Designers are ditching Figma for this new tool!
In this video, I spoke about why designers are ditching figma for a new open source tool called Penpot. I compared both tools and rated them by 5 factors on a scale of 1-10. One of the topics compared is Figma's CONFIG and Penpot's PENPOT FEST.

You should compare Lunacy with Figma and Penpot. Lunacy is free and it has a desktop app. But it's not open source.
Penpot is cool, but Figma and Lunacy are better. I hope Penpot gets more improvement soon, because it's still lacks a lots of things.
Penpot Tutorial
The world will ditch designers in a few years.
every 4 days something new comes WTF!!
I really wish it was a desktop application I could download and use offline
Penpot tutorials, please. Thanks for asking 😄
Damn, Samuel, thanks so much for doing this...another lodge to look outside the Figma box.
Penpot Tutorial 🙏
then lets shift to penpot and make it a prime tool for the future.
Integrate Framer + Figma features to Penpot and it will be amazing!
I thought the deal with Adobe was dead
Yep it is. It’s covered in the video.
Love the video, I didn't know there was a free & open source Figma alternative. I'll have to test it out. A Penpot Tutorial would be amazing to see.
Thanks for shearing. I am now still looking for a new job in Germany. It's been 5 months now. I just found your video. They are really inspiring Thanks :)
Figma is much better and more recommended for many reasons. 🔥
Really nice video ! I have my eyes on Penpot since day one and when I heard about the move that Adobe made on Figma I was like more into Penpot. I have to say it's nice, as a customer, to have a choice, a little competition is always good. Also regarding Adobe / Figma, Adobe just cancelled the acquisition of Figma for now so let's see what happens next !
Thanks for sharing you thoughts. PenPon Tutorial, please?
Adobe Figma deal is off already.
It’s there in the video.
@@samuelfabayo1370 I've meant "Boycotting Adobe" thing. That's not a reason to ditch Figma
@@atakann the announcement of the deal with Adobe was how they gained most of their early users.
Love it!!!!!!!!!!!
Hey man, how's it going? It's been a while since we've heard from you
Very well edited, and clearly explained, you have a lot of potential for growth as a channel
Thank you for the recommendation! I've checked it out and they do alot of the things you need it to, such as components, global colours and typography, inspection tools etc but i'm speaking as someone that does both design and development on a freelance level. My biggest reason for wanting to explore other options is not to do with price but the constant push towards your work feeding the ai models. Figma sent me an email to say that they want use our projects to feed their ai models but you can opt out if you want (they definitely saw the backlash that adobe received and approached the issue better)
Gold!
Oh if penpot doesn't sell out.. It will for sure be an industry standard.. Compare to blender 3d... Adobe is beginning to feel too important, I mean, you own someone's intellectual property? Are you kidding me? It's just like a DAW company saying they own a song and voice of an artist cause they used and tweaked their voice using their plugins. It's crazy.. I actually discovered penpot a while a go... And just started navigating it recently just cause I already had other tools I work with over the years that isn't figma. But going fully into interface design, I'm been drawn towards penpot as I'm not a big fan of adobe and don't use a lot of their tools, I think only figma actually.
it's gonna be penpot right
yep
At the end of a developing cycle, you will find out that Paint is the only tool you need. Be simple, be happy.
need to give it a try
How did you know designers are ditching Figma?
Penport
Great comparison bro! New fan from Kenya. My case is a bit odd. I finally ditched Webflow for Framer early 2023 and in a few months I found myself using Figma less and less - and thus I had no use for the likes of Penpot. I now design exclusively in Framer. Though in all fairness I no longer do product design work, plus I have decades of experience so it’s easy for me to go from wireframes to Framer. I am however happy to see Penpot grow and make waves against the Goliath’s of our industry… no matter how small.
Took me a whole day to get to this video but this is very helpful. will definitely start using Penpot for Personal projects.
Penpot is a joke right now compared to figma.
great video chief ✨ Did you record this before Config and the new features? 😂 (As someone who likes webflow, I think the Figma scores should be higher)
The adobe deal got cancelled right?
Yes it did.
How did get Penpot get a for being free? are you scared to give a 10? loool Good video though bro
10 is such a perfect score. Guess I don’t trust penpot not to pull some pricing tricks in the future. Thanks
@@samuelfabayo1370 I guess lol
You cant seriously be saying that FIgma is getting expensive for freelance designers at $14 per month FOR YOUR MAIN TOOL. If you can't afford that then honestly you should look for another job, you wont even be able to eat
You might be speaking from a place of privilege and that’s understandable. Where I am originally from the minimum wage per hour is 7 cents. Not everybody has the same purchasing power as Americans and Europeans
14 dollars is more than 0 dollars. However, for $14 you get the same stripped-down functionality, normal features start at the more expensive plans, but they are enterprise. If you are an individual, then you can get by with free figma for now, but they limit it with each update (at the same time they say that they have added functions lol). Penpot is free and already has functionality that Figma does not have even on paid plans. For example, a grid system and fewer bugs, and native Tokens Studio functions will appear soon (figma still doesn’t know how to do design systems)
@@HeresAsvgWhat the fuck do you mean by grid system? Figma doesn't have grid system?? Are u drunk or something
@@samuelfabayo1370 rightfully said👍
Speaking as a developer that studied enough design, UX principles and accessibility: for my own projects I couldn’t find any advantage in using Figma before coding. Using react, tailwind css and storybook I create my component design systems while doing design studies and prototypes. I only need low-fi wireframes to validate every use case and UX decisions, then why I should lose more time in Figma just for a high fidelity design? The 30% of developers who use Figma are forced to by their team, not willing to I suspect..
Once Adobe owns anything, you need to switch.
Adobe doesn’t own Figma. There wasn’t a deal between them. And Figma is still better then these doubtful analogies 🥱
@@paulnicholas8789and Figma got a 1B break up fee
@@paulnicholas8789that's good, but my point still holds. If Adobe buys a company its better if you opt out unless you don't want fall under their greedy hands while they steal your work for their Ai.
Why?
Oh yes! Please any kind of tutorial would be awesome
Thank you friend for this video ❤
I've been considering the switch for a while now, but like you, when I first tried out Penpot, I found that a lot of my figma knowledge didn't exactly translate the way I thought it would. But whatever, I'm happy to relearn something for the benefits that Penpot clearly offers in the handoff department (retrospectively, it's kinda crazy how much of an afterthought developers are in Figma). However, after digging around a little more, I never pulled the trigger due to its lackluster support for design systems in its workflow. So I'll be keeping a close eye on it in the coming years. I have no doubt that for a lot of use cases designing with developers in mind and haveing a tool that supports that instead of actively working against you is ultimately the direction we should be moving in as an industry.
Thanks for this. Penpot tutorial
Egbon much appreciated 🙏🏿
