  • Good Samaritans started singing while giving chest compressions to an Arizona cyclist who collapsed. The rescuers were jamming to the Bee Gees’ hit song "Stayin’ Alive." First responders say it has the perfect beat to follow when giving chest compressions. One rescuer happened to be a nurse who was hiking on the trail when the cyclist suffered his medical emergency. Inside Edition’s Megan Alexander has more.

    CPR is extremely tiring if done right, even an extremely physically fit person slows after 5-10 minutes. It is good people were willing to step in and help her and follow her instruction. It looks like the other people were giving good compressions, glad the outcome was a success and the guy survived.

    • @Vendemiair
      @Vendemiair Місяць тому +28

      As a medical doctor who pursued internal medicine training, I can confirm this is 100% true. I can't even recall how many times I had to do chest compressions as part of advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) in the hospital. You need several people taking turns to sustain the chest compressions at the proper depth and speed. And one thing that people might not be that aware of is that you can crack ribs doing so, especially for old, frail people. I'm sure I've done it a couple of times, you can feel a "give" when it happens. Not that you should stop the chest compressions if this occurs.

    • @Vendemiair
      @Vendemiair Місяць тому +13

      @@burt591 There's some leeway when it comes to rate (100-120/minute), but compressions should never go much faster or much slower than this range. Going faster will only make the people doing the chest compressions tire more quickly, without helping increase the amount of blood being pumped out. The explanation is a bit technical but simply put, the amount of blood filling the heart will decrease if the rate goes too fast. On the other hand, going too slow means that while the heart will fill with blood, the amount that will be circulated will not be enough because of the slow rate.

It’s more for getting air from the lungs and into the heart.

    This song is powerful! I was about to pull the plug on my mom that was in a coma and it came on 3 times in a row on the day we were going to do it. I kept switching the song on the radio and each new channel had this song playing. A car with a license plate that read “choose life,” pulled up in front of me. Well, I got the message loud and clear. We didn’t end up doing it and my mom is alive today, 14 years later. She did flatline 3 times and had an NDE she told me about. We live on.

    Video is awesome; my CPR class was a little twisted in thought and did our compressions to Queen’s Another One Bites the Dust. Yes, we got the irony, but it was the right rhythm and we were determined to enjoy the course.

      Looks like a helmet mounted Gopro, but I couldn't blame the people doing CPR either since this is the US where people saving others have been sued for breaking a rib or two.

    The beats of the song staying alive perfectly syncs with the frequency with which one should give CPR,that is why.

      Yup! EMT here and Baby shark is another good one! If you go on Spotify there is actually a CPR playlist and it has tons of great songs for cpr to remember the beat. Just don’t use Adele, Adele does NOT save lives and it’s just too slow.
