- This song parody will reinforce some concepts regarding "solutions" in science. It distinguishes "solute" from "solvent" and emphasizes some of the characteristics of a solution and aqueous solutions. It is sung to the tune of "Don't Stop Believing" recorded and performed by Journey ( and a selection in the TV hit, "Glee".) The songwriters are Neal Schon, Jonathan Cain, and Steve Perry.

1) A solution is a type of mixture, that is homo- gen-eous.
It means that it's the same throughout, the same through-out.
It is the best mixed mixture, of two or more sub-stan-ces.
When one of the components is wa-ter, it's a-que-ous.
The major por-tion of the solu-tion, the thing that does the dissolving,
It bears a special name for its job, it is called the sol-vent.
The other part of the solu-tion, is the thing that gets dissolved.

I used to give extra credit for my students when they came in to sing the song by heart. They could bring another student along for support to sing with them. I would play the video in the background and watched that they were singing the words. I used to enjoy seeing the smiles on their faces when they accomplished it - definitely a high five time!

It was the easiest version to compose the lyrics for and that version was very popular at the time. Thanks for your comment. My students even liked singing the "da, da, da" part of the song when we sang it in class.

This song is really nostalgic for me now. I remember listening to it with my friends back in 2016 when we were in 6th grade. Doesn’t seem like it was that long ago and I may not have appreciated it as much until it was too late, but those were some of the happiest times I’ve had. Thanks for this awesome song haha.

In 5th grade my teacher showed us this and during our test everybody started singing it to remember which was the solvent and which was solute. Without this song most of us would have failed that test.

My teacher showed this to my class sooo long ago! Was really helful because we're Spanish but had that one class in English, so this was a nice way of getting all those weird words in our heads. Brings back so many memories! I even have it saved on my music playlist hahah
