What in the world is this fantastic beast of a mid 80's creation. I cant stop staring...I cant stop wondering how I missed this when I was 16 years old?
Great car - well done for reviewing it. I have owned two of those (Turbo) and still rate it as probably the best all-round car I have owned. They were used every day and never had a problem (once I had sorted the cooling hoses out to keep fluids in the car instead of on the road). I still have 2x Alpines (old and new A110) - and I have to say even the new A110 is lacking in some areas that the GTA was great at (it's not as 'planted')
Maybe they should have used the Alpine as the Time Machine instead of the DeLorian. I think it would have been even more cool than the stainless steel wonder. If that's possible.
Haven't clicked on a Hoovie video so quickly in a long time. I have always loved the Alpine. It's a rare car in Europe so to find one in the US is a total score. Brilliant content 👍

They're not just metric tires, they are Michelin TRX. You can still get them new but they cost a lot to replace, as I think Michelin only produces a few batches per year. And of course, just like the PAX you had on the Phantom, the rims are specific, so you can't put anything else without replacing them.
HOT DAMN!! I suggested this to you, Hoovie, on the Plymouth Prowler video. It was an excellent vehicle and even today it sounds like the car has stood the test of time.
I was a test driver for American Motors / Jeep / Renault in the 80s; I was lucky enough to drive many thousands of miles in these (turbo only, non-turbo was not spec'd for US sale, I think). It's an amazing car, for the open road. A French 911, and would bite you if mistreated. We were ready to go to market, then Chrysler came along and bought AJR. A bit of work to drive, but fairly comfortable, as long as it didn't get too hot outside. The turbo V6 in the back was a joy to listen to over the miles. It's not as weird as you portray. But thanks for brining back some memories.
i'd love to see Tyler or Daddy Doug trying out other 80's &90's cars that never made it over there at the time, but may have now come in on the grey market like Citroen BX and XMs, Renault Clio Williams, Sierra Sapphire Cosworth, or even a Metro 6R4

I'm glad it drives as nice as it looks though! Shame you didn't get the Turbo version though as that had significantly more power.
The body panels are cut out using a very high pressure stream of water, and space age adhesives glue it all together. Fabulous car that LJK Setright raved about. Many parts from the Renault 25 except the cross plane crank in the turbo. Turbo is 200 bhp.
There’s a modified intake manifold for those cars that fixes the issue with the front two cylinders being starved for fuel. Another plus is, you can then use a Holley carb.
Growing up in a Renault household as a kid i've always liked these. Wouldnt mind owning one but the thought of how scarce parts and knowledge is of these vehicles in Aus I think its best to just steer clear.

These were highly regarded for their handling and at times even better than Porsches back then but not being an established well known brand and quite niche it did not sell that highly. I had one, the A310 pack GT. The '86 weighed 2513 lb not 2700 in atmospheric. My '84 A310GT weighed 1025 kg. After 180,000 miles it caught fire and burned from a gas leak. Alpine used a 10,1:1 compression ratio and a Solex 34tbia with a Solex 35ceei added in by vacuum. This was in the Peugeot 604 SL at 8,8:1 compression ratio, of which I have 2.

Even the face-lift one with pop-up headlights is one of the most beautiful cars ever I've ever seen.
Love the E.T seats
Im loving the exposure that French cars are finally getting, for a long time theyve been over looked, and i think now theyre finally starting to be understood, or atleast being given some time in the spotlight.
A bad rep doesn't help but they are usually so unique and have their own charm. Many were so innovative, especially decades ago.
@@NeedMoarRage A big part of the bad rep is simply from the fact that they didn't have the same kind of dealer network in the States as many others did.
Hoovie's the kind of guy who reviews a Renault Alpine.

Definitely one of my favorite episodes. As a kid in the '80s I remember this car well. Never got to see a review like this. Thanks so much.
This thing looks like a French Mitsubishi Starion
Exactly what I was going to say. With a little Tbird thrown in
Holley Molley as a Frenchman living in the US for decades this is an incredible find! Enjoy it the older Alpines were very successful in early rallye races!
Don't go enjoying it too much, if it breaks you'll play hell trying to find a part for it
The A110 is my favorite car of all time.
Car enthusiasts: "Renoh Alpeen"
Casual Americans: "Renalt Al-Pyne"
It's actually Reh-no hahahaha
nope, it's rönöö :D
@Alfred Barham in French we pronounce it Alpeen
Car enthusiasts: NISS-san, Sue-bar-ROO, MAZ-da
Casual Americans: NEE-san, Sue-BAR-roo, MARZ-da
It doesn't matter, Americans won't be able to correctly pronounce it either way
What in the world is this fantastic beast of a mid 80's creation.
Doc: "Marty, we have to buy an Alpine in order to fix things in the future!"
Maybe they should have used the Alpine as the Time Machine instead of the DeLorian. I think it would have been even more cool than the stainless steel wonder. If that's possible.
Thanks for the correct pronunciation of both Renault and Alpine! Love these cars.
Haven't clicked on a Hoovie video so quickly in a long time. I have always loved the Alpine. It's a rare car in Europe so to find one in the US is a total score. Brilliant content 👍
I think this generation of apline is just so damn cool, from the cockpit to the engine to the look, just everything about it is 80‘s in the best way possible
That Renault radio stalk is still used in today's Renaults. Highly intuitive while driving.
And on Dacias aswell. :)
does this remind you of the foxbody mustang?
Easiest to use radio stalk even to this day.
Never seen someone say this much positive things about a Renault product!!
Peugeot/Citroen make some great vehicles today
@@tnickknight but this is a RENAULT. And the one renault I drive is a Master Van and it even worse then a Ford transit.
Evidently you never drove/owned a LeCar. I Had my 1982 4 door until 1999 when I had to turn it in to the salvage yard when I went to jack it up one day to change a flat tire and the jack went up but the car didn't. Rust was the killer. still ran great.
Jack Cooper My first car was a peugeot exactly haahaha

I love this channel for cars like these. UA-cam is full of lanborghinis and mclarens. This is genuinly something else and interesting
Brilliant idea having your dog walk around during the ad, that’s the only reason I didn’t skip it! 😂😂
THIS is what a poster car should look like. Been wanting one of these for years. Get ready for Alpine V6 prices to go up lads!
Doug is the type of man to pump out videos on boring crossover videos for hits,
while Hoovie is a man of other means and always gives us the goods.
Hi, I’m from South Africa, if you ever need metric tyres, give me a shout, we use them an I’ll help you to buy the correct ones.
How much are 190/390 HR 390?
Where about?
been living in Dieppe where the factory sits from 1985 to 1988. We used to see them driving around town for testing... Loved it !
Imagine bringing this to Radwood, heads would explode
There was a brown one at Radwood Austin this year, and my head did explode a bit.
Those seats look like “E-T” from the movie. And I see a little Mitsubishi Starion/Chrysler Conquest in the rear end.
Exactly what I thought
I thought the same thing!!!
i have a 87 conquest (for sale illinois) the tail lights are much more square on the conquests
Yeah.. I was referring more to the rear quarter panel resembling the conquest.
Yeh, they all copied the Alpine!
The gage you were wondering on the left of steering wheel is an Oil level gage. It’s showing engine oil level when key is turned on and engine is not running
Dude that deep synth wave music that you used for the intro on this Renault was spot on!
Hoovie is levelling up way more than daddy doug in the quirky cars game
I think the Cylons drove one of these in a Batllestar Galatics episode
It is very similarly styled to an Rx-7 or 300ZX. But very interesting! Well done Tyler!
Tyler... I have watched you from YVR (Vancouver BC) since your first video and it just dawned on me today that your voice and cadence is becoming more like Jeff Goldblum every day (that's a compliment because despite of his own quirks and features, he's compelling to listen to!). Keep it going!
That cockpit is giving me Renault Fuego flashbacks.
Farrkkkk!
My old man had a Fuego when I was growing up. He absolutely loved it!
Had to get rid of it when a bracket for the clutch cable snapped and took it to a "Specialist" who took it all apart only to realise it was a bracket and then couldn't put it back together again
@@mickeydee3595 , the Fuego was gorgeous from every angle and even the interior was a beautiful place to be in. But it did have some technical issues and the body was very, very rust-prone. Probably only Alfa Romeos were quicker form 0 to 100% rust.
@@FlorinC1984 We are in Australia so rust wasnt an issue for my old man. He absolutely loved his and even to this day he gets somewhat upset when what happened to it is brought up.
What colour was yours? His was white over black bumpers with the yellow foglights haha
He met my mum when he had his fuego and my mum would always know it was him coming down the road to pick her up from the "Yellow lights" haha
Still this Alpine was much bigger, better equipped and faster than Fuego..
@@poplaurentiu4148 Ofcourse it is lol, The fuego was just a run of the mill sports car where as the Alpina was Renualt Alpina giving everything they had.
Like comparing a BMW 318is to a M3
The way the front looks almost reminds me of the XB Interceptor from Mad Max
That’s my car doppelgänger thought too.
Yeah!!! It's like the alter ego of the XB Interceptor!!!!
They're not just metric tires, they are Michelin TRX. You can still get them new but they cost a lot to replace, as I think Michelin only produces a few batches per year. And of course, just like the PAX you had on the Phantom, the rims are specific, so you can't put anything else without replacing them.
Lmao I love how he throws slight shade at Doug 😂
UA-cam getting real comfortable with the double ads.
At the start of the video Fast forward to the end of video. Then hit replay. No ads. Thank me later
If it's free..... then you are the product... remember that
I absolutely LOVE that car. Never seen one in my 43 years on this planet. Just crazy.
I've seen one parked today
HOT DAMN!! I suggested this to you, Hoovie, on the Plymouth Prowler video. It was an excellent vehicle and even today it sounds like the car has stood the test of time.
Literally was just looking at one of these, blue fully restored A310 for almost $60k
Does anyone else hear him saying “VPM”?
Yeah, I hear it too... I thought I was crAZY
Wheeler Dealers with Edd did an Alpine and put a new carb arrangement on it.
Yeah I remember that. A Holley carb like American muscle cars.
That was an a310 movies is the next generation
Yodastien same engine. The same mod would be applicable here.
What they didnt show was the heads had to come off as he warped them. And then Mike somehow blew the Un1 gearbox, so a replacement had to be found.
DJ_PaulTUK how did you find out that info?
brewer is a donkey as soon as that gauge started going up he should have stopped
My friend has a late yellow A610 (with the pop up headlights) and it’s absolutely stunning, so quirky and appealing. Great review
i'd love to see Tyler or Daddy Doug trying out other 80's &90's cars that never made it over there at the time, but may have now come in on the grey market like Citroen BX and XMs, Renault Clio Williams, Sierra Sapphire Cosworth, or even a Metro 6R4
How about the Renault 5 (GT turbo), great car.
Citroen CX Break. This thing looked like a space ship. I had an exchange student from the U.S. as a guest in the early nineties (after the CX production ended) and he was absolutely impressed when he saw one of these.
This car is the result of a passionate night between a foxbody Mustang and a DMC-12.
God, forgot about the Venturi, what an amazing looking car, still looks good even today. Thanks for the link.
Man, I have a book from my childhood that reviews this car .... but have never seen one in person .... you are metal bro! Respect

funny, the owner of this car is BOB lol
Cheaper for Hoovie that way. Plus: extra hot Renault content.
Man, it's actually a beautiful car. That pearl white is in amazing condition.
Wow I'm really impressed you found one in such nice condition. I never really thought I'd see this car on one of the big car channels here on YT, they're so rare and hard to come by.
Yup, the owner of the Renault Alpine Club UK makes them i believe.
Others have fitted the R25 injection and ECU to cure the fuel starvation and make it even quicker.
I have never seen this car before but it’s 80s perfection. It’s beautiful.
Great video, thanks. Always loved the look, didn't know if it was actually any good... this answers it. I want one!
Those windshield wipers...that gas tank location and mystery cap...wow! That's a really unique car. Thanks for show us. :)

Hoovie should find a Citroen CX Turbo to review.
Thanks Hoovie...I caught a glimpse of one of these recently and I thought I'll never get to know the details on the car.
Growing up in a Renault household as a kid i've always liked these.
Wouldnt mind owning one but the thought of how scarce parts and knowledge is of these vehicles in Aus I think its best to just steer clear.
This is the most interesting car i have seen Hoovie review . Fantastic
I'd take the *Alpine* over the Murci...
Now, with the alpine you had my attention. How rare she must be in the US...because in Germany I can't remember the last I saw.
I loved it in my childhood...the sharp outfit, that white Perlmutt paint... and now they are gone...thanks for sharing that outstanding car
Greets from Germany
Good video Tyler, it seems like your content has really slowed down lately? Hope you and your family are all ok safe and well? Can't wait for the next installment of Hoovies Garage 🙂
These were highly regarded for their handling and at times even better than Porsches back then but not being an established well known brand and quite niche it did not sell that highly.
Alpine recently released the new A110 after many years of hiatus, a homage to the old one and there's nothing but praise for it, mainly for it's driving dynamics and just for being different to the norm.
Jep, they stop to make them.
This is my favorite YT chanel , iam french, so really glad to see a french car on here ;)
What a cool car. I love these odd French classics. Style was paramount! Thanks for another great video.
Beautiful! I love the all white look that was so popular in the 80's.
IF THEY EVER DO A BACK TO THE FUTURE 4, THEY NEED TO USE THIS CAR

I love the seats and wheels. As a frenchman following your channel it’s great to see this review. Why didn’t il sell ? The PRV engine was not so good. And everybody was in german cars all ready. It had great reviews when it came out. you should check out the new Alpine if you can
I had one, the A310 pack GT.
