Yeah, you essentially need to think of all the Law Books as 1 big series. It’s all the same world, a lot of the same characters or family of the same characters..it all goes together.
In no way, shape, or form should you skip the standalones. You get a ton of character development for characters in the Age of Madness Trilogy and several side plots in AoM won't make as much sense to you. First Law is one 9 book series that needs to be read in order.
My vote goes for the Liveship trilogy, it’s epic! Not as loveable characters perhaps as in the books following Fitz - but there’s action and the complexity of the characters is amazing, the growth some of them experience is a joy to witness. I re-read all 16 RotE books this year and I already want to start again!
My Number One with a bullet is Twelve Months, book 18 of The Dresden Files by Jim Butcher. Jim is said he’s one the Final Draft and his website’s progress bar is at 89% so we should get it in ‘25. So excited…
Gonna try my best to join with Sun Eater, though I know myself better than to make definite promises hahahah. Also please DO NOT skip the First Law standalones!! And can't wait for you to continue your indie journey. Happy reading :)))
Oooh! I’ve felt behind by not reading Suneater yet, but I’m excited to join the read along! I did slightly read DDC with you. Finished book 4 last month 😊
You need to read the stand-alone books in 1st Law before AoM as they are chronological, as is Liveships, I think you should continue both series and read Liveships 1st….. happy xmas 😊
I'm near the end of Before They Are Hanged. I had hoped to finish the First Law trilogy before the end of the year, but I don't think that's going to happen. I've been having trouble getting into fantasy series lately. I tried to get back into Stormlight and just couldn't do it. Other than Dungeon Crawler Carl (which I largely enjoy for it's science fiction aspects), I haven't picked up much fantasy the last couple of years. I've owned the first law trilogy for many years and finally started reading the first book and got hooked.
In 2025 I want to read more Indie, more translated fiction or languages I'm learning, more series .... and the Black Mantle! :'D But first I'll read the Harbinger of Justice, of course x3
I am definitely looking forward to “The Black Mantle” by the world famous Andrew Watson. I am currently reading the first Mistborn book by Brandon Sanderson and The House in the Gerulean Sea by TJ Kline. I have The Fifth Season by N. K. Jamisin lined up. Other planned books include Dune Chapter House, and the Robin Hobb series that you have mentioned in the past. I loved your reaction to the Assassin Apprentice.
Definitely do Live Ship Traders before any of the others in The Realm of the Elderlings. The Joe Abercrombie standalones before the Age of Madness one. But I would read The Devils first, because it isn't in the same world as any of his others. I'm trying to read To Ride Hell's Chasm before the end of the year. 💜
Read First Law definitely in order. For me, i would only half enjoy age of madness if I hadn’t read the standalone trilogy. It is so important. So amazing. Please read the standalones starting with Best Served Cold first, then the Heroes, then Red Country, then Sharp Ends. Imo the standalone trilogy has 2 of the top 3 books in the whole of the first law, the other one being last argument of kings for me.
I will be finishing Oathbringer, so I will continue on with Stromlight. After that then I will comeback and finish Suneater; I enjoyed book 1 and everyone says that it gets better.
Sun eater content suggestion: interpretive dance rendition of the things that happen in the books. I’m thinking you could probably create a dance and video for each page of the book which should give you hundreds of videos.
To be honest, my 2025 TBR is just The Black Mantle and whatever other random books happen to come across my desk. I mean, after that, why even make further plans?
The First Law series is on my list for 2025, but i'll tell you that few things are better than the Liveship Trader trilogy. It is perfect and beautiful and no one breaks your heart quite like Hobb does. It's a series you definitely won't regret reading.
You 100% need to read the first law standalones before the age of madness. It spoils some the standalones

i read RotE this year. All 16, back to back. I cannot wait to reread them in a year or two. they were soooo good!
Nice list of anticipated reads. I am eagerly awaiting this Scottish UA-camr guy's release of a Book 2: The Black Mantle.

Please read Liveship Traders next! It’s Robin Hobb’s ASOIAF, it’s phenomenal
Wow, the Black Mantle is something I will definitely look forward to. And it looks like it's a chunk, which I love
Ordered my broken binding editions for xmas - but on book 4 right now - so far top 5 series of all time for me
The Devils seems awesome, very cool you got an early copy.
that is a lot of books to read Andrew, thank you so much for the recommendations... cheers fella

Ah thank you so much!
The Black Mantle is a big anticipated read for me in 2025!

Looking forward to your thoughts on Shroud. I'm looking forward to that release.
Sun eater is on my list for 2025 as well!! Looking forward to get stuck into it!
Black Mantel let's go!!1
Really love Sun Eater and haven’t done a reread of any series in a long time… started with the series in Jan 24 and I’m now doing my reread
In 2025 I want to read more Indie, more translated fiction or languages I'm learning, more series .... and the Black Mantle! :'D But first I'll read the Harbinger of Justice, of course x3

Hahaha thank you! A terrific line up. I need to read Fifth Season. The reviews for it are amazing!
Please don’t read the Age of madness trilogy before reading the stand-alones and the short story collection.
100%

Number one book on my TBR for 2025 right now is The Black Mantle - sequel to a really cool egypt themed fantasy that came out recently
Never heard of it
Great list! Gkad i found your channell
I will be finishing Oathbringer, so I will continue on with Stromlight. After that then I will comeback and finish Suneater; I enjoyed book 1 and everyone says that it gets better.
Black mantle what cool name, I loved your first book
Thank you!

You should read The Black Mantle. Heard its a really great book 😉
I’ll need to check that out…
Should read Navigator's Children and wind and Truth from memory Sorrow Thorn and Stormlight respectively
I’m currently reading Wind and Truth! Memory Sorrow and Thorn is on the TBR. Not sure if I’ll get to it next year but we’ll see
Ooooohhhh, almost the 1st to watch…. 😂
To be honest, my 2025 TBR is just The Black Mantle and whatever other random books happen to come across my desk. I mean, after that, why even make further plans?
Impeccable taste JCM!
I think that 2025 is going to be a year of janny wurts
Great list dude! Looking forward to your First Law discussion! Can't wait to hear what you think!
Thank you! I have a great map to follow along with too
