I hate UA-camrs that try to teach this stuff because they’re annoying and always have a fakeness to them but I watch your stuff because you seem like you genuinely want to help
I appreciate you for commenting! What are some other tutorials/videos that could help you achieve that goal? Are their any plugins or effects you’re looking for more knowledge in?
1 question bro im so lost and i really want to learn how to mix and master is there any advices u could give someone like me who is really starting with music production,, i really want this bro
I had to watch the whole thing, man! I love your passion, how you nod and bob your head and are so into the music, like you can feel it. That third EQ trick really made everything sound so much clearer, so that gets my vote. And this is 2 years old, but I've just started getting into music, and am using Cubase, so if you haven't already, I'd love to see you work in that program. Well done making it WAY past 500 likes on the video!
Loved that. Really helped out with a vocal house track I've just made. The vocals were a bit drowned by the piano stack. I know you do a lot of videos around RnB sounds. Would you perhaps do a video about vocal mixing in house or tech?
i agree! i myself want to start doing music in house and techno and dubstep so if you can create mixing for vocals, as well as vocal presets and mastering chains for the house, techno and dubstep that would be goated!
The clarity trick around 1.7k is my favourite also I love using logic pro x like u , I’ve tried pro tools, ableton in the past and i also like them but logic is really close to my heart.
i def like the tip on EQ automation of the instrumentals high freqs, and cutting that low end a lil for the extra control. I use FL Stu and an MPC One, and ive been workin on getting better at surfing for those rough cutting boxy parts to polish up and clean tracks up. been a game changer. im being hit up for paid work more, so my advice to others out there who wanna do this stuff is keep going for it, and learn something from this vid! subscribe and like the stuff too, this cat deserves it 😎💯
@@Baywood that fab filter one looks easy to use and dope and has the headphone so you can actually hear the direct harsh frequencies. Ima look into how to get that but sweet thank you!
I noticed in your vocal example the singer is subtle and the dynamic range of the voice is pretty low. Will your settings recommendation work on a more emotive vocal where the range in volume and key is more extreme as in the rock and blues genres?
You will want to test and listen to how it sounds. If the goal is to compress and retain those dynamics then parallel compression is a good option. However if the vocal just needs a bit of tightening up, slight compression can work!
Jordan! Love the vids man. Side note though; Are those HS8’s? The Yamaha manual says to never lay them on their sides, that can cause some phasing issues, just a heads up! Have u noticed any difference ever since turning them side ways? Mixing wise
I am a voice /audio typist - meetings, hearings, etc. nowadays ppl record via android phones in courtrooms - with disastrous results for me as voices are in the far background. Or overall voices are not crisp / clear / too much bass / room noises (fan / aircons / documentation / ppl moving around, etc.) - I use transcription specific headphones (C-Media) and Express Scribe is only but one program. Dell laptop with no enhancements as to sound program or such. HOW DO I GET THE VOICES CLEARER? or 'pull' voices from the back to the front? or get the voices crisper (less bass)? have tried audacity and such type of programs, but it takes waay too long and still struggle. i see system does not have an equiliser like previous years. (Windows 10) i am not a techie person - 'n grandma of 64 but have been doing this work for past 34 years. the cassette recorded cases we had years ago, is starting to shine more brialliant the more 'technically advanced' ppl are becoming PLEASE .. thank you
Hey Baywood i recently started using fab filter eq and compressor and i have to say they’re very good for mixing vocals . What are your thoughts on those plugins?
Cool. Perfect quality video. Now my problem is that I can’t hear high frequencies above 7 kHz anymore. Does that mean I won‘t be able to do good mixes anymore? I mean I could not or hardly hear any sound changes when you applied the automation at the end of the video.
no it does not! if you spend enought time in your daw, you can make music without hearing a single thing the whole time. Just by relying on EQ's and spectrums.
Now I'm lost. All youtube videos I've seen says TO CUT not TO ADD on EQ. But yours is different. Added low and mid frequency. Does this applies to live vocals?
@@Baywood forgot to ask you do a waves rack preset with effects on it please I try to download them free presets but it it still hasent come through shame
how do you make bedroom vocals sound musical mine sound good on headphones but on speakers i can here my voice is bare and unprocessed. sounds like a voice memo rather than something musical
Thanks again for the knowledge. I use logic as well. I tried studio one but found myself back to logic. If you do a comp video I think fabfilter’s compressor would be best. I struggled with comp until FF. I think it’s the GUI for me. Also, I’ve purchased some full classes from other YT pages. I think you should put together a class your subscribers can buy. I’m curious how you would teach us start to finish mixing to a 2track. I would be one of the first to buy. Thanks again 💪🏾
Yea 100% I like to overdue it so people can actually hear what it is in order to easier learn it, but I agree. I would tone it down a bit… and automation is one of my favorites to do 🔥 really adds character. Will prolly do a whole video about this
Awesome ved man! I noticed that the root note of the vocals were cut out by the high pass filter (the first big bump on the eq from left to right). Any reason for removing it?

I love them man, some of my favorite plugins to use honestly, Especially the EQ!
Not every voice is the same that’s how you u eq we eq different 🙂↔️
Yes that’s true but realistically similar EQ moves will be made on most vocals unless the vocal is poorly recorded

Do I have to buy the fob filter ? Or is that a stock plugin ?
Can I use the track main ( eq ) ?

how do you do a 1 track instrumental and keep the effects on it?
what do you mean?

@@Baywood i use waves plugins
Fabfilers and valhalla
Now I'm lost. All youtube videos I've seen says TO CUT not TO ADD on EQ. But yours is different. Added low and mid frequency. Does this applies to live vocals?
It depends on how the vocal sounds . An EQ can boost and cut frequencies and you would use it according to what you are hearing
Baywood when you going drop that new plugin the one i was i talking about to you on email the secret source😀
It's almost done :)
@@Baywood forgot to ask you do a waves rack preset with effects on it please I try to download them free presets but it it still hasent come through shame
Would this trick only apply to music vocals or can it apply to narrations? I use Reaper.
Yes it can minus effects like reverb and delay. Simple EQ and comp is all you’d need, maybe noise gate
@@Baywood cool ty. I was able to use the chart and better my narration audio, then afterwards had to lower the volume for vocals to get rid of echo.

I can't afford this plugin can I use any thing else for eq? or fab filter pro q1 or 2 , because its saying qp3 is like 200$

Very good 🎉
Whats the name of this plug in eq and is it better than the stock eq from logic?
fab filter pro q 3, I would say it is better due to the dynamic possibilties. however, stock logic EQ is so good
how do you make bedroom vocals sound musical mine sound good on headphones but on speakers i can here my voice is bare and unprocessed. sounds like a voice memo rather than something musical
Mix your vocals using speakers. Most headphones are unrealistic representations of audio because they have built in EQs
