I just want to say thank you guys so much for all your support and being amazing! Hope you enjoy the video. I for sure enjoyed reacting to this A TON! 😍❤
On the subject of good and evil: Matt Colville has a very good video on the matter. It's related to dnd but it is also a good psychological video. Who knew games can teach us about morality and the complexity of the human condition😁what's evil, what's good, what benevolent, what's malevolent. If a God kills someone you love is it evil or is it preventing evil? Are you evil for fighting the "good" God or are you "good" for fighting that same God because they have killed?
I have been a 40K UBER-GEEK since '89. There is so much lore that you'd need to take a couple of years off work & parenting just to get a rough grasp on most of it. You asked if there was a movie or anything concerning Warp travel. UBER-GEEK fun fact. Watch the film, Event Horizon. This was originally written to be the story of how Warp travel technology came into being. The reason it isn't an official Games Workshop film is that GW wouldn't be able to hold on to the rights to the film. So wouldn't properly endorse it. So the script was tweaked just a little, & boom. The film Event Horizon. That is a VERY VAGUE interpretation of what happens when Warp travel goes wrong. Great reaction & much love to everyone from here in the UK
& don't worry. EVERY faction/group of beings in 40K get ripped on & made fun of. EG. The Space Marine poster boys, the Ultra Marines, are nicknamed, Smurfs cause they're always depicted as the super moral good guys. Their Primarch has the nickname (previously held by the Chapter Master) is, Papa Smurf. It's half the fun of the 40K community. & the lore updates ALL the time. tweaks here & there. Some fleshing out of races now & again. Maybe even a who new rebrand for an old race that vanished in early editions of the game, but are now back. New stuff needs some backstory to it.
30:05 Yeah, of course the 40K universe came out of minds in the real world, but from what I have heard, 40K was originally created as a reaction to or satire of conservative Britain under Margaret Thatcher through the 80's...Given the militarism of the Cold War period, I can see how 40K in it's inception would be satirizing that sort of militaristic, jingoistic, and zealous attitude...For with a million worlds, the sun never sets on the Imperium of Man, does it?
@@42Mrgreenman the number of historical references in 40K are IMMENSE! As well as the topics you mention, there is also a Very heavy influence from the, Dune stories. They took ideas & concepts from everywhere & blended it in to this (in my eyes) Materpiece of lore for a whole galaxy
1:17:30 orks actually have their own gods, Gork and Mork. Gork is Brutal yet Cunning and Mork is Cunning yet Brutal, because of the amount of Orks and their connection to the warp Gork and Mork exist in the warp. There is an Ork named Tuska who stays in the realm of Khorne (whilst still alive) and endlessly fights Khorne Daemons for fun
WHAT, that is so cool! I feel like there is like hundreds of thousands of great facts about Warhammer. One more wild and crazy than the other. I can imagine Tuska just having the time of his life banging down demons for fun.
@@OleHerland you should watch his Every space marine legion explained video next, he gives a description of all 18 legions, the primarchs and the Tabletop
'Ear Bruce. Ain't Gork & Mork da uver way round? Mork brutal yet cunnin', yet Gork iz cunnin' but brutal? Me bloody Boss can neva 'member 🤣 You have to LOVE the Orks
@@OleHerland oh Tuska is having a BRILLIANT time. He actually impressed Khorne himself. So Khorne has set aside a WORLD in the warp that is for, Tuska & his boyz. This planet is constantly invaded so Tuska & the ladz have a constant fight. But that isn't all the praise Khorne shows him. He resurrects Tuska & his ladz EVERY time they all die. Doesn't take their souls to munch on. RESURRECTS THEM FOR ENTERTAINMENT!!! 🤣
19:10 A big thing that Bricky either forgets or never really got, is that with Nurgle, it is not just death but cycles of death and rebirth, so Papa Nurgle is also Mother Nature.
@@OleHerland all the chaos gods have a "good" aspect to them. tzeentch is about wisdom, intelect and knowlege. slanesh is about art and dedication. khorn is about honour and strenght.
No, the Gods of Chaos can't leave their realms at all. They can sometimes interact with some people that are crazy enough to go in the realms of CHaos in the warp, and in their own palace, they interacted with other gods (Nurgle keep one Eldar goddess hostage in his palace), but they never fight themselves. However, they have mini versions of themselves that contain a tiny part of their sould and will fight for them ^^
They can "push" mortals to do their bidding, in a more or less subtle way, and enough horrors perpetrated in their name can allow them to influence reality with their specialty. Like Slaanesh would trigger planet-wide drug orgies, Khorne would inflict massive murderous rage on everything alive in a world, etc... You may say that praying to them ACTUALLY works :D
@@clementcate4730 Yeah, but the question was, can Khorne t himself from his throne and go fight space marines. The answer is no, he can't. They have all sorts of ways to interact with the world, but they can't leave the chaos realms physically ^^
There is a rare time when the gods "come" to there followers Like a Feeling (Like Moses "seeing" god) And in one instant Korn came to one Guy and the weapon Korn Had was i think ( Not Sure ) the size of a Planet ( or solar system) again im Not Sure
33:00 yes. Pretty much until like 20K people didn’t even know about Deamons. That’s around the time the first human psykers appeared. To add to that, the original 3 were created because of the horrors of the War in Heaven. The realm of chaos is just a part of the Warp, but these atrocities bloated it to a breaking point. 1:00:35 Cegorach is actually the only deity in 40K I’d call benevolent. He literally fights/gambles with Slaanesh over Harlequin souls and his whole goal is to defeat it.
- Worshipping Nurgle is always the correct choice. Papa Nurgle will love you for who you are, regardless of your gender, sexual identity, race, etc. He can take away your pain so you don't have to suffer. He's the most progressive of all the Chaos gods and it beats whatever the other gods has going for their acolytes. The enemy in Warhammer 40K: Darktide are Nurgle-corrupted, although I prefer "persuaded" than "corrupted". - Bricky is sometimes inaccurate or sometimes generalizes certain lore parts because he doesn't want to explain the complexities of the lore to newcomers. So take some with a grain of salt. His podcast, Adeptus Ridiculous, does explain those topics slightly more in-depth. - Bricky describing to you what the Dark Eldar would to you is the most normal thing they'll do. They can do worse, and they have done worse. - So, the Starcraft being a 40K game isn't actually true. It was Warcraft instead. Warhammer consists of two versions, each with their lore and some interconnected parts here and there, 40K and Fantasy. Back then, Blizzard wasn't the major game powerhouse it was known today, it was a small "indie" studio at the time. GW (Games Workshop, the owners of the Warhammer IP) contracted them to make a game based on Warhammer Fantasy, which is good as the original members/devs were huge fans of Warhammer. Somewhere along the development process, GW dropped everything and abandoned them for some dumbass reason. This prompted the devs to scrounge up the remains and built their own game, known as Warcraft. Starcraft was developed after, with heavy inspirations from 40K. - Tyranids are the main reason why Fidus Kryptman kept nuking planets. Their adaptation is so fast that the moment a few of them die in harsh conditions, they will develop and create new bugs that are resistant to these harsh conditions. The bugs don't actually have a name or are referred to as "Tyranids". They are named such by the Imperium after making the first contact with an invading force on an ocean planet named "Tyran". While they are not from the Milky Way galaxy, it is theorized they had come to the galaxy millennia before and some species of bug-like xenos and bugs have descended from them. - Genestealer Cults are very complicated and unique so to say. They usually infect miners or people who live in the lower sections of whatever respective hive city. And they don't turn immediately btw. It takes time and generations to cultivate a massive following, resulting in a massive revolt (revolts are common in the Imperium, even without these cults, usually because the citizens aren't satisfied with their current conditions. In fact, some members of cult are regular Imperium people who hate the government). When the revolt is successful, they send out a signal to invite their tyranid overlords and once they arrive, they suicide themselves to serve as biomass. The worst part is that their brainwashing ends when they're about to die. Whoops. - Orks are basically sentient mushrooms. Killing them will spread spores and those spores will eventually grow into another ork down the line. Your saving grace is that they're never united as an entire species as infighting is a common thing among them, ranging from superiority issues to petty squabbles. In fact, the plot of the game Shootas, Blood, and Teef is centered around a revenge story about an ork's hair squig (Orks are bald, so the hair you see on them comes from a subspecies of multi-faceted gremlin creatures called squigs) that was stolen by a rival ork because he got jealous. The "power of imagination" is said to be a latent psyker ability that they aren't aware of, left over from their prior evolutionary predecessors. There are many stories of their shenanigans, including one who went back in time to kill his past self in order to have two copies of his favorite gun. Surprisingly enough, they do have gods, which they worship: Gork (Brutal but cunning) and Mork (Cunning but brutal), both locked in an eternal struggle against one another. Why? Because. - A lot of Necron lore is interesting, like Trazyn and the Silent King. It's just not my cup of tea. - The Old Ones are described to be frog-like or lizard-like people. - The T'au are a bit naive in some cases, usually approaching any new race with diplomacy. Some of those meetings ended poorly for them, like imagine striking peace with the Dark Eldar. The T'au aren't necessarily the blue aliens, although they are the main race. There are many races under the banner of the T'au, including humans who have left or their worlds were separated from the Imperium, known as Gue'vesa. There is, however, a T'au good faction, as it was later revealed that the T'au are headed by elders that brainwash and subjugate others to their own will. We call that good faction the "Farsight Enclaves", led by Commander Farsight. - The factions depicted in Bricky's video are only the major factions. There are multiple smaller factions with different xenos and humans, each are either interesting or horrifying, depending on the stories or depictions. Weshammer and Majorkill touch upon these topics.
Woooow, thank you so much for taking the time to write this comment. You thought me so much, and answered so many questions! 🤯🤩 I hope this comment gets a lot of likes, because it's SOOO good! And I'm not sure how to repay you for this, but I hope you get some value out of the videos! Have a nice day ❤️
The reason the orks can just "imagine" stuff into existence is because they have this kind of passive warp effect that grows stronger the more orks are present - once it passes a threshold they can use this, knowingly or not, to just will stuff to happen. Example: Once some orks got into a fight with some space marine terminators (in case you don't know, these are elite space marines with super heavy armour and weapons) and the orks got wrecked pretty badly so they decided to run. Now, space marine terminators are generally slow, but, since they were of the blood angels chapter, their armour was painted red. Orks believe that things that are painted red go faster (hence their vehicles are often red), therefore the orks' power of belief from the warp cause the space marine terminators to PHYSICALLY BECOME FASTER and catch up to them and kill them. Orks man. Love em.
1:16:38 Once a Imperial Guard regiment went out of ammo during battle with Orcs so their Capitan started to shoot "Boom" "Boom" "Boom"(yes like he was shooting) and orcs though he really do so they started to die (literally falling from invisble bullet XD) its was soo comedic untill a big Orc group started to charge at them and literally nothing was working untill the Capitan heard Orcs chanting: *Im a tank! Im a tank! Im a tank!* *I literally pissed myself while reading this story XD*
@@prossnip42 the Alpha Legion itself is still put together. But I’m not sure if the same can be said for Alpharius/Omegon. As for Magnus, he is literally missing pieces of his souls so he isn’t put together in a more literal sense.
@@prossnip42 not true, in Alpharius: Head if the Hydra it was revealed that Alpharius and Omegon actually swapped places. Meaning that the one that died on Pluto was actually Omegon pretending to Alpharius.
@@joshtompkins1538 anyway, since the two if them are actually one soul split in two bodies more or less and one of them is dead (probably), Alpharius is not "put together" too.
On the question of the creation of slannesh: chaos gods are made of the emotions they represent, all the messed up stuff the eldar was doing kind of hit critical mass in the warps and tore open a huge hole in reality where slannesh manifested for the first time.
This is just epic, epic, epic!!!! Thank you so much for your comment! Just read a similar comment from @joshtompkins1538, and I'm still just smiling of how happy I am to start my journey into 40k!
Craftworlds are the size of small planets and can grow like a living organism, since they're made out of Wraithbone, basically a material made out of pure psychic energy, called directly out of the Warp by Eldar Bonesingers (what they have instead of builders). Wraithbone that is 'alive' in a sense, and grows rather than being cut or crafted and can even heal itself. Each Craftworld contains multiple different biomes in it's domes preserving the habitats and species from the Eldar's now lost homeworlds. So it's like many worlds within a giant spaceship. You could go from a desert biome, to an ice one, to a lush jungle, all just on your morning commute. At least that's my headcanon :p
43:50 The chaos gods are eternal, they have always existed. However, certain huge events can cause them to gain enough power and influence over the material world to gain a physical form with its own agency. That is what the Eldar did to create Slaanesh's physical embodiment. The other chaos gods had similar origins, though we can only be fairly sure about one of those origins. We can guess that Khorne was born from the War in Heaven.
It's actually wild how quickly you sre picking up the concepts, like your interpretation of why the humanity has to fight so hard against chaos is 100% correct
You should definitely check out luetin09's Tau video. Bricky does an ok job at giving a overview of most of the races, but really didn't touch on any of the Tau's lore which makes them seem like they don't fit the setting way more than they actually do.
For about a time “innocent from chaos” that is defiantly a thing. First off the chaos gods first came into being during the necron’s war in heaven (the fighting of the old ones, eldar, and orks long long ago). Additionally the imperium under the emperor (while he was alive) was hyper secular and rejecting of any superstition or religion.
Ironically, that nearly led to a brand new Chaos god being created, a Chaos god of unbelief, with Big E becoming it's avatar. I think it was the horus heresy that stopped that from happening, mainly the end of it which eventually led to the Emperor being worshipped. Which may or may not have made him into a literal god in the warp, it's not entirely clear but there are without a doubt warp entities like the Undying Saint Celestine, The Sanguinor and The Legion of the Damned
1:39:27 Yes, there is constantly new Lore, new stories - either in new books or new rule books. For Example, GW recently reintroduced the Leagues of Votann (formerly Squats, basically Space Dwarfs). And when it comes to the Tabletop, there are new Rules, Rulebooks and Editions coming out. We're currently in 9th Edition and the new Arks of Omens books gonna introduce new Rules (and lore). Also the "I didn't know you need a dice" comments made me laugh - depending on your army you may need a ton 😅
Thank you so much for your comment!! I was really curious on how the new lore work. I feel like I hear now and then "It was better when X", or "No, that was back in Y". But as I understand it there are mainly two new ways new lore comes into play? Either a new book is being released (is this from a verified publisher/author or something?). OR there is a new tabletop game coming out. Are the rule books with the tabletop games HUGE? 🤔👀 hahaha, feel like a total noob! But so glad I got at least one laugh from the video!! 🤪🤩
@@OleHerland Everything that is released under the Warhammer 40k label, comes from Games Workshop. They started in the early 80s as a small company in the UK producing Miniatures for D&D and other Tabletop- and RPG Games. Today they are a Billion dollar company in the stock market. 40k (and the Fantasy equivalent Age of Sigmar) don't get released as new games, new Rules get released every now and then, big Updates are called Editions (we are at 9th, I started with 3rd back in 1999), Updates for Armies are Codices and Sometimes specialed Rules, like Ark of Omens. Think of it as Updates and DLC for Video Games. ^^ There are also other games released Like Kill Team, Necromunda, Horus Heresy, Gorkamorka, Space Hulk and so on... There's a lot and yes there are big books 😅
Okay, the question of: was it always like this; No, before Humans, before Eldar, the warp was calm. The gods that existed were less powerful and had less influence on the Material Plane. After the War In Heaven, the 3 primary gods started growing in power faster and faster. Still unable to influence en-mass but now able to send agents out. Once the Elder Murder/Fucked Slannesh into existence and the eye of Terror was opened, did the Warp now have full ability to affect the Material Plane. Inject Humanity into this soup and you have a recipe for pure Chaos.
Thank you so much for your answer to my question! I feel like I understand so much more. The peaces are falling more and more into place. The best thing is that everything does make sense when you hear it. Holy crap, I'm just so exited about this! I can't understand that this universe has just been hidden from my view all these years!
@@OleHerland one question you asked during the Orks part, Are modern Orks based off of 40k. The answer is yes and no. Tolkien's orcs are the bread and butter but, 40k is a reflection of Lord of the Rings... In space. Made more unique over the years by new editions and fanfiction influence. Our understanding of certain concepts are direct reflections of 40k, everything from the Zerg to Iron Man and Power Armor. Even games like Halo or Gears of War have direct pulls from 40k. If you want more, it's out there. Books, vids, games, just no movies (big production) or shows... Yet. Henry Cavill (Superman/Witcher) is making a move to fix this and is the current voice for its Cinematic future.
27:18 as I said in the last video Bricky gets Angron’s lore completely wrong. He didn’t remove parts of his brain. Rather he had these special implants jammed into his head against his will. Angron is so tragic because from day 1 he was constantly getting screwed over by things that were beyond his control.
Aaah, thank you so much for telling me. It's nice that you corrected it before false facts get stuck in my brain. Angron sounds like a character that is going to be incredibly interesting to get to know.
@@OleHerland yeah angrons story is a trully dark one, he was meant to be an empath but.... well i won't spoil it but what happened to him and how the Emperor treated him was all out of his controll. even his "Acencion" to daemonhood was forced upon him while he was dying (which he at that point wanted) by Lorgar who made him a Daemonprince
I think the thing is that it isn't that the Tau (T'au coz copyright) aren't evil, I think its a combination of two things. One, that they are a newer race and one of the themes of 40k is "and then it got worse", so the biggest crime of the Tau in the beginning is crippling naivety which is steadily giving way to a creeping insidious malevolence as their society and government react to the fact that everything fucking sucks in the galaxy. Second, it isn't that they aren't evil, just that their evil is relatively mundane, as you can probably tell from Brickys quote their attitude is most analogous to 19th century colonial empires, seeking to dominate and "educate" what they view as lesser races, which isn't not evil but is certainly more regular evil compared to a lot of the other factions
@@OleHerland Tau ARE evil, the only difference with other races is that the Tau use their "greater good" as an excuse to fool themselves into thinking that they are better than other races that act moved on greed, hate or desire for domination.
"Clowning + Knowledge", this is another faction Bricky gets wrong. The Harlequins (named after a character from classical Italian opera) are not clowns, they are historical performers. They perform tributes and reenactments to keep alive the memory of the ancient Eldars (before their corruption by Slaanesh). And that's also why they guard the Black Library, it contains, among other things, the accumulated knowledge of Aeldari civilization. They're also heavily against Chaos, and particularly Slaanesh, for obvious reasons.
The four Chaos Gods, like other prominent entities of the warp, do not literally manifest. Giving them a clear shape and dimension is impossible, given the very nature of what they represent and of the immaterium. for each of them the current state of conflicts, suffering, degradation; it's just a game, a way like any other, to gain power. To the gods of chaos, even a thousand space marines are no more menacing than a child facing a battalion of tanks. At most we could say that greater demons or similar manifest themselves through gifts, but it is a very small fraction of their being.
I highly recommend reading both The Infinite and the Divine as well as the Twice Dead King books. All about Necrons and probably some of the best writing to come out of Warhammer 40k in recent years.
Thank you so much! Took a screenshot of your comment and added it to my list of Warhammer books I want to read. Can't wait to get my head above water so I can sit and enjoy a good book again 😍
Yes. Slaanesh was created from the critical mass of the eldar's complete overload of emotion and excess. He/She/It emerged with a scream so violent it tore the very souls of the Eldar right from their bodies and Their birth cradle is the Eye of Terror, situated in the very center of what once was the Eldar Empire. In a sense, Slaanesh burst from the very rotten heart of the Eldar on both a physical, spiritual and emotional level. Now, about the Tyranids surrounding the Milky Way Galaxy: We are so fuckass surrounded that they once invaded our galaxy from BELOW THE GALACTIC PLANE. You can see it happening at 1:10:10 with the 'Hive Tendrils'-their version of a 'formation' creeping towards the galactic plane. That's a major lore event regarding the Hive Fleet Leviathan which is currently the main Hive Fleet currently invading the 40k universe in what is known as the Third Tyrannic War. Which is the largest and scariest of said Tyrannic Wars and the two previous ones were already absolutely bonkers and DEVESTATED large parts of the Imperium, including putting major hurt on the homeworlds of the Ultramarines and the Blood Angels Space Marine Chapters, Macgragge and Baal respectively. The First Tyrannic War on it's own was the greatest test and most crippling war the Ultramarines have ever faced in their entire history and that says a LOT concidering it's the bloody Ultramarines who have always been up to the task and having their own empire of planets and whatnot. They even lost their entire 1st Company of Terminators, THE very best veterans of a Space Marine Chapter, sometimes with CENTURIES of battle under their belt. What made the First Tyrannic War even worse concering the already concideable damage the Hive Fleet did is that the Nids also fought numerous other factions on their path towards the homeworld of the Ultramarines. Necrons, Chaos Marines, even Ork Pirates. Heck, even after their defeat and being scattered to the solar winds hasn't totally taken them out of the picture. They have their own splinter fleets who are feral but still accumilate biomass and THAT can grow into an entierly new Hive Fleet that is just as dangerous as any invasion from beyond our galaxy. What I am saying is.. Tyranids are really freaking bad news.
Chaos is everything. Everything we can describe, talk about, trying to understand are only small particles of overall chaos. Everything, even so called chaos gods, all our world, all our thoughts. Everything.
1:10:20 The SwarmLord and Old One Eye are Tyranid creatures that have reappeared multiple time on difference worlds dispite being told they have been killed on different battlefields. The Swarmlord is generally seen as the leader organism on the battlefield, a bug so perfect that it will be reabsorbed and recreated every time it's killed. Old one Eye has a more interesting story thats worth reading about but it's too long for me to type out here.
if you wanna know more and deeper lore about each Space Marine Legion, you should chack out Bricky's "Every Space Marine Legion explained." It's also explained pretty funny.
God's are like platonic ideals Like if the warp is ware emotions, dreams and motivation exist. Those things are like the matter in our existence. Imagine all that emotion clumping together like gas in space. More and more and more until it goes critical and starts burning.
Thank you so much for your comment. Your comments are always so good! It does make sense when you sum it up like that. In one way, it's really straight forward. But when I try to really ingest the thought it's kind of difficult wrapping my head around it. Almost like thinking about the ever expanding universe, and that it's endless. But what is on the other side. Just have to accept it, can't REALLY understand it 100%.
Orks are a bioweapon created by the old ones to fight the necrons. They spread through fungal spores that terraform the planet they're on to suit the orks needs, these fungi also create their slave and food races. The orks as a race grow stronger/smarter the more powerful their opponent is, literally. An orc grows with every victory they accumulate. So a warboss is usually around 10 feet or so tall at least. The ork egineers are just BORN with innate knowledge of how to build the things they build.
Tyranids like any faction has a ton of lore. Even though they are some of the less developed factions. They are named after the first known world that died to them. The world of Tyran. Tyranids come from outside the galaxy so we are basically seeing some too level near end game level of evolution. In fact, some people consider them more like a moving *_predatory ecosystem_* rather than a faction or race. Imagine having the entirety of the Savanah food chain turn on you and start attacking you. How are you going to fight the grass you walk on, the rodents that move through it and theion bidding it's time to pounce you. Tyranids are all somewhat psychic. It is how individual Tyranids mentally connect to each other. Shadow in the warp is like having people pack themselves like sardine in a pool. There is not going to be enough space for you to fit. You, the average telecommunication psyker will be pushed out of the warp (pool) and trying to force yourself in will certainly hurt you or drown you. Psykers can die trying to contact long distance where there is _shadow in the warp_
Great reaction! Always cool to see people first get into Warhammer. Highly recommend watching Bricky's video on all the space marine legions where he goes through all of them in depth
-The story of the Thousand Sons is tragic and fascinating. They didn't really want to join Horus in his rebellion, but were kind of forced to do it because they were branded as heretics for developing a full sorcery system based on the powers of the warp. (The powers of chaos are so corrupting that the empire tries to keep it a secret by killing off any citizen that has the slightest knowledge about it) Have you seen images of Chaos Space Marines showing deformities? That is a side effect of living in the warp for too long, and when the Thousand Sons started to show these signs, a chief sorcerer named Ahriman designed a ritual to protect all of his brothers from this corruption, and he succeeded... depending on who you ask. Those with big psychic powers came out even more powerful, but those with latent powers or no power at all got their armor sealed airtight and their bodies turned into ash instantly, so at this point, the Thousand Sons are divided into sorcerers and marines who are a semi-sentient soul trapped in an empty armor, acting as troops of automatons under the orders of the sorcerers. -Eldars carry a special jewel attached to their clothes or armor at all times. This jewel is tuned up with the psyche of the eldar in question, and its only purpose is to capture the soul of a dying eldar and contain it to prevent it from going to the warp. Eldar Craftworlds have a place similar to a forest made of a psychically conductive material where they keep tens of thousand of these gems. Also, Eldars have a unique kind of psykers called Seers, who actually use divination techniques to catch glimpses of the future. _Tyranids don't shoot lasers as far as I know. They use claws, teeth, swords made out of sharpened bone, barbed whips that inject neurotoxins, weapons that shoot poison or biological acid... they have a gun that is actually a miniaturized nest, with a creature producing larvae and other taking said larvae, putting them into a hyper-active state and throwing them down the barrel of the weapon. On impact, the Larvae use their sharp jaws to eat at armor, flesh and bone until they die a few seconds later due to exhaustion. -One of the reasons why people call the Tau nerds/weaboos is because there is this widespread theory that the race was designed with the sole purpose of attracting Japanese players. This can be noticed by the fact that the Tau are the race with most number of mechs, and on a first glance they would look like one the less evil races of the game.
43:57 The running Joke about Slannesh is she was Murder- F****d into existence, Which is also true. The StarCraft rumor is just that a rumor, however it being true for WarCraft and Warhammer: Fantasy seems more likely.
How big is the chaos god: VERY big. Each god have a realm in the Warp and that reals is big on a galactic scale. The god IS that realm. Big skyscraper-sized guy sitting in a throne in the center of that realm is merely an avatar.
Okay, the question of: do the chaos gods come out of their realm; No, they are confined to their own section of the warp. They use agents as puppets, to spread their influence and will. It is possible to enter the warp and engage them on their own turf but that is just death. Some of them can project themselves into the material plane but they are not physical.
Oooh, thank you so much for sharing this! I guess it kinda makes sense. From another comment I understood that the Chaos Gods are created by the emotions in the material plane. But maybe that "fuel" of feelings is only available for them in the warp? 🤔 Anyways, thank you so much for answering. if one COULD go out, that would make for an epic story tho 👀
@@OleHerland something to know, each chaos God is at war with the others. If one were to leave the others would take that space in the warp. They all exist in the same "house" but each wants the others to leave. So they each make life difficult for the others. There are more gods than just the 4. The Eldar have several, the Orks have 2, Humans don't have one (yet). Other races have lesser demons posing as gods. It's a whole grab bag of deities in the warp but the big 4 are the ones that are trying to expand their spheres of influence.
the ork gestalt power also only works if the machine could work, it gets taken too seriously and is memed a lot but generally an ork weapon will still have to be constructed somewhat correctly
@@OleHerland in general it does contribute to their effectiveness, but the power of the Waaagh! energy grows with the number of orks present, a big army in the millions will generally have bigger effects from warpaints and such, it also only affects orks and their tech
The four Major Chaos Gods in a nutshell: Khorne: I hate you and everything you stand for, and that's the truth. Tzeentch: We do a little trolling......Or do we? (VSauce theme plays) Nurgle: Painfully optimistic nihilism Slaanesh: What's a Safe Word?
The War in Heaven between the Necrontyr/Necrons and the Old Ones lasted like 6 million years. I think Bricky didn't specify that. So much death and destruction created havoc inside of the Warp and a plague of Enslavers, weird warp creatures similar to eldritch spiders that feed on all sentient life and turned them into portals from where more Enslavers came through. This Enslaver plague was the nail on the Old Ones' coffin. The Necrons went to the great sleep not only to wait for the galaxy to heal, but also for the plague to have ended.
man always warms my heart to see someone dive into warhammer to answer your question there have been cases of the chaos gods actually physically taking part in a battle or interfening on a event in the warp or in real space but it is very rare for a god to actually fight most of their actions are by proxy or mental power
Thank you so much for your comment, really appreciate it! 😍It's so much fun to get to know the universe. I had no idea it was going to be so insanely epic 😱 Also, thank you for answering my question! 🤩
The Silent King had two Pharos under him and he spoke to and they ordered everyone else in his name. He personally never spoke to anyone else and that's why he's called The Silent King.
found your videos while looking for react videos to watch while painting an army for a friend, and I feel your excitement for this exactly mirrors my first time learning about 40k.
Sounds like a really good time painting! Want tk grt into that one day as well! 🤩 Thank you so much for your positive comment 😍 Yea, I feel suuuper exited to get into 40k. Such an amazing universe 😱😍❤️
'Weird', well Bricky isn't really that familiar with the non-human factions, so he can't really explain them well. It's quite normal for someone who specialises in certain factions, so to speak, to not really understand the lore of other factions that well. So he gets a lot wrong about the Eldar especially, and leaves a lot of the cool stuff out (and also didn't show off the best art of them). I can tell because I'm a (rare) Eldar fan! All Eldar are latent psykers and their seers can see the future. So being able to know what's going to happen next obviously influences one's battle tactics and strategy in a way that might look strange to one's enemies. Actually Mon-Keigh translates to mammals, and humans are called that by the Eldar because it's implied they are ultimately of reptilian origin, despite their outward similarity to us.
As far as the Chaos Gods artwork is concerned. Most of them are depictions of them. They do not have a real physical form. They might have Avatars of sorts but they are just huge godlike powers in the warp. Some of the pictures were of Greater Daemons of each of the chaos gods.
As others have said the Harlequins aren't really clowns, so much as circus performers, preserving and performing the legends of the Eldar race through their dances and dramas. And they are actually some of the setting's biggest 'good guys' since their ultimate enemy is chaos and demons, who they constantly fight against and will work with (or manipulate) anyone to do so. In a weird way like the Eldar version of the Grey Knights. So not demon clowns but 'anti-demon clowns'. Yeah, Bricky really doesn't get the Eldar at all.
43:49 pretty much. Every single thought manifests in the Warp. All a chaos god is is a bunch of thoughts that follow a specific “theme” coalescing into a single mass. That mass then takes on a life of its own, becoming a chaos god.
What?! How you explain this is just making something that is already so epic even more epic. I don't understand how WH40k can just continue to blow my mind over and over again. So, if there was other emotions that are insanely strong, there could be even more chaos gods created? Or, maybe all the negative emotions are basically covered? 🤔
@@OleHerland the 4 mentioned are the only ones that can be called gods, however there are lesser chaos “demigods” that are born in the same way but aren’t as powerful. The only chaos demigod that we really know about is Vashtorr the Arkifane, master of the Soul Forge and a MASSIVE part of the current events in 40k.
@@OleHerland malaal is the chaos god of nihilism and his goal is to destroy chaos itself, a type of anti chaos god kinda like what is going on with the emperor slowly turning into the ACTUAL god of humanity thanks to all the worship he is recieving, or at least that is somewhat of what is hinted at
Few things about the Necrons: All of them have still have their consciousness. The issue is the Necrontyr had a strict caste system which carried over to them when they became Necrons. The higher up you where in the caste system. The better body you got during the Biotransference. The lowest caste doesn't even have the ability to speak and lack the processing power to think for themselves. The lower caste are now prisoners in there own machine bodies. The Silent King had the means to render all the Necrons regardless of caste from the lowest warrior to the highest Overlord, completely subserviently to him. However after after the War in Heaven just before the Great Sleep he destroyed these Command Protocols as a from of repentance for what he did to his people . Necrons also accidently created the other Chaos Daemons. The warp was actually quite a nice place before the War In Heaven. However the War was so violent and destructive it started to mirror that within the warp. Eventually twisting it into what it is now and started the path that would eventually birth the Chaos Daemons. The Necrons are by far the most technologically advance race and could easily conquer the entire galaxy. If not for a few issues majority of them are still sleeping, the dynasties that are awake are fighting each other over stupid things such as social slights that happened eons ago, They are prideful traditionalists that have huge lists of laws and traditions the must adhere to or risk being seen as having no honor. Also he was called the Silent King because he was only to speak to his two advisors and his will would be carried to the various dynasties though them. And lots lots more. The books " The Twice Dead King" and "The Infinite and the Divine" did so much to flush out Necron lore.
Thank you so much for your comment, and giving me more information about the Necrons! I feel like I understand more and more so quickly with great comments like this. Really crazy that they could take over the entire galaxy?! That must make them a great threat to the imperium, right? 👀
As for Orks(Pardon the double comment cuz my last one was pretty dang long), they have this very funny way of viewing victory and defeat. It goes like this: 'Orkses is never defeated in battle. If we win we win, if we die we die fighting so it don't count. If we runs for it we don't die neither, cos we can come back for annuver go, see!" But as funny as they are, they have their terrifying moments as well. Like Ork Kommandos who are actually quite intelligent and very stealthy. Other Orks don't like them for being 'un-Orky'. They do not care. And they do their job very well, and that job involves inflitration, assassination, sabotage, they can even create distractions and use camouflage. Heck, they're so good at remaining the stuff of myths that several Imperial soldiers have been branded cowards and incompetent and gotten themselves executed for it for recounting how a stealthy Ork blew up their backline. And then there is Ghazghkull Mag Uruk Thraka. The scariest Ork in fiction. You should look him up yourself cause he is quite literaly a BEAST. As for the fun factor, Bricky nails it. Ork players are hilarious and fun. Heck, this is a Warhammer Fantasy example but I once played against a player who played the Goblins in Blood Bowl 2(Which is a sports sub.setting in the Warhammer Fantasy universe), which are also Greenskins. He kept fucking up EVERYTHING he did and did nothing but laugh as his own stuff kept hurting him. It hurt me more when it worked, but I have not had such a good laugh in a very long time.
If you’re at all interested in the tabletop, Bricky did a follow up video called “What’s the best Warhammer 40K faction/army to start with” which basically goes back over the armies he talked about in these two videos on a PURELY tabletop viability. How strong they are…what type of army they field…the price…and the skill required. It’s pretty neat, and cuts a bunch of the lore down to talking purely about gameplay.
6:07 The Chaos Gods can't enter real space/the Materium. Only their minions can invade our reality. 28:12" It's Magnus the Red. But because he likes studying and casting spells (he is an A++ psyker), it's kinda funny to cgaracterize him as a nerd. 1:34:38 The Tau can be characterized as futuristic, space communinsts. This dogma of theirs, this"Greater Good", isn't so good and nice as it sounds. It has come caveats. It's their propaganda. That is why Bricky in his part 1 quickly showed a Tau unit with the text "No, not them either", implying that they are also aholes etc.
Thank you so much for your comment! Read a few comments about the Chaos Gods not being able to enter The Materium, but thank you! But, just imagine if they could for a brief time. What a story that would make! 😱 Magnus The Nerd was really funny! I feel like I'm part of the "in group" now that I know that reference!
@@OleHerland "But, just imagine if they could for a brief time." Well in that case, all races are fucked. Good thing then, that can't happen! The Emperor, protects!
5:55 that is a bit of an interesting question. Mainly because it has two answers. If the question is if they ever enter reality then the answer is no, they are unable to leave the warp. If you are asking if they fight in general then the answer is probably. You see time in the Warp doesn’t work the same way it does for us, so mapping out the history of the Warp is nearly impossible. But I wouldn’t be surprised if the Chaos gods actually fought each other one on one before.
Thank you for your comment! That is really interesting to think about. So, they are a bit "unknown" in the lore? They exist, they have a background, but not a lot of story outside of that? A tale about a fight between some of the Chaos Gods would be REALLY interesting to read. They are for sure one thing, and that is EPIC!
@@OleHerland Well, the main problem is the Warp is a realm of thought and it’s questionable if they are actually intelligent beings instead of just concepts that forces rally under. Deamons Are a Part of their god, spawned from their ideals, and Deamons are also beings made by thoughts and emotions. The gods as we describe them may not actually exist. That and if they do reality couldn’t handle them breaking in. We do know the Ork Gods Gork and Mork regularly beat up minor chaos gods though.
its stated that before Slaneesh got to Khaine, Khorne caime and slapped her out of the way to fight Khaine. Going by fantasy lore Tzeeench was once the strongest and the other 3 ganged up on him for it.
You asked a question about if the Warp and Chaos was always there and the answer is yes it was. Iirc it wasn’t until Mankind learned of the Immaterium (warp) existence around the 17th/18th millennia and developed technology to be able to tear the fabric of real space to access the warp and use it for travel that things went south so to speak 😂 From then on with Mankind increasingly exposed to the warp and with the immense help of the Eldar as described in the video the stability of the Immaterium steadily broke down as the power and the influence of the pure chaos energy manifest grew. Grew to the point that the latest story lore has had a unfathomably large warp storm quite literally split the imperium and the galaxy in two destroying the planets holding the warp back and allowing untold Chaos to pour fourth in all directions.
Holy shit, when you write it like that it sounds really epic. Just trying to imagine it is just mind blowing. Thank you for your comment and for adding information that I can try to store in my brain!
@@OleHerland no worries mate. Honestly that’s the most basic description I could come up with to simplify it. The sheer amount of lore that’s been written on it all, truly phenomenal 🙂
Tempelin Institute i would advise against it, it just takes info from wiki or similar and just throw it in a video. spreading anomalies about the canon or not up to date with the codex.
1:08:50 Once Tyranid Hive Fleet attacked a planet infested by Nurgle and ofc Nurgle Chaos Marines. It did win actually so Hive ship prepared to consume all biomass from the planet to leave only a husk. *It was so disgusting that it literally PUKED and turned away* XDDDDDDDDDD
On the contrary, most of the people who live in Warhammer 40K don't know about Chaos. Because it's the best defense against Chaos, if every soldier and civilian of the Imperium knew what is Chaos, they'd be either horrified and unable to act, or will join Chaos. The names of the Chaos Gods are taboo and forbidden, and only a select few who fought them several times really knows about Chaos, and in a very surface level of way. Like, if we take a regular guardsman, he may know that these heretics in red like to pray for a Blood God. But they don't know that the Blood God IS real and is able to hurt them, for them, Chaos is just a delusion that the heretics have invented to stop believing in the God-Emperor ^^ And as for a time before Chaos, there was a time where mankind didn't knew what Chaos was. But there never really was a time without Chaos, Chaos appeared with the first emotions, with the first living beings ^^
Wow, thank you so much for your comment. You touched upon a lot of things that no one else has mentioned in their comments. So fun to learn more and more of how things fit together. Maes sense that it's a good idea to hide the fact that chaos exists for people, or else chaos would just grow stronger 👀
The Tyranids are believed to have traveled through our galaxy before, since there are certain places, such as Catachan, where some of the local wildlife has shown sign of similar genetics to the Tyranids.
There are two Interpetations that actually make the Tau incredibly grimdark. First, the tau are incredibly naive. They are overconfident, to the point of foolishness. They have made huge miscalcuations, like trusting the Dark Eldar, or believing that titans (Literal walking churches of artillery and death) are just imperial propaganda. They even think they killed slaanesh, after they barely banished a greater daemon of Slaanesh. They are a young empire in an ancient galaxy, boldly walking where they should not tread. They are not willing to do what needs to be done in order to survive. The second interpetation, on the other hand, is that the tau *don't* need to change their ways. That their believe in a brighter future is possible. This in itself is not grimdark, but it instantly makes all other factions ten times as dark. Because it means all of the cruelty they perpetrate are not nessesary. There is a better way, but they are so blinded by fanaticism and theology that they cannot see. And, to make it worse, the tau are simply too small an empire to ever best these goliaths of empires. The possiblility of a bright future is reachable...but the imperium is too blind to see, and the tau too weak to bring it about.
i've always prefefred the second part myself and to be fair to the T'au trusting the dark eldar it was their first meeting with any eldar, they just got stuck with the worst ones, and as for titans again first major war with the Imperium the largest thing they'd have seen from humans prior is standard battle tanks.
9:49 the best thing about the bird is that one head can see al that happened in past, while the second one sees all, that’s going to happen, and yet, both heads are blind for the present
About rules and factions. All 3 things you asked are true. Games workshop releases new rules with new lore so it stays somewhat connected. Every 3-4 years there is core rules rework (overhaul of the game) called additions (currently it is 9th addition), also there are codex books for every faction specific rules that get updated, ant GW often makes smaller adjustments to balance by changing models points a little. And also new games come out from time to time. Like warhammer killteam or Horus heresy with little bits of lore as well
Thank you so much for your comment! Are youtube videos about lore on youtube a collection of different lore peaces pit together from all of these places? 👀 Super interesting!
@@OleHerland These sources set a general direction to the story of 40k. It gets more fleshed out in books (there are A LOT of books by many authors). I believe more detailed lore comes from books but i dont know for certain for example with last update to rules we learned that chaos leader Abaddon with his new big daemon lord friend are trying to find some sort of artifact in big abandoned ship graveyard called arks of omen. No details, just a direction.
It's theorised that the Chaos Gods represent manifestations of concepts that were always important to sentient life, but the millions of years of bloodshed that was started with the War In Heaven has polluted the Warp with so much negative emotions that they have become reflections of the real universe: full of hatred and spite. Khorne represented honor and facing adversity, Tzeentch represented hope and striving to control your own destiny, and Nurgle represented the natural cycle of death and rebirth. But thanks to millions of years of hatred and bloodshed being sent through the warp, now they are twisted mockeries of those original ideas. Except Slaanesh obviously, since they were a relatively recent addition that was entirely birthed out of evil thirstiness. The Chaos Gods weren't naturally evil, but the races of the galaxy made them that way. Daemons weren't always around, but they are basically a twisted reflection of the endless conflict that the galaxy has had. The only reason the Chaos Gods send daemons out to murder stuff, is probably because the galaxy has had so much murder already that it's all they know how to do now.
Thank you so much for your comment! Really interesting, and I'm starting to get more and more of a grasp of how chaos/the warp fits into the universe 😍
Some Drukhari (Dark Eldar) kidnap entire populations, to then take the youngest slice and leave it in a sort of huge herd. years go by, even if these people live miserably and in terror, they create a life, a family. one day the Drukhari come back, to take the children, torture them, kill them or take them to their abodes. All while you parent, are helpless. This is just one of many examples of their cruelty.
So, to answer your questions about the Chaos Gods, they do exist in the warp but have never manifested in the material plane. They are the most powerful entities in the warp and can change their appearance at will. They don't have true forms as they are just an amalgamation of emotions in the warp. When Khorne appears he can be the size of a skyscraper or look like a normal man. For demons to manifest in reality there has to be a breach between dimensions. The size of the breach determines what types and amount of demons can come through. The gods are too big to fit through any of these rifts. If there ever was a big enough rift for on of the chaos gods to come through it would be cataclysmic and every other faction and race would be fighting just that god and their troops for survival. It is mention that the God Emperor's presence in the warp is close to that of the chaos gods and the Emperor was able to force and entire legion of space marines and their primarch to kneel with just his psyche alone, and it didn't seem very taxing either. So one god entering the material realm would require almost every faction to fight. If all 4 ever materialize it would presumably be the end of all life in the galaxy. To answer your question to has Chaos always existed, the warp has been hostile since before mankind evolved. So it has always been hostile to humans. For a long time humans were unaware of the warp and what it really was because it was pretty calm up until about the 25th millennia. Then Slannesh was born and really riled up the other chaos gods and humanity fell from their seat of power. Originally, there were two races that we still know of, one called "The Old Ones" and the other the Necrontyr. The Old Ones ascended from being material beings to being entities that existed in "The Realm of Souls". They created the Eldar and debatably humans. The Necrontyr got fed up with their lives and invented their own godlike beings called the Ca'tan. These were basically semi-sentient clouds of gas that ate star matter to survive. The Necontyr captured the gas and but it in gigantic robot bodies with computerized brains. Some stuff happened the Ca'tan decided souls tasted better than stars and they converted all Necrontyr into robotic beings and ate their souls. The Necrontyr from this point on were know as the Necrons. After eating all the Necron souls the Ca'tan decided to eat the souls of the Old Ones. The Old Ones were powerless against the Necrons because their Psychic powers didn't work on the machines. So the Old Ones created a new race to fight the Ca'tan called Krorks. The Krorks only cared about war and fighting and were nearly unkillable. So the Ca'tan and Necrons fought the Old Ones and the Kroks for an incredibly long time. This war was so massive that it converted the "Realm of Souls" into a horrible hellscape now know as "The Warp". A splinter cell of the Ca'tan decided that they should eat the other Ca'tan and take their power as well. The Ca'tan fell to infighting and the Necron eventually turned on the Ca'tan and shattered their "souls" into shards that were spread across the galaxy. When the Ca'tan started infighting the Krorks with nothing more to fight turned on the "Old Ones'. The "Old Ones" were possibly completely wiped out or a few fled the galaxy and are in hiding. While this happened the Eldar continued to grow their empire and became the dominant species. The Necron seeing the Eldar as too powerful went into hibernation to wait until the Eldar empires fell with time. The Krorks devolved during their fight with the Old Ones and became what are now Orks. The Eldar grew in power and by the time Humanity started exploring the stars the Eldar had become complacent in their position of superiority.
Wow, thank you so much for your comment! I've heard in some other comments that the chaos gods can't get out to the material plane, but none has explained it as well as you. AND with thoughts about what would happen if one of the gods got into the material plane. That would be an epic tail. Thank you again!
idk if you see this or not but the orks thought each color have their own ability heres the list red = fast/speed blue = lucky yellow = wealth black = toughness camo = sneaky/stealth purple = complete invisibility green = best color of them all edit: Ork use teeth as currency yes teeth
There is 1 subfaction of Chaos that always is forgotten. As the Imperium has two great factions being the Imperium of Mankind and Adeptus Mechanicus, Chaos also has two great factions and very similar to the "normal human" counterpart. Chaos Undevided (or devided if you have only 1 patron chaos god) and the Dark Mechanicum. During the Horus Heresy, the Imperium of Man wasnt the only one having a civil war, Mars also had one ending in the original Fabricator General (like the big boss) siding with Chaos and the new and current Fabricator General to step up, being Belisarius Cawl. The Dark Mechanicum is very similar to its "non chaos counterpart" but it goes even further with experimentantation and getting new knowledge that is forbiden by the normal Mechanicum, such as using demons souls to fuel machines, using tainted AI to make better things or just using anything that is deemed unholy by the Imperium of Man and the Adeptus Mechanicus. Dark Mechanicum aswell provide with weapons and vehicles to the Chaos armies just like its counterpart to the Imperium. So yea, there ya go. Is a sub faction very well forgotten but that doesnt mean that is like a "lesser" faction, just its often forgotten about, without the Dark Mechanicum, nor Cultist, Chaos Imperial Guard Regiments, Warbands of all sorts or Chaos Marines wouldnt have any kind of ammo, weapons or vehicles to fight with (except for the pillaged ones) just like its "normal" counterpart with the Imperium.
THANK YOU so much for your comment!! That was so much fun to read about, and it's almost a bit crazy that they get forgotten. They sound really interesting, and have a huge impact on the lore. Thank you so much for telling me about them 🤩 Also, if someone else watches the video maybe they stumble upon your comment and learn a thing or two as well 😍
@@OleHerland hahaha, I doubt about that, far I have seen about the fans of Wh40k, almost everybody is very well versed on the lore and normaly, we, tend to watch or see new people getting to the lore because is fascinating and, this is real, the most interesting part of wh40k is that the lore is 50% speculations and "it could be like this" and 50% real facts, so listening new ideas or seeing new people getting into this vast Universe with diferent points of views is pretty cool a d heartwarming (from my part at least cuz am a Lamenter in heart so am very fond in seeing new people getting into this). So as Bricky said, just go to town on the lore, investigate, watch new vids about anything and search your favorite faction or subfaction and lemme tell ya that you have years to research on this, I have more than 5 years reading about Wh40k and i still found new things. So keep it u.
It is basically seasons, yes. The Tabletop War Game is on the 9th edition if memory serves, with some folks thinking 10th is just around the corner. also, fun fact, the War in Heaven was 65 million years prior to the current time period of 40k. The Necrons took a 65 million-year power nap.
I've got lots of friends that only collect and paint, some that only read the books and lore, others that only play the video games so you definatly do you :)
When you unpause, rewind the video 5s, because you miss some points between playing the video, and still speaking your mind. Lore gets added all the time, and every 3 years a new edition of the table top rules gets released, with changes a lot of rules. Rules do change in between with the Codex releases too (Faction specific rules)
Thank you so much for your comment and the tip! Really good! I really need to start doing that. I think it's going to be a lot better for both me and the viewers🤩 Oh, I've heard from the other comments that the lore get's updated when new games gets released. But I didn't know that it's every 3 years. Thank you!
The Chaos gods dont usually go out in battle, they are locked in eternal conflict with one another and the emperor of mankind, their avaters however are constantly in combat, or pranks in tzeenchs case
@@OleHerland Yeah, Warhammer 40K is first and foremost a miniature games, developped to sell miniatures, so GW will use any excuse imaginable to let people have their fun with how the models looks like ^^ Usually each faction has a dozen "official" painting schemes that can be used as inspiration, or reproduced, and then they'll tell you that you can create any colour scheme you want it doesn't matter ^^
Think of it this way. A God is only real because you believe in this God. Slaanesh was birthed because so many eldar thought naughty and depraved and all this was so concentrated in the worlds they lived in. It distilled like alcohol until Slaanesh was completed and a concept became real
The tabletop game has been updated since its inception with new editions every once in a while. The current edition is the 9th. Some editions have deviated more from preceding editions than others, biggest overhauls have been in 2nd, 3rd and 8th editions. In addition to the core rules receiving updates, each army will periodically receive new rulebooks known as a codex, one codex many codeces. Some armies haven't been around from the start, for instance Tau received their first codex in 4th edition, custodes first got a mini codex in 7th and there's a new faction of space dwarfs that came out after Bricky's video in 9th edition. There's also other games in addition to the main Warhammer 40k game. There's the Horus Heresy game which is set during the event of the same name and plays similar to 7th edition and earlier rather than the overhauled ruleset of 8th and 9th and focuses on the civil war between human factions, mostly space marines, so these factions have greatly expanded rules since there aren't even any xenos factions. There's Kill Team which requires much fewer models and tasks player with controlling a handful of models individually rather than large units of several models each. There's Adeptus Titanicus which has its own models in a different scale so you'll have battle titans in huge battles but the models aren't significalntly larger than infantry models for the main game. There's a ton of specialist games both in and out of production, there's fleet combat games, aerial dogfight games, there's even an ork racing game. My game of choice is Horus Heresy, I've been building space marines while watching this video. I like the old style better than the new style and I finally just admitted to byself that I think space marines are pretty cool actually.
The thing about the Chaos Gods is that whatever they embody, they always need _more._ As the saying goes, "the dose makes the poison". Yes, they all have positive aspects _in moderation,_ but the very nature of the Chaos Gods is to always want to push that bit further. You start out enjoying a nice steak. Next time, though, the steak doesn't taste quite as good, so you splash out and buy the best filet steak. Next time, you need to push it a little further, so you enjoy bison steak. Then endangered whale meat. Maybe a nice roast panda. Then there's this guy who knows someone at the funeral home...
About your question (around 32:47) about Chaos ... If the Warp represents "everything", I guess that "at the beginning of times" it was like Heaven.. Then the universe made wars. (And the Eldar evolved into debauchery). Now, "there is only war" ... So The Warp should be an interesting place.
One thing bricky missed on nurgle is it also represents acceptance of your situation, or contentness. He represents the ability to live in and enjoy the moment. As for slaanesh, you are right, she/he/it is the easiest to fall into. Even chaos worshipers can fall to the dark prince. A khorne worshiper has the be careful not to take too much pride in his martial prowess. A Tzeench worshiper cant take too much enjoyment in their manipulations. Any excess can leas to fallling to Slaanesh. Even the other gods have to be careful, as their own excess can feed Slaanesh.
I say this to every person that watches this video. Bricky made it sound as if the Dark Eldar made a pact with Slaanesh. They don't. Slaanesh does indeed have them by the pinkie finger, but, in the sense that, their souls are being slowly eaten by Slaanesh. So they grow physically older, frail, and weak. However, they found out, that, through unfathomable torture of all kinds, they can syphon the essence of other being's souls, and revigorate themselves. So, fear and pain are indeed their bread and wine.
Aaah, thank you so much for giving clarification about that. I did hear in the comments on part one that there was some things that wasn't 100% accurate in this video, but I wan't sure what. But, if they made a pact of not is not on the top of my mind after watching this. I'm still just shell shocked from getting to know the Dark Eldar 🤪
The topic of when the chaos gods appeared is a complex one to answer for time has no meaning in the warp so while the chaos gods do have specific times they appeared they simultaneously appeared at all times and have thus always existed
There is some crazy staff and many interesting things about Tau actually. For instance the three major parts of Tau Empiere are Tau, Kroots and Vespids. And all of those races are really different from each other. Kroots for example are canibalistic predators that evolve after consuming someones other DNA. Tau from the other hand are'nt worse eathier couse they make death camps for those that rejects they philosophy of Greater Good (There is no "no" for them basically). A fun thing about Tau is also that the second major part of its Empire are humans because the Tau tread them well. They also have this wired thing about being split into "parts" they call "casts". The Fire Cast for instance is a term used to describe military ground forces of Tau. They even send politics (you were asking if there is some staff about policy) to a planet to discuss the most profitable terms of rule to them and themselves under Tau's command. They are really fun and cool to me honestly. But not as much cool as Chaos Forces (I love the spiky boys). I would highly recommend you to see Bricky's episode about all 18 Space Marine Chapters and to play Dawn of War RTS as well. Anyway hope you will be enjoying learning about 40k's lore in the future
Thank you so much for telling me more about the Tau. Sounds like there is a lot more to them, and I'm looking forward to learning more about the race and factions! I've got the video you mention from Bricky on my list. Really looking forward to seeing it! :D I did a quick Google Search and it looked like Dawn of War is a really old game? Is it a spesific version you think is good for me to start of with? Again, thank you so much for checking out the video, and for your comment!
@@OleHerland It depends of your preferanse. DoW 1 was made in more old rts style with staff like army commanding and building structures, also more focused on combat than resource management. DoW 2 from the other hand is like a mix of Diablo and Company of Heroes. It's just a matter of personal taste. I like both of them. However it's the first one that I grew up with, so for me it's more like a matter of nostalgia to be honest. There are also mods which makes the game even batter and people still playing it so definitely worth a try.
Just to precise, the Vespides and Kroots are not really a major part of the Tau Empire, it's just that they're the only auxillaries we know of, because they have their miniatures ^^ But there's a dozen or so other auxillaries races like the Nidarids or things like that that are mentionned but never developped.
I really dont like the "modern" tau, Back in Third Edition the Taus gimmick were that they had mechs ontop of having various Minor Alien races allied with them. that died out over the years and they dont have that flavor of a alliance of aliens holding it out from the Imperiums wrath
Thank you so much for your comment! Really interesting fact that I'm glad I now know! Sounds like that part was better before for sure 🤔 More fun with more alien races 👀
Fun Fact: Nurgle and Buddhism has the same bright side. Human fear death, Buddhism provide the teaching of accepting your mortality allow people to reach enlightenment and be at peace. Fun Fact 2: Chaos's symbol look awful a lot like Buddhism's Dharma wheel.
Trazyn The Infinite. When rest of Necrons is like "Take back our galaxy! Remove organic life!", Trazyn is like "War? What war? I'm building most epic museum here!" He woke up elier and decide to on his own become chronicler and safekeeper of galaxy. He will use his army, abilities and wits to do everything to get his hands on most significant artifacts and people. He have whole events closed in artifical time loops. Important characters (like original Krork, Thunder Warrior [proto-space marine, they get massacred on order of The Emperor after conquer of Terra], Castellan Crowe [last commander of Cadia], ideal clone of uncorrupted Primarch Fulgrim of Emperor Children and many more stuff... He is pretty chill compared to rest of his race.
Something bricky doesn't mention about Nurgle, is while he represents rot, he also represents life. When a body dies, it's broken down and gives life to plants. New life coming from death and corruption. A circle of life, if you will.
With the Necrons the more powerful a necron tyre was the more autonomy they retained that way the generals and Pharons (their version of commanders I think) could still lead their armies in some way
The Szarekh the Silent King wasn't the only one who retained his mind and personality, other high ranking Necrons like Necron Overlords retained their own minds and personalities too, but the lower ranked Necrons didn't and are still just mindless drones now controlled by the Necron Overlords. Which is very ironic because the Necron Overlords are doing the same thing to their own people what the Ctan/Star gods did to them using their own people as mindless slaves.
Crazy to think about. Really interesting that you are drawing parallels between the Catn/Star gods and the Necron Overlords. Basically just as horrible all of them 😅
The thing about the endar I never heared bricky say is that they could "respawn". They basically had a portal to the warp where if they died they could just come back. This explains a lot about how they made slaanesh because their debotchery just stayed in the warp and thats why they have a strange relationship with death.
Cegorach the laughing god is actually a pretty influential and scary god, i won't spoil but if you look into the lore you see how he has been influencing some things for quite some time
Wow, can't wait to learn more about that! Hope one of my future videos will touch on that more. I'm collecting a list of videos that I plan to react to, but for now I'm trying to ONLY learn through comments and the videos I watch. So you guys can see all of my progression :D Thanks for the comment!

I don't really know a huge amount about them but if the Eldar are space elves, the Leagues of Votann are space dwarfs. They also have a somewhat similar aesthetic to the Tau (very slightly). Not sure if there's a good video to recommend on them but just letting you know that they exist

Votann are xenos now? I thought they were humans that got seperated in the galactic core. Are they far enough removed to be counted as another species?

Nurgle also make everyone of his army feel beautiful and feel no pain. While they rot and fall apart, they see each other and themselves as beautiful and they feel happy and at peace. Thats why Papa Nurgle always loves you. Just another side of it.
Really liked your reaction videos about 40k, I'm kinda new to this universe too and it's just amazing the amount of content there is about it. I recently bought a starter set of the tabletop game, I don't plan to play but it's really entertaining painting them. On the subject of good and evil:
Matt Colville has a very good video on the matter.

However, they have mini versions of themselves that contain a tiny part of their sould and will fight for them ^^
Thank you so much for another great comment! 😍 Learning so much!
they can also interract with reality sometimes, like how khorne and nurgle have.

Aaaahhh thank you for your comment! That manes a lot more sense than having a character called Magnus The Nerd 🙈 Doesn't sound very Wharhammery 😂
You can hear a wolf in the distance shouting "NEEEEERD!. Woof. Woof. Woff."
Have a nice day ❤️
So nurgle is basically a fat woketard?
Orks man. Love em.
Orks really do have the best stories about their reality altering shenanigans.

Thank you so much! Really appreciate your comment 💯😍❤️
You should definitely check out luetin09's Tau video. Bricky does an ok job at giving a overview of most of the races, but really didn't touch on any of the Tau's lore which makes them seem like they don't fit the setting way more than they actually do.
The Drukhari make the torture movies like Saw, and Hostel, and Human Centipede, look tame.
M.a.d.n.e.s.s. 👀😅
Thank you for your comment!
@@duppady5319 imagine in alternative time where the Chaos God of Unbelief was born, i kinda wonder what the Daemons will look like
1:39:27 Yes, there is constantly new Lore, new stories - either in new books or new rule books. For Example, GW recently reintroduced the Leagues of Votann (formerly Squats, basically Space Dwarfs).

Okay, the question of: was it always like this;
No, before Humans, before Eldar, the warp was calm.

Thank you so much for your comment! I see, so their evil is just a bit "younger" in nature? Got a feeling their going to turn REAL bad in the future 👀
1:28:20 The king can control them, and no, all the necrons lost their souls, tho he turned it off Giving the more power neurons free will
The four Chaos Gods, like other prominent entities of the warp, do not literally manifest.
51:30 of course the norwegian dislikes the combination of blue and yellow.

Thank you so much for your comment and recommendation! Got it on my list, and can't wait to watch it 🤩
Arbitor Ians Horus Herasy Legions serie is by faaaaaar better
Its also more up to date, more accurate since Bricky has reseach almost all legion in detail, newest lore and more.
God's are like platonic ideals
Like if the warp is ware emotions, dreams and motivation exist.
Orcs are so cool!!! I love how they work. Thank you so much for your comment 🤩
Hey! And thank you so much for your kind words! 😍 Have it on my list, it's been heavily recommended so I can't wait to watch it! 😱
How big is the chaos god:
VERY big. Each god have a realm in the Warp and that reals is big on a galactic scale. The god IS that realm. Big skyscraper-sized guy sitting in a throne in the center of that realm is merely an avatar.
Wow, thank you for your comment and answering my question 😱 I'm starting to understand that things aren't as they seam to be when it comes to 40k 😅
Okay, the question of: do the chaos gods come out of their realm;
No, they are confined to their own section of the warp.
Anyways, thank you so much for answering. if one COULD go out, that would make for an epic story tho 👀
Hehe, makes sense! Can't take a stick and say it's a hand canon 😅 But the ability to wish things into working is a realy fun and cool concept!
@@OleHerland in general it does contribute to their effectiveness, but the power of the Waaagh! energy grows with the number of orks present, a big army in the millions will generally have bigger effects from warpaints and such, it also only affects orks and their tech
If you see Necrons attacking, the only defense is to pray. But you’d only be praying to gods the Necrons have already enslaved.
The four Major Chaos Gods in a nutshell:
Khorne: I hate you and everything you stand for, and that's the truth.
Tzeentch: We do a little trolling......Or do we? (VSauce theme plays)
Nurgle: Painfully optimistic nihilism
Slaanesh: What's a Safe Word?
Hahha, souch a good way of explaining. Thank you so much for your comment 😂
Balls
found your videos while looking for react videos to watch while painting an army for a friend, and I feel your excitement for this exactly mirrors my first time learning about 40k.
OH, wow, that is wild! Makes a lot of sense that how they are depicted varied a lot 🤔 Thank you for your comment!
@@OleHerland malaal is the chaos god of nihilism and his goal is to destroy chaos itself, a type of anti chaos god kinda like what is going on with the emperor slowly turning into the ACTUAL god of humanity thanks to all the worship he is recieving, or at least that is somewhat of what is hinted at
Few things about the Necrons:
All of them have still have their consciousness.
It goes like this:
'Orkses is never defeated in battle. If we win we win, if we die we die fighting so it don't count. If we runs for it we don't die neither, cos we can come back for annuver go, see!"
But as funny as they are, they have their terrifying moments as well.
Woow, that sounds like a really cool video! Thank you so much 😍
6:07 The Chaos Gods can't enter real space/the Materium.
Magnus The Nerd was really funny!
@@OleHerland
Well, the main problem is the Warp is a realm of thought and it’s questionable if they are actually intelligent beings instead of just concepts that forces rally under.
Iirc it wasn’t until Mankind learned of the Immaterium (warp) existence around the 17th/18th millennia and developed technology to be able to tear the fabric of real space to access the warp and use it for travel that things went south so to speak 😂
From then on with Mankind increasingly exposed to the warp and with the immense help of the Eldar as described in the video the stability of the Immaterium steadily broke down as the power and the influence of the pure chaos energy manifest grew.
If you want a little bit more insight into the races i would recommend the tempelin institute, baldermort and Luetin09.
Thank you so much for your recommendation Maguns! It's always great with your comments 🔥
Tempelin Institute i would advise against it, it just takes info from wiki or similar and just throw it in a video. spreading anomalies about the canon or not up to date with the codex.

Once Tyranid Hive Fleet attacked a planet infested by Nurgle and ofc Nurgle Chaos Marines.
But they don't know that the Blood God IS real and is able to hurt them, for them, Chaos is just a delusion that the heretics have invented to stop believing in the God-Emperor ^^
And as for a time before Chaos, there was a time where mankind didn't knew what Chaos was.
React to Azariah Kyras Speech from Dawn of War 2 Retribution! It's the most perfect summing up of Chaos (at least the Khorne side) I've ever heard.
I believe more detailed lore comes from books but i dont know for certain
for example with last update to rules we learned that chaos leader Abaddon with his new big daemon lord friend are trying to find some sort of artifact in big abandoned ship graveyard called arks of omen.
Thank you again!
idk if you see this or not but the orks thought each color have their own ability heres the list
red = fast/speed
blue = lucky
yellow = wealth
black = toughness
camo = sneaky/stealth
purple = complete invisibility
green = best color of them all
edit: Ork use teeth as currency yes teeth
44:23 died from their souls getting ripped out which happened instantly and slowly at the same time, her birth was extremely destructive
Thank you so much! 🤩 It's a bit intimidating in the start, because you never know what the group expects 🙈 Thank you for your comment!
I think it's going to be a lot better for both me and the viewers🤩
Oh, I've heard from the other comments that the lore get's updated when new games gets released. But I didn't know that it's every 3 years. Thank you!
The Chaos gods dont usually go out in battle, they are locked in eternal conflict with one another and the emperor of mankind, their avaters however are constantly in combat, or pranks in tzeenchs case
Remember, every faction has so many sub-factions, that you can paint your models any color scheme, and it might as well be canon.
Oh, there is! I guess that makes sense 😅 Thank you again for this and the other comment!
@@OleHerland Yeah, Warhammer 40K is first and foremost a miniature games, developped to sell miniatures, so GW will use any excuse imaginable to let people have their fun with how the models looks like ^^
Usually each faction has a dozen "official" painting schemes that can be used as inspiration, or reproduced, and then they'll tell you that you can create any colour scheme you want it doesn't matter ^^
Think of it this way. A God is only real because you believe in this God. Slaanesh was birthed because so many eldar thought naughty and depraved and all this was so concentrated in the worlds they lived in.
It distilled like alcohol until Slaanesh was completed and a concept became real
Papa Nurgle has enough room in his heart for all, embrace your grandfather
Then there's this guy who knows someone at the funeral home...
the chaos gods are like the emperor they controll their subjects with their minds, The emperor constantly has mind battles against all 4 of them
Slanesh is basicly Bipolar times a hundred xD
Uuh, that is really epic!
The people at the beginning of the video - Slaanesh things are cool.
People after watching part of the Dark Eldar - .....nope.
TRUE, that really fucked me up. Brain = fried. Need to recuperate after that 🤪
The topic of when the chaos gods appeared is a complex one to answer for time has no meaning in the warp so while the chaos gods do have specific times they appeared they simultaneously appeared at all times and have thus always existed
very glad to see the second episode of this series. keep up the good work
Thank you so much! You comment means a lot ❤️Can't wait to dive deeper into the universe with you guys!
I did a quick Google Search and it looked like Dawn of War is a really old game?
Just to precise, the Vespides and Kroots are not really a major part of the Tau Empire, it's just that they're the only auxillaries we know of, because they have their miniatures ^^
But there's a dozen or so other auxillaries races like the Nidarids or things like that that are mentionned but never developped.
Whhooooot, so my hunch was kind of correct in a way?! That is wild. Thank you so much for your comment. Made my day 😍
Trazyn The Infinite.
With the Necrons the more powerful a necron tyre was the more autonomy they retained that way the generals and Pharons (their version of commanders I think) could still lead their armies in some way
Cool! Thank you for your comment! 🤩
@@OleHerland no problem, always happy to help, when covid hit i stumbled upon warhammer lore, i am mostly adept in warhammer fantasy lore but 40k lore is also one of my interests, though i am a fantasy guy at heart 40k has really cool lore
Should mention that this video is now missing a xenos 40k faction. The Leagues of Votann were introduced fairly recently. I don't really know a huge amount about them but if the Eldar are space elves, the Leagues of Votann are space dwarfs. They also have a somewhat similar aesthetic to the Tau (very slightly). Not sure if there's a good video to recommend on them but just letting you know that they exist
Thank you so much for another awesome comment! Either I've sneak peaked at your comment without answering, or someone else mentioned Space Dwarfs as well. Sounds epic, and can't wait to learn more about them 🤩
@@OleHerland They're basically hardcore survivalists. They go from planet to planet mining all the resources they need to keep their Votann (hyperadvanced AI that holds all of their knowledge) up and running, and if the locals of said planets resist, well, they just put themselves on the League's shitlist.
@@OleHerland it is good to assume, that brickis video is pretty dated on the lore by now.
Votann are xenos now? I thought they were humans that got seperated in the galactic core. Are they far enough removed to be counted as another species?
@@tartarustrommler5454 naah, they are abhumans. They are catogirized xenos because they arent part of the imperium. Basically xenos is now anything that aint imperium or chaos.
Every edition that comes out the faction rules also changes, so that is what he means by factions getting better or worse.
Thank you so much for your comment! I'm starting to understand more and more how things fit together 👀 So much new information at once 🤯
@@OleHerland just take it easy brother because there's a lot of thing you're going to learn about the world and the hobby. Also just a suggestion if you want to play the table top game start with the kill team format it's less expensive and faster to play you don't have to commit alot of money to it.
Was there a time before knowledge of the warp? Yes. You're living in it brother.
Oooooooooh damn! 😅😱 That's scary 😅👀
My favorite race is the Tyranids, I think they are the only race that is not evil, they just want to survive, killing and consuming other life beings but not with malicious intent.
Hey! Thank you so much for checking out my video, and I love that you are also new!
It's SO much to explore and understand. But I just love it so much already!
Really cool that you bought that. I want to get some models myself!
I haven't thought about that before, but it makes sense. They arnt really evil, just surviving 🤔
Thank you for your comment!
