It was 100% purposeful. That section of the video is for things that aren't technically mess ups or things that I can't tell if they're mess ups. This was not technically a mess up as he messed up on purpose (like Andrew stuttering in the last part)
I believe it must've been from before he joined the band and possibly back in the days of listed black as Rob appears to be playing yearbook (a song from Listed black). You can hear someone speak that doesn't sound like Zubin or Andrew so that might be the third guy from Listed black? So when he asks if he can come he's not asking to get on stage and perform with them, he most likely is asking if he can watch their performance.
