Love the message here, Samuel. However, while Craft gets you to walk the walk, Storytelling packages the message properly. But to develop the message, you need Product Sense. All those 3 together, done well, creates a concrete foundation for your influence.
Couldn’t have been said any better. I believe product sense is a huge part of storytelling as a story is incomplete if it doesn’t address user and business needs. I am sure that’s somewhere in the video.
Really appreciate that you mentioned needing to be intentional about influence. This is definitely an area i know I can work on as a designer over the 3 year mark. Ironically i think storytelling is consistently my highest stat.
7 years as a designer, specifically in branding and websites, but I'm now looking to transition into UX/UI so i'm going to rate myself in reflection of this. Craft - 6-7 Storytelling - 3-4 Influence - 2 There's definitely a lot of work to be done haha
oh goshhh I tried to put these down, I couldn't. I reviewed so many portfolios of "UX" designers.. I'm honestly sick of this term "UX. So many portfolios just list of things they did. I can explain this well now! thanks for sharing :)
AMAZING VIDEO! Thank you for sharing and inspiring us! I was feeling very low about my career and this gave me some to think about, and actually feeling a little better. Wish you the best :)
Thanks so much for this information. My main issue here as a newbie designer is my lack of communication skills which I have been battling with for quite several time now. I need help with this issue.

craft. 3, storytelling 0, influence -1. I guess, I'm not ready to show myself yet. I tried to with all those workshops and etc. but I decided to learn on my pace until I get solid skills. and, looking at your video made me reflect. yes, a lot of people have more charisma than me and will have a good job on the industry sooner than me, I'm a dev going to design. a generalist who likes to learn everything, to think on ideas and put them actively on the world. but, as though I see myself in the future as a "UX Engineer". I'm neither a great developer nor a designer yet. I'm currently just the "I make websites that don't sore your eyes". and, well. I know it's kinda underwhelming. but, it's my moment now. do I have any idea how to change this game? not yet, I don't have the experience yet, the only thing I can do is to improve my craft. I'll try not to be a "celebrity" suffering from dunning krueger who just made 1 or 2 bootcamps and is already selling a course. I'm not that kind of person. I'm honest to a fault. Until I get really good at my craft. I'll be patient and do what I choose to do with my life. for now, pushing some pixels around. let's see what the future holds to me. but for now, no, I'm not ready to face the world.
I am really impressed by your ability to self reflect honestly. It’s a really strong personality trait that will take you really far. I think you have a unique set of skills and believe me when I say I am Jealous. The role of the design engineer is getting popular and in demand as companies are looking to close the gap between design and development. This is a huge advantage for you and It can help you become influential. I wish you all the best.
Cool, let’s get that story telling up first. You can start with volunteering to do a lot more presentations at work and outside work and make sure you tell a relatable story each time.
Be specialist outside for indemand & be generalist inside for superior relevance; identify your defination and cross combine within the same transferable route.
Interesting. Are you rating yourself by global standards? I mean if you score yourself 9 in craft, it means you can compete with a designer at Apple or Netflix. Honestly, Can you compete?
Hey Samuel Fabayo, really nice video ! I was wondering if I could help you with Best Quality Editing in your videos better than your Editor with good pricing and also make a highly engaging Thumbnail which will help your videos to reach to a wider audience ? Pls let me know what do you think ?

Can you give an example of how you believe you’ve communicated badly?
