I bought the Backbone PS5, tried it out, and almost immediately boxed it up to return. Product feels extremely solid. Very well made and feels premium. Worked great with my iPhone 12 Pro Max in terms of input lag (next to none). But after trying out a few games, I determined the controls are just simply too small for my hands. It’s not a 1:1 size ratio of a standard controller, and they ever so slightly changed the button layout to the point where muscle memory no longer applies. Worth noting though that the first year is free, and you’ll only get charged a year later when the subscription renews. Biggest problem with the backbone is that it requires a subscription in order to use all its features. I dont know if that's ironic, it's not like Sony has ever supported its phones beyond the bare minimum. If anything, this fits in perfectly with the narrative.
Sony never support their fans, ever use a Playstation Move? Or a PS Vita? Live outside the US and want to buy an affordable console? Xperia Play owners, anyone? I no longer buy their hardware.
I don’t like that the left stick is still farther up. I was hoping the PlayStation version would switch the left stick and d-pad to make it like the DualSense, but unfortunately not
Honestly I always thought our phones were on par with what a modern gaming handheld would be. They just got to make good games that don’t revolve around monetizing everyone.
One thing you missed to mention, the remote play app needs to be updated. Make those side bars fully black and allow us ratio options Sony! On android there’s PS Play a 3rd party $7 app. That allows ratio options and the bars are fully black. Here they improved the iOS app but those grey bars on the side put me off and I’m sure I’m not the only one.

Well of course. It's not a streaming option like with Xbox's Xcloud bundled along side Gamepass. It's just a simple free app that allows you to stream gameplay straight from your console

4:09 Definitely some latency there, but not too bad. I've not had the best luck with the PS4 Remote played on the iPhone 7. It started out nice, but then had input lag, and drop in visual fidelity.
Why everyone is putting phone incorrectly, I don't understand, you have to place left side first then right to not damage port. it's not easy to damage iPhone's port, but why you have to torture either iPhone or Controller when you can place it correctly.

So, while playing remotely the console will turn on and probably the television as well? For instance, when playing away from home.
Yes
That's assuming you have that feature on then yes
Looks great for emulation, shame you have to jailbreak iOS devices to do that.
Why'd they shaft the android market with the majority of the market share? I thought they liked money given their price hike with the PS5.
This thing is fantastic. I’ve been setting up my iPad to play remotely and, though it works great, isn’t as freely mobile as this setup. If you use remote play at all, get one.
This would be awesome but remote play on mobile is god awful
Ipad 12 inch is good
Because you have a shit phone
Ya not worth it cause of lag
Not for me, I have an Android REVVL 6 PRO and it runs pretty good
@@j-dogthebeast978 I have a Samsung fold 3 and always lags
Got one and I love it comes in handy when I’m at family functions lol
Biggest problem with the backbone is that it requires a subscription in order to use all its features. The backbone app and even being able to connect to iPad and Mac requires a $50/year subscription. Meanwhile you can get the same thing with Razer Kishi V2 and it doesn't have a subscription requirement to use fully.
Seriously
I hate that. I got mine early enough that they gave me the lifetime sub but I still feel like those who weren't there early enough were ripped off. It's something that needs to go
I receive mine yesterday and is awesone is a good purchase and coming with 1 year of backbone app account
After yesterdays showcase. Cant believe Sony are now copying this
So do you have to buy backbone plus to get that screen with the PlayStation and Xbox options?
This was a wonderful review. Comprehensive and clear, no gimmicks. Thank you for this, I’m off to buy one!
Thank you, I appreciate that!
@@SpawnPoiint
Hey OP
Thought you should check out my about profile in my channel thought it might be of interest and help
@@SpawnPoiint just a question do I need Wi-Fi for my backbone and does my ps5 needs to be powered or on rest mode for the backbone to work ?
I bought one about 2 weeks ago, loving it when I’m not home. I take it everywhere.
How do you get it to work when you’re not home?
@@amye.9732 you set the ps5 to remote play, link your app with the code it gives you, and make sure you select on the app on your phone to connect using cellular data or WiFi. It also works best if your console is connected via cat6 cable
Will remote play work with physical disc games or only digital download games from PS5 store?@@cherob1984
Please answer?
Back Bone PS5 - it's interesting that I don't have an iPhone nor a PS5 but love this so much. I'd like to see how it fits with the biggest iPhone because the screen size has always been a negative for me for iPhones. This controller would be sweet for a 7-8 " tablet
This is the biggest iPhone, this was the 13 Pro Max.
@@SpawnPoiint hi good afternoon is the remote play working in new I phone 14 pro 😊 ?
I bought Back bone and I’ve been using it for a while now and playing Resident Evil Village on iOS I am loving the game and the backbone I feel like backbone feels more comfortable in your hand more than a joy con to be honest and that u don’t need to buy tons all this accessories on backbone to play comfy it’s just Perfect for me so I’ll give a 10 out of 10 on backbone feels definitely good on your hand and the buttons too are so great I would to love see Switch 2 like this year 2024
I find it so ironic that Sony partnered with Backbone to make a controller that works with iPhones, but not their own Sony phones.
The 7 people that have a Sony phone won't really mind.
@@gnoclaude7945 I know more than 7 people that have Sony phones.
@@The_Prizessin_der_Verurteilung I live outside of USA and I got the console (last year) at an affordable price (MSRP).
I don’t think the games monetize people but ok
It's remote play (streaming). The games are run on your ps5.
The highest end phones might be on par with last gen base consoles. Never gonna be as strong current gen unless its a switch.
Do you still need l have this? I was thinking about getting it.
Awesome!! Nice review. I will buy it
"The portable PS5"
Guy says you need the actual console.
Me: visible confusion. I mean, I thought this purchase was supposed to be an affordable moble option.
iPhone aren't good enough to run PS4/PS4 games, so it has to be expected.
@@bruhname2072 iPhones could run some ps4 games fine. They're all significantly better than the switch in terms of hardware. Their newer devices even could surpass the PS4 in some aspects like CPU power. In fact you could even do a side by side since iOS and Android recently got Alien Isolation, a game on both console PC and mobile
Well of course. It's not a streaming option like with Xbox's Xcloud bundled along side Gamepass. It's just a simple free app that allows you to stream gameplay straight from your console
I just got my android version and it is running on my Samsung A53 5G phone that I wasn't using anyways. It has the Xbox and PS app loaded so I was easily able to play my Xbox remote play games and PS5 games portably at home. I will test it tomorrow when I go to work, but the controller works fine portably at home. It actually works better than I thought it would and I am happy with it. I don't care about the subscription, I just wanted this for my Xbox & PS games portable.
Guys make sure like the video
Make sure like my comment
Just ordered one! Great review
And then it gets stick drift
Ps portal you make some of the best gaming content keep it up
First, you need a PS5.
Would the backbone still work if i were to use it work
If they re-design it with symmetrical analogue stick layout, I'll be more inclined to grab one
As a person with a 2-year-old who wants to do everything Daddy does... this thing is a godsend.
super helpful thank you
Recently got one of these, thanks for the video.
Do you know if the controller can be used with a PC? Like it’s either BT from the phone or the lightning cable is plugged into the USB?
the weird dark mode black square behind the PS5 streaming image drives me insane. it's a bug from the last version update which is like 6 months old at this point, crazy that they havnt fixed it
currently the back bone one on their site is now in sale for £69.99 uk
When are they going to come out for tomorrow with the Android phone
Backbone Ps5 💙 - Awesome video as ever! Best tech reviewer on You tube 😁
4:09 Definitely some latency there, but not too bad. I've not had the best luck with the PS4 Remote played on the iPhone 7. It started out nice, but then had input lag, and drop in visual fidelity.
Yeah I dunno why like remote play used to work for me but last year or so it's been really laggy.
Would this be recommended for going on an airplane? And does your ps5 have to be on for you to use it?
I don't really use Remote Play, but this product looks amazing. I'm seriously considering getting one.
Any word on if they’re going to make a version for Type C IPhones/ newer model iPhones?
Why everyone is putting phone incorrectly, I don't understand, you have to place left side first then right to not damage port. it's not easy to damage iPhone's port, but why you have to torture either iPhone or Controller when you can place it correctly.
Can you still play if you don’t have a PlayStation?
Yes I just got mines today I don’t have a console, so far I’ve played Fortnite, Call of duty MW3(2023), Apex Ledgends, Roblox, FIFA, Skate 3 & Session basically all the games that I play on console, this thing is awesome!! It’s going to cost you a little bit extra for subscriptions but it’s definitely worth it ‼️
Can you go outside with it, to other side of the city and play your PS5 games?
Yes you can
They need an iPad Mini version of this. Regular iPhone's screens are a little too small, the ipad Mini is the perfect size this IMO
Will remote play work with physical disc games or only digital download games from PS5 store?
I’m debating on buying this one or the standard one but I heard the PlayStation one you can ONLY use PS play and backbone app but on the black standard you can play Xbox, ps, steam, and backbone…. Is this true? This is a huuuge difference if so, it’s almost like what’s the point of getting this one over the standard one, especially for the same price.
Does it work with the iPhone 14?
Question: I haven't played PlayStation in about a decade. I recently got really nostalgic about the Jak and Dexter series, can I use this device to play these games again?
Unfortunately because of the PlayStation remote play app being useless, I have to return mine.
Wish I could have used this, it seemed perfect for me
I'm already have one coming to my house tomorrow I'm super excited I can't wait to it's works
did it work
I just got mine. I can’t wait to use it 🤗
should I get this or just wait for the Gamevice Flex?
GameCollection was selling this for £70 the other day. Picked one up. Only played for about 30 mins but pleasantly surprised and how good this works 😮😮😮
That’s a bargain price too
Works really well when playing single player games like Spider-Man or God of War
AM I ABLE TO PLAY GTA 5 ONLINE? 2K MY CAREER? I SEE PEOPLE PLAYING THE SAME GAMES IN EACH REVIEW, IS IT WORTH BUYING ?
