    For true hermits - 'maybe it seemed like a lot of people. But, I was there last year and it was NOT noisy. Separating the two fire pits worked wonders for the whole event. Although I am very involved with music, I actually enjoyed the fire pit that didn't have music. This way, we were able to get to know each other, tell stories around the campfire, laugh and have a good time. It's not like folks who demanded absolute quiet were camping two feet from the fire pit. Otherwise, during the day folks visited each other's rigs, there were amazing free workshops, hiking, hanging out.... you name it. All of that in as large an area as we needed. I never witnessed any traffic jams or anything. One could pick and choose one's experience with quality folks who enjoy hanging out and sharing this amazing lifestyle. 'Hope to make it in 2018. Thanks for all you do, Bob!

    Bob, you are a very good man, intelligent, good communicator, and above all, very generous with your knowledge. It is not that common to find a human being with your qualities. I am not a van dweller, I am a 73 year old lady who lives in an apartment in Santiago, Chile. A big hug to you!!!👏👏👏👏👍👍👍👍🇨🇱

    I think that we are all introverts, that is why living on the road is easier for some than with others. Though I am in the purging phase, I will be so happy when I can see people when I want and NOT see people when I don't want to see them. I look forward to the time that I can actually purchase my new to me home with wheels.

    Bob, I LOVE you for saying :
    "If you wanna come to party, don't come, you are not welcome. It's my camp, and you are not welcome" Thank you for making this very clear, because the disgusting frat-party that burning man has become is worrisome that the same crowd wants to be where you guys are.

    • @MattKochelJJInaJayco
      @MattKochelJJInaJayco 7 років тому +3

      Darth & Kali,
      Sorry but it is not his camp. I volunteer for the BLM in Quartzsite and it is only 15 feet around your rig that becomes your camp. All others have 15 feet too. This is the rules from the BLM and if he does try to control someone else's camping area they have told me they will remove Bob. We have talked to all 4 rangers and they said the same thing because each and everyone has to get their own permit that Bob has no rights to say anything to anyone that is farther then 15 feet from him and if they are there first he will be in violation of the 15 feet rule. So just know all your facts first before saying something.

    • @billavara
      @billavara 7 років тому

      the entire event exists because Bob makes it so. yes, it is his camp, his rules. you speak like a person who will be made to leave for all the wrong reasons. when if you just behave according to the minimal rules of common ocurtesy and respect, no issues. he is not asking you to donate a kidney, just do not bring a frat party and get loud and silly. its so simple

    • @MattKochelJJInaJayco
      @MattKochelJJInaJayco 7 років тому +1

      Darth & Kali,
      Sorry but this is what the BLM in Quartzsite and the Rangers that I have been working with have told me when I showed them this video. Just relaying the information to people.

    • @billavara
      @billavara 7 років тому +2

      So you are the type to go get people in trouble for doing good. Just because you are an entitled nitwit who wants to party anywhere anytime. Grow up Matt Kochel. This event is for people who are Nice, who are considerate. Do you possess these qualities? I won't be surprised if this is the last real RTR. As soon as something becomes big like this, with everybody wanting their say and changing what is or isn't acceptable, it's over. Then its a commercial Burning man in the making. I know and have casually met a Lot of the original burning man crowd, they don't even bother reading about it anymore, never mind attending, because it's so completely filled with people who are not who Burning Man was all about

    • @MattKochelJJInaJayco
      @MattKochelJJInaJayco 7 років тому +1

      Deborah Cazalas,
      You are correct I do respect everyone but at the same time I follow the BLM first and if someone tells me that these rules are not the rules for that area I will have to disagree with them. And some of these so called Bob Rules are not in or covered even in the BLM and so I have shared this with the Four Rangers in Quartzsite and they told me they will remove Bob if he tries to in force his rules. That is all I am saying.

    Thank you so much for laying everything out Bob . I plan on being there. I don't own a dog and I don't want to take care of others dogs my cleaning up their poop with my shoes. I also don't use a generator and appreciate a quiet beautiful desert. I'll be looking for The Quiet area when I get there.

      miss kitty Hi miss kitty. When I boondock I have a Mr. Buddy propane Heater. I try to stay where the temperature doesn't get below 30°. My refrigerator in my 1998, 28 foot class A is a 3 way. 110v when I have land power, DC when I am driving and propane when I boondock. I need to rig my heater to my RV 26 gallon propane tank. Those little 1 gallon cans cost about 4x as much. I also have an RV gas heater the bearings are going out on so it gets a little noisy. If I'm boondocking in the city it gives me away so I got the mr. Buddy Heater

    This is a GREAT video Bob!!! I haven't been to an RTR yet but I hope to attend one soon!

    You are completely justified in not wanting to be forced to listen to other people's music. You should not have to listen to the hum of another person's loud generator. Dogs should be carefully managed by their owners, picked up after and kept on a leash. All these things are simple common sense and consideration for others. I commend you for holding back the chaos.

    Thanks for all your work on this event and this UA-cam channel.
    I am the same as you relating to having noise invade my space. It bothers me and makes it hard for me to concentrate and relax. I agree that others don't feel this way. I don't care about what other people do when it doesn't impact me. Many people don't mind a bunch of noise and so as long as the area where their noise spreads to don't mind, I don't have a problem with that. I think setting up areas for quiet is a great idea.
    When we come together as a group it is our responsibility to compromise and take into account the desire of the group and the other individuals. It is wonderful that so often this works very well. But we also do need people to help maintain the wishes of the group overall.

    Bob, one of my first videos was your so called “hissy fit” and I felt that you were addressing issues that several other people were happy you spoke about it from some of the comments. I didn’t see it as a hissy fit. I was actually impressed with the way in which you were handling it.
    I also appreciate this video. Clears things up. Unfortunately I won’t be able to come this year which saddens me but that’s the way it is. I don’t have a rig for one thing and the hotel rooms that fits my budget were snapped up last year, or so they told me. So enjoy yourself and I always enjoy your videos. I went to the RTR in Quartzsite in 2013 and the Sierras some time before that (no rig, just in my car) because I was considering the lifestyle and wanted to commune with others already living free in their RV. Then for years, I just followed along but never taking the leap. I'm so excited now that I want to yell it from the mountain-top: I just bought a used Class B Pleasure-Way (Whoo Hoo) and this year I'll join the RTR in proper fashion. Looking forward to meeting everyone!

    I found your blog looking for how to install solar. I discovered many blogs that are by others that are part of your tribe. It has been a GREAT FIND. I had no idea this was really a movement. I not only want to come it is something I feel I need, to learn from professional travelers. I sold my home couple of months ago bought 23 foot travel trailer from a friend, my son has had to tow it for me. My car was not capable of towing (2014 Vera's note.)Selling these to buy a van (work van) to insulate and make easy to heat and cool, I discovered a lot with the travel trailer. Being totally mobile is most important. I had no idea about being stealth until these videos, because of the videos I decided I'd be most comfortable being stealth.I have gathered very valuable information from the blogs. Thankful for people that have giving hearts, sparing us the expense and frustration of trials and errors( how to insulate has helped me to understand what I'll need to do. This video has made me feel so comfortable about coming. I'm very friendly, but also very private person, a time for both. I am not comfortable in party atmosphere with strangers, if you do not know them, hard to judge good old boy having fun, from billy jo bad butt that will shot you. Lol ( I have worked as EMT you can never judge a strangers actions that has been using, seen situations where granny will attack because of medications and alcohol mixing. The rules were a blessing to watch, knowing someone will take ownership and be ready to handle situations. Gives us newbies sense of safety. Glad to follow all rules to get the information and the over all experience.. Can't thank you enough.

    Every event needs a set of rules in order to keep the peace and your right it is your camp and anyone who thinks otherwise needs to go elsewhere, your taking you personal time to organize and plan the event and your right if the ranger has an issue your the one they will come looking for no on else so in their eyes its your camp. i'm just like you in that someone else's noise entering my space is the same as the that person being there so i don't feel that replenishment i need from being alone. makes total sense to me.

    That's a good definition of an introvert. I'm talkative so no one considers me to be an introvert, but I think talking is a barrier. TY for the clarification

    Kind of sad that you have to actually remind people how to have respect for you and this event. I so badly wish I could be there but I figure sacrificing now will get me closer to living this life. Please continue doing this RTR so I can go in the future!

    And best wishes for the RTR that is a load of work and many concerns. Your right it is a big space so for those who want to be close let it be and for you and me if I was there give me space. So hang in there Bob you will be just fine. Usually the idiots find there own ring of fire...... :D right

    Great details and very well said Bob! You can't get any more straight forward. It's too bad that "common sense" needs to be explained. I get it, and certainly respect anyone's need for peace, quiet, and solitude. Won't be attending this year, but look forward to next year once I retire. God Bless and best of luck.

    Common sense and manners rule and many need to realize this. Hopefully the wife and I can come down and see everyone. Yes my dogs will be coming but I always follow the rules and keep my dogs on leashes and pick up after them. Again, manners rule. Good Job Bob.

    Fellow Introvert, thank you for trying to explain to others about our "battery depletion"! I am a firm believer in the fact that it should not be assumed that everyone is in-the-know about everything. I also believe that most people will be accepting of another person's... I'll call them quirks IF they know what they are. Being mad at someone's ignorance isn't fair. Of course, there will always be the "impossible to please" individuals but for the most part a little transparency and a little common courtesy go a long way. Thank you.

    Yay, Bob❗️I’m so glad you feel that way. The larger the group gets, the more important it is to set rules and guidelines. I’m an introvert, as well, and my quiet ‘recharging’ time is very important to me, too. Glad you are emphasizing the leash law and ‘scoop your dogs poop’. It also makes total sense to have music players, and folks with generators honor what should remain quieter areas - and move further out. If I’m able to attend, I’d opt to stay out a ways. Hopefully noisemakers won’t end up on either side of me, lol

    All good stuff Bob, and I hope this year people don't just walk a few feet from camp and go behind a bush and do their business and then leave it, paper, poop, and all on the ground, because they didn't even bring a shovel to burry their mess. Several volunteers had to go in behind these people, after the RTR, and clean up their mess with rubber gloves and plastic bags. I hope this year people don't leave a mess for others to clean up.

      Traveling Terry that was the worst. In fact Big John and I were talking about a summer event we attended where people would walk off into the woods with no shovel. Did they miss that class on how to poop in the woods? Will miss you this year!
