I love watching these videos and they’ve inspired me to try to make my own mead. Only problem is… I don’t drink. Guess I’ll just enjoy the videos then.
Same, except if I drink, it’s illegal

another option is kombucha if youre not interested in the alcohol!
Tried this recipe from your recipe list. Coming up on the 36 hour mark since I added yeast but fermentation hasn't quite taken off yet. Here's hoping
Maybe a little cold? Yeast will take more time if the temps aren't in its range
@@rebel4466 yup
How’s it going?
@jamiesuns Pretty well! We're at 2 1/2 weeks and fermentation has started and is going strong getting ready to take out the apples and replace them with fresh ones!

But do you have two pounds of honey?

@@jxy5566 Well he did say “You probably have most.”
Watching you make this flavor is what made me pick up the hobby. Another month and mine should be done too, tho I will say after tasting I might have went overboard with the cloves but hopefully stabilizing and sweetening should fix it.
I had some left over stuff from the holidays, mainly cranberry, added a whole bag of cranberry and then I have had some cinnamon sticks that were going to out of date soon so I tossed them in there.... Didn't realize that it was 5 sticks to my 1 gal..... So I have some red cinnamon mead lol.
Is it kind of like a candy apple flavor?
Question.
Soooo can I request Dr. Pepper wine next?
I don't even drink lol, but watching this stuff is fun
Those stabilizers are so handy & the fermato
Love watching these, it also reminds me of Thor from God of War Ragnarok
I absolutely need to do this! 🤤🤤🤤
I don't know if you're aware of this or not but there are apples that are red flesh on the inside and some of them taste like starburst custard it's f****** amazing and life-changing I can only imagine what the wine would be like from said apples.
I made this exact recipe years ago but i put a couple allspice in there with the cinnamon stick and cloves
I watch this but I don’t ever think im make a wine I don’t drink alcohol but I enjoy seeing the fermentation process it’s all very calculated and natural most i made was a ginger beer but that has almost no alcohol more like a fizzy pop drink not even a cider
Apples and honey is a traditional Hanukkah treat.
I like adding a little nutmeg as well buddy!!!!!
To think ancient peeps did this without knowing what yeast and the other modern day stuff is and not having it... is amazing
Hey new brewer here. Just wondering how long you stabalize for?
Give it 24 hours if you're using potassium metabisulfite and sodium metabisulfite (aka campden tablets).
All other stabilizing methods will vary.
3 days. Shake it twice a day.
Do you put a filtering screen on the end of your transfer hose? I feel like that may be a good idea for beginners who are new to siphoning and accidentally pick up some sediment.

Is it possible to make flavoured wine with jam, water and yeast?
It should be. Hopefully, more experienced voices will chime in.
@@Coglio fruit and bread in the toilet, actually. (Sauce: my cousin had spent some time.)
It should do, sugar+yeast=alcohol it would be interesting if he did a video on it.
Absolutely possible. You'd have to check the jam though. Some ingredients in professional production might make fermentation a whole lot harder. If you have home made jams, go crazy. You just need the right amount of sugar for your desired alcohol concentration. How that is supplied is more or less irrelevant. In Finland they make cheap booze by fermenting sugar water.
Did you sanitize the apples too?
I need to try it !
Have you ever tried to use caramel?
When you transfer to your next gallon, do you also transfer the yeast?
Any reason for the carboy for fermentation instead of the wide top that you seem to usually use?
I made a spiced apple wine this year. I often put a tiny amount of pepper in an apple pie, so I did the same in the wine. 3 peppercorns in a gallon. Now it's apple pepper wine. Not great, but okay.
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I never heard this word before Skyrim.
Wow that looks great, What stabilizer do you use?
Camden tablets. But stabilizing isn't all that necessary. You can even low temp pasteurize your brews, so you don't have to add anything
I don't drink alcohol at all, but i think I'd like the taste of a few of these meads.
Got some with apples and oranges (don't compare them) that's nearly ready. And I have mace to spice it with!
Is it worth it though? I really want to get into it, but I feel like it’s just more effective to just buy a bottle off the shelf.
Would it work with water instead of apple juice
Why dont you try addin cocoa shells for flavour? Could be nicee
Complimenti…
You racked it and ran the secondary with that much head space? Do you ever encounter mold?
I personally enjoy a dryer mead myself.
How do you get rid of the yeasty flavor? Every time I make hard cider or apple wine the yeasty flavor takes months to dissipate. It only happens when I ferment apples
Love the vid, but hate the uneven bottles 😂
Have you made honey strawberry mead?
Simple question i work in a winery and fermentation takes 5 to 7 days why does yours take 40
Excellent question. I brew stuff too and it takes a month or two. How does wine go so fast?
It’s very recipe dependent. I’ve had some batches finish in a week though.
It fermented for 40 days you stabilized and sweetened it and then you aged it for 4 months it didn't ferment for 6 months
A winery does everything perfectly. Usually the grapes and the resulting mash is analyzed and exact amounts of ingredients are added. Everything is temp controlled and all of that good stuff. Home brewers can't provide that kind of perfection. Less perfection will result in more time
@@medmark77our homemade wine is never that fast. Home usually takes more time, we aren't as exact with our measurements as they would be at a winery and we don't temperature control the wine. In a winery they will be very exact and will keep the wine at the exact ideal temperature to speed up fermentation, this is good for a larger scale and a business since you will get perfectly predictable results every time but for someone just making some at home it's overkill
How high the alcohol contenct may be using fermentation like this?
And what the taste if the alcohol content is max out?
Bitter? Sweet? Sour? Or weird un explained taste?
Do you add thr cinnamon in the secondary or initially..bit confused
How far can you push the fremantation/ alcohol content? Re introducing more honey and yeast ...any benefits?
how do you prevent islands from forming? (colonies)
What do you think about using spring water from a spring water tap. Like right out of the ground spring water

What are the stabilizers you use
Where would you find the supplies that you are using here?
Can you show ppl how to make Boil-O? It’s a super delicious coal country Pa alcohol for the winter. Esp delicious if warmed up. Gets you MESSED up too 😅
Why add the spices later? Why not from the beginning with the apples?
Fermented spices taste weird. Add them at the end for predictable flavors.
@@medmark77 got it thanks
How would using apple cider instead of apple juice affect the final product, i.e. alcohol content and flavor?
I guess you're from the US and cider is just more natural apple juice for you? It doesn't change anything except the looks. Cider is extremely hard to filter to crystal clear without the use of professional grade equipment. Otherwise it has better properties than the cleared stuff, as it comes with lots of extra ingredients for the yeast to feed on.
Is it ok to use baking yeast in your opinion
Bread yeast has a lower alcohol tolerance (5-8%) than wine yeast. So it might stop fermenting before finishing the sugar, leaving you whit a too sweet brew. But if you adjust the sugar amount accordingly, you can use it.
question is Rose wine a real thing if it is can you try making it ??????
Do bees like mead ?
Heisenberg of mead making
You should do Welch’s Fruit snack gummy wine
How many calories are in all of that honey and other contents
Apples with apple cider and honey, fermented is called cyser.
Anyone know how good that corker is? I started with a similar device for hard cider and broke a bottle right out of the gate. If try mead I might just get a bench corker instead of the 2 handed device
Does the stabilizer add harmful chemicals?
what's this bottle called and where can I get it?
Does it hurt the mead to transfer from jug to jug to much? Seeing the yeast at the bottom, I wanted to move it to a clean jug about every 30 days. Wasn't sure if this would hurt the product.
You just shouldn't get too much oxygen into the brew. It can lead to a more or less delicious vinegar instead of a mead. But if you siphon it without too much of a drop height, you're usually fine. The dead yeast doesn't do much though. It just isn't suspended anymore, but can provide nutrient to the living yeast. That's why most people only do first and secondary fermentation and bottle it afterwards. So a max of 3 containers.
6 months of fermentation???
I have a question when it comes to fermenting. Do you add all yeast and nutrients at the beginning, or do you add over the course of fermentation? I've been told both answers
Depends if your wine needs to be step fed nutrients. Higher abv usually needs to be added gradually throughout a schedule. Like if you have a fresh pressed juice you could throw some k meta and wait 24 hours to pitch the yeast
What stabilisers are you using?
Can you make some skooma from the Skyrim Cookbook
Is it possible to make a sweet mead ? I'm new to this craft , and I want to learn how to make mead , especially for my Grandma ❤
Of course. Just don't ferment it dry, or add something sweet afterward. Just make sure you stabilize or it'll ferment more and generate pressure.
If you carefully track your mead during primary you can kill the yeast to keep some residual sugar to taste
Is there any way to make it stronger Just curious seems like a lot of the stuff you make is like very low abv
you would have to get a hight tolerance mead and a lot of sugar but most of the stuff he makes is 13 percent
@@ruonaefemen803 it would be fun to make like 100 percent stuff like really strong stuff 😂 but I feel that would almost be illegal 😂
@@JayDubTcg nah it aint illegal if you aint selling it, but the max for mead is 18 abv
Ahh yes I knew I was saving this two pounds of honey for something 😅
Why is no one talking about how's a bottle that's not fully filled?
40 days?
Cool
Is this mead kingcobra approved?
Come October you can catch a few rich girls 😂
So I’m trying to understand the Fernando do I mix it with the yeast before adding or add it halfway through the fermentation process?
Fermaid-O. Just a nutrient. Usually you mix it in before the yeast so you can get it dissolved nicely while dissolving the honey. But if you forgot, you can add it later as well. You don't even have to use it. Some people use boiled bakers yeast in water or leave it out completely. It just makes starting the fermentation a lot easier and provides a fail-safe. If your brew is stalling, you can also add it later on to see if the yeast is just missing a bit of food. Just don't overthink it. The process worked for thousands of years, it won't stop because you didn't pick the right time for the nutrient.
Can I use sugar instead of honey?
In theory yes but your probably not strictly making mead at that point, since at its core mead is honey wine
Yea, but then it's a cider, not mead
I ordered some yeast and download the shop app. How do I see when it will be delivered
You should 100% try this: Make a regular, control, unflavored batch of mead, but use agave nectar instead of honey.
Why did fermentation take so long? 40 days seems way to long, my last batch finished fermentation at 11 days at around 14.7%
When the apocalypse hits, this guy is going to be stacked with booze lol😅
What’s the best type of apple?
The one you like most. In general a mix of tart and sweet will produce the most complex flavor. You can use different kinds of apples though. Just mix and match the apples you enjoy eating
Is there a way to make this without the yeast nutrient
