I hook up my echo dot to my BOSE speaker and now I pick up wifi and better sound when i ask my dot question or tell it off.. All MY devices ( echo dot and bose speaker are in my office. So i walk around house talking to my echo dot.....hope I answer your question....peace.....PS I DID GET SMART PLUG ALSO.

I have a cape it's approximately 900 ft.² on the first floor which is all that I use. Living room kitchen two bedrooms one of which I don't use bathroom are within a 15 1617 foot proximity of one another. I would probably bring it outside with a speaker I spend a lot of time out there in the summer all day mornings at night they have to drag me in LOL this is Buffalo! We have to take the weather when we can get it. OK that being said if I started with an Echo, which could be centrally located and everything could be heard from every room, plus I can bring it outside because I have the clothes free battery" that my friend gave me, or I could plug it in the garage. What I'd be better doing that at 179 rather than paying 49 for the DOt, then another 200 for a good speaker, I'm on perhaps another 49 for another.? I'll get rid of the battery for the dot maybe that useless. And do you users in the car at all? Pardon me if I'm asking redundant questions.

The only thing is if your other echo hear your voice commands they will commit. You can have multiple gmail etc accounts on each echo and each one can be set or switched to different accounts so for example. My Office can be My account and I can get get schedules etc for my account. My partner can have a device in say the kitchen switched to her account and she can get her schedules on the device in the kitchen. This can happen at the same time t so the account l is local to the specific device while switched to that account.. And you can switch either echo to which account you like when you want. Both accounts are available on both devices but they can be switched separately and uniquely.
Hi Caroline, just watched your Part 1 video. Great tips! We currently have 3 Echo Dots - 1 in each of our kid's rooms (downstairs) and then one upstairs in our kitchen. The problem we are having is my boys will fall asleep listening to music on theirs, but then when our daughter goes to bed and turns on her meditation through her dot the music turns off in the boy's room. I've tried changing the wakeup names, but it still happens. Advice?? Also, is it possible to send an announcement from my upstairs dot to just ONE of the dots downstairs instead of it going to both??
I bought 4 and gave two of them away as Christmas Gifts. Then I bought a 5th one as another gift for a family member. Oddly I have not seen this family member so I decied to keep it for myself. So last night I installed it in another room. I like to be able to speak to her and ask her to do things no matter where I am. I may purchase others down the road. I am waiting for Amazon to add more features. I do control my Lights and Security Cameras using IFTTT with Alexa. I love it.

My daughter and I both have an echo dot and smart lights. The problem is every time I ask Alexa to turn my light on hers goes on also? They’re named differently and I even changed my wake word and it still happens?
when you play a station or something on the alexa in say the bedroom and you play music on another device in the kitchen, when you say to the kitchen device to Stop, it also stops the Bedroom device. How can that feature be turned off? It's very annoying.

Hi Caroline I wish I'd seen this video 2 months ago. I've just brought a Bose soundtouch 10 ,20 and 300 with sub at a cost of around £2000 that's about $2600. I have 4 dots and one echo. My son plays music in his room from Spotify and then my wife or i play music in the living room or kitchen it then stops the music in my sons room. I now have Spotify premium so we all have an account so we can all listen to our own account. Do you know of a way I can ask Alexa to play in a particular room at the moment I use the Bose app to decide which room to play in. All the best from the uk.

I just got a second Echo dot and you answered the question that I needed to know. That was about the timers and alarms. I was hoping that setting a timer would be on all devices not just local to that device. Explains a lot. I hope they add the function to have timers and alarms everywhere. I have both devices in the same room at the moment and I wondered why they seemed to randomly answered me.
Of course, the main reason I bought a second Dot was so I could set a timer in the kitchen and have it go off in the family room. This is such an obvious use there should be some way to do this.
We have like 4 alexa on my wifes account. I have one at my brothers home, 1 at work, and 2 in different ends of the house. I tell One Alexa at one end of the house to dial my wifes cell phone and she dials my phone showing my wife calling me lol. Im almost 60 yrs old but still love the tech stuff. Your video on managing multiple Alexa Devices was excellent, clarifying key points for new users like myself (planning two more devices). While support was helpful, your video filled knowledge gaps regarding wake words. Your clear explanations make complex topics user-friendly. Subscribed for future content! Your work is commendable, perhaps Amazon could collaborate with creators like you to bridge user knowledge gaps. Having said that I believe amazon should also improve the accessibility for users of assistive technology like Voice Over on IOS Devices, currently it is very inconsistent. There is no ability to have a custom wake word for a specific device, you can name the device but I am not sure how it makes a difference functionaly. Here in India, we just have 2 voices for Alexa, Indian Male and Female that is such a limitation when IOS offers so much variety in the voices for their smart assistant i.e. Siri. Do you have to have a echo plus to link multiple echoes? So like an echo dot with a second generation echo, or does it need to be a echo dot with a echo plus?
What about two separate houses? Can you connect to a vacation home and say something like “ Alexa, turn on the bedroom lights in the Florida house “ ??
Bedroom Alexa, tell the kitchen Alexa to scream at the intruder coming down the hall "Hands up, we've got you surrounded!" (Then call 911 and get on the waiting queue...). Or... Alexa, Play "20 snarling angry barking pitbulls" playlist! You know, the one with the AK charging handle "click-click" sound effects! (version only available in non-Democrat controlled states)
It doesn't help if your device is muted. Why cant you say "A girl" or "E girl". I hate hving to mute and unmute my devices because youtubers cant come up with a creative talk around for smart/dumb devices.
I need help getting multiple alexia's to play in different parts of the house without it say "amazon is streaming from another device would you like to stream if from hear?" I haven't seen any tutorial to fix this issue. Please help. In addition, I watched the video about renaming devices but it would work.
I wish there was a way of identifying a device you previously set up.. I have multiple homes and multiple devices in each. I occasionally want to move them around. I have trouble identifying them since I did not know to give them a specific name to know where they are located. I have the serial numbers in the app but the device itself does not have a visible serial number. I have six Echo, one echo dot and a Sonos large speaker unit. I am having trouble identifying the Echos from each other. I can see them on my devices but do not know one from the other since they were all "set up" under my primary address. Any suggestions?

I have 2 fire tv’s and I got the first one a couple weeks ago and it came with an Alexa echo dot and I had it paired with my TV and it controlled the TV perfectly and yesterday I got a second fire TV and it came with another echo dot and as soon as I paired that echo dot with the new TV the echo dot that I had paired with the other TV stopped controlling that TV and they are both now controlling the same TV and they are both paired with separate TVs how do I fix that

Using 2 different wakeup names for devices that have conflicts on the same floor is great advice. Amazon should be suggesting that to users instead of constantly asking us: "Did I respond on the device you were expecting ?" over and over and over. This seems like common sense to me. WRZ 2023-04-06

Confirmed, multi room music is awesome. In the latest firmware, just go to settings & add which devices you want to use and give the group a name. Then, simply say "alexa, play (song name) on (your group name) =)
I open my music in my 1st device and then I ask for my 2nd device to play a song then the first one is stop what should I do if I want both if them play in different music in the same time as you?

Hi, where you have the echos playing music at the same time, what music service/ source are you using? Normally such is only possible where you have the corresponding family plan, or where you own the tracks you’re playing I.e. you have bought the MP3s from Amazon, or CDs from Amazon marked auto rip. There’s another retired option of having uploaded tracks you own into the now retired amazon music storage service. Leaving this unexplained gives the impression that anyone can do this.

When you have different music playing on your different Echo devices and tell one "Stop", they all don't stop playing as you said they do. In your example the only reason your Echo and Dot stopped was because they both heard you. If one was in another room it would continue playing.
Dan , go into it setting on the Alexa app. And you can set it up now for all echo devices to play and stop as one. I discover this last week. It's pretty neat. I have 4 echo in my house and they all played and stopped when I said the command. Hopes this helps.

Hello! When you played music from your dot did you have it on an external speaker? It sounded much better than than other utubes. Can you suggest an external bluetooth speaker. Not high end. I bought one for $249JBL Charge 3 which I couldn't really afford but it sounded good. BUT it does not hook to bluetooth automatically. You have to push a button. The $35 Anker, Does, Automatically hook up. I am not high tech. I am 65. I don't have an Echo. BUT got a FREE battery for one! Brand new. A friend. So, your opinion, should I ditch the echo dot for now, get the echo and get a dot later, orrrrr keep the dot (nothing is opened yet) and an external speaker. I thought I could put it in my car. I don't have wi fi and have hot spot but don't know...does it use data???? I'm sorry. Can you help me? I thought if I am spending all that money for a dot and cases (which I cannot use the battery with (which I also bought! the dot battery) and i can't use it in the car without a battery and i need a speaker, i might as well get a regular echo, I can use that outside gardening,, carefully with a case, or with battery if I want to bring it somewhere. maybe i don't need one in my car. What you would do is go to the Alexa app and then press the plus button then select multi room setup and follow what it says from there.

It doesn't help if your device is muted. Why cant you say "A girl" or "E girl". I hate hving to mute and unmute my devices because youtubers cant come up with a creative talk around for smart/dumb devices.

I wish there was a way of identifying a device you previously set up.. I have multiple homes and multiple devices in each. I occasionally want to move them around. I have trouble identifying them since I did not know to give them a specific name to know where they are located. I have the serial numbers in the app but the device itself does not have a visible serial number. I have six Echo, one echo dot and a Sonos large speaker unit. I am having trouble identifying the Echos from each other. I can see them on my devices but do not know one from the other since they were all "set up" under my primary address. Any suggestions?

I have 2 fire tv’s and I got the first one a couple weeks ago and it came with an Alexa echo dot and I had it paired with my TV and it controlled the TV perfectly and yesterday I got a second fire TV and it came with another echo dot and as soon as I paired that echo dot with the new TV the echo dot that I had paired with the other TV stopped controlling that TV and they are both now controlling the same TV and they are both paired with separate TVs how do I fix that

Amazon should be suggesting that to users

Confirmed, multi room music is awesome. In the latest firmware, just go to settings & add which devices you want to use and give the group a name.
Then, simply say "alexa, play (song name) on (your group name) =)

Hi, where you have the echos playing music at the same time, what music service/ source are you using? Normally such is only possible where you have the corresponding family plan, or where you own the tracks you’re playing I.e. you have bought the MP3s from Amazon, or CDs from Amazon marked auto rip. There’s another retired option of having uploaded tracks you own into the now retired amazon music storage service. Leaving this unexplained gives the impression that anyone can do this.

can you sync them to play? I have a stereo downstairs and I have a dot hooked up to it with the large echo in my room. I want to be able to tell my room device to turn on the stereo downstairs and play music on it. I would want the music to play on my downstairs stereo AND on the device in my room. Would that work?
Create a group with those 2 devices as members
and then say: play the group name.

When you have different music playing on your different Echo devices and tell one "Stop", they all don't stop playing as you said they do. In your example the only reason your Echo and Dot stopped was because they both heard you. If one was in another room it would continue playing.
Dan , go into it setting on the Alexa app. And you can set it up now for all echo devices to play and stop as one. I discover this last week. It's pretty neat. I have 4 echo in my house and they all played and stopped when I said the command. Hopes this helps.

Yes you have to create a group with multiple Echo or dot's device.
You should a comment at the beginning to mute echo device in the room when you watch the video. your voice kept actiavting my echo dot.
Also is there a limit to how many different types Amazon alexa's you can have linked to the same system?
Hello! When you played music from your dot did you have it on an external speaker? It sounded much better than than other utubes. Can you suggest an external bluetooth speaker. Not high end. I bought one for $249JBL Charge 3 which I couldn't really afford but it sounded good. BUT it does not hook to bluetooth automatically. You have to push a button. The $35 Anker, Does, Automatically hook up. I am not high tech. I am 65. I don't have an Echo. BUT got a FREE battery for one! Brand new. A friend. So, your opinion, should I ditch the echo dot for now, get the echo and get a dot later, orrrrr keep the dot (nothing is opened yet) and an external speaker. I thought I could put it in my car. I don't have wi fi and have hot spot but don't know...does it use data???? I'm sorry. Can you help me? I thought if I am spending all that money for a dot and cases (which I cannot use the battery with (which I also bought! the dot battery) and i can't use it in the car without a battery and i need a speaker, i might as well get a regular echo, I can use that outside gardening,, carefully with a case, or with battery if I want to bring it somewhere. maybe i don't need one in my car.
