pipe work, as long as they are happy to site it where I think it will be going.

      yes it was a very nice thought and very needed :-). when i had my survey done, they did give me options but apparently it’s more efficient to put it where it’s sighted and that means cable runs

    Great to see the stages of the install. Did you get the choice of the cosy 6 as an option? if yes what made you decide on the daikin

      Yes if I waited a few more months. TBH I would rather have had a unit that has millions of hours of usage, been tested by thousands of customers than be a beta tester for the cosy 6. I love bleeding edge tech but if we end up with a cold house because something fails I will be in trouble with the family

      Does the alternative DHW cylinder have a different capacity? Are you happy with the substitute?

    • @JonathanTracey
      @JonathanTracey  6 днів тому +2

      yep all good it’s the same capacity just taller and slimmer

    How many kW is the pump and did it need a 3 phase supply please. I tried all the big energy companies including octopus and they wouldn’t supply me, the independents I tried wanted me to put in a a 3P supply and it became uneconomical.

    • @JonathanTracey
      @JonathanTracey  6 днів тому

      it’s a single phase 6kw heat pump. remember that’s the heat output not the electrical input. do you have a looped supply or an older 60amp fuse or something ?

      @ It’s not a massive house, nor is it some drafty Victorian detached, but the EPC estimated our heat loss was 18 kW. So everyone quotes me on that figure, anything greater than 14kW heat pumps require 3 phase so we are screwed. £30-£40k for a heat pump system for a £700 annual gas bill is madness. I tell the wife I keep the house cool for our Berners rather than being a tight wad!

      I've had a similar experience with octopus recently where they assessed my overall loss through a full survey at 21kW and 117w/m2. I found this hard to believe as my property whilst 4 beds and built in the 1960s, is not as heat leaky as a Victorian property with metal windows and no insulation! Other suppliers assessed my house at 12kW and my own HeatPunk survey also came up with 12 kW. The octopus assessor said he was new to this work and said his trade was as an electrician. He should have queried the results his tablet was giving him but he didn't have the domain knowledge or experience to do so. He didn't know what a Buffer or Volumiser Tank was and said I needed to run a domestic hot and cold feed to the heat pump in addition to the flow and return which I cannot find on any Heat pump data sheets or tech spec. He incorrectly said I would not need planning permission which I will for a 12kW pump. Octopus were adamant that the heat loss was 21 kW and said they couldn't supply me. I asked them to do a tech specialist review of the data but they declined. They need to up their game and train assessors properly to save wasting peoples time!

      @ it wasn’t just octopus that refused to survey, I had the same with BG and EDF. That’s even worse than mine!
      I’m getting a new EPC performed as it had expired, we have cavity wall insulation, double glazing and a decent loft insulation, so I can’t believe it’s as bad as they say. We moved sick parents in with us rather than placing them in care, so I’m applying for an eco4 flex grant and they survey as part of that. My gas costs were previously 25% that of friends I know living in small terraced houses, although my thermostat never goes above 12C!

      may be worth putting in a call and asking for another one. mine was very knowledgeable but my house is not that old and pretty well insulated
