The fuel cap needs to be installed so that a any spillage flows overboard instead of the inside of the boat. Reason? Fuel vapors and ka-boom factor. It’s a regulatory requirement.

Other people have pointed this out to me also. Thank you for the info. I will convert it back when I get to that part of the project. Thanks

I think it’s a good idea were you want to put it but think you should put a drain pipe in for water and fuel to escape maybe you already thought of that though

I have been told by a few people that Im messing up by wanting to put the fuel fill behind the ladder. They say fumes can settle down in the back of the boat and be hazardous. Im probably gonna put it back like it was even though I dont really like it that way. Thank you for watching and commenting! I appreciate it! 🍻

Totally agree with the post below. It is not just a good idea, it is mandatory by safety standards to have a stationary tank fill outside of the hull as any spillage into the hull will create fuel vapour in the bilge and not just a fire but a potential explosion hazard. Make sure you have a proper bilge blower installed and run for 5 minutes before filling and continuously while underway. The Fill must have a wire to the tank to ground it, and lastly touch the nozzle to the metal fill cap before opening to bleed off static at the tank. I pumped gas in my younger days and had at least 3 fires from static sparks. A fairly minor thing on cars at a gas station with a functioning extinguisher. It can be a total deadly disaster on a boat!

This is great info. I totally planned on putting an engine box fan to suck out fumes, there was one on the old box cover but it was froze up. Ive always been told if you have an inboard you always have to open the box and let it air out for awhile before you start it. This is my first inboard boat and Im learning as I go thanks to yall. I appreciate it! Thanks for watching and commenting

Great job bud, will look fantastic all cleaned up, and I bet you will keep the little 4 cylinder motor on it.

Hello Zach, I hope that's your name; if not I'm sorry. About that fuel fill I'm pretty sure it should stay out over the water and not inside where your deck is. Not meaning to insult your intelligence. If fuel gets spilled on the fiberglass it could cause staining and of course the fire hazard. I know back when I had a fiberglass boat, I'd noticed that sometimes it would have a static charge when say something plastic like a bag would be on the floor and the sides of the bag would cling to the fiberglass. Looking good on the houseboat project. I just stumbled on your UA-cam channel.

Hey thats great advice Randy! Thank you for the heads up. :) I will probably spin the tank back around then. I have plenty of more work to do to it though. I need to get back out there and continue working on it. Thank you so much for watching and commenting on my videos. 🍻

Glad to be of help Zack. Liking your boat videos. I live in Arkansas and I know what you mean about that humid weather and those pop up storms are kinda show stopping.
