I don't know who is the narrator but her voice is pure asmr.
Agreed. I could fall asleep listening to her voice :p
She has a moderate Maryland accent. Hope that helps inquiring minds.
How can you tell?? I've lived in Maryland over 25 years, still can't distinguish accents
She seems like an audio book reader and I love it
That's exactly what I was thinking. I started watching this video and within a minute I was starting to close my eyes. Lol. The music and her voice were very soothing.
I'mma say it. WW1 Young Women's outfits were nicer than some nowadays clothes
I don't hate pants, but pants are too tight and hurtful to move nowadays. 😬
Because they were better quality and handmade, not corporate crap.
@@caomhan84 I agree with you
@@CantEscapeFlorida that's also true
Nowadays they don't wear anything
Soft, feminine and romantic. Love it.
@fredo Fred someone's mad, you don't have to be rude about someone's opinion, if you don't like it just leave it and argue with yourself 🙄
@Marcelo Gianbaptiste someone can have their own opinion, you cannot judge. those styles were better than nowadays style which is women used some clothes like a whore.
Marcelo Gianbaptiste no one asked you
Marcelo Gianbaptiste - lmao granny prude? get over yourself 😂
Smelled like hell probably
Man I wish girls could still dress like this without being called ‘grandma’ because this is actually really pretty
It is beautiful, and the true beauty of it will be seen by those who appreciate it! Give it a try, if that's what you're considering.
i honestly prefer girls who dress more like that than the ones wearing only jeans that are thight af and a very very VERY short t-shirt or whatever
Spygineer “I’M NOt LiKE OtHer GiRlS, I WEaR JeAaAaaNSssSsSs,,,,!,,!,!,
@@strwberry_xoxo exactly lol
Lots of these girls also wished to get out of the fashion too so it’s a mixed thought
"Wow that's a great cardigan I really wish I could knit--" "If you would like to create any of the knitwear you've seen yourself, you can find many of these patterns in our book." Well, I guess you guys know your audience! Lovely video, as always
Which sweater did you like? My favorites were the first one and the one word by the woman with the side braid.
Except the sweater she wears doesn’t seem to be in the book.
I've never been so impress by an ad placement! hahahah
It is on s.25 in the book (Violet's Jacket)
Morgan Rabe It was perfect timing and not annoying 😆
I remember when i was in the last year of primary school (age 10) and we were to go on a school trip to the black country museum in Birmingham to a living Victorian village. We were required to dress as Victorian children and my mother was a seamstress for many years and she sewed me the most realistic uniform that she could and I got extra credit for my uniform but I forgot my wool tights and I was absolutely freezing for the whole trip. I will never forget my mother's pride in sewing me that beautiful costume but because I forgot my tights it was absolute hell. I never told her that of course.
Oooh! I am in love with the Victorian era! Though I have sewn a few dresses over the summer holidays last year, I still need to make a panniers (hip pad, not 1700’s French crinoline)
@@madamebluebell4597 I'm in love with the victorian era too lol
@@lsmith3557 It is in Birmingham, UK -- not Alabama. It is an old mining area.
@@lsmith3557 I see!
I wish I could dress up so calmly and gracefully
Whose stopping you?
M N F my alarm and my job, probably
Same. When I’m getting dressed I usually am in a state of panic.
Laying out clothing helps a lot. I lay them out before bed every night and I feel so much better in the morning.
Search up the Victorian era couple
It’s kinda funny because the “bra” they wore looks like a shirt some teen would wear in the summer
@@evelina.gukasyan It's all right to have preferences, but shaming is uncallled for.
@@evelina.gukasyan being comfortable in your own body and dressing the way you want without restrictions isn’t disgusting but ok 👌🏻 its nice to have the freedom to dress however you want without other ppl telling you to cover up. its 2020, grow up
@@idbekate Yes it is 2020. We are living in the end times where people have no shame, no modesty, homosexuality is praised, lawlessness.. Jesus Christ is coming back very soon and every knee will bow, every tongue will confess that Jesus is Lord! The Bible tells us to dress modestly and for the Lord. If you don’t dress up for your creator, you’re dressing up for the world and who is the ruler of this world? satan.
@@evelina.gukasyan there is nothing wrong with homosexuality, people have preferences on what they want to wear, it isn’t a big deal. But the bible does say to be respectful and kind to all, and what you are doing is shaming people for what they want to do its their right. Now grow up.
Time changes. People don’t.
I'm a WW1 British officer reenactor and although I'm on the 'male' side I absolutely love those videos showing different period outfits. They're so extremely well made and staged! It's right in my interest!
A French Guardsman français ou british ? 😉
@@flocitron64 FROG
Interesting
Badger Are you a Hetalia fan? 😂 I’d recognize the FROG comment anywhere
I've always been drawn to the clothing and hairstyles of these times. Everybody just looked so much nicer and put together. I mean, I definitely love my oversized crew neck pullover jumpers and soft joggers, but there's just something about the way they used to dress that makes me wish we still dressed like that! It reminds me so much of my great grandmother Margaret and how she would pin her hair into little curls before bed, and then long before any of us were awake she would be dressed, eating a bowl of cheerios with her hair all curled up and drinking a small cup of coffee in the silence with a newspaper and the windows open. Even as the years progressed it was like she still lived in the past.
Not only are these movies interesting and nice, also the warm and gentle voice adds to the pleasure of watching.
My God! Sorry for my mistake, I'll make penance kneeling in the winter blizzards my head covered with ashes..........
@Mia This is your problem.
bring back this style!!! it's so elegant and modest
I would have to agree with you that, I wore an 1880's style School mistress skirt with a lace overskirt and a Gibson girl blouse for my wedding dress.
Susanna Sharrock That would look so pretty 😱😍 I wish people wouldn’t judge others for choosing to wear this style of clothing if I knew anything about fashion I would start a clothing brand with this style.
Tastefully Offensive yees.
You can still wear a similar style to this if you want!
@@olivia._.l7659 What you mean?
0:50 It might have been on QI, but I remember hearing that one English monarch (Elizabeth I, maybe?) demanded that men of the court double up their hose because she disliked the sight of their leg hairs sticking through. :D Not sure if it's true, but I find it rather amusing, nevertheless.
@@Yesica1993 it's easy to forget shaving, I haven't done it in 2 years lmao
yeah once you quit its easy to forget it lol such a time-suck
Ostsol I know the episode you mean, it was Queen Victoria though. ☺
@@KathrynMoncoeurFilms I can vouch for forgetting being easy. I don't think I've ever gone more than a month though before the actual hair begins to bother me. Fortunately the same skin issues that caused me to shave less in the first place have also caused the growth to slow significantly.
homie93 last month I did it for the first time in a while. It was a nice reminder of why I *don’t* do it lol
isn’t this just beautiful? i think that the way people used to dress was just lovely. i love these videos so much, they are amazing.
Ok but I'd actually wear this
Same
It seems a lot of people in the comments would, I certainly would!
Tbh..Same
Shahad SHD Thank you!! I will!
Same
Love the way women dressed during that time period, it was so modest and fashionable 💜
All of your "dressing" videos are so fascinating. I'm so excited when a new one comes out! There are several sweaters that I would buy and wear. Do you have any links or resource information for people you know who knit these sweaters, if they sell them, or where I could find them? I would love to support them. They are beautiful. Thanks!
I shall ask around!
Ditto! I love sweaters. Maybe I can start wearing WWI era clothing because it looks hella comfortable and still tidy.
redhairring ikr? I so would too
Me too! I love the white, lacy blouse she puts on (and the stuff underneath). Love, love, LOVE the sweater! Would love to buy some of these clothes but am in the U.S. 😢
I wish this type of clothing would make a come-back - as someone else mentioned it looks comfy too!
‘Fashion’ today is just so awful - everyone looks so slovenly - no pride or sense of style. And everything is cheaply made and ‘throw away’. I find it difficult to look nice for a reasonable price.
Please do wear what you love and makes you feel happy. Why not? I frequently get into my 1890s clothes, and not just for the days I volunteer at a historic home. And when I go to work I often wear a waistcoat I knitted from a 1940s pattern (or perhaps 30s?), along with a pair of muffatees I designed. People love it - I know because lots of them tell me, and some even want their pictures taken with me! (It's the clothes they like for sure - I am not the least bit photogenic...)
I waited until my 40s before I started doing this. Silly me, now I wish I'd started sooner. (By the way, if anyone thinks it frivolous or "not sensible", or doesn't like the look of it, so what? Give them a cheery and wish them a lovely day - and mean it. I'm truly happy for them to wear and look at the things that make them happy and if they don't feel the same for me it's of no consequence to me. So far, I haven't met a single of those people, though.) :-)
I'm 24 year old , I wear like this style in my everyday life.
My mother (god bless her ) sews my clothes it's very modest and respectful.
Except I put on a long scarf to cover my hair / hijab and the skirt is bit longer .
I like to toy around with making different historical styles fit with the modesty I want as a muslima, though I haven't been able to do much actual experimentation yet - just nosing about and theorizing.
Well now I know when women actually began shaving.
SlovesL LOVE those kinds of random fun facts
Does anyone have a time machine?
It was partly due to companies selling safety razors realising that they could get the half of the population without facial hair to instead feel compelled to shave random body hair. It’s not like married men thought women had no hair beneath their long skirts/thick stockings so it wasn’t inevitable that culture would expect women to shave.
in east women have been waxing for centuries. they were waxed, braided and oiled with essential oils. no corsets and once a week baths. no wonder victorians are famous for stinging. imagine being strapped in a corset 18 hours a day summer or winter. that must’ve been smelly
wood1155 oh piss off.
I can’t wait to show my mother this
This is how my grandmother would have dressed
I never got to meet her so this gave me a glimpse, thank you so much
I would love for this to be my wardrobe
I will be searching for that book as I am a knitter ❤️
oh my, that sheer white blouse is just heavenly!
So.. is nobody gonna talk about how she’s so calm and there’s litterally a war going on
Kind of hard to be in a panic when it is either not close to you or it has been going on so long you are just used to it. Kind of like how people aren't panicking over toilet paper anymore or excessively worried that they are going to die if they catch the virus.
She didn't have to go so.........
@@christopherrogers303 , agreed
@@christopherrogers303
Lol yep it's a little different when you're suddenly woken by an ear-splitting siren and "INCOMING! INCOMING! INCOMING!" being blasted through a tannoy/speakers in the corner of your bivvy. Pants already on, so that's ok... Check. Wrestle on cargos and tee-shirt... Check. Feet in Boots (pre laced to save time) ... Check. Grab helmet, vest, webbing, personal weapon... Check. Sprint for hard over, and "relax"... Settle down and listen to the C-RAM start spraying HE rounds at the incoming rockets, interspersed with lots of cussing, swearing and piss-taking over who is dressed in what... Good times 🤣
She didnt had to go so i think her only stresses that have to do with WWI would be economic and losing any male family member/friend
My Godmother was a nurse, in England, during WWI. I can almost picture her wearing such clothes. Thank you for sharing this video! ~Janet in Canada
I love how people dressed in the old days!
Looks so classy and elegant!
true that
I'm really fascinated by this kind of videos. Nice work ☺
One morning in 1916 my Gran came downstairs without her corset on, and there apparently was quite the row. But she was adamant and that was that.
My daughter has just started knitting and I'll be asking for a slouchy beret for sure! I love these vids being a history buff, living history just feeds the soul.
Laura Mayhew my same thought
Absolutely I love history it’s so interesting! I also love how tough and traditional these people were, they were able to keep smiling even during WWll which I find very respectable.
I wish we still lived in the past where the fashion was like 🤯
I'd to see a getting ready for the 1940s, either during or just after the war! I feel there's a lot of potential to explore the changing wartime attitudes!
We have WW2 Women's Land Army coming up in three weeks time!
CrowsEyeProductions YEEEEES!!!!
This was my grandmother's time, she was a young woman dating in 1912, married in 1916. Her wedding outfit looked very similar to this lady's. Any of you ladies who've commented about wishing you could wear these clothes, well buy the patterns and make them! Sewing is not hard. It's fun making your own clothes and create your own style. I hope you go for it!
this is probably my favorite style of clothing so far. it's so practical and no heatstroke from ten different layers. 🙌🙌🙌
This is actually really pretty i wish these kind of fashion will come back
I never thought i would become interested in how women used to dress. But that's it. And thanks for the video again
Yuppo
I keep coming back to this video because I find so much inspiration in it. I love white shifts, nice blouses, wool skirts, oxford shoes, and knit sweaters so this is really the dream! Thank you for making it.
I love that you chose to make one for younger women!
Beanie.Girl I’ve always wanted to see how kids dress. They could have the elite super wealthy and also more average. There would be fewer videos, but it’d be a nice addition. Like how boys were in dresses in many eras and didn’t have hair cut until a certain age. Or what was deemed appropriate for girls, when hem lines started to matter for them. Who would do up the buttons? How was their hair worn? When did they have it up, or was it only when they married? I’d love to know!
She looks so pure in white...
And I love the beautiful lace. LOVE IT
How come she gets working pockets but not me
Coz purses hadn't been invented yet?
@@Rachel-fi4sc There were plenty of historical purses, reticles, satchels, and of course, exterior pockets that were tied undergarments. Several articles suggest it's more about fashion, and how the garment fits on a woman, putting anything in a useful pocket would mar the smooth lines. I wear a lot of voluminous skirts, and they have ample pockets. However, my a line dress skirts have none.
You can also alter an A-line skirt to have pockets.
Right?! Hard to think we’ve advanced so much but ditched the useful pockets for some reason.
Pockets used to come separately from dresses back when the skirts were really big. They were never quite incorporated into dresses and skirts when they became shorter and slimmer.
I bought the pattern for the sweater in this video! I haven’t knitted it yet, but I can’t wait to knit it!
The narrator is just amazing.
The narrator's voice is the most soothing thing I've ever heard in my life.
I found this video very interesting, and wonderfully made too - the narrating voice is soothing and warm, and accompanies the video very well! For one, I didn't know corsets were pretty much rejected in this time period, though it definitely makes sense in context. I was wondering, though, how young ladies with bigger chests would support their breasts, as all the lovely ladies in this video have smaller chests and therefore not much to be supported by those light chemises.
It was the very young women who rejected corsets, those already wearing them were slower to give them up. Many never did, especially prior to the development of a bra of any efficiency!
Pauline Loven I'm not an expert in the wearing of corsets or anything like that, but I do know that girls start wearing corsets at very young ages. So maybe girls with bigger chests could've quite literally been suppressing their chests for their entire lives. I have also heard that corsets are more flexible than people think, so the corset possibly could also have just molded to fit the wearer and still provided the support needed that way, even though larger chests were more frowned upon in this time period.
That's just my speculation, I don't know if it's true.
Pauline Loven Not to mention that World War I pretty much drove corsets out of mainstream fashion because the steel that was normally used to make the boning in corsets was needed to make military equipment.
I was wondering about this too. My guess is that they just stuck to corsets.
MizzKittyBichon Yes, we mentioned the effect the requisitioning of steel had on the availability of corsetry in our VAD Nurse film.
So funny, I think of a full skirt as getting in my way & almost being restrictive unless I'm careful & coordinated lol. But in this time they were about freedom of movement & not having to think so hard about your clothes restricting you!
I love these clothes very much. I'd gladly dress this way now. Except for the garter cutting off my circulation, it's wonderful.
Magificently done video in every way. I'll watch this many times :)
This style of dress is so attractive.
I love the women’s fashion in the past, it gave them the image of dignified, modest smart women ❤️
I have a photo of my grandfather with his sisters and this video really helped confirm what era it was taken. Thank you so much !!
I love this style. It’s so simple yet elegant.
Could you do some series on men's clothes of this period? Also, I think one covering men's and women's clothing of the 1920's and 1930's would be interesting as well. The more detailed the better, thank you.
We are doing a WW1 soldier soon but we'll try and schedule a civilian man at some point.
What I love about this series is it gives you history of the clothing but also tells a story.
So beautiful! Simple and yet stunning.
I keep coming back to this video, over and over again.
Everything about it is exquisitely beautiful, calm and serene.
It's almost ironic, seeing that it's set in such a harrowing time.
It also makes me wanna ditch all my modern clothes for ones like these...🙂
I’m so glad this kind of videos exist, thank you so much for creating them and share it with all of us!❤️
I'm so proud of you guys! How awesome to now have your book out! I absolutely adore this style of dress, too. So comfortable and relaxed.
These videos are gorgeous. I love the contextual info about the the time period too
Loved seeing a whole range of outfits!
Poised, lovely, vintage and fits like a glove!! I love this style 30s - 80s mainly 70s! But overall a great tutorial, history too!!! :) I love history vids
I am loving these getting dressed series! Wonderful history lessons, and as an ASMR fan, I adore listening to the narrator. I've now got this playlist down for a sleep aid. I can't wait to see more of them in the near future! Subscribed!
Thank you for the explanation! The video is educating without being boring, and the visuals are beautiful! ❤️
Clothing-wise, I was born in the wrong decade.
Nothin' stopping you from wearing what you wish.

Carrot 2 , the second world war was a lot more chaotic. So I’d have no objections ;) I wanna die tho.
gluten free bleach right, I hate this “I was born in the born generation” shit lmfaoooo
Looks to be soft and comfortable .. feminine too.
Narrator has a beautiful soothing voice.
I need to improve my knitting skills so that I can get this book and make beautiful knitwear!
What a wonderful series. Really in depth, accessible, if I were only in college again I'd see if any of my like minded friends would want to do this era. The narration is so soothing, reflective. Just what is needed now during this pandemic.
This is so calming, and so amazingly made
"Knitting became very fashonable" give me a time machine I've found my true era!!!
Knitting history- how to combine two loves into one.
These fashions are so classy and cute, I can't even. Love them.
So beautiful, love your job! Please, keep it up!
Would love to buy these books if I could knit. My mother was a brilliant knitter and we all grew up in wool knits - so warm and cosy in winter.
I would wear everything I saw. Beautiful style, beautiful clothes!
Please always have this narrator as your narrator! You have a lovely, warm, clear and soothing voice, ma’am. Thank you!
Why is this so satisfying to watch, I'm in love
"The first generation to refuse to wear corsets-" "started shaving their legs-" one step forwards, two steps back...
So true...
Oh I know 😞 that’s about how it goes, just like how most girls pants don’t have pockets anymore
Lmao its not that big of a deal
Corsets arent actually as bad as media has made them out to be
Is shaving your legs bad?
Thank you for doing these videos! Love them.
I love these types of videos, seeing a clear, camera window into history. So interesting for a lil nerd like me xxx
i dunno why but i almost cry when i saw THEM 😭💕

I'm always excited to see a new video on my favorite channel!!
I wish I could wear this without getting people annoying me, like this is FASHIONABLE! ( imma pray these make a comeback )
Imagine....100 years later people doing the same with the 2018 fashion
I don’t know what i enjoyed more , the beautiful modest styles or the soothing narration........so comforting.
All the fabulous hand knits.
Wow!! I came upon this video because I'm actually looking for early 1900's mens working cloths. This video popped up and I decided to watch it. Glad I did. Beautiful clothing. Wish women dressed like this today, of course if they wished.
Omg! Love this! Was waiting for it. Love the narration

Have you contacted the WWI UA-cam channel The Great War? They'd probably be interested in your videos, especially the VAD nurse one.
(Also, is that cardigan included in the book? I love it!!)
We haven't contacted them yet, perhaps we will when we get a free moment!
The cardigan is indeed in the book!
My grandmothers’ era. I have some of their brooches. One is a small sterling vase that holds a delicate flower such as a violet, one is a silver spoon, one a Cameo. Love to dress feminine & to knit 🧶 Need to get started on a new knitwear project!

I love this era's styles. I'd wear the entire ensemble the young woman wears, including those cute shoes. It's getting to be cardigan weather (October 2023), and I love my cardigans as outerwear, though I have to remove the cardigan indoors, as I "run warm" in my middle-age years.
This is wonderful. Thank you for sharing.
