Beautiful work John, thanks for sharing. This video doesn't make me want to buy off you, it makes me want to learn leather-craft and make one for myself. Cheers.
It's nice to know that one of my videos has inspired you to learn leather work, I've only been doing it for a very short time but I find it very relaxing, don't let the mistakes you will make put you off believe me I've made loads but it all part of learning, good luck with it and let me know how you are getting on.
After being highly recommended to me, I have bought a sheath for a Bahco Laplander Saw and John's workmanship is second to none. Very impressed with everything! Thanks John.
Sorry Colin I only just found your comment Google never let me know you left a comment, glad your happy with the sheath and thanks for the support, atb John.
Thanks Robert that's really nice of you to say that, I was watching a vid on youtube with a saddle maker using a head knife made it look so easy so I bought one, not used to it yet but it makes cutting a lot easier, great tool when you learn how to use it properly, really starting to enjoy doing the leather work, learning from all the mistakes I'm making lol.
Thanks for the comment, if you buy a un-welded D ring you can bent it fit it on the belt loop and close it up with some pliers and fit a dangler to it I did it to my Jacklore knife sheath.
Really nice sheath and excellent workmanship. You make it look so easy to make! I just bought a covered sheath with belt loops for my laplander, but can see the advantage of the dangler as ended up just keeping mine in my pack. Live and learn. Thanks for the video. M
I just received the Laplander sheath John made for me. I opened the package and I gotta say I'm speechless. Absolutely superb craftsmanship, beautiful colour, the stitching is superb, the fit is awesome, the price was great and the delivery to Canada was fantastic. Well done Thanks very much, keep up the good work!
Wow John. That came out really nice. Nice, clean, & simple. Can tell you're very meticulous about your work. Nice seeing the whole process of making that sheath.
hi john, one tool that will help you no end, and is invaluable for leather work, and i could not work with out it, is a smooth faces hammer, or cobblers hammer with a convex face, that i always polish to a mirror finish, really helps with tapping your work together for smoothing the pieces out, it never marks the leather. hope that helps mate.
Good idea Lee that rubber mallet I use is too big and heavy I know exactly what you mean about the cobblers hammer will look into getting one, thanks for the advice.
Another fantastic example of outstanding craftsmanship courtesy of UA-cam. Keep up the good work sir! I just wish I had the patience to attempt something like that. haha All the best Ash
only just discovered your channel john, great work! I'm a saddle maker so it comes easy to me but great videos that people can learn from, keep it up....
Thanks for the comment and sub, I thought you did a great job on your sheath too, I only found your channel this morning before I went to work so looking forward to watching some more of your videos. Atb John.
Awesome video John, I am just starting out in leatherwork for myself, and it has given me the confidence, as well as a few ideas, to start my own Laplander sheath. Thank you. All the best, Mark.
a true craftsman, it is far too easy to search the net & find some kind of chinese knock off for almost everything, but one thing that can't be knocked off is true craftsmanship, am hoping to get my own laplander next month, if so also hope i can get one of your sheaths for it, keep up the truly excellent work
Fan blimmin tastic....Great job John. The burishing wheel seemed to work a treat. Your attention to detail was a joy to watch. I can see you getting plenty of orders for this sheath. Speak on skype later. Sandy
Great video John , nice to see quality products like this still being made. If you can give me information how to purchase one of these off yourself, i would be truly grateful. ATB
Nice work John. Relaxing to watch you work (and the music was very appropriate- nice job there too). What size D ring do you prefer? I got some 1" and they seem a little small. About to start this project. I've made a half dozen or so small sheaths for my spoon carving knives, and always thought a Laplander sheath would be nice when I'm using it in the woods.
John I watched you make that beautiful sheath ,and thought I would love one of those.Sandy on his channel said you may be interested in selling one ,if that is the case could I order one for myself .Exquisite looking piece either way. .I would have to pay through paypal as you probably know I live in Adelaide Australia, anyway if you agree let me know how much they are ,look forward to hearing from you all the best Tom Adair
Crazy Diver I have a up-dated Laplander sheath now, if you go to my website you can find out about it, my website address is: www.johnwellings.weebly.com
Bloody hell John you've been hiding your talents, like the use of the head knife you don't see many people use them any longer. The attention to detail that Sandy mentioned is spot on, your workmanship is without doubt first class!
Hi Jezza,if you want to know what tools to buy and how to do leather work your best to watch Ian Atkinson channel he has put up a lot of videos explaining all that you need to know about doing leatherwork much better than I could explain it, check his channel out. atb John.
