@@suvuru Even if it's optional it's still dumb that it's there at all, they should have scaled the fight on how many badges you have.
They’ve done that since gen 1 with the final gym in Viridian City and in many other gens. The only difference is this one has battles that your meant to do later on but are able to start when you get there. Maybe they should give some warning but if you follow the directions/story there’s no reason to go to the battle cafe at that time anyways.

Ben Smollett i wouldn’t say that at all considering this game has the wild area which is one of the most explorable and freeing places in all Pokémon games. However when your in a city relatively early game it will gently push you towards the story/goal so you can get it done. Also Pokémon games are rated E for everyone and there target audience is children so of course there is a fair bit of hand holding.

Battle Cafe is supposed to be a challenge for players who go through the game like "infants" so as to add challenge for more experienced players. RUN 4 BABY
Thing is, you're supposed to battle dens in the wild area and get the xp crystals, they make you over leveled for the entire rest of the game so it's just as bad
