Your emphasis on having fun is spot on. So important to make what YOU like! All solid points 👏

Isn't it just. I've been really lacking that of late (hence the lack of videos) but I feel it's coming back. Thanks for watching!

I'm a photographer and I find one of the biggest barriers I see get into my way as well as people I teach is the lack gear or tool we think we need to have. When I don't fixate on the gear I don't have and work on pulling the shot off with the gear I have I'm forced to think out of the "box". I know use this with people I'm mentoring. I have them pick one lens and only shoot with it for a month. By the end of the month they don't consider it a burden at all but they learn it opens the door to new images they never even thought of.

Great video & content / tips Rick! I used to get frustrated that "everyone else" was making / taking awesome photos & it took a while for me to realise that I needed to do my photography for me, at my level, at my pace, while continuing to learn - which I am doing. Social media puts this "awesome work" of others in front of us, but what we don't see are their failures, hours and hours of non productive work or volumes of shots that get binned. We then measure ourselves by the one, two or three examples (their best) that we are presented with. At best we should use others work to get motivated, and then strive to improve at our own pace - IMHO. There will always be those better or worse than we are, so I totally agree, be kind to yourself, just enjoy & get out there.

Thanks K, I totally agree. It's often too easy to get swept up in everything I think, but if you bring it back to simply 'why do I do this', it removes an awful lot of the comparison related discomfort

Sean Tucker has a video on a similar topic. The thing I remember the most annoys me because it works, at least on me. When you don't want to do something for whatever reason: "Do it anyway." Very close to your final point. Interesting points and good advise, IMO.

Ah this video came at just the right time, I've been getting far too picky with my photo's lately. Comparing my work to others is something I have to stop doing! great vid mate.

Photography and videography is not my full time job. So a major barrier is not enough time. Another problem is that my work should acknowledge and have use for my skills (I work in higher education) and competence (that I developed during the pandemic) but does not seem interested. Very demoralizing.
Sure take action and have fun and from time to time things align nicely but not often enough.

I struggle with time when it is 😂. That sounds really frustrating for you. I've found from experience that non-creatives often struggle to see that value in what creative people can do. Hopefully something changes with that soon.

great vid mate! Now back to making something :)
Here's a 5th one you missed...look out the window until it's lunchtime, then walk to Tesco to get a meal deal. :P

Haha - thanks mate!! Ahh, I'd forgotten about that one. Funnily enough, that never really gave me a whole lot of motivation 😂
