    I agree with the clip weights being a pain. I started to open up the clip & tie a knot and it seems to work just fine. Just a simple knot like an overhand and that breaks away easy. Stay Safe & God Bless!!! 🤠👍

    I pour my own dropshot weights, but i put the swivel in the mold backwards....so the pinching part is in the lead, and the the round part is exposed. Then i use a small snap to attach the weight to the line. That way if conditions change to where i want a lighter or heavier weight, its quick and easy to change the weight.

    I open them up a little and tie an overhand knot like you stated.
    Or just open it up free rig style and tie it.
    I don't care about retying the drop shot because it is safe to check your line past the hook.
    I got my butt waxed because i didn't fish the dropshot correctly for smallmouth in Goby infested waters. I'll tell the correct technique if I get enough likes or comments. Here is a backdrop my fish TBF National Qualifier, and it just so happened that the no boater had the exact same setup as me as if he broke into my boat and seen what I had tied on.
    No boater 16 boater 1
    I learned a very valuable lesson 30 minutes into fishing and was too stubborn to adapt and learned a bigger lesson by days end, learn to humble myself.

    I use normal or tungsten bullet weights. I slide on..then use couple bobber stops to hold it on..but can still pull it off if need be

    I use a pair of split ring pliers to open them up. I pretie my rigs using a swivel hook and a dropshot clip that way I can change out weight and if I snag I just brak off and only need 1 knot to tie . I store them in poly bags

    I like the closed eye ones cuzz they can be used for free rigging and free shooting. Can’t use the clipped ones for these techs. Would rather carry one style.

    I’ve never had the clip fail before, but I never trusted it as it was designed. I tie a single overhand knot on the last 1/2 inch of line and put the weight above it. I also put a little crimp on the line above the weight to compromise the leader.

      That’s what I’ve always done as well.

    Totally agree. I was losing more clip weights casting than I was snagging. I figured I must be doing something wrong. I’ve been using the standard cylinders all the way up to an ounce depending on the current. I try to stay as light as possible.

    I'm cheap, I use the old water gremlin tear drops... I've slung off too many of those clip ones

      I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that!

    I'm a senior bank fisherman and fish the drop shot very often. I never use the pinch style weights. They break the line. Also, I use 4 lb test for the sinker line and 6 or 8 lb test fluro on the reel. This way I normally only lose the sinker when hung up.

    I’m a big time drop shot guy. I use the clip weights and I lose some occasionally but it seems fair enough. Since with a drop shot you’re probably using a braid to fluoro leader, losing weight is better than losing a foot or two of your leader. I won a tourney yesterday on a drop shot. I lost two weights all day. One I had to break off so I lost the bait and hook too. Not the fault of the weight. I set the hook in a brush pile and got the hook buried into something that wasn’t a bass. lol.

  • @larryppe

    Forgot to mention. I use spin shot hooks which have a separate line to the weight.

    I have never lost a weight since I started using the long cylinder style, and I exclusively use the clip style even with tungsten even though it's more expensive than the hook. But are you tying a knot then sticking it in the clip.

    • @SonarFishing
      @SonarFishing  14 днів тому

      Yes sir, when I use the clip style I always tie a knot before I slide the line in the clip. If you don’t have an issue with them there’s no reason to change. In my case, I have had bad experiences with them so I have made the switch.

    I like the clip. They are fast, and honestly I don't really lose all that many of them.

    • @SonarFishing
      @SonarFishing  14 днів тому

      As long as you like them you should definitely stick with them!

      @@SonarFishing I have buddies that absolutely hate them lol. Just a personal preference deal! I will say sometimes they aren't snug enough from the factory and need to squeeze it tighter with a pair of pliers.
