Considering Gideon’s and Seluvis’ vague former relationship, and that Ensha doesn’t talk at all. There is the possibility that Ensha is just a puppet of Gideon.
We find that unlikely given the background of his armor. It's not impossible though. It'd be a good theory if we could find anything concrete to back it up.
After seeing Ensha's unmasked model and saw his skin was green I knew he was dead. Gideon is a necromancer and i hope there is an incantation in the DLC where you can make fallen enemies fight for you, like in Skyrim
Ensha also doesn’t speak and is soulless, which both seem fitting for a puppet

When you are in Ensha's world the roundtable hold is dark because he can no longer see the light of grace that we can see.
I know Ensha technically has a face and character model under the armor, but given its description and the fact that there's no body after you defeat him I like to think Ensha was the armor itself, brought to life.
I mean, given the character uses body type B, Aka female, I think we can disregard any lore implications it would have anyway.
@@zergray6851 I think our "Ensha" is actually just Ensha's former protector, who failed and was made a puppet by Gideon via his former connection with Seluvis. Maybe even fashioned the armor out of the real Ensha and had her wear it as a sick joke.

I always liked the choice of words, "...as his master, I'd like to express my regret." because it could be interpreted as an apology, but alternatively, he could regret that the atempt on your life failed.

Off topic slightly but I wish instead of having to fight Ensha, he attacks you and is then struck down by some sort of incantation placed on the hold for betraying the ceasefire. It would just make more sense to me why notorious serial killer dungeater is happy to abide it but some edgelord flips his shit over a medallion.
The version of the Roundtable Hold we fight him in is somehow different. It's almost as if he somehow hijacked us on our way to the hold. Probably within the realm of things Gideon has studied.
Also the dungeater cannot attack anyone, he even states this when you meet him. He says the host of the area is compelling him or something, and until they die he is stuck there. It’s implied the Two Fingers are the host, so he became stuck, separate from his own body until an outside force intervenes.

It has to be in the erdtree. The royndtable we go to. Its the only other place smoldering. Unless its a way for the devs to represent you burned the tree. But why would the hold be smoldering if it wasnt in the tree.

I swear, Gideon be getting senile in his old age. Though I do like he's just like 'Oh, sorry about that old chap' after his bodyguard tries to kill you. Though it does estalbish Gideon as the kind of man who just readily discards people the second they stop being useful to him.
He literally says "It seems like Ensha's got rather ahead of himself." - so him attacking you was planned, just for a later date - Gideon doesn't even hide it.

But I got to say I find him one of the most interesting out of a lot of the other tarnished, like why he’s even tarnished, and what his motives truly are for or what he found on his quest for it(he’s the only other one that might know marika’s plan, similarly to Master Hewg)
I think the Soulless King mention in Ensha’s armour was a former regal figure for those who live in death. ‘Soulless’ being an obvious connection, but also the armour’s unique ability to heal the wearer when close to death seemingly being a way for the king to resist a proper death, and the jewel(?) placed in the centre of the forehead bares remarkable similarities to the eye-like growth seen on Godwyn’s corpse (further leading me to believe the Prince of Death isn’t a title, but a creature born of royalty that failed to die properly)
One interesting aspect of Ensha’s character is the inherent irony that’s embedded in his existence:
As mentioned in the video, it seems that Ensha has taken the former body of a past king. It is also mentioned that this past king was a “lord of the lost and desperate”. It’s ironic then that Ensha has essentially appropriated this lord’s remains to become the polar opposite. Instead of being a “lord” or some sort of leader to the lost and desperate, all we see Ensha do is oppress and murder them.

the cursemongers probably refer to the omen hunters and the perfumer, both of which can be found at the village. maybe ensha led them?

Omenkillers are known for their cruelty so it makes sense that one would agree to help massacre a village for a little rune incentive. And the depraved perfumer is well... depraved. They even brought attack hounds.
I like the fact that Gideon was sitting in his office, one minute ensha is standing out on guard, the next he’s gone. Five minutes pass and the Tarnished shows up with a look of contempt.
“I got the two medallions, and I killed that edgelord of yours that tried to steal it from me, try that again and i’ll make sure theres one thing you’d wish you never knew about me.”
If I remember correctly the mausoleum sets reference a soulless God/demigod, as well as the death birds which provide a low-health buff like enshas set
There is a strong possibility Ensha is a puppet. Gideon knows Seluvis, the puppermaster, and they have history together. Also like puppets, Ensha never speaks. It's entirely possible that Gideon was merely operating through Ensha.

I believe Gideon may be the "All Hearing", as in the opening cinematic of the game we can see his casket filled with severed ears.
it seems like he should be, but knowing that Ensha led the attack on the village and the finger reader crone referring to the all-hearing as the one who attacked the village seems to solidify it as Ensha. Latenna also calls the person who attacked her the all-hearing and we know Gideon doesnt do his own dirty work.

He's even terrible at PvP like most real edgelords. One minor error though is his build isn't a completely toxic bloodhound step RoB combo.
There’s already a ROB npc, also ROB users aren’t smart enough to switch to another weapon mid fight to use Bloodhounds Step.
Ensha is basically a Darkwraith without the art of Lifedrain.
Saw a video with some really interesting takes on Ensha either being Godwyn himself or that his armor is made from the Golden bones of Godwyn.
I honestly think so much related to madness was cut in the game and it makes me sad lol.
I think Vyke was the champion of the roundtable, and when he went crazy, there were sacrifices made to lock him away. Ensha of course being Gideons hit man and spy. Using pawns so he himself looks clean.
Ensha also has at least 2 connections to Death Birds that I’ve noticed:
- his armor; it’s the only set that offers a perk while at low health. The only other items that do this (Twinbird Kite Shield + Red-Feathered and Blue-Feathered Branchsword) are dropped by Death Birds. Also his armor appears to be burnt; Death Birds tended to death by burning bodies with ghostflame.
- his weapon; the Clinging Bone is said to dig into the fists of the wearer. The Skeletal Mask is also said to dig into the wearer’s face. That mask is worn by Ravenmount Assassins, who dress in the likeness of Death Birds.
I think it’s also telling that he uses gravity sorcery; it implies that he may have studied at Caria Manor and the “Royal” part of “Royal Remains” might refer to the Carian Royalty. Unfortunately I haven’t been able to find anything else to tie Ensha to the Carian Royals and this link isn’t super strong without more supporting details.
I think Sellia might have been more involved with gravity magic, but you have some good points!
@@alyandthecats Selia's specialized in the semi-invisible, un-dodgeable "night" sorceries. The Carian Royal House created sorceries that drew power from the moon rather than energy of the stars like ordinary glintstone sorceries. Gravity magic doesn't seem to have a human source---General Radahn learned his gravity magic from a teacher who was an "Alabaster Lord" which seem to be a race of living stone creature.
It is possible that Selia knew about the Alabaster Lords and thus directed Radahn (who was of the Caria Royal House, although he forged his own powerful faction prior to being infected by the Scarlet Rot) to this Lord who took him as an apprentice. They seem to specialize in obscure and subtle magic and knowledge, so I suppose in a way Selia is responsible for gravity magic?
I think it’s rather more likely Gideon simply gave him the magic, given gravity is the only demigod magic he doesn’t use iirc.
@@brandonwilliams4050 I think its perfectly possible sellia specializes in both night and gravity sorceries, given you find the meteorite staff and rock sling spells close to the town and the rememberance of the starscourge literally saying radhan studied gravity soceries *in* sellia.
The alabaster lord he learned from resided in sellia and teaches gravity sorceries, other sorcery masters in sellia teach night magic. the town was probably big enough for more than one teacher there.
This makes sense given the royal academy refuses to teach anything but glintstone sorceries unless you crawl on your hands and knees. they are purists. They are so up in arms about it they locked up renalla for worshipping the moon instead and make the lazuli conspectus wear sinners robes for also studying carian magic, which they have to admit are potent because the cockoo knights got their asses handed to them by the carians.
Selia take a more heterodox approach to magic so they probably recognised the asset an alabaster lord instructor would be and let him teach there, even if he was non-human. Also having a gravity sorcery teacher is probably a good idea if your town is prophesised to be destroyed by a meteorite.
Ensha And Gideon feel like an Anime villian characters
Gideon: *Sends Ensha to look for Medalion*
Ensha: *Goes to village to search for Medalion*
Ensha: *Ask kindly where is the Medalion he is looking for*
Also Ensha: *Proceeds to murder entire village when he hears response that they do not know where the medalion he looks for is*
Tarnished: *Finds Medalion*
Gideon: *Sends Ensha to kill tarnished and take the medalion but unfornetly dies*
Also Gideon: *battles tarnished and dies at the end*

Interesting, if a bit of a reach. The "All Hearing" is a direct, if slightly obfuscated reference to Gideon. If you look closely at his armor set you'll notice the "beard" on the helm and the lower waist(below the eyes) decoration are actually ears. All-Seeing+All-Hearing=All Knowing.
Ensha may have been in on the Albinauric Massacre, but Gideon killed Lobo, which is why I have zero regrets merc'ing him.
From what we know of Gideon he never leaves the hold or gets his hands dirty, he has people to do that for him until the very end. The all-hearing points toward Ensha as we know he is the one that attacked the albinauric village on Gideon's orders and the finger reader crone calls the person who conducted the attack the all-hearing. Nepheli says her father ordered his servants to attack the town, so he was not there with them, hence he cannot be the all-hearing.
I never noticed how weird it was thinking that everyone would know Gideon was behind it. I doubt ensha told them so it is quite interesting
Fun fact: the all hearing brute line has a cut variation, completely identical to the release iteration except at the end it states “I told the b*stard in the bone armor”. Pretty well confirms the connection
Id have to disagree with this statement, enia’s dialogue when giving you the talisman pouch states she has only seen 2 runes together once, and then immediately states that the fingers expect the same from you as Gideon now. This pretty heavily implies Gideon must have two great runes.

It's also covered in eyes. The characters who refer to the all-hearing are speaking specifically about the person carrying out attacks, not the person directing them. That would make Ensha the all-hearing.
Based on the fact Nepheli says she had witnessed such a slaughter as a child, and Ensha is (likely) a puppet made by Seluvis for Gideon when they were still friends, this likely implies that Gideon used Ensha (or similar means) to slaughter Nepheli's entire village before abducting her as his own "daughter". Which since she turns out to be the rightful heir of Limgrave, would actually make sense as to why he would've kidnapped her as a child (since we know by game end that everything he does is for selfish/evil gains). This would also explain why after the village where you get part of the medallion, and after you kill Ensha in the RoundTable, that Nepheli seems depressed/despondent and is located as far from Gideon within the hold as possible. As she likely has put two & two together and realized that her "father" probably murdered her family/village.
So if I had to take a wild guess, it was Gideon controlling Ensha who tried to murder us when we returned to the hold. Then after dispatching Ensha, that is why Gideon seems so vague and unconcerned with Ensha "dying". Because he was just trying to get us out of the way, and now he realizes we're either too useful or too dangerous to kill. But what ties this all together is how it also explains why Gideon knew EXACTLY where Latenna was located if you talk to him after killing Ensha.
Which means if everything went to plan, Gideon would likely have tried to become Elden Lord and then using the fact Nepheli is rightful heir to Limgrave, would've plopped his "daughter" on the throne and basically had unquestioned authority/control of at least half of the lands right out of the gate.
How curious! When Latenna spoke of an All-Hearing brute I was uncertain who it could mean, since I never heard or read anything that would point to Gideon being called such a title. A similar thing, the Finger Reader Crone saying "The All Hearing slaughtered" made me think that the Albinaurics were the All Hearing who got slaughtered.
What I'd consider problematic with these games, for me, is that once I get an idea in my head and not realise that what I think is wrong, I'd never change my mind to look for another solution, and thus many things are forever barred from me.
I got this from the japanese forums so sorry for the bad English. Ensha's face reveal shows that he has dark elf features like the alabaster lords that cast gravity magic. not many humanoids can wield gravity magic cept "dark elves" like ensha, radahn who was praised for pulling it off and the original alabaster lords that is covered in frenzy finger burns that came from a meteor. it is speculated that albanaurics are unpure descendants of alabaster lords when they reigned during their expansion after their own world is burned and ensha's interest is to restore his royal bloodline. that's why he cares about the medallions you need to restore natural birth again for the albernaurics up north with those crippled wolf girls because obvious measure were taken to ban it.

Vyke, Ensha and Witch Hunter Jeren are all on the cover of the game, yet despite their background lore, they don’t seem to offer much in the way of story(Vyke even seems to have much greater importance due to his position in the image and the other promotional cover with him and the frenzied flame). I wonder what FromSoft is trying to tell us with that cover?

It’s amazing how the smallest of things have such direct connection to the lore of Elden ring. How where the smaller minion enemies can be found in the lands between have a reason for their presence there and not just placed randomly
You know, I had that guy pegged as a smug asshole. The amount of times I've been jumped by him is a lot lol, I'll usually make a trip to the Roundtable when on Autopilot, or when trying to step away for a moment, so everytime he's fought me, I've only barely survived

If Ensha did fight Vyke it seem to be before he took on the frenzied flame since Vyke armor doesn't have the scorched mark it might have been just like us he randomly attacked Vyke since he was angry for some reason or to prevent Vyke from getting to the 3 figures but was unsuccessful where he got the scorch marks and was eventually locked in the lords contenders everjail by a different group possibly Morgott

It's possible that Ensha is a Selivus puppet. Selivus and Gideon used to be pals. We learn aboot their relationship in the description of Dolores' ashes, and if you give Gideon Selivus' potion.

I always assumed the "all hearing brute" was the Bloodhound Knight we have to kill to get to Latenna.
I used to think this as well.
The title “all-hearing” could either refer to Ensha’s job of relaying information to Gideon or another way of saying that Ensha is mute. Seeing as Albus and Latenna probably wouldn’t know about Ensha’s connection to Gideon, I tend to think it’s the latter.
The village of albinurics has an additional connection to perfumers and has an Omen Slayer. Is there ever more of a connection between them and Gideon?
They were certainly working under his direction, but we dont think that speaks to ALL perfumers and Omenkillers. Gideon has many different kinds of individuals in his employ.
For what its worth, there are omenkillers and perfumers in Leyndell, where the physical version of the roundtable lies. If we presume gideon was part of the roundtable before it got turned into a pocket dimension, he would have frequented leyndell and maybe met them there and have made connections.

yea my first playthrough was great I was interested and just in constant awe of the game and its beauty but confusion on who tf was margit and morgot but on my second character I realized I had left out 50% of the game and found much much more in my second game
I like the theory that ensha is mute because Alberich, tired of being ridiculed, cut off his tongue and that is the taunter's tongue item.
One piece of dialogue from Gideon that stuck with me is his claim that Ensha "got ahead of himself". Seems to me like Gideon had plans to have him take you out once you had served your usefulness, but Ensha enacts the plan early. I think Gideon wants to let you accomplish as much as you can in the Lands Between so he can learn from you and allow you to clear some roadblocks for him before ultimately trying to stop you so that he can remain among the most powerful Tarnished. Ensha doesn't know the full extent of his plan and so instead focuses on claiming the full Haligtree Medallion, at least half of which you have when he attacks you.

I had a feeling that Ensha was going to try something sooner or later the first time I saw him. I was like “yyyeeeahhh this guy looks sketchy”
I know I’m super late to this video but if you look at sir gideons helmet the bottom is covered in ears. He’s also covered in ears in his grave in the beginning cut scene. So I’m guessing that’s a direct reference to him being the one referred to as the all hearing
Gideon's helmet is covered in eyes and ears. You can also see in the grave full of ears, he is holding a box full of eyes. Ensha is Gideon's ears on the ground and is the one who hunted down Latenna, hence why she is likely referring to him as "all-hearing." Also, Gideon doesn't leave the Roundtable Hold, so it's unlikely she'd be able to tell him anything directly.
@@square-table-gaming That’s purely speculation though, there isn’t any evidence that suggests ensha is the all hearing anywhere. The game basically throws evidence at us saying Gideon is the all hearing. But I guess it doesn’t matter, we’re all just guessing at this point.

This video has just gone and reinforced my want for a dlc based on those who live in death along with their realm outside of the erdtree and the lands between. (this realm is mentioned in the description of the "Helphen's Steeple" greatsword.)
They overstepped through the master of gravity magic caught me off guard I was ready to slay their master as well he was lucky I still needed him alive for information nothing more

Seems that Gideon also employed other people to his gang to do his dirty work, such as the depraved perfumer and the omenkiller we find in the albanuric village. They were probably just paid as mercenaries and led by Ensha to massacre the village.
Seems like he may be the original dark lord, that kaathe spoke of maybe, as he has the life drain and kaathe said the original lord had those powers. Ensha is also a great enemy of all things
Maybe, just MAYBE, Ensha's story is not so uncomplicated. What if this is not simply Gideon's hitman? I like to think that he is seeking the Haligtree for his own ends, and like us, has fallen into Gideon's service out of mutual convenience. It'd explain why he jumped the gun and tried to take your medallion without authorization. Maybe he too seeks the throne, to bring about an age of Unalloyed Gold... and become Lord of the Lost and the Desperate. Perhaps he thinks that any means would justify those ends.
I CANNOT BELIEVE, I missed Enshas armor set in my first playthrough. I tried to make sure I collected almost everything I could find in my first playthrough of Elden Ring, and SOMEHOW missed his armor after killing him. Damn Im dense

Ensha The forgotten king wearing the ashes of his former life serving under a snake that says he knows all but eventually would meet his end by a tarnished that carries no name but only the weapon that is on his waist. Also he was an edge Lord.😺
In the Elden Ring background screen where you see Vyke in the center on his knees with his sword, you can also see Ensha lying on the ground to the left. At least, it's the same armor set, not necessarily the same person, depending on how you look at it. Wonder why.
We talk about that a little bit in our Vyke video. We DO have a theory.
While I like this video a lot, I wanted to add my personal theory about Ensha’s origins:
I personally believe he IS the soulless king. Possibly also a member of Those Who Live in Death, his armor is not simply armor, but his full body, imagine that, similar to Vyke, his skeleton was possibly burned and fused with his armor, causing his current appearance. It could also explain why he doesn’t talk, as the other ‘soulless’ character we know about, Godwyn, is unable to communicate and simply acts on instinct, spreading the death root.
I think Gideon is guiding the soulless Ensha like a puppet, adding even more to Gideon’s wickedness. We also get other armor pieces that include parts of a character, such as the Elden Lord set having Godfrey’s hair or Blaidd’s set featuring his wolf head, so the existence of Ensha’s armor set doesn’t disprove this.
Granted, this is just my personal theory, and I’d love to hear your ideas about this.
I think the only piece of concrete evidence we've got to disprove this theory would be the face models of every character in Elden Ring. Fromsoft created actual faces for every character and Ensha does have a specific model underneath his helmet. If we put that aside it's a compelling theory.

cool theory tho, although one thung i noticed is that the armor has patches of a skeleton being revealed and some orange bits that look like rust, idk what it could mean exactly but it doesnt look like enshas skeleton was burnt into the armor

@@square-table-gaming While this is fair, Vyke has a face data model that doesn’t have part of his head burnt and singed through his helmet, so it’s not always 100% lore accurate.

This was my initial thought as well but the finger reader crone mentions the all hearing led the attack on the albinauric village and we know Gideon was not there.
@@square-table-gaming i mean you could also use the word "led" in indirect ways, like a general leading his army while not being directly on the frontline himself, or a strategist leading indirectly by using pawns, which for me is what it seems like gideon is doing, hes old and dusty, not fit for fighting directly, plus its just not his style. he fights with information and having his own private army, you can find a chestpiece in the boss room of rykard which gives that more weight as well. he basically has his own private force filled with ensha, the omen killers, normal soldiers with custom arms fitted for gideons forces, and gods know where else he has eyes and ears?
When I first interacted with Ensha I was like geez talk about ass hole and then I did that thing where I default to trying to give people the benefit of a doubt. I started going through a list of reasons for his behaviors. 1)He's mute. I mean we have a lot of people with technical disabilities in game as is. So why not? 2)He's holding off on speaking because he believes to only speak when it's important and might give us essential information later.
So I just left him be and honestly forgot about him until he tried to off us 😅

The roundtable we fight Ensha in is somehow different. Almost like a pocket dimension. Thinks of it like the roundtable we can find in leyndell, there's nothing keeping us from fighting there.

I think it's still entirely possible that Ensha's armor is a manifestation of Godwyn's remains as you can find multiple bodies or extensions of him across The Lands Between
The only issue is Godwyn is the soulless prince, not a king
The bones are also said to be ancient.
Now granted the lands between seem to ahve no concept of time we can understand anyway, but ancient make me think it predates the golden lineage, maybe even the age of the erdtree.
I haven't even reached endgame content in ER yet, I only get to play here and there, but each video I watch like this, and just weird stuff that happens to me in-game makes me feel like doing a villain arc on my first character 'cause this golden order and the roundtable hold folks are getting a little suspicious to me lol

Haven't tried this myself, but I believe others have said they never get invaded by Ensha. My guess would be that the game would still have him attack after you get half of the haligtree medallion as it's set up to trigger the event on item drop.
I did this on ng+, she doesnt invade

We were definitely pulled into an alternate round table that didn't have any protections. That explains the black rooms and the fact that were warped out of it after defeating him

It says that Ensha was "an ancient soulless king"... That "soulless" part makes me wonder... Was he soulless already when he was a king (why?), did he become ike this later, when bound to his armor and in Gideon's service? So many questions so little answers...
I didn't care much about him, but today Ensha was brought up by some people I know, that's why I'm here rewatching the video 😏 Really interesting to speculate. Godwyn is the most famous soulless demigod, but there are others, presumably.

hmmm, if "Ensha" is just a hitman for Gideon then perhaps the title "the all knowing" knows how to procure that blasphemous drink that Seluvis had and used it to "Ensha" because "Ensha" lacks ambition or some kind of will and thats how puppets are.
We've thought through this but Gideon does say Ensha got ahead of himself in attacking us which would show some agency on his part.
