    Hey man just to let you know, im pretty sure YT gave me your video because my phone saw me comment on twitter that this thing looked neat. Idk anything about making music or anything like that but it was neat to watch your review and to learn what a musician looks for in that type of stuff. Great review, even for an outsider.

      Thank you for checking it out. I wanted to give an honest review for people who don’t have a lot of(or any) experience with old school sampling, like myself.

    Appreciate the honest video! Mine arrived Wednesday night, and damn, the initial learning curve is steep if you haven't used anything like this before. At first I found the naming conventions on it hilarious, but when trying to work with it, like you, it became annoying. I still keep the TE website open when I'm messing around with it, there's so much hidden in features. That all said, I'm still pretty stoked on it.

    What other edition do you think they might make in the future? People were expecting other popular pocket operators in this new form factor but we basically got a reskin of K.O.2. If they’re doing another sampler again then it’s any theme really. I happen to like the medieval theme so picked one up, I dig it. Definitely one of the coolest samplers I’ve seen, aesthetically, and a great idea for a product overall by TE.

      I wonder. This one does have some differences, like the arpeggiator, and the included sounds. I’m just hoping I can get used to the workflow. Because the look is cool, and the sounds are fun. Been playing with it since uploading this.

      @@dreadwardbernays I do get your point about them needlessly renaming normal terms to sound ye olde English, just reading the manual. I wonder if you use this thing long enough you begin to use their terms like a raging lunatic! 🤣

    I think the medieval them is funny. I think TE got inspired to do this theme because of all the outdoor in nature lofi beat maker videos 😂😂😂 there is always someone out in the forest near a brook tapping away on pads 😂 so I think its hilarious.

    subscribed for the realness on the limits thing. i like giving myself limits so i can stay focused on creating, such as only allowing myself to pick from five snare samples or synth patches so i dont spend hours clicking thru sounds and not making anything. what i dont like is companies not including basic features, such as the op-1 not having an undo button, and then fanboys and gear youtubers distract from those majors flaws by saying “its fine, limits inspire creativity”. i can decide my own limits, i dont wanna be told a box i paid hundreds of dollars for has “limits” someone else decided will help my creativity

    • @dreadwardbernays
      @dreadwardbernays  4 місяці тому

      Agreed! Giving yourself guidelines is great. But excusing companies for excluding basic features, by alluding to these exclusions somehow making us more creative is just cope! Thanks for the sub 👊🏾

  • @Georg89
    @Georg89 4 місяці тому +1

    Thanks for the demo and your thoughts. Do you think it will be doable to get into the device and the workflow after spending enough time, if one has no knowledge about other samplers so far? Or which sampler would you recommend instead?

    • @dreadwardbernays
      @dreadwardbernays  4 місяці тому

      I think you can definitely learn the device. It’ll take time. If this is your first sampler, you might want to look into something easier. I’ve seen used MPC One units as low as $425. That device does nearly everything, and is easier to get started on, with the touch screen, and visual component to everything.
      If something battery powered, cheap, and very portable is your aim, one of these is a great choice. Just prepare for the learning curve. But, to be honest, the KO ii, is the same unit with better displayed icons, and simple names on the buttons. So, I’d pick the KO over this. The Medieval themed names have been the most constantly frustrating aspect.
      Some other options that are similar in price and possibly a bit easier to learn:
      Sonicware SmplTrk/Liven samplers, Elektron Model:Samples(seen used for under $200 before).

    I guess it’s in the name but TE insists on flavoring some of their products with a teenage/childish motif. I really like some of their Pocket Operators but their screens are wasted with silly graphics which takes away space from essential operating information.

    • @dreadwardbernays
      @dreadwardbernays  4 місяці тому

      Never had a PO. But this device did the same thing. Wasted space on the character, and took away some the visual feedback you get on the KO 2.

      @@dreadwardbernays Yeah, I'm still wanting to get the K.O.II.
      Maybe the Medieval theme is brilliantly absurd--an unholy fusion of the new, the vintage, and the near ancient--and perhaps even a perfect reflection of the strange, contradictory times we live in.
      Or maybe Switzerland just got Vikings on Netflix.

      I’ve got to say… this sampler is genius. I think they chose to go offbeat, but as a long-time RPG’er (yes, Dungeons & Dragons), this machine is beautiful and a great excuse to learn some Teenage Engineering. Also, the instruments are hard to come by (presumably). Great to have them packaged together in a fun and useful form factor. I hope the tool has depth, but it will always be useful. Sample quality seems strong.
