    My wife and I will be in this neighborhood for 5 weeks this coming May, yeah! The Airbnb is right around the corner of that Lider restaurant. We have been following your channel for a while, last year we spent a month in Coimbra, and this year Porto. Your channel is SOOOOOO informative and this serious is no exception. Because of you, we are also seriously thinking about moving to Portugal in the future. Look forward to visiting Porto soon

    I'm with you, things look a lot more inviting now that Winter is past and the trees are out. Looking forward to seeing more. Oh, and the house at 3:27 would be wonderful to have when fully restored. That caught my eye immediately. Sort of reminds me of houses I'd see along the costal South of the U.S., like in Charleston or Beaufort or Savannah.

      John, we completely agree. When we were walking around, I knew exactly when I wanted to use this shot and all because it needs work, has huge potential, and also reminds me of the South. It's really hard to know what's going on with these building and exactly why they're in the state they're in. - Josh (& Kalie)

    Hey you guys need to start to find the "tradicional tascas", where the locals go eat at lunch time from work. Where in some places is the most tradicional portuguese food and one plate is enough for the family and never going to cost more than 6€ with the cheap (but taste wine from local farms) and a coffee.

    Jardim de Arca dÁgua is actually named Praça 9 de Abril, after the battle of La Lys in 1918. Portugal had fought till the end at the side of the Allies.
    Arca de Água refers to a water supply that flows via a tunnel to Praça dos Leoes and feeds the great fountain there. The tunnel was open to visits untill 2007, but was closed due to "safety reasons".

    • @jmbpinto73
      @jmbpinto73 3 роки тому

      I don't know your criteria, but i wouldn't mix Arca d'Agua with Marques, Arca d'Agua is part of the northernmost Paranhos, newly urbanized with the universities, while Marques has an older character and nearest to the center of the city. Just my opinion. Cheers!

    Thank you for making Porto neighborhoods a near-term focus. I have booked a scouting trip for September and already secured Airbnb in Matosinhos for the Porto area stay, but intend to explore broadly throughout the greater Porter region (south of the river as well). If the stars, consulate, realtors, and tax accountants align, I could be strolling down the streets of Porto come January--armed with an umbrella, of course! It's also helpful when locals comment from their experience, adding to what Kalie and Josh present. Muito obrigado!

    Hello, I lived in Marques for a month in July 2020 and I hated it. This beautiful church rings its very loud bells every 15 minutes from 9am to 9pm. Let me tell you that it is very annoying if you live close-by 🙄 And the park is very depressing mostly homeless people. At night it is not a secure neighborhood due to many drug addicts. Also I was bitten by small insects at night, very painful and they are not deterred by anything 😢 So Marques is definitely not my choice. But Bonfim is definitely on my list when I move from Santo Ildefonso which is a nice neighborhood but too touristic. Thanks for all those infos on Porto. I love this city 💙 ❤ 😍

    • @ExpatsEverywhere
      @ExpatsEverywhere  3 роки тому

      Hey Helene, you're certainly right about living too close to the church. We had friends that lived a few buildings away from the church and from their back garden, you should see and hear the church. Inside their apartment wasn't as noticeable. The plaza definitely gives off a different vibe now, but it's still not at nice as plazas in say Braga. Thanks for watching our videos. We love this city too! - Josh & Kalie
