According to Hollywood, there was no sun until the late 17th century.
It's all about the photography! But being Scott, you can bet the sun will come out for some beautiful backlight - probably around Jodie Comer!
The sun wasn't invented until 11902, when Richard Sun had this idea...
This movie was one of the best I have seen in a long time. The actress who played Marguerite did a phenomenal job. The chemistry between the actors made everything feel so real. Wonderful wonderful movie
Even though I didn't see the trailer before watching it, I agree. A movie I wouldn't have thought would scratch my drama itch. I thought it would be an epic with more focus on battles, kinda like Outlaw King, but wasn't disappointed with the approach to this story. It was an interesting one!
Actually kinda cool to see a movie where the stakes aren't the future of humanity or something of the sort.
I read you as skates being the future of mankind. Which now I want a movie with this premise.

Matt Damon, Adam Driver and Ben Affleck are supporting actors for Jodie Comer?! Girl is on fire
matt damon and adam driver have higher billing positions than her so no, probably not
@@anccorv Higher billing just means you're a bigger star, not that your part is bigger
Great story, gorgeous photography and costumes, masterful direction and of course, superb acting. People praise mostly Comer and Driver's performances (no doubt they are great in the film) but I was really blown away by Matt's performance playing a grim, rough, furious, almost barbaric character, very unlike his personality and most of the roles he has been playing throughout his career. Ben Affleck does also a fantastic job. The truth is, the whole cast of this movie is top notch. A very powerful film.
Good Will Jousting
Jodie's casting is the only one that makes sense. Adam Driver at least tried to sound less American. When it comes to period films, any European accent works, just not American. Matt and Ben simply don't sound the part. Uninspired casting on Ridley's part, for shame, especially when there are so many talented Scandanvian actors out there. See the great Kim Bodnia!

Fun fact: Ridley Scott’s first film was called “The Duelists”
Not that he should retire, but it would be one hell of a full career circle.
And happening in France as well. Good'ol days when you could fence at your bothering neighboor.
It disappoints me that The Duelists looks so accurate but in this film we get some weird random helmet missing a half of the faceplate.
@@potatokilr7789 Ridley said that was intentional as he wanted the audience to recognize who was who in the fight. Of course, the audience would know anyway if you made each helmet distinct enough.
@@youbian I feel like he could have done something else to approach this issue. For example, we see in the trailer that the helmet visor gets lifted during part of the fight. Why not just have it up for the emotional parts and put it down for the most intense action (such as the lance fight)? Doing so with a full visor would not only be practical, but realistic and historical, as many fully-armored knights/soldiers would lift their visors during one-on-one fights for better visibility, only lowering their visors when taking arrow fire or facing high-level threats.
It could also be argued that showing the face is not necessary. There are plenty of characters who convey emotion even without showing their faces (most of the time). Some examples of such characters can be found in acclaimed films and video games such as Star Wars (Darth Vader, Din Djaren/The Mandalorian), Halo (Master Chief, Noble Six, Emile, Rookie) etc. Adam Driver also played a role in Star Wars which involved his face being covered for half of the film.
After seeing this, I’m positive that Adam Driver could play Rasputin for a Russian Revolution film.

Definitely not marketed well enough by Fox. In all my theater outings, I have noticed it’s trailer constantly playing before art house films and not bigger budget ones. I think it would have really benefited from marketing to a more main stream crowd, because it is a Ridley Scott epic and that is marketable to that crowd. At the same time, fox made a mistake putting it out on October 15, one week after venom and one week before dune. This should’ve honestly come out in mid September, that was a quieter release slot and would have not given it existing and looming competition. Medieval period pieces like this are a little harder to sell the audiences these days, so we should have definitely come out around a time where there wasn’t too much competition surrounding it

last battle was phenomenal, this is what you get when you invest in fight choreography... also cast and writing is 10/10. we really lack medieval era movies, and this was such a treat
matt damon facing the Notre Dame de Paris cathedral under construction, in the shape of an H ... for Hypocrisy ? Stunning cinematography all the way.
@@NostalgicMem0ries it's a short scene after the duel, we can see the building of Notre Dame de Paris. A silent scene without any dialogue.
@@georgesabitbol9437 Are you mad at him about the bitcoin ad or the Weinstein stuff?
Not gonna lie, I kinda miss seeing movies like this. Historical movie is one of my favourite movie genre. Looking forward to this......
Don't worry, I'm sure more historical movies are being made and have been made, aside from the Last Duel. You'll be fine.
100 times agree 👍
You're not alone, I also miss these kinds of movies.
