Well, the trailer makes it look 100 times better than the first pictures they released a few days ago.
The production value looks good. I think it will come down to the actors. Can the actors make the viewers believe in the characters they are portraying?

My thoughts EXACTLY. I'm terrified they might mess this up, yet also excited for if they do it right. The potential for this show is beyond amazing as all us book readers know and I sincerely hope they stick to the books content and let the story unfold as it was written.

All I know for certain is that I’m uncertain about this. The Eye of the World is one of the greatest books I have ever experienced, and because i have such a deep appreciation for it, it may be impossible for a television series to get it just right. There’s just so many things that could go wrong with it. I am incredibly cynical regarding adaptations of such beloved books. Fingers crossed, I guess!

I'm getting in on this thread. I'm one of the writers from the season 1 room. Having loved these books most of my life, I can honestly say that Rafe (the show runner and head writer) has done an incredible job bringing this to screen. I shall enjoy watching this series in the stedding that is my hometown.

@@nathanfrazier8525 RJ Wrote it in the 1980s and published in 1990 when Sanderson was 15. Its such an Iconic poetic line though; up there with one ring to rule them all. Sanderson's greatest influence was RJ... and the wheel of time. prepare to be overwhelmed :D

I'm not sure of its first usage, but its most impactful use was in the Imperial Rescript to Soldiers and Sailors, issued in 1882. It's often considered one of the defining ideas underlying the Showa-era construction of Bushido.

I think the book series is one of the best fantasy novels there is. Reading it for the first time when I was 12 years old in the 90s. I find it quiet embarassing not even mentioning Robert Jordan's name in the Teaser!!! A Shame! 🤷♂️
I agree! I believe that he passed away before the last novel and his wife had something to do with finding an author who had the closest style of writing to finish the series. It was HONESTLY EPIC!! I'm SO GLAD they FINALLY did this!!!
@@rinab4405 Brandon Sanderson was entrusted by Robert Jordan and then his wife to finish the books. He was terminally ill so was able to plan it out.

@@CaptC4t Late in his life RJ added a new prologue to one of the later editions of The Eye Of The World showing Egwene and Nynaeve ~3 years before the events of the story. It's likely a scene from that. Chapter is called Ravens. It's not in versions of TEOTW from before about 2003 and not in all of the ones from after either.

Too tall, too old-looking, and wrong eye color. Dark hair looks very bad on her and makes her look older. Great actress in general but poor casting. The sea of actresses to choose from is so vast, I don't know how they think she is the perfect fit. Same goes for the rest of the cast.

I wouldn't go so far as perfect, but with what is currently feasible, Rosamund is one of those, if not the best actress to play her.

Finally decided to start the series and just finished book 1. Came back to re-watch the trailer and it made me appreciate it so much more. Highly recommend people to read the first book, time allowing, before they watch the show.

Doing this now with my girlfriend! I've read it all before but this is her first time, so excited for this and it's great having someone else to talk to about it! Everyone else had been scared off by how long it was before, this is the first I've managed to convince someone to read it with me.
Enjoy my friend. As a teenager I used to re read every book in the whole series each time a new one was released, I guess I read the whole series about 6 times in the end. In fact - pro tip. I Listened to the same album on repeat always while reading each fantasy series. Then FOR YEARS , when you hear that music and you close your eyes you just go there. This was Talking Heads ' Stop Making Sense' .My god the power of it all.
actually that might have been a bad thing. since the show has very little to do with the book. The dragon was never considered a hyrda. Morraine went to the two rivers because of clues but didnt know what she would find their. plus all of the other little things they got wrong and all the things they added that screws up later seasons/books. just yeah. Books are great but they could have done it correctly but choose not too
@@mikebannwart2913 Yeah, I was really disappointed with all the changes they made once I started watching it. Couldn't even finish the series. I understand they want to get to the action right away, but so many of their changes left plot holes and left non-book readers confused as to what was going on.

Some friends and I met Robert Jordan at a book signing for Winter's Heart - we hung back at the end of the line so we could talk with him for a few minutes. What a guy. Never thought this would come into existence, it dusts off some really old feels.

@@namratharao465 What I remember most was this: when we asked him how he was he replied "fair to middlin'" which is an old saying my friend who was with us had said his whole life. We freaked out and he thought that was great. You had to buy a copy of Winter's Heart for him to sign, but people brought their favorite old big hardcovers and he happily signed everything.

Funny that I got here in this trailer, as just now, I finished watching the movie FIRST MAN, about how Lenn flew to the moon in the belly of an eagle made of fire
The score in this trailer is phenomenal! I saw a few inconsistencies too, but I still tell everyone to read (or honestly listen to it on Audible, that’s the best since the narrators really nail the characters personalities) first. Unless each episode is 3 hours long and there are 13 seasons, they will still fall well short of the breathtaking scope and depth of the story.
Well, the story could use a good cutting down, so that might be a good thing.

Robert Jordan's wheel of time is one of my all time favorite fantasy novels and honestly from what I can tell from the trailer they've really captured the look and vibe that books had! Moirane looks awesome and michael mcelhatton is definitely a welcomed addition to the cast

@@martineshamzin7535 Its not possible to tell the story with Egwene being the dragon. The only change thats going to be possible is having Nynaeve and Rand as a "joined" dragon because thats basically what they are (all of Rands greatest feats is done with Nynaeves help). Although I really hope they don't do that, it would lesser Nynaeves part of the story if she's "the chosen one" and forced by fate.
@@odin6162 Siuan mentioned something about a five-headed dragon of legend in the show, and though they were not talking about THE Dragon, I have a feeling they’re alluding to the Emond’s Field Five all being the Dragon Reborn (like his soul split into all five of them, despite Nynaeve being years older than them).

Wow. I've been listening to this series on audible and I'm in the eighth book. I am obsessed. I just finished book 7 and I thought what the hell I'll see if there's any talk of a series coming out in the next couple of years or maybe they'll at least be talking to the author. I do a search and a goddamn series is going to drop in like two months. This is just fantastic.

One of my favorite openings to a (fantasy at least) book basically ever. I only ever got through about the 4th or 5th book but it was fantastic and I'm excited to see the series.
The two scenes I'm looking forward to, and am hoping they include; Moraine's 'Weep, weep for Manetheren' story and Nynaeve leaving Lan as far from Tarwin's Gap as possible, forcing him to trudge (and recruit) the length of the Borderlands. Tai'shar Malkier!
I hope we get so far. Goddamn, I loved Nynaeve the entire series, but what she did to/for Lan when sending him that way....I have never loved her more, and the scene with her rallying the Malkieri in the inn and sending messages....Nynaeve is best gal.
@@tzimiable I didn't love her at first, what with all the braid-tugging and the nannying of the Two Rivers kids. Her initial interactions with Lan almost had me tugging my braid, and I don't have one! She grew on me, though. The scene in the inn is one of the best in the whole series, and I can't get through it with dry eyes.
@@joemacri5588 Nynaeve does come off as annoying and pushy (especially in the beginning), but i always found her endearing cause she clearly cared so much for her people and would have done everything for them. And she just gets better and better.
Egwene on the other hand...she fell too much into the Aes Sedai ways, i started finding her insufferable at times.

I'd love to hear this in Graphic Audio format. Have been listening to Brandon Sandersons books in such format and they're so much better than, just one voice.

@@gsofficial To say that about Sanders when WoT is literally mind-numbingly repetitive and uneventful internal second guessing the book series and they at least managed to make half a decent number of seasons of SoIaF/GoT which is still far more complicated than the Cosmere despite only officially being one world (despite being based on the 1000 worlds series).
Though yes making sure that actors stay interested and locked up in contract for years just waiting to get more important narrative roles in later book series are a problem.

Not sure about the trailer, the SFX look pretty cheap and they seem to be focusing more on thr Source/magic a lot here, which is never a good sign. WoT book series should be more LOTR level adaption. Instead this looks more like a Witcher level adaption. Which is most definitely _not_ a compliment, BTW.

Also that's not a spoiler that affects the story dude.. its a quote of a quote in the books.. it doesn't give away anything at all... many of us long time fans use it about Robert Jordan himself. And all of us will be new viewers as its an adaptation of the books, Rafer has often said with out hurting the story they've had to make some changes to get it all in.
For those who think its too bright, I think as the story progresses and things happen it will become darker, visually and in tone as well.

I want anyone out there coming into this without any knowledge of the books to watch this trailer and try and guess who the main protagonist is. I guarantee they'll answer incorrectly.
@Turtle To be fair, the books certainly focus a lot on Moiraine a lot in the first book as well, but even then it's clear she's not the protagonist.
As for Egwene, hopefully they write her better in the show than in the books. Like so many, (including Rand tbh) she starts out likeable then becomes really annoying to the point of wanting to skip her chapters all together. Nynaeve is probably the most infamous for this, except she doesn't even start out likeable, lol.
I've heard this changes for most characters once Brandon Sanderson takes over, but I'm still slogging through Crossroads of Twilight and Perrin's agonizingly slow chapters at the moment, so I wouldn't know.
To be fair a lot of the written work DOES revolve around Moiraine and her interpretations and actions especially early on.
@@bradleyharper7073 I agree, but even then she's clearly not the protagonist. A fan favorite to be sure, but this trailer doesn't even hint that it's ultimately a story about Rand. I think he only appears in it for a total of like 3 seconds, and I don't believe he gets a single line. So it's kind of false advertising unless they completely change the story to meet [current year] standards of storytelling. But that's just my opinion. I hope it will be good, but this trailer certainly has me wondering if they're trying to be controversial for the free marketing.
@@usnairframer it’s the opposite for Nyn. She starts out unlikable but becomes one of the best perspectives later. IMO Rand starts neutral and ends up with amazing character progression. Perrin is just ok all the way through. Mat is just fantastic.
Egwene is probably the worst character just based on the whole…well if you know you know. Her whole arc just feels contrived imo
@@usnairframer Dunno what books you're reading ... Egwene by the end is my fav character BY FAR. Also, there's hardly any sections of the books (except A New Spring) that are from Moiraine's point of view... it's mostly the Two Rivers gang!

I'm thinking they may have squashed some of the false dragon story lines, bringing in elements from other false dragons, like his followers trying to rescue him etc...

I followed this pretty closely. They hired a “super fan” of the series to ensure they stayed as close as possible to the story. Some things in books don’t translate to the screen well. But, here’s hoping
I think it's very unlikely that a streaming series ever makes it to 12 seasons. That's rare even for syndicated shows. Streaming shows don't capture the zeitgeist the same way that network shows can, so 4 or 5 is probably what we'll get if we're lucky. Expect DEEP cuts.

We have seen it already in a leaked picture. It looks different then you would take frome the books, but it makes sense over all. There are a couple of changes, especially to Thom. Don't be disappointed - the reasoning is solid and I am looking forward to his adaption and the actors work.

I started writing down all the things from game of thrones that were directly taken from this series. I there's about 30 things- like game of thrones is called the game of houses here. I had no idea they were making a show. Exciting. George R.R said he was influenced by wheel of time more than anyone.
Yeh, Martin and Jordan were good friends but Jordan, generally speaking, is considered more of a legend, at this point, in the fantasy writing community.
