    After I lost my wife to cancer, I hired a housekeeper out of desperation, She was an ex-felon (Drug possession, now clean) who couldn't get a job. What was I thinking? I was very nervous
    about inviting her into my house. I have 2 kids and valuables. But I was in need of immediate help. Well, it turned out great. She is high energy, positive, and super detailed. And we got along great after getting to know each other. Even friends. The kids like her. I'm still nervous that she might "relapse", but thus far she has been a life saver for us.

      Sorry for your loss but I think that was great of you to hire her and help her out I’m young I’m only 16 I got into some trouble last year in I was paying for it this year but I think that was very sweet of you to not judge her and give her a chance to prove she got what it takes to be a maid thats the nicest thing I’ve ever heard 🙏💚💯

    Yes, we love tips! I clean on the side while I'm attending grad school, and my favorite customer never micromanages, tips generously, doesn't have a cluttered home, and makes sure I'm comfortable (gives me permission to listen to music out loud and to help myself to a drink from her fridge).

      Hi Andrea, it's true that many cleaning companies also employ house cleaners. Not only do they appreciate having the service, but being a customer lends a new perspective to the scope of their business. Thanks for watching. It's great to have you here. 😄

    Love the vid! It's sad that it has to be said that housekeepers are motivated by money. My mom was a housekeeper and while she had great clients, I've heard enough stories from other domestics (housekeeper, nannies, etc.) having clients that honestly believe that their employ was for no other reason than to be their for them [client] because they were "so special."

    This is helpful! I'm wondering if it makes more sense to hire a maid quarterly for a great big deep clean, or hire a maid every 2 weeks for regular cleaning. I'd love a video on the pros and cons!!

    • @AskAngelaBrown
      @AskAngelaBrown  3 роки тому +4

      If you're going to hire a maid hire them to do both. Many cleaning companies have a maintenance clean package (every two weeks) and then a deep clean package (once a quarter) and they are two completely different services.

    The idea of taking care of those that work for you is great, but much of this advice seems centered around giving the housekeeper what they want and making THEM comfortable, not how to get what you need out of the deal as the hiring party. I think it would have been helpful to discuss more interviewing tips, and how to manage the relationship from the start more carefully so both parties are satisfied. Throwing money at the situation doesn't necessarily mean you'll be happy with the outcome. The person paying the bill needs to be content, too.

    I’m super confused about what maids will and won’t do. I need someone to help me keep on top of things like dishes and laundry and keeping things off the floors, I don’t really need mopping and dusting as much. But a lot of maid services...it looks like they don’t do that? Should I be looking for a different type of service?

      You can tip whatever you feel is fair. There is no standard in the industry, but money is a way of saying "Thanks". Vote for your house cleaner with your money. And let them earn the tip.

    "why do you want to hire a maid?" isn't a deep question. It's not something that needs a lot of thought.

    • @jessicawind8183

      It can be. Are you needing a deep clean like getting your rugs or drapes cleaned? Are you needing just simple light vacuuming or high dusting done? Do you need someone to wash cupboards, doors and floors? Having a clean house takes lots of work and it can cost you. The real question you are asking yourself is "what am i truly not willing to upkeep that i need to hire someone for?" Thats going to tell you how long it will take a professional to do it for you and why it costs that much money.

    Tips????"!!! You are demanding between 25-60 dollars an hour AND expect to get tips? Really? What if the homeowner doesn't tip? Do you then justify the crappy job and sullen attitude the homeowner is bound to get from you on your so-called professionalism, that you claim to have, being somehow violated? What an entitled crock of horse manure.

      I don’t understand tips either. Just ask for the full amount I need to pay. Be honest. Then I think everyone should pay out 1 week (as everyone deserves 1 week of days off) (so 1 week pay around Christmas). That’s fair.

    • @williejohnson5172
      @williejohnson5172 Рік тому

      @@laraantipova389 : That's beyond fair. That's overly generous. This makes sense to me if you were her/his boss. But you aren't. You are a client. She is an independent operator. Now some people may feel the same way about hiring a maid as they do about going to the barber or beautician where tips can be somewhat customary. But to me for an independent contractor charging 60 dollars an hour to be talking about tips is just the height of entitlement.

      @@williejohnson5172 I don’t understand how everyone needs a tip now. It’s too much. I understand restaurants because they are stuck making nothing so 20% of your bill is their pay and if you don’t pay it they literally can’t pay their bills, BUT now I am asked to tip for buying a bag of coffee,
      a loaf of bread, tip for a drive thru car wash (done by machines except the person who stands by the credit card machine (inexplicably), I mean am I supposed to tip roofers, lawn service, painters, etc? And why? I am not tipped by my boss, it’s enough to get a conversation 2X a year, but I am supposed to tip a maid? If you need $300 just say it. Give me the amount I need to pay you.

    • @williejohnson5172
      @williejohnson5172 Рік тому

      @@laraantipova389 Totally agree. I understand tipping waitresses and waiters but now we have to tip Starbucks clerks??? And what really drives me crazy is when you don't tip these ancillary staff they give you this look of disdain and crappy attitude to the point you begin to suspect your order or whatever the service they are providing. I can almost guarantee if you hire a person who expects tips and you don't tip you will get crappy service and that includes maids. Again, the sense of entitlement drives me crazy.
