After seeing a bit of a bend in my Imax 2000, I decided to take it down and re-try the SD-27 Dipole, with a few good contacts thrown in for good measure .
I made a video of mine years ago, not many vids on this antenna but I had great experiences with this antenna mounted horizontally on a rotor motor. 73
Ive done 2 videos on this now, but would be difficult to get it horizontal, if I had a rotar might be a good idea as I like talking locally as well as on the DX. Cheers
Hey Al, Great Video, and enjoyed your hard work, my friend. Looks great and works great. Most an excellent installation and really happy to hear from you and see the station working. Great Contact with Darren. Our contact was fantastic and Happy to hear your station really doing better and your Modulation much better. Always appreciate the ability to test our stations on the air at 5K+ Klm. Again great contact and the best out of the many I have had with you and the conditions were not the best. Most enjoyable video. Drew
Thank you Drew, im always trying to make my station the best it can be and was amazed how well you heard me. Looking good for now anyway, but no doubt ill try something else in the future. Got my eyes on an astro plane. All the best as always 👍🏻🍻
Just watching your show of the trouble you are in, you think they would just let you put one Arial on the roof and be done. Just moved myself and thought I had problems, hope to hear you one day , but I’ve still got to get my Arial up to so. Great show big problems. Cheers again AkA Night owl from Luton 🍻👍
Cheers buddy I did a video recently on why I cant get up there and im sure if conditions allow that we can make a contact. Always great fun on the radio take care and best 73.
Your 1/2 wave dipole is working a treat for you Al , was coming into the remote 25km N/West DOHA QATAR 🇶🇦 really good , Glad it's working for you, Enjoy your weekend m8 , De 115/163OP110/R De 115/163KPI110/R 👍👍👍👍👍👍
I just bought one for ten meters. Tuned up good even in the CB/11meter side as well. Tried it out with my RCI 2950 and it got out good for only 10' above my deck. About 22 feet above ground. Should be putting it up on the house soon. Thanks for the review.
Cheers bud it certainly seems to be working well on both ground wave and the DX, but I think its because it more away from the building, I'm certainly pleased with it so far.
Great video Al and really interesting seeing you setup the dipole up. seems to be working well. Against the building it looks fine to me. Keep banging out the Radio waves Al Rocking radio
Cheers buddy it really seems to be doing well on both the ground wave and DX , it gets very interesting using different antennas here, but it ends up with more questions than answers. Ill keep at it Cheers
Another good video Al. Watched on my lunch break inbetween DX contacts into Bulgaria, Israel and Russia on my QRP rig from the car. Legal FM power. Need to get an antenna up at home but got problem neighbours, curtain twitchers who complain about owt. Should probably put up a beam for shits n giggles.
LOL yeah do it , no one seems to bother me with it here and there are another 49 residents , although most of them don't have a clue what radio is , as always bud thanks and have a great wkend 🙂
Hi Al, there used to be a station close to me that stayed in a tower block who used all manner of expensive verticals, however he also came to the conclusion that a Sirio half wave dipole produced the best results in his situation. His balcony was south east facing so he got out well into Europe, however he eventually fitted a second dipole out of a bedroom window which gave him coverage to the south west which got him over stateside. He initially had them on a switch, but I believe he also experimented with co-phasing them as well 👍🏻
Yep ive been talking to a few people who say I should try co phasing, I do have a recieve antenna on the north side of the building which I did a video on, strangely i dont get hardly any noise on the north side. It can be damn odd living here. Cheers
@@Al.26TC101 my understanding is that for co-phasing to work well you need identical antennas and the same length of feed line to each. It’s worth a bash I’d say 👍🏻
Hi its a housing association who own the block and believe me when I say I had fight on my hands to let them let me have an antenna up, they didn't even know what a CB was for a start. Long story. Cheers.
After trying out the 2 antennas well what seems to be working best for me is the dipole, but sometimes its more about location and what you can do, not that the imax is a bad antenna, the dipole just seems to work better for me and Yes i do believe the imax is DC grounded.
No it dosnt cause any interference and ive got a recieve antenna on the other side of the building, i have done a video on how that works aswell it is a struggle , but i can be heard on the opposite side . but the flat does cause a blocking effect . ua-cam.com/video/OlBgsm2mVyo/v-deo.html
dang... used to have one of those way back in the day lol... good ol' a-99... just got one of those for 10m over here, used to run one on top of the roll cage on my vitara back in the 90s lol.... doubt the club is still going, but used to be 26-CD-31 or something like that back in brum. good to see cb still going good.. guess you still have the issues of the morons playing music on 19 :D... we used to hang out on 33 mid what was the anytone radio the us station was running you know?

@@Allthingsradio Hoping to, will have to see as life has a habit of getting in the way sometimes. Ill try and remember to put a message in my community post if I am.
I think it looks better than the IMAX and it should work better because of its offset from the building. It’s a pity you can’t get something on the top of the building Alan. Greetings from Jim in Hinckley 👍🏼
Cheers Jim I like it, and getting some good reports, although sounds like John on the TC net is a little bit lower to me, but so far seems to be out performing the imax. Time will tell.
My first CB antenna was a Di-pole made from copper conduit pipe, way back in 1981, homw brew on wood and bamboo .......Dave 26AT025

It blends in well, if it works, keep it there. The fewer people notice it, the better.
Cheers bud im pretty happy with how its working. Quite liking it alot.
Very nice ! A shootout between the Imax and dipole would be very nice. Switching back and forth between the with an antenna switch ;-)
Would be a great idea only problem being I dont have alot of room on the balcony for more antennas, but might give it a go in the future. Cheers.
Thanks again for the vid mate.Which do you prefer, the dipole or the Imax? Out of interest is the Imax DC grounded?

How does it proform
Very well , not sure it out performs a 5/8th wave but certainly does the job.
Anything below 1.5 is Brill and anything below 2 is usable
SWRhas a sweet spot in some cases, but its quite weird here living in this apartment block i just keep trying and one day I'll crack it maybe.
