Right on the edge of being a grander. I'm so glad this was not a harvested specimen, and more and more of my fellow anglers are tagging and releasing these fish. I just wish she was in all her color glory here
no where near of being a grander. I've caught a grander black and a few blues over 700lbs and that fish looks to be around 750lbs. Tag and release is the way to go, especially with the satelite tags not just rolled up paper
The natural history museum is incredible. I went a few years ago and i was in awe. You need to spend a whole day in there to appreciate everything because there is so much
Wait extinct and extant? I actually laughed out loud 🤣 I had no clue extant was a word until now. Wow, I need to go back to school. I actually thought it was maybe spelled extanct 😂
It is an amazing specimen and a great feat of preservation, but, sadly, so less shining and beautiful than a live marlin. It does however give a glimpse of how large and powerful these fish truly are in life. Great job.
OMG! I love your mueseum! It has been a huge part of my life and I love it! Everyone who can't get there, try to go to both the science mueseum and the natural history. Last time I went Dippy (that's the affectionate name for the diplodocus dinosaur) was on tour. I really advise going.
It was washed up in Wales. It is pale because it's not always very warm there. Typical Marlin: poorly packing for foreign holidays. Now the kangaroo... A whole bunch of travel necessities in that pouch of her's.
“It’s fragile in certain parts of the body” cut to bondage mummy marlin being moved at the speed of a drugged sloth. I think “fragile” is an understatement

Interestingly, the swordfish isn't in the same family as other sailfish and marlins, but they're called 'billfish' as a group (because of their faces). They aren't actually even endangered as far as I know! They're the national fish of my country, the Bahamas, but you probably aren't very likely to see in person one unless you go out fishing in more open waters.
Wet prepped specimens are actually a very important part of a natural history museum's research collection, providing a preserved tissue and muscular specimen that a drawing or skeleton can't compare to. A specimen such as this may be analysed in the future to find out what toxins the animal was exposed to when it died to indicate the quality of the ocean, or as a comparative specimen for a new species or to show how a species changes over time. It is likely this specimen will remain preserved in the collection for over 100 years!
Forget the blue marlin - that museum looks like my version of heaven. It is beautiful.
Archie, you ain't kidding.

A museum is basically a bunch of dead things displayed in a way that we don’t get disgusted
So is a living body.
I read your comment and said /woah/ then I read the other comment *double woah*
@@ursulageorgeson7086 looks like you missed the keyword dead
Wrong. A museum is a place to store disgusting things so its normal when you see disgusting things there.
@@lewisarcher3916 hundreds of thousands of cells die in our bodies every second so no, they did not miss the key word

dbenson31 now its being displayed in a museum. Such a sad creature
its dead
It died due to natural causes...
ho knowes howe long it was dead before the found it on the beach and a healthy wouldn't die like that
I think its awesome. Its a sign of respect. Look at this powerful creature, understand it.
That museum looks so goddamn gorgeous.

I would love to visit the museum when the pandemic is over.
I've been their and have seen the marlin in person. It looks awesome!

I didn't know glycerol was safer than Isopropyl alcohol I'll keep that in Mind.
Silver Turtle Studios I don’t know how alcohol can be unsafe anyway (?)
Gerardo Salas I think the alcohol will actually change the colour of the specimen
BTSoutcast has me stressed oh interesting. Didn’t think of that, hehe
alcohol will burn like crazy/explode if heated
im guessing its not as much of a fire hazard
Mud to water story.
He traveled far to be on the street of mud, and finally became a model or should I say super marlin!

that fish is pale though, better be preserved when it's still in it's original colour
Well you'll need to kill a live one to get a better specimen.

So what happens to the gases trapped in the body once the glycerol diffuses? Does it just slowly blubb out?
