It's a nice cheap alternative. I have a Chevy Volt 2nd Gen. I didn't know I could use a dryer outlet when I first was shopping for EVSE back in 2017. I paid $380 for a Clipper Creek and $200 for an Electrician to install it. It malfunctioned shortly after the 3 year warranty. I have been using the slow 120v charging at 12 amps for the past 2 years. I was browsing around today and saw this Lectron on Amazon and thinking about getting it. It is $179.99. That is a lot more reasonable than forking over another $4-500.
Thanks for the review, its good to know there are cheaper options out there. Thankfully my state has an incentive for EV owners which gives us $500 to install a Level 2 charger at home.
Is that your favorite charger? I may buy either a charger to go from a Nema 14-50 to a Bolt, or an adapter to go from a NACS Tesla charger to a Bolt. Just curious what you think about options. Thank you.
My house already had a 240v outlet installed for the previous dryer, but the new dryer doesn't use that outlet anymore, so I use it to plug in the evse charger
if you only plug it into the AC power and do not connect the charger to the car which lights do you see ON. The manual says both POWER and CONNECTED should both be on even before you plug it into the car - is this true ? I bought the charger set it up but my car is coming in a few days and was just wondering the the charger is defective.
Sorry for the late reply. But when mine is plugged into the wall and not the car, only the red power light is on, and it works great still 3 years later
Yes this is good to know. I even emailed the company and they are saying that both lights should be on even before connecting to the car … they should really know their product and how it works. It’s good to hear that it’s been working out for you for years .. great video by the way.
Just got a 2023 Bolt EV 2LT, I think this is the charger I was looking at. I need it for a portable on the go charger. Do you think this will be ok for that?
Hey can you just leave the lectron plugged in all the time and then just connect to the car when needed? That’s what I’m reading online. People say it’s fine to leave the plug connected and that it’s actually not good to plug and unplug it often as the grip gets loose. I just got this installed and just wanting to be safe Also have you seen any customer service # for lectron ? Thanks
Should be fine! Just like a dryer that plugs in, you don't unplug it every time you're not using the dryer right? I don't know for sure, but I'd assume that would be the fine
I'll give ya sub for the Bolt content. I drive a Volt myself, and have a Juicebox Pro 40 for it and a future BEV.
Appreciate the sub! How you like the volt?

It's the only charger I've ever used at home. After 3 years, works exactly the same
@@GnarlyKnots k thx
Hello friend, can you explain how you made the connection behind your washer dryer please

Does the estimated charging completion time shown on the dash show correctly? Since this is a 16amp charger instead of their standard 32amp.
Yes

I wouldn't recommend this specific one for on the go because you need a 240v outlet. I'd look for a regular plug charger which it comes with one
@@GnarlyKnots I work at a bar with food trucks, and their plug ins are 240v 50 amp with a NEMA 14-50 plug. That should work, right?
@chefltf yeah that'll work just buy the exact plug to the outlet. There's a few types of n nema 240v
Did you use the credit from Chevy for this?
My area had either a 500 dollar charger installed in your home, or 500 dollars in charge credit. I took the charge credit

Are you still using this charger? I'm curious how long these are lasting. Some people have had theirs crap out at 1-2 years.
Yeah still using it!
How long it takes for level 2 to fully charged?
Well I never let my battery get below 70 miles. So if I charge from there, it takes about 12-13 hours to fully charge.
@@GnarlyKnots 12 to 13 hrs for a level 2 charge? That's what it takes for my level one charger for my jeep 4xe
@@raracuzz1358 you are dumb because the jeep isnt all electric. It only has a 17kwh battery as his bolt has a 60kwh
What did you say you get 15 to 20 miles an hour?? Just bought that charger for my bolt.
Yeah usually about 15 miles of charge per hour
@@GnarlyKnots No way, I get about 7 miles per hour, it's only a little faster than my level 1
free chargeing from home on 2022 bolt euv lt. ?
Not free when there's an electric bill
If that cord is getting warm, you have an issue.
How many kWh does the car shows?
I was going to ask that too. I'm assuming 4kw, but I could be wrong
I was confused on the original question if it was while charging or the cars full kw. You're right while charging its about 4 kwh
Somewhere, an electrician is hyperventilating in a bag.
Suggest you NOT coil the cord as this could promote inductive resistance -> additional heat/fire danger.
