I only bought it so I could play while laying down in bed lmao. That’s it. Not tryna carry it around with me like a purse
How is that working for you as that is the exact reason I am contemplating buying this lol.
That's why I'm getting one
Same for me how’s your experience?
Legit, the only reason I want it & for the fact gta 6 ,definitely playing that for at least 24 hours 😅
Hey I can do the exact same thing with my phone
I'm going to use this for late night gaming. Usually when everyone isn't using the Internet.
This is a product for parents IMO. I might need one while I’m rocking a baby that won’t sleep.
Try having a girlfriend ;)
I totally see the befits
@@2greenify I’m married dipshit
Ive been doing remote play with ipad while baby sleeps next to me. Portal will be more convenient.
As a father myself, i am looking at the portal as the perfect device to get some playtime in while the kids are playing the Switch or something 😅
Yes using this whilst baby sleeps is perfect
I am in panama and my play station is in Kansas city. And it works really well. I think your issue is not connecting your console with the Ethernet. That makes a big difference.
I get it. I kinda want one just for playing in bed at night
that’s what i got it for, its perfect!
so you like wasting money?
@@MrLinkkidnot really wasting money when you want and buy what it’s designed for lol
@@dannyreynolds2022 but its not even a native handheld, you could get a switch or steam deck and actually play your games anywhere but with this piece of crap your are teathered to the internet.
It might be wasting money to you but obviously is not to him! Each to their own@@MrLinkkid
So you refuse to connect your PS5 with ethernet and then complain that you notice frame drops or connection problems. Is your Wifi even optimized to account for other signals local to you? At least Cat6 ethernet cables? For good internet and Wifi there's a lot to factor. You can't just pay for internet and expect ISPs to give you the right equipment either.
🤫 people don’t like hearing the truth or to look into how to optimize things
@@jalene150 it's a shame really seeing how this person has 85k subscribers and he's basically misinforming or brushing aside important factors.
I have cat8, no interference, totally free channel, 5ghz and it doesn’t work smoothly.
Most people don't connect their PS5 with ethernet
@@TNTahir They should, especially since routers are most often setup next to the TVs for sake of internet tv and streaming. If you are in a denser areas of the city, then its even more prone to wireless intereference.
Questions… how is the battery life?… can you turn on/off your ps5 remotely (if im like a few miles away in the same city)… is the input lag bad when playing lets say 10 miles away on a similar isp but 2 totally different Wi-Fi connections?
I have a question, does this thing support USB-C disport alt...? Was thinking about getting one of these and using my Xreal Air 2 Pro glasses with it. I know it will work with my Steam Deck and Asus ROG ally and I can remote play PS5 from those. Just curious if you could use the glasses with this Portal...?
You can't. But you could stream to your Ally or Go as well with Xreal added to get already what you was looking for :)
@GamerDan89 Yeah, I ended up passing on getting one of these portals. Not really being able to plug in the Xreal Air 2 Glasses is a let down for sure.
The problem with playing away from home will be your broadband upload speed, is your broadband Synchronous or Asynchronous?
I played flawlessly from South FL, over 700 miles away from home. Disagree with your assessment regarding distance (my PS5 is connected via Ethernet & my parents home in SFl is solid WiFi). Stable connections are what matter most. Not sure what you’re basing this on or if you tested.
Ping does matter. The distance from Dubai to anywhere in Europe is much far greater than 700 miles. But you’re right, it would mitigate performance issues if he had a direct connection to his router.
As dumb as these tips may sound, it improved my experience with Portal substantially. Turn your resolution down to 1080p on PS5, and press start on your network and turn signal to 2.4htz. Lastly either unplug your HDMI from the PS5, or turn off the tv when using the portal. Plus obviously wire your PS5. It seems strange, but you'll be shocked by how much these things will improve your experience. I hope Sony addresses these over sites eventually... 🤷
Yes, shorter ping preferred but not a city to city issue (in U.S.
for me). In my experience, it works great! Performance appears to vary by user. I prepped my connection/settings & have Fiber (Ethernet). But at the EOD, remote play is not local (& has some limitations) but a heck of a nice way to access your entire PS5 game library in a handheld device (8in screen) without having to buy additional games. All for
Yea I got no issues at all. Even in my car.
Same no issue. Ive been traveling with it and got no prob. CA to FL no issue.
So this PS Portal is basically built around the same feature the ps vita had, streaming games from your PS system to it
Except the Wifi in the Vita was dogshit and lacked triggers. So enjoy latency and having to use the rear touchpad to aim and shoot
@@SavagePatch115 eh if you have a vita might wanna save the $200 and just use that to get a deck so you can stream play ps5 and xbox games and play games like helldivers 2 without having to pay for ps plus. Vita also had its own games that to this day, many of which, the ps5 doesn't have yet and most likely never will, and some were definitely 10/10.
very good and thorough review. great production value as well.
Is it slow or does it lag like the psn remote play?
More or less the same from what I hear.
It's snapdragon processing from old Samsung phone budget phone lol
Nope mine doesn’t
Dude you didnt mention about the battery? How long does this device last?
If you want to know, it is good. It doesn't use heavy hardware. I can use it a minimum of 6 hours. I play inside and don't have to use max brightness.
I spent two months in turkey and my ps5 was in London. I would I had issues only 10% of the time. Other than that it ran perfectly it saved my time there. It’s a great device for holiday
So I don’t get why you had a bad experience with it
It is a travel device…. Omg why do you say it’s not! It is mine works perfectly in another country? Did you drop your ps5 settings to low that would help I guess. My ps5 is connected with a lan cable I guess that was your issue
@@justinsane3909 no the brightness is fine
They need to make a portal edge with removable sticks and back paddles
I need this thing so bad it’s crazy.
I just received mine I haven’t had an issue with WiFi at all. I purchased it literally stalking the Sony PlayStation website daily they will randomly restock portal. But I haven’t had any issues I left home PS5 was in rest mode I was able to hotspot from iPhone and play on the other side of town as well as outside the home down the road. I use my AirPods Pro’s with a Bluetooth transmitter and can also connect to external speakers. Maybe I’m special idk 🤷🏽♂️. Good luck to others. Keep in mind this guy tried to portal from a PS5 in a whole other country 😂 it’s not that capable yet.
i'll admit it looks more comfier to hold than a switch. And also the fact I can game in bed if not on the big screen!
I absolutely hate holding my switch. Not comfortable at all
@@ricosuave62094that’s why the switch lite is the best switch.
As the name appears, it’s a ‘portal’ (streaming device) and not ‘portable’ (handheld console)…
Think...how does it improve your gaming experience from the conventional telly? Be critical not Naive
It should be called "dads PlayStation portal"
@@stijnvonck1431cry about it
Anyone having issues with buttons sticking or drifting sticks on it? I’ve had two PS5 controllers have these issues and to have it happen on this would suck
I’ve never experienced stick drift on any of my controllers on PS5, PS4, Switch and the PS Portal.
@JohnCovington5 good for you, but lots of people have abd your answer doesnt help anyone...
@@chiefonahoe7740 Well all those people having issues with stick drift constantly should think about buying an extended warranty. Hope that helps.
I wonder how this would perform when playing hell let loose, any opinions?
Let's say I'm on travel so I leave my PS5 at home, will I be able to stream my games via cloud on the Portal?
Just get a deck at that point to be safe
Was thinking about getting one but trying to get one at the right price is impossible, the only one’s going are on EBay at silly prices even getting a second hand one costs more than a new one from Sony if they were in stock
Yeah there are wanna be scalpers on eBay they keep restocking around me within 6miles gonna buy one tomorrow
Yeah I picked one up on Amazon for MSRP but in two minds whether to keep it or not. I was going to use it whilst staying at my partners house rather than bringing the whole PS5. But the headphones is putting me off keeping it
@@michaelarmstrong1604 I bought mine at GameStop scalpers be damned and Ive been playing death stranding in bed .
@@michaelarmstrong1604 this isn’t the best solution, Sony really should’ve did better but get some 3.5 mm headphones from Target for like $6 and trust me the ps portal at your partners crib instead of the PS5 is going to be soooo much better for the both of ya.
I just bought one from walmart. Been on the fence bcuz i have rog ally and switch. It made sense after me wanting it for a while
I'm not a big fan of this device, but you really should have you PS5 wired to the Internet not wireless...makes a huge difference
I agree with always hardwiring your system. You always have the best possible connection at all times.
People use this excuse like it’s 2010. Wired and wireless are near identical this day and age.

Try unplugging your HDMI lead from the playstation.
1. Use Sony's Pulse 3D wireless Bluetooth headphones
2. The 8" LCD screen looks great in person
3. Use an Ethernet cable on your PS5 for better connection
not being mean but you have a christopher walken vibe going on when you speak :) it's cool
I have the ps5 wired and I unplug the hdmi and it’s crystal clear.
why do you have to unplug the hdmi?
@@konamax9so you want you tv to be turn on? Then don’t connect it while remote play simple.
@@user-kh1ro6wv3twtf are you talking about lol.
I beg to differ. It usually needs to be at the same VPN area. I have no dropout playing this 8 hours away from my PS5 at a remote camp
I cant get mine to remote start my PS5, it always wants me to select my account when I try using remote start up
What about 20 miles is it worth buying to play cod or madden ?
I’m curious too but I play on my phone and madden works good even head to head. I’ve read the portal is even smoother
Mine works flawlessly in any room of my house, I only have 70gb speed and use a wireless connection 👍
A good thing about a lower cost streaming device like this, is when the PS5 gets its next upgrade hardware wise, the portal will be future proofed besides some screen fidelity and you wouldn't need to go purchase a newer portal to get most of the benefits of the newer PS5
Took my ROG Ally to South Africa and played my PS5 back in Virginia. Not perfect but it worked and was playable.
Love my rog ally ! The speakers are top knotch . The vrr panel looks amazing plus your playing pc versions of games which are better or Playstation or xbox gamepass . Just a wonderful unit all around except battery life but not a deal breaker last i recall theres outlets about everywhere if you need more than a hour and a half of gaming ! 😊
So this is not like a true handheld? I cant take it on a plane and play or anything?
Been loving mines 🔥
Honestly if this was more like $120 usd, I think it could be a solid seller. It’s pretty much just a beefed up controller with a cheap screen. It would go from a “idk” to a no brainer accessory.
200$ ain’t that much different from 120$ bro.

Can anybody comment on here who actually is smart enough to connect the ps5 to the Ethernet with the correct cat6 cable ??
Have you done this and travelled many
Miles away to see if it works ok ??
I’m going to
Dubai in the summer at a nice hotel with very good wi fi
I would really like to know if the Ethernet cable fixes this
I was in turkey for two months and my ps5 was connected to via cable in UK it was fine, at times and I mean rarly I had issues
That’s good news was your turkey wi fi decent ?
Can i play elden ring on this thing?
I am tempted to get one, as 40-50% playtime of my PS5 is on my ASUS ROG Ally or iPad…
I use my ally for pc games and emulation. Ps5 cant do that
@@BansheeN0rnThat is true and that is what I use my ally for as well. Can play Halo, LoL, Tarkov, and others on it.
Tips for PS Portal:
1. Hardwire your PS5
2. Set your PS5 graphics to 1080p, turn off vrr, alm, 120 hz, etc.
3. Unplug the hdmi from your PS5.
Quality of stream will increase significantly.
I live with my parents my dad is watching tv 24/7 can't play on my ps5 LOL i need this
I've been hating on the Portal since launch but I bought one for my son. I really like it, so much that I play it even when the TV is free. I think when I get Project Eve I will want to see it in its full graphical glory on my oled HDR TV, but I'm playing Samurai Maiden at the moment and this game actually looks better on the smaller Portal display. I do have difficulty rarely with the connection even though me, my ps5, and router are all in the same room and my ps5 is connected via ethernet cable
It's light too so I can play Samurai Maiden one handed 😂
Add bluetooth headphone connecticuty and stream from PC and sold.
Do yourself a favor and wire in the PS5 and get a dedicated wireless access point and dont rely on the crap wifi module in a router.
I finished the whole ghostwire tokyo with platinum with the portal alone. Apart from the connectivity issues, it's amazing. Even with the same wifi and having the device nearby, it doesn't connect most of the time..
That should eliminate the connection issue
If you lag and freeze its pretty simple your network isn't optimized. Whether it be congested bandwidth or wifi range or interference. A new router and assignment of devices to different bands fixed all my issues and made me realize how bad my previous wifi was
Yes- this is key. I purchased deco mesh system and ever since it’s as smooth as butter .
I can confirm that your PS5 being connected to your network via Wifi or Lan 100% matters, I tried it both wired and wireless and wireless was completely un playable. I have a solid network as well, 2 500$ routers in my house with Wifi 6 and also noted that my ps5 is 2 feet away from one of those routers. WIFI DOES NOT JUST WORK FINE dont buy it if you cant connect via LAN to PS5, this dude must be living in a 1 bedroom apartment.
I am using primarily at home. With ET12 Mesh router, I get nearly 0 lag. Perfect device
It’s garbage. Get a ROG Ally or. Legion go.
Poor people that do these reviews. Their opinion doesn’t matter because the Rock said so!!
@PSUNATION Not garbage at all. I have ROG ally, haven't touched it since PS portal. ROG ally will have much lower fps and heats up whenever playing. Fan noise is so loud that I cannot play quietly on my bed comfortably
Is it actually better than Remote Play using your phone in your setup, as the video suggests? I'm tempted to get this as a 2nd screen for home use.
@PhilLau Yes, PS Remote Play on your phone, unless you are using Chiaki, doesn't support local area network play. You can only connect to your PS via the internet, which can significantly add delay. From my experience, using PS Remote play on my iPad was unusable, whereas PS portal has almost zero lag. You probably need a good router, though
This is for me when my boyfriend is hogging the tv
For someone who works allot like me. After a 16 hour day. It’s nice to pick this up and play for 30 minutes in bed before I go to sleep. If you’re using it for that or because you have allot of kids in the house and people on the TV then it’s worth it. Not a portable console at all.
This had potential to be absolutely amazing if it could play games natively
Doubt anyone is going to take it overseas I have 2 coworkers from Newfoundland and work in Alberta. They are playable and still good
Can’t connect AirPods? I’m out
Maybe a second gen could be much better for travel play
Is it a Samsung display?
They should just add a dedicated WiFi network like a cell phone network
So better keep your ipad or iphone max and have multiple usage.
The potential for this amazing, the execution on the other hand...
I like the idea of connecting this to the PS5 as a specialized controller.
I think you made a honest try to review the Portal, but two things stood out as weird. First, you should at least have tried to wire your PS5 to see if you got better results. Second, you are somewhat complaining that it’s unplayable from Dubai (while the PS5 is still in Europe) even though you have great WiFi in both end. The most important thing in that scenario is the internet routing between your locations. Even only one bottleneck in the route will make it unplayable. That’s not the Portals fault.
So with this you can play on airplane? Just need to have your ps5 at home on
Portal still needs WiFi. If the plane does have WiFi it wouldn't be good enough and if it's a screen login you can't use it as portal doesnt have a browser
I received this yesterday, and it has several limitations: your control must be near the PS5, also closer to the wifi; it should have been an OLED screen. This is indeed an excellent functioning prototype, but it shouldn't have been released to the public.
An upgrade is required to enhance the connectivity between the console and portal:
I wouldn't describe this as a portal, more like a secondary joystick and screen that you use in your home:
They need to have included a feature where you could turn on or off the button's clicky sound: In other words, you are incorrect if you believe you can play while your wife is in bed since the buttons create a lot of noise.
If it was oled it would be closer to $350-$400
It is what it is! So many people moaning about it
Don’t need oled, the screen is great as it’s small
So your WiFi sucks and then you complain the device sucks? You're a smart man
Hardwire your PS5, use a 5Ghz network and play games in 60fps mode for lower latency. 30FPS is a no no via streaming.
lol yes it is! You must have crap WiFi coz mines wireless and it’s brilliant
It makes sense if your wife likes trash tv and makes you sit next to them. This was the compromise
lol thinking about buying one so I can play games closer to my family and not just sit in one room all day
Could someone help me understand? Sorry if this is a dumb question, I don't understand why it's considered a portable device when it still has to be virtually tethered to a PS5. I don't even like nintendo and I'd pick a switch since it is truly independent.
Is it? All I see on the website that is called “PlayStation Portal™ Remote Player”.
It just gives you the remote experience on the PS5 anywhere with wifi connection.
Not the way you said Vitta instead of Vita
Too bad scalpers ruin everything. Guess I’ll have to wait a few months to get one
It’s been out for months. It’s still hard to get? Who’s even buying this 😂

Is it just me or does this thing seem useless, you could have the same thing by carrying a iPad or another tablet with a stand that has ps remote play downloaded and a ps5 controller with you it would literally do the exact same thing as they both require wifi.
Unless this thing cuts lag by atleast 8/10s(i doubt it) compared to a device that can use remote play and a controller you could save your money.
I heard remote play app is janky
@@BansheeN0rn It is, sometimes it’s actually useable with a good connection though. That’s how this portal works too though, no?
Does this not use the same feature which requires WI-FI and the same remote play to actually let you play your games “on the go” if you don’t have connection then it’s a $300 dollar product you can’t do literally anything with😂 I’d have rather they made a new VITA
Only difference is its a controller cut in half with a display with built in remote play made by Sony.
Unless it actually stores some games so you can play SOME WITHOUT WIFI this seems like a LESS capable modern psp/vita or glorified portable tablet controller because you still have to stream EVERYTHING from your console at home.
@@BansheeN0rn you could literally get a Backbone and do all the same stuff with the same remote play on your XBOX or Playstation and any other game or app that supports a controller you have on your phone without all without being wifi dependent, half the price and half the size.
No, it’s smaller than an iPad so more portable. Can’t do that with an iPad lol
@@hannahgibbons7436 iPad mini has oled, and it’s 1 inch wider across same thing with the Galaxy A Series(both of which will probably fit in any bag the portal will fit in, if you account for the controller halves), those and your phone can use remote play for PS4 AND PS5 in the same app and it is in your pocket every day lol. The Max/plus series iPhones and most phones are atleast 5-6 inches across. All of which has something the portal doesn’t…..local games that don’t require a connection.
If you have a phone with the storage and a controller WHICH you should have because you NEED the console to use this, then you already have a portal 😂 I stand by my statement
PSP is legendary
Ps5 = needs good upload sp
Portal = needs good download sp
Right?
Ill stick to my PSP slim
I only want to play at home anyway when the wife is watching shit on tv or the kids are 😂
Honestly. It’s crap even sitting infront of the console. Tried it for 2 weeks. Sent it back.
The best handheld is the game boy
Immediate credibility loss when admitting you're not even hardwired to the router from your ps5.
brother you talk about wifi, plug that shit in
They need to let play the games we get with PlayStation plus's
This defeats the whole purpose of a portable console...you can't play it anywhere you go coz it has to be connected to a ps5 console. This was meant for someone serving time in a prison cell with no primary display available...😔
I’m not in prison. But it’s meant for me. Don’t be so closed minded.
Or a dad who's primary display (TV) occupied by kids , wants to play violent games not in front of children, people who has really good wifi and lots of downtime at work etc.sure it's not for hardcore gamers with all kind of different consoles and PC gaming setup.i am really happy with mine.

Sony says connect the ps5 to a land cable, I use wifi and i think it does pretty great. DO NOT THINK YOU CAN USE THIS OUTSIDE YOUR HOME, YOU GOTTA SIT NEXT TO YOUR ROUTER

You just have to play Demon’s Souls on this thing to realize how useless it is due to the random stutter. It’s unplayable unless you use it for something less demanding like 2D games.
I think that sony is a chikens company scary to put the vita on the way , sony makes lot of mistakes in last 10 years , betther idea is to make cloud portable gaming system than this
Just need a good wifi 6 router
So you went to Dubai and expected your remote gaming to work?? That simply was never going to work.
For a start Dubai heavily sensor their Internet, do your assign through multiple firewalls that will influence your connectivity. Also, depending on your PS5 location, many possible Internet influences could cause packet loss and latency!
Then you are trusting a foreign WiFi in an Air BNB? Something you have no influence over and no idea if the WiFi is setup correctly.
I am not defending Sony here, but your testing is so flawed and completely not scientific in any way.
