    You 100% need to read the first law standalones before the age of madness. It spoils some the standalones

    • @RhinoViper
      @RhinoViper Місяць тому

      Yeah, you essentially need to think of all the Law Books as 1 big series. It’s all the same world, a lot of the same characters or family of the same characters..it all goes together.

    • @jacobclark4354
      @jacobclark4354 Місяць тому +2

      In no way, shape, or form should you skip the standalones. You get a ton of character development for characters in the Age of Madness Trilogy and several side plots in AoM won't make as much sense to you. First Law is one 9 book series that needs to be read in order.

    • @AndrewFrancisIlyrian
      @AndrewFrancisIlyrian Місяць тому

      True. You should skip the entire First Law garbage.

    My vote goes for the Liveship trilogy, it’s epic! Not as loveable characters perhaps as in the books following Fitz - but there’s action and the complexity of the characters is amazing, the growth some of them experience is a joy to witness. I re-read all 16 RotE books this year and I already want to start again!

      i read RotE this year. All 16, back to back. I cannot wait to reread them in a year or two. they were soooo good!

    Read Liveship Traders next. There is more to cover in Hobb's work, and Liveship is her most epic. Then do the First Law standalones. After that you have another Hobb trilogy and another First Law trilogy. Neat 😎

    I'm near the end of Before They Are Hanged. I had hoped to finish the First Law trilogy before the end of the year, but I don't think that's going to happen. I've been having trouble getting into fantasy series lately. I tried to get back into Stormlight and just couldn't do it. Other than Dungeon Crawler Carl (which I largely enjoy for it's science fiction aspects), I haven't picked up much fantasy the last couple of years. I've owned the first law trilogy for many years and finally started reading the first book and got hooked.

    I started Sun Eater last month. Quite good, but Hyperion blew my mind.
    Vorkosigan Saga for scifi 🙌🏻
    Janny ❤❤ I need Hell's Chasm on audio so badly 😢
    FIRST LAW🎉🎉🎉 Pacey is brilliant 👏🏼 Red Country is my favorite 😍
    Tainted Dominion? Traveler's Gate?
    Rooker Flynn?
    I need your story on audio 🤓🖤

    Definitely do Live Ship Traders before any of the others in The Realm of the Elderlings. The Joe Abercrombie standalones before the Age of Madness one. But I would read The Devils first, because it isn't in the same world as any of his others. I'm trying to read To Ride Hell's Chasm before the end of the year. 💜

    • @vincytvholic
      @vincytvholic 11 днів тому

      So wait, the Robin Hobb sets of trilogies don't need to be read in order of publication?

    • @heathergoldsmith
      @heathergoldsmith 11 днів тому +1

      @vincytvholic I believe it's best to read them in order of publication, but if you are only interested in The Live Ship Traders, you could not read any of the others and still really enjoy those 3 books as a standalone trilogy. I still think you'd miss out, though personally. 💜

    • @heathergoldsmith
      @heathergoldsmith 10 днів тому +1

      Besides, Andrew has already read the first trilogy, so that was my perspective in my reply. 🤪

    You need to read the stand-alone books in 1st Law before AoM as they are chronological, as is Liveships, I think you should continue both series and read Liveships 1st….. happy xmas 😊

    My Number One with a bullet is Twelve Months, book 18 of The Dresden Files by Jim Butcher. Jim is said he’s one the Final Draft and his website’s progress bar is at 89% so we should get it in ‘25. So excited…

    • @tj10777
      @tj10777 Місяць тому

      Man, would like to re-read the Dresden Files, but I just can’t bring myself to do it. The way he writes each book to be a standalone combined with how short each book is, it feels like each book is halfway done with by the time he’s done explaining everything that has happened in the previous books. This gets very frustrating when you start reading them back to back. Terry Goodkind did this with the Sword of Truth books and I can’t bring myself to re-read them either.
      BTW, if you haven’t read them, the Furies of Calderon books by Jim Butcher are quite good. The problems I have with his books don’t exist in the Calderon books. I’ve read them twice now

    • @mtverv
      @mtverv Місяць тому

      @ I disagree on being able to do Dresden back to back since that’s how I did them the first time through lol. I did the Audiobooks and had a job that had 10 hour shifts so I basically was able to do 1 book a day for like 3 weeks I was so obsessed lol. Btw the Series Name for the books where Furies is the first one is the Codex Alera and I have heard good things. It’s on my TBR but I have a bunch of stuff to get to first. Sun Eater, Red Rising, Empire of the Vampire, First Law, Faithful and the Fallen, and so many more lol

    • @tj10777
      @tj10777 Місяць тому

      @@mtverv I did through book 14 back to back and I remember starting to get really annoyed with the explaining thing by about book 7. If it doesn’t bother you though that’s great!
      Yeah, sorry I couldn’t remember the title for the first Codex Alera book, it’s been 3 or 4 years since I read them.

    I am definitely looking forward to “The Black Mantle” by the world famous Andrew Watson. I am currently reading the first Mistborn book by Brandon Sanderson and The House in the Gerulean Sea by TJ Kline. I have The Fifth Season by N. K. Jamisin lined up. Other planned books include Dune Chapter House, and the Robin Hobb series that you have mentioned in the past. I loved your reaction to the Assassin Apprentice.

    Read First Law definitely in order. For me, i would only half enjoy age of madness if I hadn’t read the standalone trilogy. It is so important. So amazing. Please read the standalones starting with Best Served Cold first, then the Heroes, then Red Country, then Sharp Ends.
    Imo the standalone trilogy has 2 of the top 3 books in the whole of the first law, the other one being last argument of kings for me.

    Sun eater content suggestion: interpretive dance rendition of the things that happen in the books. I’m thinking you could probably create a dance and video for each page of the book which should give you hundreds of videos.

    The First Law series is on my list for 2025, but i'll tell you that few things are better than the Liveship Trader trilogy. It is perfect and beautiful and no one breaks your heart quite like Hobb does. It's a series you definitely won't regret reading.
