I just have to say, as an Icelander....thank you! We are having too many people coming in thinking Iceland is nothing but a rainbow-elf-friendly paradise with sun and green grass all year round, and that is on us because we keep making these stupid summer advertising videos, but fail to put out videos that warn tourists of the danger that is, our winter. So from the bottom of my heart, thank you for this video!
Thank you SO much Katrín, this just made my day! My whole mission is to educate tourists about safe and respectful travel in Iceland. Happy to be spreading the word :)
Just returned from Iceland for the 2nd time both winter visits. Jan 17 and Feb 18. I hired a 2WD both times and was able to travel the ring road and many roads off this. As long as you keep an eye on weather forecast and the road conditions. Plan ahead, drive carefully and you will be ok. Agree totally Iceland is stunning in the winter and I would certainly recommend it. I had heavy snow in all parts and I’ve visited everywhere other than the East. Snaefellsnes Peninsula, North Iceland were my favourites but the South is stunning also.
Glad to hear you had such great trips to Iceland!
Did you see alot of Northern lights in Feb?
So so helpful!! Now I’m stoked to plan a winter trip, I know all about winter coming from Alberta Canada so even though it would be different, any and experience helps!
Absolutely! I'm very familiar with winter myself, but I still think Iceland is a different animal! Glad the video was helpful for you :)
I love you & love in iceland 🇮🇸 😍
Omg love love love. Great channel. Thank you ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thank you so much, glad I could help!
Thanks ....it was such a help
Thank you sir, happy to help!
Many thanks mam for wonderful information. 🙏
You're so welcome! Happy to help!! :)
Just want to mention that ICE-SAR is all volunteer work and sadly people plain just take advantage of it. Please listen to local advice about traveling if you´re coming to Iceland, locals know more about traveling in the different conditions then tourists.
Absolutely, I agree 100%! Thanks Védís :)
Planning to come in March. I hope it will be a good time to come to iceland
Anytime is a good time to visit Iceland! :)
Really been enjoying aqll your Iceland videos. When this pandemic is over I definitely want to come. Just trying to work out what time of year I want to go as I want to do a few things not offered in winter but want to see northern lights.
If I come during the end of Feburary/beginning of march will I be able to go to hot springs or waterfalls? Also do you feel like "sleeper van" is okay for the winter or do you recommend a 4x4?
Hi jeannie! Thanks for this. Great tips! Can you do a video on using campsites with your rent a car or motorhome? The prices and rules.. i dont see a lot of videos with that topics. Thanks!
I'll add it to my list - thanks for the suggestion Felix!
Please make a video where you can speak about touring Iceland in October
I did release one! Here it is: ua-cam.com/video/WdcynXl9I0w/v-deo.html
My husband is stuck there ... didn’t know the winds can be so bad that flights are canceled, and no no just for one day but even 3 days ! ... to the point he needed to take a flight to Paris to then travel to Boston :-/ I’m worry about that. Iceland can be a PAIN in winter
So sorry to hear this! But yes, the weather is sooo unpredictable! It is one of the reasons I really emphasize paying attention to weather and staying up to date! I hope he's back home safe now! :-)
Iceland with a View Thank you ! He is back finally. For 2 days I was beyond worry. He had to go to Paris to then fly to Boston and finally to Colorado. I thought Iceland would be as cold and same weather as Colorado in the winter. BUT I was wrong. Winds there are way more serious and 40 degrees Fahrenheit can be diferente that 40 degrees in CO. Anyways, he said it was a beautiful place , amazing views but next time we’ll go in the summer ;)
The weather in Iceland is ALWAYS calm.
The problem? Most of the time the calm is in a god-awful hurry (you call it wind) and, even worse, in many places the calm has no idea where it is rushing to!
Do you think is a good idea to go around Island by camper in winter?
Tyres* hehe. Great vid, we’re going mid November so hoping it won’t be tooo intense 👌🏻
Thank you so much! Trying to decide what car to rent for a late march trip. Some people (like yourself) say definitely get a 4wd car, but on the rental websites all 4wds available are SUVs. And many people say DO NOT get an SUV, because they are tall, you can get blown off the road. Really unsure what to do here. Great video & advice in general. Thanks!
Thanks so much for watching! Happy to help!!:)
@anne, what kind of car/SUV did u end up going with? We are visiting in Jan. and plan on the 4wd(didn't realize the possibility of only SUVs and danger with wind). Thanks.
@@amberreimer1756 Hi! We got the SUV and it worked out ok. It was all wheel drive and we were happy to have it. Almost slid off the road once. We also changed our plans last minute a couple times bc bad weather was forecast, and everyone accommodated us. So just go slow and stay put if you need to. Enjoy!!!
Hello there. i am new to your website and channel. Have i not found anything yet or you dont really have any material for people who do not intend to self-drive in Iceland? any tips for us? :)
Super helpful video! Would the ring road be well maintained in January??
No, volcanoes pop up everywhere early in the year.
Can you do a video on restaurants in Reykjavik, please Jeannie.
I will put it on the list, thanks for the suggestion Julia!
Can we visit the Hot Spring River in Winter?
Wisconsin averages lows warmer than -10c
Thanks for this video! I am considering a trip in March and I watched your video about Iceland in March. Can I expect heavy snow during that time of year? I loved Iceland in the late summer but I am not a huge fan of snow, so I am not too certain about March. I was thinking of going to the Snaefellsnes area or the south. Thanks!
If you don’t like snow I wouldn’t come in March, we still get quite a bit even through April sometimes 😬
Hallo from Greece and kisses! Have you been to going in Greece?
Edit: Sorry, didn't finish the video before commenting. She mentioned what i mentioned, road.is, which i guess is the English version of the same thing. Well, it's still super important so i'll just leave my comment to emphasize how useful it is.
Original Comment:
To add to the vedur.is comment. Get an app called Vegagerdin. It's available at least on Android in English, Italian and Polish, and of course Icelandic. Vegagerdin is our road service and they keep a close eye on road conditions all around the country. You get a color coded description of the road condition, wind, temperature and best of all, you can see screenshots from cameras in select locations to see it with your own eyes.
It's an invaluable tool that you should absolutely use. And no, this is not an ad for the app, it's free and doesn't have anything you need to pay for or even ads. If you don't trust it, you could also just use their website with the same name.
Yes, this is a must have in my opinion! The weather changes so much!
Shall we drive motorbike in march end
Can you recommend any shop in iceland for winter cloth and items. We are coming this november.
The Handknitting Association of Iceland in Reykjavik :)
@@IcelandwithaView thanks jeannie

Nice vids, I'm going the last week of January 2019, if by any chance i see you, i will scream at you something nice :)
Thank you for watching! :)
same do i, book the trip for last week of January, good luck
These are so helpful! I am traveling to Iceland the first 2 weeks of April. Is there still snow cover on the ground? I guess I want to know if all-out snow boots are still needed. Or will hiking boots suffice?
April can still have snow remaining, just depends! I would recommend hiking boots at that time.
Hii am from india
To give you an example of the snow with extreme wind. /watch?v=sSjqaDJiG0c
It's SO intense!
Why am I watching this. I am Icelandic
That is not true it gets over 30 c*
foxie blue it gets to 25 but not 30 lol.
Iceland struggles to reach 20C, let alone 30.
Iceland is been ruined by tourism .
Desperate from this loud mouthed murican. Two wheel drive is all you need as a normal tourist. If you need 4WD then you're an expert off roader or a fool.
