It has been funny to see people defend AGS' decision to remove the possibility to track server populations, because they think that accurate information may harm the game's profitability. it's easy to understand why *employees of a company* would have that mindset, but advocating for the company as a player (rather than advocating for other players) is truly bizarre. Their logic doesn't even hold up, because those same people are quick to point to the population chart from the Open Beta champion the game's comeback; a chart that could only be created using the data that we no longer have. They aren't actually concerned about people mis-using data, they just don't like when data reflects poorly on the game.
im not surprised by amazon hiding numbers. All the big corpos hide their numbers for streaming services too, same with other game companies who have their own platforms. but i agree it's shady and gets rid of transparency, especially when the consumer wants to see if its worth getting into an MMO or not because the game population matters.
We get our hands on those numbers regardless of if they show them or not and especially in AGS's case, transparency might actually save them from themselves.
They dont want to show low player count when it doesnt take into account console players. I totaly understand it, to many takes steam player count as a standpoint on how many players playing.
They are doing the same thing has blizzard did with wow a decade ago. Its to make sure people dont know for sure how many players are active, so people cant just show numbers and argue around it. For them its a win because they can lie about player numbers, for us its a loss because we are gonna get lied to. I'm used to it tho its ags and they are scummy
Aim assist and target lock are very different. We currently have an aim assist on controller. Target lock is qhat makes you follow the players around and if they're close its insane. That's what needs to be removed
turning off the server data could be a way of helping servers preserve their populations that are experiencing depletions of populations (i.e., US West server to an US East server) during this hurry up and wait until October 15th.
With sharding it tends to take away the concept of player count. I can just shard an area they need to. Also, i would imagine ags will provide a very busy indicator when picking a server. Since the player count is an accumulation of all shards currently active... For the "server"
I agree 100% with hiding this information. I had many friends who stopped playing simply because the number varied, from 2500 to 2000 some stopped, from 2000 to 1700 some more stopped. I think this information has a negative impact on the player base.
the fortnite aim assist is a different page tho: fortnite became literally unplayable with a controller, you cannot compete against m&k right now, so they are forced to improving it without breaking it - that's why they are trying to introduce a different aim asssit that doesnt' react instantly when people side step (cod should take notes here)
I liked seeing the server player counts because ig helped me choose a low population server for farming materials. Less contention for resources. It just sucked with PvP hordes and bots farming mats 24x7 to get their GS up or crafting BIS. So, not sure how I feel about this going away, even thoigh6I understand why AGS did it.
also, when i think about the past, a few top NW employes have been made to look stupid, cuz we could see the data from the nwdb.. even just small things, like when some said how much they play, only to see they play on the deadest server f.e. we the PC community have called out to many embarrassing things from AGS over the years, or just shown their issues n stuff. i remember last year being apologies in each video from AGS.. with the promise of the future (secrets) only to find out they are now moving to and focusing on a new customer group. console kiddies will be much easier to manage. and prolly also jsut quit, when its bad, where as we PC community have been working towards getting the game we know NW could have been. imo., this oppressive aimbot and lock on, is also just one of the steps, to turn away the PC community. and protect their new customer base, from having a "bad expierence" due to more skilled PC players in pvp etc.. specially since many PC are hoping for that as one lil nice thing..ha
I personally see not showing player count especially concurrent player count as a good thing. It seems people have these fear of "Playing a dead game" when in reality most games arnt actually dead and by not showing player counts I think removes that as a whole and I think alot of players have a unrealistic standard of concurrent players and it should be that huge massive number when most games just wont ever have that. We need to stop glorifying playing count as a way to decided whether a game is good or not it is a flawed, a great example of this is the people saying Palworld is a dead game because the concurrent player base fell off because everyone completed the game, Its a flawed mindset
Duke less info is better for this kind of games.....lots of ppl ask if ppl playing and when they get Que, they goin berserk! So less info is good for NW! We are considerably better. I find OPR, farm and practically everything I need.
If you think about it, more games should do this, THINK ABOUT IT, how many people out there check the playerbase numbers of the game they play and if they are not great or going down slightly THEY TOO QUIT THE GAME, they could have been having a decent time in a game but because they see some graphs going down they give up on the game as well.
This is a common thing because Sony and Microsoft don't give companies easy access to this information. Crazy you are immediately blaming new world for it. Console has never really been privy to this information because console players aren't obsessed with these numbers. Instead of embracing the new wave of popularity this game is about to have the og streamers are just trying to drag it down.
I do not mind it all, i think its better. Players have lack of understanding about peaks during content launches. And that alot of players take more seasonal approaches. As a veteran player i absolutly prefer it. Since the "x game is dead" im tired of. I feel that would be better estimated by being in the game and "feeling" if its empty However i do share your point about players not seeing how many there are on each server, for the selection. If new world implement a "High/medium/low" pop info on the server selection, that would be good enough for me
Why do a lot of people go on such a witch hunt and dissect every little change that AGS does... I honestly feel like hiding the player count is a good thing for them. It gets people away from paying attention to how many people are on a server and instead, just playing the game if they enjoy it at the end of the day. Back in the early 2000s, no one cared about what gaming studios did. We were too busy laughing, staying up late, and just enjoying a game for what it was. I just don't get today's culture. Just my opinion though so it is what it is
Just watch them announce that API got 'broken' by sharding implementation and was not intended, however they cannot provide any ETAs about when and if it's going to be fixed.
if amazon does something anti new world it's going to be anti new world news. if they do something good for new world it will be...not anti new world news? it's an information channel, not dukes fault the information is "anti new world" lmao
Get a grip both of you. I would rather hear the crap than it being sugar coated by deluded YTers trying to keep their career relative. AGS drop the ball time and again yet you guys will still be there on your knees

@@JakobEslinger I believe it is good because the number is arbitrary and unrelated to if an individual will enjoy the game or not. Rather than making a decision on whatever number a player deems "good", the player will instead make their decision on their experience with the game.

the dumbest comment, game population really matters, if you don't want to waste 2 hours queuing for Mutations.. etc etc
The total server population was available and public knowledge when the Open Beta was still going

its true, downward turns so obvious make you evaluate whether you should continue to invest
I agree
Cause if game dead no reason to play.
I want to know if a game is dead and yes that will determine if I want to continue to play.
For free to play, maybe. But for a buy to play, its normal for consumers to want to know if the product is good or not before buying , no?
