nice that you took a little peek down Angelina's rabbit hole. she was 9 on this song, she arranged it herself from the 1956 original by Screaming Jay Hawkins. She won Norway's Got Talent at age 8 with songs by Billie Holiday, Nancy Sinatra, and the song Summertime from the musical Porky and Bess You are at the very beginning and I hope you continue on your journey because there is a lot to discover, she is the best singer in the world in my opinion) but you will find out for yourself and believe me , They get as addicted to her voice as any other fans (Angels) do, she is also called the barefoot angel with 1000 voices, why she always performs barefoot is another story, she can adapt and improve her voice to any song and moreover many Transport emotions and she has not only written around 180 covers but also 11 originals by her as well as 2 written for her which are all amazing and even now legendary and there is a lot to tell, I look forward to further reactions and have subscribed to you now , greetings from Germany, by the way, she is now 17 years old.
What did I think of it? Absolutely nuts and not even possible that a kid can be that thorough and good in the many ways a performance like that takes. Techniques, control, transitions, timing. She's so good now it's crazy, she's poised to take the world by storm. Just needs to settle into fame, and hopefully for her, not to quickly while somehow getting the recognition and fan growth she deserves mostly. Good in Goodbyes is my favorite of her brand new EP I think. Should you do more 😊

Born Angelina Jordan Astar on January 10, 2006 in Oslo, Norway to her Norwegian mother, Sara Astar and her Swedish father, Gerry Christian Slattman.
Angelina started singing around 18 months of age, after listening to Whitney Houston on UA-cam. She quickly became obsessed with listening to music videos and her maternal grandmother, Mery Zamani got Angelina interested in classic jazz.
Mery Zamani is Iranian and was a prodigy as an artist and poet while growing up in Iran. Angelina attended the Oslo Waldorf School and participated in the Oslo School of Music and Performing Arts after-school program, where starting around age 4, she had training in music but no vocal training. Her teachers were smart enough to not attempt to change what she was doing vocally. More recently she along with her grandmother have designed and made the clothing she wears on stage.
Why Angelina always performs barefoot At age 6, while traveling in the Middle East with her mother and grandmother, Angelina noticed a girl around her age standing on the side of the road, asking people to step on her bathroom scale to be weighed in hopes of getting some money. Angelina took off her shoes so as to not get the scale dirty and stepped on the scale many times to make the girl feel better. Angelina befriends the girl who was not wearing shoes and has scars on her feet, and learns she is an orphan. The orphan girl tells Angelina how beautiful she thinks her shoes are. Angelina says her shoes don’t fit her well and she wants to give her shoes to the orphan girl who thanks Angelina for giving her the shoes. Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, “I want to become a doctor, but that will never happen since I have no parents and I have siblings so I have to do whatever is necessary for us to survive.” Angelina told the girl to never give up on her dreams. The poor girl asked Angelina what she wanted to be when she grew up and Angelina replied that she wanted to sing for the whole world. The poor girl said she would pray every day so Angelina’s dream would come true. Angelina still says she thinks of that homeless girl every day and has always performed barefoot to remind her of all the children who are less fortunate.
At age 9, she became the youngest published author in Norway’s history by writing a book about this encounter in the Middle East. PLEASE PURCHASE Angelina’s book from her merchandise store on her official website, angelinajordanofficial Angelina, at age 6 and 7, did record a few songs in a recording studio at her school, most notably “I Who Have Nothing”, a truly remarkable performance for a 7 year old. At age 7, Angelina’s audition on Norway’s Got Talent, was a cover of Billie Holiday’s “Gloomy Sunday”, a song which was banned by a number of European countries during World War II because authorities worried the song would increase the suicide rate. Truly bizarre that this is the song to launch the career of a child musical prodigy. One of the judges on NGT cried. Angelina had turned 8 years old for her next performance on NGT, covering Billie Holiday’s “I’m a Fool to Want You” singing acapella which was required by NGT unless the singer also played an instrument while singing. This was the Judge’s cut round of the competition and was not performed in front of an audience. In the Semi Final round of NGT, Angelina sang “Bang Bang” which was written by Sonny Bono and was first performed by his wife Cher but is best known sung by Nancy Sinatra. The improvement in each performance is incredible even though there were only a couple months between them. In the Finals, Angelina did a cover of George Gershwin’s, “Summertime” and won the contest, capturing 46% of the votes from the ten finalists. When asked what she would like to do with the prize money she won (500,000 kroner or about $80,000), Angelina replied, “I want to give it to the poor children”. Angelina had become a star in her native Norway and her videos on UA-cam went viral. She gave a few concerts during the summer of 2014 while 8 years old. In December 2014, Angelina realized a life-long desire to sing at the Save the Children's Peace Prize Celebration which is part of the Noble Peace Prize celebration. Angelina’s family took her to United States, Brazil, Germany, France, United Kingdom, Russia, South Korea, Singapore among other corners of Earth, to perform for heads of state and to help raise money for charity. All before Angelina turned 14. At age 9, Angelina recorded a music video covering the 1956 Jay Hawkin’s classic, “I Put a Spell On You”. The video begins by showing Angelina writing her “wishes” for how she wants to perform the song. Angelina has always created her own arrangements for her cover songs. At age 10 and just a week before her 11th birthday, Angelina recorded a demo of “I’m Still Holding Out for You”. Her family never pursued having that recording officially released but someone leaked it on a UA-cam video. Thankfully, everyone involved with that song is now ok with the leaked version. Many angels (fans) believe this is one of Angelina’s best performances. When Angelina was 11, she performed a number of concerts in Norway with a jazz/rock band. Those concerts included up to 14 songs, each remarkably performed. Angelina seems to be at her best when on stage, never nervous, only 100% confident. Also at age 11, Angelina recorded her “It’s Magic” album which has, at times, been in the top 10 best selling jazz albums. On June 27, 2018, at age 12, Jordan performed Frank Sinatra “Fly Me to the Moon” for Quincy Jones in The O2 Arena in London. She has said that was the high point of her young career which was already in it’s 6th year. During 2018, Angelina lost her paternal grandfather, her friend Avicii and one of her idols, Aretha Franklin. She did a moving tribute for each. In 2019, Angelina accepted an invitation to compete in the 2nd season of America’s Got Talent (AGT), The Champions. She had, since age 3, wanted to perform for Simon Cowell and she earned his praise with her genius arrangement of “Bohemian Rhapsody”. The surviving members of Queen loved it so much they put a link to it on their Twitter. Angelina was eliminated after covering Elton John’s “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road”. Angelina’s family refused to sign any agreement with AGT. Angelina, before age 14, had covered more than 130 songs from 80 different artists, spanning at least 8 genres, all of which are available on UA-cam. Angelina has always made changes to each song she covers and often her version is preferred over the original. On UA-cam, search on The Complete Works of Angelina Jordan as Rusty Shackleford has put all songs in one file and has a complete playlist in the description of that video. The pandemic hit shortly after her performances on AGT and likely caused a change of plans by her family, most notably her Uncle Michael who is her manager. Her family agreed to a contract with Republic Records in August 2020. Republic Records declared Angelina Jordan their highest priority new artist. Reportedly her family requested Republic to allow her as normal a childhood as possible and therefore have yet to fully promote her. During the pandemic, Angelina was often seen buying meals for the homeless on the streets of Los Angeles. In November 2020, Angelina released “Million Miles” which she wrote after the passing of her beloved maternal grandfather. She dedicated the song to anyone who has ever lost a loved one. Angelina had previously released, 3 other original songs: “What is Life”, “Oslo” and “Shield” In April 2021, her original “7th Heaven” was released. A jazzy, danceable, inspiring song. Angelina has posted numerous short performances on Tik Tok and Instagram. Angelina had concerts in Norway in July 2022. In December 2022, Angelina performed at the Asian American Awards in Los Angeles. On 2/27/23, Angelina performed at the FIFA Awards ceremony in Paris, France, with a viewing audience in the millions. On May 5th, 2023, Angelina released her original "Love Don't Let Me Go". On July 23th she released her orginal EP “Old Enough”.

She started singing at one and a half years old with a Whitney Huston song no less, of course it wasn't perfect but still impressive for her age.. I don't even remember talking at that age. Now at 17 she is even more awesome. She won Norway's got Talent at 7 years old and that is where I suggest you start with the Bear Foot Princes's journey.. I think you would be mesmerized at her projection of emotion, that a little girl at her age should not have been able to understand. This is the 1st song of hers i experienced and i was blown away. Yes, the vocals, the breath control, the vocal control are all amazing but what stands out for me in this video is her confidence and comfort level. I did not explore her extensive catalog for many months but when i dove into her 150+ covers and originals i was floored. Any style, any genre she sings as easily as you or i breathe. Her ability to interpret and arrange music is comparable to Mozart/ She covers elvis, adele, rhianna, john legend, billie holiday and generally improves the song. I have heard people say Angelina does not cover songs, she uncovers them. She just released her 1st EP as a 17 year old professional and it is packed with jazz and R&B and is truly exceptional. All the music she has done with a couple exceptions was arranged by angelina herself and her originals are all primarily written by her. Best part about her is she is just a really good person and the message in her music is all love and perseverance. I really hope you explore this warren of a rabbit hole.
its 200+ covers and originals. The Original list is growing at a pretty good pace now. It took 4 years to get 5 Originals from age 11 to 15. This version is very similar to the Screamin' Jay Hawkins original (with the wordless singing toward the end that Jay did live). It is amazing to me how Angelina can cover someone and both sound like the original and like herself at the same time. She also does this when she covers Billie Holiday (my very favorite singer).
Angelina is an old soul - she can sing ANYTHING. She is now 17 and her voice is phenomenal! You should check out her covers of My Funny Valentine and Suspicious Minds. She is truly gifted.
A barefoot princess with a hypnotic voice.
She was only 9 years old when she performed this song. It is her tribute to Screamin' Jay Hawkins, an American singer/songwriter. He wrote and performed it in 1956 and Angelina based her performance on the original, although she did make some subtle alterations to both lyrics and melody. As you continue your journey of discovering Angelina, you will come to realise that she does her own arrangements of most of the cover songs she sings. The differences may not be immediately discernible on first listening to them, but they are there. There may be a subtle change in tempo or tone, or more inflexion on some words, or a phrase may differ in pitch from the original. The amount of control that Angelina has over her voice cannot be measured. She never hurries a song. She sings in such a way that the emotions in the lyrics are felt by the listener. In this video did you notice:Angelina finishing some notes and handing them to the pianist, who smiled as he read them? They were her wishes (instructions) to the band how she wished therm to play the music. In the band, she was called a boss.
Thank you for discovering Angelina. I hope you will do many more reactions to her, as she is well worth every nanosecond you spend on her. I have watched and listened to her in awe since she released her first video on UA-cam, and what has been evident to me from the start is that she sings with total conviction, despite the fact that she is far too young to have experienced the events suggested in the lyrics of the song she has chosen to sing. But it is not only that, for strange as it may seem is the even more remarkable fact that she can convey the appropriate emotions within those lyrics to her listener.
This is Angelina's tribute to Screamin' Jay Hawkins, who wrote and performed the song in 1956 (50 years before Angelina was born). She based her arrangement on his original performance, although she discarded all the theatrics and allowed her voice and body language to tell the story. The song has been covered by many singers over the years, but to my knowledge, Angelina is the only one who has sung in the same style as the original.
There are many things I found particularly worthy of note in this video. Some I recognised immediately and those I missed were brought to my attention by the more observant Angelina fans (her Angels) and I thank them for letting me know what I had missed. Another Angelina "Angel" has pointed out something else which I had missed, and it is added at (l) below,
(a) Angelina finishing writing last minute changes she wanted and handing them to the Music Director, who smiled.
(b) A brief glimpse of Mery Zamani, Angelina's maternal grandmother, a well known and respected Iranian Artist and poet who was also a child prodigy. She was the person who recognised Angelina's talent at an early age and exposed her to all the old time jazz singers.
(c) The candle with an image of Screamin' Jay Hawkins on it.
(d) The smile on the face of the Bass player.
(e) How she rose on to her toes on the last occasion she sang "...because you're mine"
(f) The fact she occasionally refers to her written notes on the music stand. Possibly to remind herself of the last minute changes she wanted.
(g) Her unwavering passion throughout the performance. Evidenced by her facial expressions and the way she uses her hands and body to emphasise the direction of the song.
(h) The way she takes a breath just before she starts the last phrase (I don't care.....) and that breath lasts the whole of that sustained note. A child of that age should not have the ability to hold a note for that length of time.
(i) At the end, when she sings I Doooont Caaaaare, she employs TWO separate and distinct vibratos to the word care, a wide one to start the word and a tighter one to close the word
(j) The instant transformation from "performance" mode to that of a pensive child, possibly wondering whether she could have done better. I comment on the "pensive" child because Angelina has an incredible work ethic and seeks to perform every song in a way she considers will bring out all the emotions within the lyrics and melody.
(k) Perhaps the most remarkable is that despite her tender years, she sings with such total conviction that her authenticity is never in doubt. It is easy to believe that she has experienced the events described in the lyrics. It is not only her voice that is mesmerising, it is also her facial expressions, and the way she uses her hands and body. Her stage presence is electrifying.
(l) The performance absolutely is powerful and raw but to me, I am amazed that this is balanced by the profound beauty of the ending phrase; the last twelve words of the song. AND… they are essentially sung a cappella!
Angelina has been referred to as the "Queen of Jazz", "The Barefoot Princess", "The girl with a thousand voices". All of them are true, but I prefer the nickname I gave her after listening to about six of her performances. For me, she is "The Chameleon of Song", for as a chameleon is able to change its colour to match its surroundings, so Angelina is able to change the "colour" of her voice to accurately match the needs of the song to reveal the emotions within the lyrics and melody. Even more remarkable is her innate ability to communicate those same emotions to her listeners.
Including covers and originals, Angelina has over 200+ performances. So, no sweat; you should be able to catch up in no time -- say, maybe, a couple of years! Lol! Angelina is a phenomenon, and will be known worldwide in a year or two. She already has over 2 BILLION views on all social media platforms! Briefly (as there are others that will do a much better job telling you her story), nine in this video, won Norway's got talent at age 8 (auditioned singing Billie Holiday's Gloomy Sunday), signed by Republic records at 14 after appearing on AGT The Champions, now 17 and just released her first EP last week. Well protected by her family. Raised on jazz by her grandmother. Part of the Republic deal was virtually no promotion until she graduated from high school. She has one of those rare voices that stands out above all others. But most importantly, she has the ability to convey the emotion and meaning of a song like no one else I have ever heard. I spent an entire day listening to her original song Million Miles, written about the loss of her beloved grandfather, and cried for hours. It was like she had the ability, through her music, to reach into my soul and find all the pain and hurt I didn't even know was there and let it go. She is truly, one of a kind.

A nice first reaction! Oh boy, you are going to be bombarded by her fans called Angels that will fill you in on this music prodigy with an old soul from Norway. She's basically been a star since she was 7 years old. First and foremost, she is a jazz singer but has the ability to sing any genre. She also does all of her own musical arrangements. Her early influences are Billie Holiday, Dinah Washington, and Etta James to name a few. Her love of jazz came from her grandmother playing jazz music around her when she was young. In 2014, she entered at age 7 and won Norway's Got Talent at the age of 8. With her new found fame, she used it to appear on many shows from abroad and help raise millions for the less fortunate children around the world. At age 13, she was invited to participate on America's Got Talent: The Champions in 2020. She shocked the audience and the judges with her rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen. She received a standing ovation from all and got the Golden Buzzer from judge Heidi Klum to go straight to the Finals. Her performance went viral and even the group Queen responded on Twitter by saying, " Wow, what a rendition!" For Queen to respond to someone covering one of their songs is quite a feat since they rarely react to anyone . Not only that, but she received the copyrights for her version of this song from Queen, which makes it hers now. She did not win, but her fan base grew and expanded her popularity.

She had a single that came out May 5th called Love Don't Let Me Go, a new EP called Old Enough coming out Friday, July 21st, a newly released video of her new song called Now I'm The Fool, and a new album of original music which will be coming out later this year. She recently returned back to Norway and performed at a number of sold out concerts in which fans from around the world came to see her. I am I big fan of Angelina Jordan. So I subscribed to your channel in hopes you will check her out further. She is 17 years old now and just recently released her EP with Republic Records. She has been singing since she was 1-1/2 years old and started with mostly jazz standards.

When I first dove in, I was up till 4:00 am (on a work day no less) I simply could not stop listening to each new song I found. I've heard a lot of music, and a lot of singers and I've never heard anyone like her. It's going on 6 years now that I have listened to her sing at least once every day (usually a lot more). Edited after watching to add: You are going to be bombarded with her fans pretty soon, happens to all her new reactions. But I wanted to tell you how much I think you will appreciate her Ty. She has been "famous" since 6 when she entered, and won, Norways Got Talent. English is not her first, maybe not even second, language. You probably noticed her bare feet and this is what I wanted you to know about her. When she was very young, she was travelling in Iran and met a small girl who was weighing people in the market to earn money. The girl had no shoes on and her feet were scarred. Angelina gave her the shoes she was wearing and promised to never perform in public with shoes on until all the children in the world have shoes. She is 17 now and still keeps that promise.
There are lots of big performances people may suggest, but my personal favorite is her rendition of "Stay". Just her and a guitarist quietly taking my breath away.

As others have said she just recently released a banger of an EP of 6 originals songs. She released a full album at age 12 (recorded at age 11). Besides a large catalog of UA-cam videos she has released several singles. She also confirmed last night in a live chat that a full album will be released later this year.
Us fans are hoping that this is her breakout year as she has pretty much intentionally been kept under the radar so that she would have as much of a normal childhood as possible.

*Why Angelina always performs barefoot*
At age 6, while traveling in the Middle East with her mother and grandmother, Angelina noticed a girl around her age standing on the side of the road, asking people to step on her bathroom scale to be weighed in hopes of getting some money. Angelina took off her shoes so as to not get the scale dirty and stepped on the scale many times to make the girl feel better. Angelina befriends the girl who was not wearing shoes and has scars on her feet, and learns she is an orphan. The orphan girl tells Angelina how beautiful she thinks her shoes are. Angelina says her shoes don’t fit her well and she wants to give her shoes to the orphan girl who thanks Angelina for giving her the shoes.
Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, “I want to become a doctor, but that will never happen since I have no parents and I have siblings so I have to do whatever is necessary for us to survive.” Angelina told the girl to never give up on her dreams.
