You got a camera you're looking at picking up soon? What about a dream camera? Ready, go..
Is there something wrong with full frame sensors for streaming? Am I too picky?
Andrew Lewis Just price. Both of my streaming cameras are full frame. This is a budget camera video.

How do I spend my money right for streaming. Im kinda confused.
Current camera: Sony A5100
Dream camera: Canon XC10
I just picked up an a6400 so I could shoot in 4k and stream with it. Even with HDMI out for streaming, it blows away the a5100 (not in value, but in quality).
Me vlogging with my Nintendo 2DS
Subbed so I can watch them ;)
me vlogging with my glacier GBA
nice
damn i was really hoping to see some content on your channel lol
respect...
For someone not super versed on cameras, it would be cool to have sort of "camera settings for best streaming" or "do's and don'ts for stream set up with livestreaming." Love your videos and have learned so much already. You've helped so much and I just love watching your vids and learning! So thank you for doing what you do!

i thought b was the best and c was the worst
I currently own an M200 and there are a few things you must know!!!
-It overheats after 30 minutes of recording so don't expect long videos.
-Live streaming you'll need a camlink and dummy battery in order to use it. (it won't overheat if you have these)
-Although you can change the aperture and ISO settings, this is still a grainy and somewhat blurry effect to backgrounds and shadows. I put it in 4k and it still slightly has it, it's just not as noticable.
-If you are new to cameras you cannot get the wide angle lenses like Harris unless you have an EF adapter. Please be aware they can cost up to $150-$200 for a quality one.
-Lastly, you won't really be able to really get good color correction on it. It's good but don't expect Alpha Gaming level of adjustment.
I'm no camera pro so don't take my advice to heavily but I have run into those issues. However, if you get past all the minor details the M200 is an EXCELLENT starter camera. Besides the overheating and grainy shadows (Which nobody notices on a stream, just UA-cam), this camera allows for good versatility. Just don't expect to go vlogging all day without cool down breaks.
Happy streaming.
1-Most cameras will overheat during long recording sessions however this isnt a problem for streaming because you arent recording anything, just displaying an image
2-Pretty much all cameras will require a camlink too, some support liveview through usb but is pretty laggy and inconsistent. all 3 of this cameras also need a dummy battery
3-Noise will always be present on shadows even while shooting at 100iso, thats why photographers will use "Fake darkness" for dark photoshoots
4-This is a common problem with all of them really, sony's mount even tho is older is not THAT old so finding cheap lenses is kinda hard and the lumix mount is a thing of its own
5-YOU CAN get pretty good color correction adjusting the camera white balance and not the obs settings, the canon software lets you create custom profiles on your pc and uploading them to your camera
@@motorheadkilling Very helpful info.
But what perhaps is Fake Darkness? I see UA-camrs with dark rooms and colored lights like normal with barely any grain at all but I do it and it flairs through the video even with sunlight in my room. I am clearly oblivious to something.
Great comparison of these top budget picks. I think all of these cameras work with the CamlInk 4K for streaming BUT, the Canon also works with Canon's beta streaming software (which is free) and which I can download right now. "Free" and "immediately available" are nice features that make me want to go with the M200.
Hi! What about best budget streaming camera who power via usb in 2021?
You have 1.4 mil subs and no likes..... WOW
oh my gosh a reviewer who shows the vid quality of the camera properly thhankkkkuuuuuu. lots of reviews about specs and talking about performance are always good but there's nothing like seeing that vid feed on youtube side by side ! great stuff! this really informed my purchase decisions
Love your vids man, definitely has helped me SO much setting my stream up! Thank you :)
I actually really like the colors on the canon, it makes the setup look less canned and artificial and more vibrant. However, I'm also going to assume based on your reactions and previous shots that the Sony and Lumix cameras were more color-accurate
Bro I've been streaming for about 2 years but have recently stumbled across your videos and wish I had all of these available for me in 2016! Hahaha. Seriously, I'm learning a lot from your stream tips videos. I appreciate it!
I just returned my Panasonic Lumix FZ300 (bridge camera) to Amazon. Ordering a Sony a5100 from Ebay tomorrow morning. I appreciate this video, I've been watching your content for a while! It's going to be great to actually have a DSLR to stream with and create some content with!
I liked the quality of the FZ300, but I couldn't change the lens and my room has funky lighting so my image would always have a lot of noise. I can't wait to start streaming with the Sony instead! Thank you again for this video, and have an awesome day!
B was my favorite without knowing the cameras
samesies
Same!
One of the nice things about the Lumix G7 / Micro-4-3rd is that one can improve the picture quality by mounting a SpeedBooster on it....I put a Viltrox EF-M2 on it and used a Tokina SD 11-16mm f2.8 (IF) DX II on it which mathematically makes it a 15.62-22.72mm with an f-stop of 1.988 (bringing more light to the sensor allowing to eliminate noise by using a lower ISO) and a DOF like 3.976 on FullFrame.....calculate xyz x 0.71 (Speedboost by this Viltrox) x 2 (for m43rd).....a very nice lens is also Sigma 18-35 f1.8
Thank you so much for sharing such helpful advice and tips when it comes to equipment you bring the best aspects to a youtube video when it comes to filming and balancing informative and a sense of humor makes for the best content I have ever watched
I've looked at so many videos on this topic and they all were a waste of time. This video was the most helpful!!! Thank you so much!!!
This guy has helped me oit more than he knows highly recommend watching his videos, question harris What games do you play on twitch?
I picked up an M50 for 700€, I'm super happy with it. Setting it up needed a bit more research, but i was able to make it work with OBS. U need to use manual focus to get rid of the square in the middle, and you need to use Canon's PC app, to keep the camera not turning off after 30min. But it works and its great for Vlogging. has an external mic jack. Its a combination of Lumix and m200 in the same package. I just wanted to point out if someone needs a camera that can work well for vlogging and streaming. *cheers*
5:06 "Pull this out, tell me how you feel"
Hey! That's my line!!
Would love to see the shot by shot comparison between the cameras on the exact same manual settings - and I'm actually curious of Canon has stunted the M200 like they do with some of their other entry level cameras by not offering a kelvin white balance selector, instead they have some weird graph looking thing that doesn't accomplish much. Being able to kelvin match your white balance on camera to your lights like the A5100 can will make a big difference.
Also a thing to note about micro four thirds cameras is because of their smaller sensor size it doesn't have as much bokeh - what I mean by this is, say you have the Sony Sigma 16mm F1.4 lens. To get a lens with both the equivalent focal length that APS-C 16mm produces and the shallow depth of field that 1.4 produces, you would need a 12mm F1.1 lens.
coming in thinking my budget is a 100$ xD going back the way I came in.
there's a huge jump in price between webcams and pro cameras, but there's nothing in between
@@serenalese1 Go pros??
Get a c920 for 50 bucks very high quality
@@nanoxus1121 they used to be $50. Now they're listed for $80 and out of stock, except for people posting them for $200+
serenalese in denmark wr can get them perfectly fine for 35$ used :)
Edit : this sounded cocky just wanted to day if you guy wanted to look for a used one
Regarding ISO on the Lumix: you have an option for the full stop or 1/3 stop jumps in iso, when the camera is set to any of the photo modes; change it there, go back to video and you should be able to adjust it with 1/3 stops.
Cheers

why is the most popular gta youtuber's comment only have 2 likes in 10 months.
One of the best comparson vids of (these) cameras out there. Thanks!
Thanks for the ISO stops tip on the G7 Sam, much appreciated!
if you will have a youtube channel alongside doing streams, its much better to pick the Lumix g7 mostly due of the mic input, it really changes the game vs using the default mic from the camera, or it helps in skipping the process of using an external recorder and then sync the audio in post.
if you still doubt about the G7, Cinemassacre AKA The Angry Video Game Nerd makes his HD videos now with this camera.
Can I just say I appreciate that text editing to line up with your hand moving whilst holding the different cameras, that is some frame by frame shit and its only a small detail but adds a lot to your video.
I was so dope about that effect
Thanks for making this - not many camera reviews even cover the stuff you go over
This is the information I’ve been looking for. Thank you bro
One thing to note about the a5100, the price changes A LOT on Amazon. I watched it for a while and saw the price bounce between $400-$600. I ended up snagging mine with the kit lense for $398 brand new. So, if you're thinking about grabbing an a5100, just watch the prices for a while and grab it when they are low.
MrSpwn thank you for the advice senior
thanks for the info, prolly gonna try to snag one around tax time so hopefully a good sale like you got pops up :)
Use honey
Does it have any overheating issues when it is used as a web camera though? I've read reviews online for a5100 that cite overheating issues so I'm curious. Edit: Ah I see Harris talks about that at the @14:30 mark
@@johnsmithjr.9321 can confirm it does doesnt happen often but it can happen, jsut throw it by a ac or fan and its bliss
9:24 personally I’ve always ran 1/120 for my shutter speed since the general rules of thumb when filming is double your FPS. In your opinion streaming is different?
Does it vary in your light confusions as well?
Raising up an 8mo old comment haha: Harris said in the video that the 1/60 shutter speed at 60p is to get the most light in and since you're not a fast moving or constant moving object the 180 rule for video isn't a huge issue - and your camera is usually the PiP on your gameplay which further reduces what people would notice by running your shutter speed a little slower.
@@Nathan_Lundstrom he is wrong there are other issues when shooting at same frame and shutter
@@peachesasmr9366 he’s implying those issues are ignorable when your face cam is PiP on a stream and your gaming content is the main focus.
oh snap
I guess I know where your brilliance comes from
This is the video that I was looking for. Thank you so much! Really hepful.
I grabbed the a5100 on black Friday and absolutely love it. Thanks for the advice!!
What about the SL3 or EOS250D (Same thing different naming).
Tbh i think canon is the best choice overall especially considering the pricing for the objectives.
As someone with an EOS camera, that "lens lock" is so when taking photographs, the press of the shutter button won't auto focus while trying to take the photo. its a focus lock essentially. It allows you to manually focus without having to worry about the camera ruining the perfectly focused shot.
@AllenSeeAllenDo You leave the lens lock off while streaming as to have auto focus enabled but also have the option to leave the lens lock on while taking photos of close up objects so the camera doesn't focus the background when hitting the shutter button. You can have the lens lock on while taking videos or streaming as well, since it's a manual lock.
Canon M100 here (predecessor to M200). A perfect camera for auxiliary filming (B-Roll) and streaming. Streaming with it DOES require some simple hacks to enable getting around the 30 minute LCD/HDMI out limit.
literally this channel is my first stop for anything stream/content creation/gear related
Hey Harris, I remember you talking about some really cheap Chinese webcams and was wondering if you could make a vide on them
I prefer Camera C for image quality, and Camera A for quality with a nice FoV on the kit lens. Camera B got some weird over exposure and color temp issues imo.
Just bought the a5100, super excited. Thanks Harris!
I think I'm still gonna go with the Sony A6400. It costs a bit more but should cover all the points that were touched on in this video. Thanks for your help with the knowledge that you provided.
"A" to me looks the best... I love me some WIDEEE action
Me seeing 4K and 120fps for “starter streamers” vs my bank account
Ive been using the G7 for video work for a while, after removing the jingly bits of course. one of the best features about it is that with a simple adaptor you can use any camera lens system and there is a plethora of m4/3 lenses for it already. the light weight factor is only a problem when balancing it on my glidecam where i have to add weight to the top for balance. But it's been my daily shooter for 4 years and i've more then made back the money i spent on it. That being said I would probably switch to the sony for just streaming purposes and as a backup camera
Great points and I think these are all great cameras to pick up for both vlogging and streaming! My question is about pocket cameras such as the canon g7x mark iii or the sony rx100 v5/6/7. They are more expensive but if the smaller form factor is ideal and you dont care (aka will never buy) additional lens, which would have the most balance for doing both activities?
One thing I'll say about the G7 - Its a long lasting tank of a camera. I've had one as my main stream cam for about 4 years now and almost never turn it off and its still chugging to this day. Def gonna get a canon m200 as a B cam this year though. Canon's low end stuff is infamous for the unbalanced reds but it suits my skin tone really well with little correction
There are literally no amazon links for the cameras? Are you kidding me? :D Soo many people bought one after this amazing video man.
What would you recommend for a bump up for each camera? Considering the a5100 but would very much like to have something more current.
dude, you are awesome man. I am planning on running a regulas casual stream for fun, but I'm looking to start video content creation for my music channel, and you rock
I feel like I’m the only one that prefers the Canon Camera 🧐
You're not the only one. At the same time, I have many Canon Lenses so that sways my opinion a little.
I use the Canon SL2 and I love it.
Aside from the 'pink' hue, I thought the canon had a better picture, at least in this video. Maybe Harris was able to get a better visual on source.
Well I guess the “pink hue” was a result of Auto wb and green light that was shining on his white jacket 🤷♀️
@@menajacobs6674 i agree canons auto white balance isnt the best coming from a canon user i kind of throw it into indoors wb while streaming that way i can use custom for photography needs
i have the lumix g7 and its perfect for streaming ! and generally as a camera for photo and video
john chatzis13 but the autofocus is trash, I’m probably getting the Sony a5100 for the wide FOV, don’t need a mic on it because i won’t be clogging and the autofocus is pretty good
Hey! Can you tell me how you have the g7 setup for streaming? Do you have to have a capture card for any camera to be used as a webcam?
A note to save some headaches regarding framerates on some of these cameras if you buy in a PAL region (like the UK). You may find they max out at 50fps instead of 60.
The Sony A5100 will record at 25/50fps if set in PAL mode but change it to NTSC and you'll get the options of 30/60fps.
The Lumix G7 will be stuck at 25/50fps but can be unlocked to 30/60 with some secret button presses (Google it).
Don't know about the Canon but I did own the M50 and that had all the options without having to mess around.
If you get "flicker" from electric lights after changing to 30/60 fps modes then just alter your shutter speed manually to be a multiple of 50 (so 50 or 100 usually). Online guides will say its the framerate and thats why its limited to 50 in PAL regions (to match the frequency of the electric supply) but it isn't, its the shutter speed that matters - by default its set to be a multiple of the framerate and thats why framerate often appears to "fix" the issue :)
I've learned this through bitter experience as a UK dweller who has bought cameras based on reviews from the US where they have the luxury of all cameras having 30/60fps as standard, perfect for online video :)
That lens lock I have found is for top down shots. Usually you want your lens at its widest angle shooting top down, but some lenses like to slowly slide into becoming telephoto due to gravity. I have no idea if that's the official use, but when I've tried top down shots for certain content, that lens lock has saved me a ton of headaches.
Make a best settings on Sony 5100
Like: "Game changer settings to your Sony 5100 quality"
Depends on where you film and under what lightning. Best bet would be to go and learn what all of the settings do and end with settings that you feel are fine.
“B” looked the best to me.
Good information, well executed. Great Video
Thanks for the help.
I keep asking people what's a good camera for someone with a budget and they keep saying, "Oh, get this one, get that one", and they're like $1300 or something. So thank you. $500 is still a little higher than I'd like, but it's better than 1-2 Grand.
Definitely going for that Canon M200. That baby looks slick.
thanks for making this vid. a 5100 im going for.
"and this is what the panasonic camera sounds like if you put this professional microphone on top of it" was a statement and a message LMFAO
I’ve got a Sony a5100 with a cam link, and always get compliments on stream 😊
AshhhK5 but what lens tho??
Kenfloww I’m not sure it’s not the kit lens, I got the camera boxed and 4k cam link for £250
Normally it should say on the side of the lens what kind it is.
Do you have an issue with audio syncing?
rusty4104 nope not at all.
Hey Harris,
Love your videos I use them for all recommendations on tech and purchases. I do however have a Nikon D3400 dslr it DOES have a clean HDMI. But it times out every 30
Minutes. It was $500. Sure it’s an older camera but I’ve had it for a while.
Really useful video & Review - Great Job, I was going to get the Canon M200 but then saw the Canon M50 with an extra Lens for a great price so i've gone for that. Sony was incredibly tempting too. I also wanted one that is compatible with the CamLink USB converter for Live Streaming, the A5100 is, but it does not list the M200 as compatible, another reason for getting the M50 instead, although i'd guess the M200 probably does work with CamLink ;-)
I bought the Sony a5100 and I'm loving it! THOUGH I should let you all know that you'll want it in movie mode for it to auto focus better for streams, photo modes focus changes super often and is really messy for video and streams. If I talked or changed facial expressions it'll refocus which a lot of us wouldn't want as sensitive. Movie mode is better at a more subtle refocus and isn't as finicky
Hello there , is your camera a digital cam? I'm planning on buying a digital Sony a5100 camera , do you recommend it?
@@thr3shel3arab5 I use the Sony a5100, and it’s digital. It’s really great however keep in mind it’s the second hand market now and the prices have been pretty high, you may be able to find an equivalent for much cheaper saving you a couple hundred dollars at least. Harris either in this video or another breaks down the features you want in a camera for streaming, hdmi out and a flip out screen being the most important. Sony ax5100 is amazing but I’m seeing it sell for nearly double now
@@Portal64 thank you mate I appreciate it !
Do you think a Canon 1200d is a good option ? I found one for an affordable price and I'm curious about it .
The Sony a5100 has a bug that keeps the "soft skin" effect enabled if you output over HDMI regardless of your settings. This has been a thing since the camera first released and they just... never fixed it. I'd avoid the a5100 for this purpose.
Do you still have this issue and does it make the camera unusable for streaming?
Great video! Would be really cool to see a pt 2 talking about lenses for streaming.
Just got the Sony a5100 yesterday and it is a MASSIVE improvement from the webcam. That with the Elgato Cam Link was about as plug and play as you can get!

Hello there, is your Sony A5100 a digital camera ? Or with changeable lenses ? Cuz I'm planning on getting a digital one , don't know if it's worth ..
To summarize the different auto adjust abilities:
Sony - "Sup dude!"
Cannon - "Oh heck wait!.... k got it!"
Lumix - "Huh?"
lumix's autofocus is internet explorer
I actually prefer the Canon image...by a fairly wide margin. Great content upload
Salute my Alphabrethren
This is great. Really enjoy your videos.
Very very informative! I am in the market for a camera and I was leaning toward 4k but that Sony just may have changed my mind!!!!
I wish I had enough money to be able to consider these "budget" camera's 😂
Getting a nice camera has never been cheap. I just bought a Nikon Z50 and with 2 lenses for like $1200 and even this camera doesn't have it all. It's crazy how much these things actually cost
The idea is to put them in your "budget."
0:17 counting like a big boy :D
Thanks for this! That Sony is looking like a strong candidate for a future gear update.
Nice job on the video, I didn't know the Canon M200 was good for streaming. The M50 has a ton of drawbacks like only semi-clean HDMI (AF has to be disabled to avoid a box showing up when it finds a face. It also won't stay on past 30 minutes unless it's attached to a computer through USB and then have their tethering app running in the background (just to keep the camera from shutting down after 30 minutes... lol).
Out of the three, the Lumix is the one I need. I want to be able to hook up an external mic for my UA-cam channel!
canon have the m50 which is a upgrade to the m200 maybe have a look into that camera too
Don’t get the cannon the incrop is the wrist out of all these cameras. So you lose a lot of Fidelity in videos.
@@NovaDoll there's a crop with the lumix in 4k too, 4k isn't the target market for those cameras, if he wants a budget 4k camera the sony a6400, canon g6 mkii or the fujifilm xt3 are the way to go without a crop, but for 1080p the g7 and the m50 both have mic inputs which he said he wants for yt
@@IVI2sR4VE True. I'm looking to upgrade (currently using my iphone 7 plus as a camera) in the next year. I haven't started streaming yet, and I probably won't be streaming for a while. Trying to get myself situated on UA-cam first before I enter the streaming world! But I appreciate the input from the both of you. Much appreciated!
Can't a Samsung s10 camera do better? I can shoot at 920 fps on slow mode+ it has 4k.
Am I missing something or are these camera's worse than cell phone cameras?
"A" seems the best
I just stumpled upon your videos. Very informative and well done, thanks for that. :)
One question though: What are your thoughts about camcorders for streaming? At least in the EU most photo cameras (like in this video) are artifically restricted to a maximum video length of 29 minutes and 59 seconds (due to customs regulations). Not sure if this always affects the hdmi live view as well, but if so, all ot these cameras are out of the picture.
Thank you very much for this video! Really helped to pinpoint what I would look into for streaming. I want to do keyboard build videos for example, which usually takes upwards of 3 and 4 hours if not longer. I like that these cameras can continue to stream without turning off, my concern is battery life. I mean how long can they last on one charge? How can I plug them in and to what? I'll do some more research but I find this part of the streaming process often overlooked in a lot of these review videos.
Dummy battery
I Heard that the Sony A5100 get to hot over 30min. Can Somebody confirm this or has Something to say Like to buy a Fan idk :(
He addressed this in the video. It can when recording, does not when just streaming over HDMI. And if you keep the screen partially lifted it gets warm, but won't overheat.
I went and looked up the prices for these cameras and DAMN MY BROKE ASS CHOKED!
All used camera prices went up during covid

Well, you can still use Nikon with Nikon Patch Firmware for streaming, I am using D5100 and works well for Skype. D5200 have clean hdmi out, but you still have to disable livewiev shut down after 15min.
Currently running a Canon sl2 with a Tokina 11-20mm 2.8f lens. Pretty happy with it for streaming, vlogging and pictures. Would love a full-frame camera tho for that low light awesomeness!

I'm sorry for this but out of context.... "I said to my wife, pull this out and tell me how it feels, and she said, oh this feels really cheap"
I just tuned into your 24 hour stream and you said this video would be out in the next month. Who knew it would be so soon.

I feel the g85 is such a step up over the g7 while not being much more expensive when found used. You get ibis, loose the AA filter, way more rugged build quality, weather sealed...
Awesome comparison. Thanks!
Great Video, Thanks, but I've checked the reviews of each camera you mentioned, some of them overheat and shutdown while streaming!!
