the immense amount of arrogance that architect has, to not even admit his mistakes and offer counter measures to reduce its effect, but to instead shift the blame on "not having the tools to detect the problem", as if every other skyscraper in the world is a heatgun too, but to moreover show a lack of respect for a human's life just because he's enjoying in vegas, is beyond appalling

I think that is way around. British architect designs sail shape 7 stars hotel in Dubai takes all glory and bunch if civil engineers goes crazy how to compensate thermal expansion. They used eccentricate pivot point taken from automotive industry for static building.
I know. This is high school level simple physics. Don't build a concave surface that reflects the sun in potentially sunny area if you do not want death rays.
Vinoly's 'master plan' is building a series of curved buildings across the world angled so that when they all align perfectly into the sky at the right time with the moon in the proper position, the death rays come together at a single point and create a temperature hot enough to vaporize the moon
Look Viñoli. If you really want that parabolic curved esthetic on your death ray buildings, make sure to direct the concave part away from the Sun so no light can converge from any angle. Like north, if built in the northern hemisphere. The fact that a death ray building was designed and built facing the sun not once, but twice from the same architect! Almost feels like it was done on purpose.
Or, better still, choose a focal point where you have a reservoir instead of cars or sunbathers. That way you might be able to harness the solar energy, like that awesome French building.
@@YeppohTube google the "Solar Furnace of Uzbekistan" (youtube won't let post links in the comments). It uses Viñoli's "ideas" to reach temperatures of 3000 degrees using nothing but mirrors. I went there, it is fascinating

We have this issue in Phoenix, AZ. It’s not uncommon for homeowner’s to have burn marks in their turf from the sun’s rays reflecting off a neighbor’s windows.
No it IS uncommon, I've been here for 31 years and never even heard of that. I worked landscaping for almost 5 years. I never saw that in thousands of properties/yards.
Apparently this was also a problem (to a much lesser extent) with the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, designed by Frank Gehry. It’s curved stainless steel panels would make it quite blinding during the day and i believe they had to abrade many of the stainless panels to reduce the amount of light that they would reflect.
I was in London in June and every time the tour I was on drove by the ‘walkie talkie’ the tour director always talked about how much he hates the building. 😅
6:00 "There was a lack of tools or software that could be used to analyse the problem." Bruh the Death Ray came from Achimedes' time. And every middle schooler knows about parabolas.
it’s not just him - although his design choices are outrageous, the ‘big glass building’ design trend has only made this more common. in new york city, if you’re unlucky enough to be walking near hudson yards on a sunny day, you better hope you brought sunglasses.
Because he's using inflection to show he's not speaking as the narrator anymore for those brief sentences. No difference at the 5 minute mark but i somewhat see what you mean at 5:47 but it's purely the tone of voice.
the biggest crime is that nobody building it, converting the designs, printing the designs, showcasing the designs, shareholders, assistants, council workers, council planning auditors, contractors etc... even for a moment stopped to think about the fact both these buildings are shaped like giant magnifying glasses and what that could do once built.
vegas resident here, we frankly hate that place because of the death ray. asides from that we tend to not use our hotels, if you ever stay in vegas, PLEASE JUST GET A AIRBNB, THE HOTELS ARE ASS. the hotels are either overpriced or never cleaned properly.
It just shows how crucial careful planning and proper simulations are in architectural design to prevent such unintended and dangerous phenomena. A reminder of the responsibility architects hold in their hands.
