Supposedly, a hard drive exists out there in the world with all of these cut lines, just, tucked away somewhere in a Sonic Team office or something. The potential missing ingredient to what might be the best mod of Shadow The Hedgehog ever conceived.
That’s not really true, moreso they did test audio before getting any scripts to get a sense of the tone of the game (and btw, they didn’t know yet the rating of the game). The hard drive thing is true but I doubt Sonic Team are the owners of it, maybe someone who was at 4kids back then.

for who i am, that song got axed because mike szuter (lead vocalist/guitarist for magna fi) wrote the song on a whim before knowing what the game was about beyond the e3 trailer, and then when he went to sega of japan, jun senoue wanted to make a song with him instead of using that one. this is from a youtube comment by the man himself under a video of a demo version of who i am (look up the "non-album" version).

I legitimately thought it was in the game 'cause it was in a zip file that was labelled "Shadow The Hedgehog OST" I managed to find on the high seas. Didn't actually have the game until like, '06 or '07, was wondering where it was supposed to play, and I never wrapped it, so right now is when I learned it got cut.

Every since I discovered broken, all of me, and who I am, I really wished they were in the game, even to the point of me coming up with what they would go with. Broken has always felt like a last minute redemption song to me, like if you took the dark path for most of the game, but then stopped black doom at the end. Shadow did the right thing in the end, but never forgives himself for what he did before that. All of me feels like if Shadow stopped black doom in the end, but wasn't able to save everyone. He tried his best to save everyone, but failed, and it resulted in the world hating him, causing in him having those bitter feelings portrayed by the song. Who I am definitely feels like the original final boss theme, the lyrics are so clearly Shadow talking to black doom. with that one though, I actually can't decide whether I like Who I am or I am all of me better for the final boss music, they're both great also when you said that the original all hail shadow was a little too self aware, I was like "it can't be that bad... oh." lol
I honestly never really interpreted the final GUN Fortress track to be slick spy music. To me it always sounded like the opposite of Final Haunt, just this sad ballad about how Shadow is now content with his decision to wipe out humanity, but the regret still lingers in his head. As if the game is asking him "Is this really what you want to do? Is this what the Ultimate Lifeform was meant for?" When you pass one of the mother computers and Doom tells you "Its too late to turn back now", I always felt there was a double meaning there.
Holy shit this unlocked a core memory for me. I was 13 when Shadow came out and I remember playing the soundtrack on loop for, like, three months after the game came out - and then I read somewhere, probably Sonic Cult, about the cut tracks and someone linked to "Broken". That one song was just the right amount of brooding edginess that I would just loop it for hours on end. I had no idea it wasn't written specifically for Shadow. Shadow 05 has probably one of the most interesting OSTs of the Sonic series. Outside of the Sonic Rush games, it relies far more heavily on samples than most Sonic OSTs. Because of that, a lot of backing tracks and synths you hear in the OST can be heard in other non-Sonic media. Off the top of my head, the examples I can think of are the backing track of the title screen is used in a level from the Lilo and Stitch game Stitch: Experiment 626, the backing track of System Select can be heard in one of the unnamed racing themes from the DS version of Need For Speed Underground 2 AND is also heard in Stitch: Experiment 626, and the backing track for Death Ruins is used in a random episode of Teen Titans. The cut vocal tracks are interesting, too. One cool thing is that Sins of a Divine Mother actually put their EP containing both Broken and All of Me up on Spotify. This is kinda funny to me because Almost Dead, a song that is in the final game, is currently NOT on Spotify and is just, strangely absent from the game's OST on there. Likely a rights issue.
The Leitmotif for Glyphic Canyon (same timbre and all) plays in an episode of HSOTD. Couldn't tell you which episode as a friend told me, but I can agree that the music has been used elsewhere!

I could definitely see a timeline where the System Menu Beta Music plays when you first start the game and then as you unlock more endings, more instruments get added until you unlock the Final Story and the final version of the System Menu Music. Speaking of timelines, just think, there's a timeline out there where Mawde talks about the cut vocal songs Chosen One and All Hail Shadow. It's probably the same timeline where Rise of Lyric has the best soundtrack in gaming history.
It’s nice to see All Of Me get some attention, I’ve heard people discuss Broken and Who I Am but I’ve never heard anyone talk about All Of Me until now, it’s always been my absolute fav of the 3 cut songs. It manages to have both a very somber, yet aggressive tone by having a great balance of the acoustic and electric guitar, that really made it stand out to me.

I was very fortunately the age demographic for Shadow The Hedgehog when it came out, played it at E3 and everything. This game means the world to me. Sins of A Divine Mother recently made "All of Me" and "Broken" available on Spotify this year. I'm hoping that these songs will be used in Shadow Generations, as this game is essentially Shadow The Hedgehog 2. I also hope "Broken" and "Who I am" will be included as well. Since Shadow Gens will cover Shadow's history, Sega will have to contact these bands again to obtain the rights to use the songs that were included in Shadow 05. Since Sins of a Divine Mother has put their songs on Spotify, this is the best opportunity for their inclusion.

Thank you for another great video! I love Shadow 05 soundtrack, especially the vocal themes (except Almost Dead) and ever since I've discovered All of Me and Broken, they quickly became my favourites. Even if I really like The Chosen One, I think these two songs are better for the Semi-Hero endings (or at least Semi-Hero-Hero, the one with Black Doom). I even tried listening to them while watching the credits for that route and it felt way more impactful for me. Also, I must admit I really like the beta versions for menu music, I didn't know about their existence before. It's great to hear more unused tracks from this game! :D
I can't find proof of it now it seems, but I remember someone discovered that the system select track is heavily sampled from a disc of sample music tracks. They may have added in the guitar to make it sound a bit more original. If anyone else knows what I'm talking about I'd love to find the video that shows that off again. As an m-flo fan btw I can tell you around that time they were in a phase of doing "m-flo loves..." which was where they'd work with another singer to make a new song (ie: m-flo loves maya, m-flo loves chara, etc) because their original singer had started a solo career. This is only relevant in that one of the shadow advertisements I've seen that uses that remix states "m-flo loves shadow the hedgehog." It works not only as a play on their collab branding but to easily call the game good.
Shadow unironically has one of the best OSTs in all of Sonic. It's a shame these trackers were never used. However considering the quality of said game, maybe it's a blessing in disguise...
I remember hearing somewhere that the cut vocal tracks were meant to play for the neutral endings ( neutral hero & neutral dark ) which makes sense considering both of those endings re-use the dark & hero themes. I also remember hearing that the reason for one of the songs not making it in was either magna-fi or sins thought their song was " too good " to be put in a " silly kid's video game " and so refused to let sega use it. Though this is just rumour/speculation i've seen in comment sections.

Ooo, Beta System Select feels like I'm walking into a cybernetic facility. Beta Main Menu gives a few of those vibes too. Beta Circus Park opens a lil' like a decayed but still active Splatoon area, then kinda... becomes Circus Park again. Bird. Ah, Sega Legal issues. Y'know I didn't really like Who I Am when I listened to it. I don't really know how to put it into words, but... well, I think I Am All of Me is. A massive improvement.

Wow, the early System Select theme sounds even more similar to that racing track from the DS version Need For Speed Underground 2. I knew they both used the same guitar riff sample, but the early version also uses the same drum beat sample.
Wow, never knew about the unused instrumental renditions, I don't think I personally preferred any to the final rendition, but they're interesting. Another great video overall! Liked the pacing of the video and side-by-side comparisions, plus your music transitions were perfectly done, I imagine you used something like Reaper instead of your editing software to makd the audio cuts?
The transitions were done in DaVinci Resolve. I simply put one of the song’s audio on one line, and the second one on the line below that. Then when I was finished showing off the first song on the top line, I faded it’s audio out and faded the other song in at the same time.
Is it just me or was the music of Sonic way more ambitous back then? I knew they had licensed tracks, but not that they collaborated with multiple bands. 12:32 Yeah, in a game about guns, saying an evil word is the real problem. That's just so silly to me.

I've never heard "Shadow the Hedgehog BABY" song until I finished expert mode in Reloaded mod last year. That was so unexpected and funny I decided to record and show it to my friends (I thought it was fanmade), then got copyrighted/whatever before even saving the settings and had to mute most of the video lol.
I remember hearing a lot of the beta music and questioning if that was just an internet rumor or not. But I eventually found out that yes, this music was originally meant to be in the game. Lot of the cut lyrical songs sound pretty good.
I'll be real, if axing Broken from the game meant we now have the banger that is The Chosen One, then everything leading to that was worth it. Easily one of the best songs of the game along with I Am All Of Me and Waking Up
I really love Sins Of A Divine Mother, shame they never got big like Linkin Park, or something they kind of just made one album, and scrammed likely that since All Of Me, went unused and they decided to use their other band didn’t help them become known i literally didn’t know about them until learning of All Of Me, it seems silly they didn’t use it mainly because unless i am unaware of, also the guy with black spiky hair in the band looks like shadow so shame they couldn’t come together since it would have fit. Yeah who i am should have been the final boss it actually got me emotional for shadow when you played it over the final fight.

Interestingly, the last time I tried to look up Mona Lisa Overdrive (which was a few months ago), they're still advertising themselves as "the band that made Chosen One from Shadow the Hedgehog". To be fair, it's because of that song that I ended up looking into them because I really like it, but I couldn't even find information on any other music they'd worked on and they were still relatively active on social media. My brother was more of a fan of Broken, in comparison.
It was great. I really like sonic musics they fuel my life and give me confidence and make me forget pains. I watched this video completely as I am really interested in music histories.

Some of those Reused songs by Sins of a Devine Mother were used in Project Shadow, A Fanfilm that's basically a Sonic Movie 3 Prologue!
Thank you so much for spreading this information to the public and to the younger fans who never not around when this game released. I was very fortunately the age demographic for Shadow The Hedgehog when it came out, played it at E3 and everything. This game means the world to me. Sins of A Divine Mother recently made "All of Me" and "Broken" available on Spotify this year. I'm hoping that these songs will be used in Shadow Generations, as this game is essentially Shadow The Hedgehog 2. I also hope "Broken" and "Who I am" will be included as well. Since Shadow Gens will cover Shadow's history, Sega will have to contact these bands again to obtain the rights to use the songs that were included in Shadow 05. Since Sins of a Divine Mother has put their songs on Spotify, this is the best opportunity for their inclusion.

Thank you for another great video! I love Shadow 05 soundtrack, especially the vocal themes (except Almost Dead) and ever since I've discovered All of Me and Broken, they quickly became my favourites. Even if I really like The Chosen One, I think these two songs are better for the Semi-Hero endings (or at least Semi-Hero-Hero, the one with Black Doom). I even tried listening to them while watching the credits for that route and it felt way more impactful for me. Also, I must admit I really like the beta versions for menu music, I didn't know about their existence before. It's great to hear more unused tracks from this game! :D

I can't find proof of it now it seems, but I remember someone discovered that the system select track is heavily sampled from a disc of sample music tracks. They may have added in the guitar to make it sound a bit more original. If anyone else knows what I'm talking about I'd love to find the video that shows that off again.
As an m-flo fan btw I can tell you around that time they were in a phase of doing "m-flo loves..." which was where they'd work with another singer to make a new song (ie: m-flo loves maya, m-flo loves chara, etc) because their original singer had started a solo career. This is only relevant in that one of the shadow advertisements I've seen that uses that remix states "m-flo loves shadow the hedgehog." It works not only as a play on their collab branding but to easily call the game good.

I made a Sonic vocal tracks playlist and a Fearles: Year of Shadow playslist on Apple Music, and I have All of Me, Broken, and Who I Am on them.
I remember listening to these as a kid, because I never actually had the game. Went on UA-cam a lot to listen to a lot of music like this lol.
Shadow unironically has one of the best OSTs in all of Sonic. It's a shame these trackers were never used. However considering the quality of said game, maybe it's a blessing in disguise...
Considering people venerate Colours, Mania, and Frontiers? Nah, quality of Shadow, 06, and Forces is pretty great in comparison.

I remember hearing somewhere that the cut vocal tracks were meant to play for the neutral endings ( neutral hero & neutral dark ) which makes sense considering both of those endings re-use the dark & hero themes.
I also remember hearing that the reason for one of the songs not making it in was either magna-fi or sins thought their song was " too good " to be put in a " silly kid's video game " and so refused to let sega use it.
Though this is just rumour/speculation i've seen in comment sections.

Probably the reason for some of these coincidences is maybe the people in charge of the music used similar samples (at least that's what i think)

Wow, the early System Select theme sounds even more similar to that racing track from the DS version Need For Speed Underground 2. I knew they both used the same guitar riff sample, but the early version also uses the same drum beat sample.

Wow, never knew about the unused instrumental renditions, I don't think I personally preferred any to the final rendition, but they're interesting. Another great video overall! Liked the pacing of the video and side-by-side comparisions, plus your music transitions were perfectly done, I imagine you used something like Reaper instead of your editing software to makd the audio cuts?
The transitions were done in DaVinci Resolve. I simply put one of the song’s audio on one line, and the second one on the line below that. Then when I was finished showing off the first song on the top line, I faded it’s audio out and faded the other song in at the same time.

I remember hearing a lot of the beta music and questioning if that was just an internet rumor or not. But I eventually found out that yes, this music was originally meant to be in the game. Lot of the cut lyrical songs sound pretty good.

I really love Sins Of A Divine Mother, shame they never got big like Linkin Park, or something they kind of just made one album, and scrammed likely that since All Of Me, went unused and they decided to use their other band didn’t help them become known i literally didn’t know about them until learning of All Of Me, it seems silly they didn’t use it mainly because unless i am unaware of, also the guy with black spiky hair in the band looks like shadow so shame they couldn’t come together since it would have fit. Yeah who i am should have been the final boss it actually got me emotional for shadow when you played it over the final fight.

As you might guess, Broken is the only one of these I really knew about before watching this video. Interestingly, the last time I tried to look up Mona Lisa Overdrive (which was a few months ago), they're still advertising themselves as "the band that made Chosen One from Shadow the Hedgehog". To be fair, it's because of that song that I ended up looking into them because I really like it, but I couldn't even find information on any other music they'd worked on and they were still relatively active on social media. My brother was more of a fan of Broken, in comparison.
