    The Boost to Drive pressure looks pretty good for just a quick set up test drive.. glad you put in a gauge to monitor it. she sounds like she's a little too advanced on the injection timing..but that could help you at higher rpm when the you've reached the limit on timing piston travel. Sounds like she just wants to pull hard when it comes on boost! Interesting to see if you can max out the 11mm when you get the turbo control sorted. Baby steps atm, but your deffo going the right direction mate keep up the good work!

      Hey! Thanks! Yeah seems like we're headed in a good direction. Gotta keep it together till the turbo works 😅😅

    Good sounding engine. Short efficient combustion events thats why it « KLKLKLKLKLKLKL » going to make big power soon !

    I need to put my intercooler on my 95 Toyota 4runner with a VW 1.6 td before modding the fuel pump, but I like what you did there! My wastegate is also stuck, so I need to rebuild my turbo as well.

    HEY nice stuff!! Two tips, if you have a hydraulic head (the one without the metal under the buckets) and want MAXIMUM boost without popping the head, this would be the way. #1 There's a special headgasket from the AAZ, its full metal (not fiber, like the original ones). It can hold tons of pressure without popping #2 You can upgrade to headstuds from ARP (pretty expensive), a cheaper alternative is PD150 headbolts. You need to cut them yourself as they are slightly longer, or you can get those from darksidediesel readily made. The metal is +- 25% stronger than the original ones.

    • @OliverFetter
      @OliverFetter  Рік тому +2

      Hey thanks!! I appreciate it. Unfortunately it's a mechanical block/head so no cigar on the MLS. BUT it is already rocking some ARP 2000 studs 😎 my usual failure mode is snapping the turbo shaft it seems not the head gasket 😔

    Have you looked into the Go Fast Bits V2 VNT Manual Boost Controller instead of the DIY controller? I've seen them work on mTDI trucks down in Australia, and they seem to work well. It stays with your fully mechanical setup as well.
    Great video! Love the sound of the motor.

      Would the GFB controller work with a 1.9 VNT20? I thought about that swap on my 1.6TD

      @TDISwap 9 місяців тому

      @@Dubst3pT3ch I would think it would since it's a VNT setup. I personally haven't used the GFB controller, but have seen a few videos and it seems to work.

    Old video but hoping I can get a reply 🤞 Did you do anything in regard to case pressure or timing advance spring pressure mate? Watched your rotorhead swap video but was just wondering. When the pump is wound up or producing big cc like yours now is it drops case pressure down and the advance rate / overall timing is affected apparently
    I'm about to swap my 10mm ve6 pump to a 12mm and big cam so trying to gain as much information info as i can
    I suppose worse comes worse just advance the pump a heap to offset it haha 🙃

    • @OliverFetter
      @OliverFetter  7 місяців тому

      Honestly I don't have enough data yet to confirm anything. The "base model" of this pump was Giles modified - so spring & such already. I do like to run the inline electric pump too. From what I can tell I don't lose any fuel pressure, for me it's worse than timing if it happens (it did on an old pump)... Lose all power pretty much.

    • @OliverFetter
      @OliverFetter  7 місяців тому

      I don't think it's THAT much more fuel with the 11mm that the vane pump loses pressure 💁

    • @braydonsnell8791
      @braydonsnell8791 7 місяців тому +1

      @@OliverFetter appreciate the reply , I run a lift pump as well just for fuel pressure safety under high acceleration
      Your car hammered after the 11mm install and didn't seem to fall over at all like a timing issue was present so I'm just going to 12mm swap and send/hope. Got a few ides if its issue anyway
      Keep up the content mate it's good stuff 🤙

      @khester7397 Рік тому +2

      Sure, he should put a 454 Chevy in it.
      Or, maybe the whole point of the project is to soup up a mechanically injected VW diesel.
      Naw, that'd just be silly.

    • @chcm5876
      @chcm5876 Рік тому

      Problem with TDI is you need to do lots of stuff, ECU (or mTDI), new gearbox (the 020 cant handle the torque), and the gearbox needs a hydraulic shifter, longer driveshafts, etc etc. If you can get a donor-car it would be nice though.

    • @TallGarage
      @TallGarage Рік тому +1

      @@khester7397 I don't think that's what we're saying, he is doing a bang up job but at some point he will rewatch the limit, and when he does we wanna see what he can do with something bigger like the 1.9

    • @OliverFetter
      @OliverFetter  Рік тому +2

      The 1.9l is def a power upgrade but it's a fundamental switch in what you're working with - ecu, etc. More than anything it ain't cheap to retrofit a whole 'nother motor! I think there's a lot to do still with car in general (and i tend to hyper focus on the motor as it is!!)

  • @tomaspinto7079

    Is this a direct injection engine ?? If not, can it be converted ?? 🤔

    • @OliverFetter
      @OliverFetter  Рік тому +1

      Indirect injection! 🤔🤔🤔 I imagine it would be pretty hard to convert it. The later 1.9tdi's is where vw made the switch.

    I’m curious how your modifications have changed the fuel mileage you get? Do you have an idea on how that’s changed?

    • @OliverFetter
      @OliverFetter  Рік тому +1

      I have *loosely* tracked it. When it used to be naturally aspirated I got around 45-50 mpg. With a modded 9mm pump I was still getting 36-40 mpg (with a fuel tank leak!!). I haven't driven it with the 11mm pump head enough to have a current stat. It all depends on how ya drive it too. A flaming hot tune only affects how responsive the gas pedal is... How much you press it determines the rest! I'd guestimate it still does 35-40mpg without stuffing it at every opportunity
