Jeannie's advice is absolutely accurate! We just returned from an amazing week. Definitely plan a longer trip north and/or south if you have time, but the popular sights along Golden Circle are amazing and very convenient to Reyjkavik. 24 hours of daylight in July ! Iceland is so beautiful and unique. Have fun!
I see a lot of videos about those one-lane bridges. How do you prepare for those? Do you wait at one end to let the car pass from the opposite direction? What if you can’t see them and it’s a long bridge, then what? Back up?
would you recommend going to the east fjords or the north west? i’m staying 30 min north of reykjavik with a host family, and the north would be easier to get to, but the east (specifically seydisfjordur) looks gorgeous
Seydisfjordur is stunning and totally worth a visit! You can easily hop on a domestic flight from Reykjavik Airport (RKV) to Egilsstadir (EGS) and rent a car to explore the east!
Hey Jeannie, I'm looking for a good museum to go to that has old viking bones or stuff like that. kids ages 12, 13 and there is 4 of us. We are traveling 2022 feb 18-23
Could have left this with just tip number 5. First four - while correct particularly to Iceland - are just basic common sense and somewhat applicable to most places you travel.
Visited Iceland two weeks ago. Found the country much less expensive compared to earlier visits. The cost of food and fuel was actually lower than at home in the Netherlands.
People who plan to go to Iceland during winter must absolutely be advised that the weather can dramatically change their plans. On our case, we were supposed to go to Höfn but got stuck in Hella because of a storm that lasted an entire day. On a positive note, we ended up booking a room at Loa's Nest and it was just perfect, very caring and lovely owner and great place!
I very much agree! Always have a Plan B if you're traveling anytime between November and April but really, roads can close because of wind and rain which can happen anytime of the year. So happy hear that you still had a wonderful time despite the interruption to your plans!
Love your videos and totally agree on the last point. My favorite moment in Iceland was when I was basically lost on the Snæfellsnes Peninsula trying to find the Hakarl place, stopped the car to check my map and then turned around to see a view that literally took my breath away.
As a former resident of Italy for a number of years, you have to talk to locals and then find the real gems. For me, it's the people and getting invited to their homes.
248,60 ISK for gas was considered "very expensive" 4 years ago. I visited Iceland on July 2022 where gas prices were 348 ISK. Most expensive gas prices I've ever seen. Beautiful country however 😅
We get pretty bad wind storms in the spring where I live. Uprooted trees, power outages, big trucks getting blown off the highway...when weather gets like that, you just have to hunker down! I'll do my best to remember that when I'm in Iceland and not get us stuck out on a dangerously windy day!
When I went to Iceland last year I stayed in the south coast and the golden circle. I was only there for a week though so that worked out. I want to go back and explore other areas.

I've already bought a February 2023 tickets and was planning to circle the Ring Road with my 3 other friends. We've been doing a lot of research and asking around and decided to cancelled the plan and just cover southern+ golden circle due to weather. So sad :(
Thank you for all the great videos Jeannie. Our son is getting married on December 28th and they have decided they want to tie the knot in Iceland! I discovered your channel and have told everyone they need to be watching your videos in preparation for the trip.
My favorite part of our trip was seeing the farmers bring the sheep out of the mountains before winter began and seeing this adorable cottage out at the end of a …I guess it was a lava field that went off into the ocean…I don’t really know what to call it but it was covered in moss and there was a cottage on it and I always dream of what it must be like to live in that adorable little cottage. I’ll never forget it. I love Iceland.
love your videos. I was looking whi/where I could visit and speak with the spiritual people who believe and communicate with the Elven folk. No idea who offers tours travel or information on the topic. thank you
Hi Ron! Thanks so much for watching and what a great question! I've just learned about the Elf School (theelfschool.com/) in Reykjavik and I'm sure they would be great to look into. Let me know what you find out or if you attend the "school" let me know what you think about it!

We live in North Iceland and first thing when we plan our new trip is checking weather forecast :D And road conditions of course :)
I missed the webinar. 😩😩😩. Your videos are super helpful. I’ll be visiting in mid sept for 8 days. Decided not to do ring road bc of all the planning but getting serious fomo. Hoping I can at least do enough day trips that give us that experience but also having a home base gardabaer outside Reykjavík. I can change accommodations if I change my mind but only rented a basic vehicle bc 4ww too expensive. A ring road or not to ring road video would be interesting to me.
Hi, I’m actually from Iceland :D I personally don’t recommend the ring road, especially since you’re only there for eight days. There are so many attractions and nature wonders near Reykjavík. Hope this helped!
I have been 4 times in Iceland in winter, and I was surprised how sunny it was. The weather forecast predicted nothing else than clouds and rain or snow, but once there, there was a lot of sun (and of course also a few snow storms).
spot on on most things. Expect any weather you can have, even in one day... Like we say here "if you don´t like the weather, just wait 20 minutes and you have something different" :D
I have a credit card that is chipped, however, I cannot use a pin without having a cash transfer fee applied. Will my credit card be accepted without a pin, just a signature?
My mistake was booking the flight and car at the same time. The international airport is a 30 minute drive from Reykjavík, plus you'd need to find parking, etc before checking into your hotel. I took a cab to Reykjavík then the next day hired a car from the smaller airport near Reykjavík. The 30-minute cab ride to/from the airport was $150 USD, though.
Im planing to go to iceland soon, only for one day (19 hours) you recommend to rent a car or is better and cheaper to go by bus to blue lagoon and park thingvellir?
Good points. My wife and I just got back from our 2nd visit to Iceland (last July and this July). Driving to the Westfjords, you can drive for a long time before seeing another vehicle. Or gas station. Or store. We stopped in Patreksfjörður to fuel up and get coffee (coffee, often!) and to get food for the night. The grocery store employees said if we waited a while, they would have more supplies. The plane was landing soon. The Westfjords are beautiful, but very, very isolated.
Well good for you. But this IS a video for first time visitors. Her perspective is great for newbies! Icelanders don't think twice about these things since it's not new to them.
Now, you are a cool Icelander! This was helpful. Going in August. Sorted a rental car, VW Golf, a small car but not too small. I won't be off-road or on any roads that are nuts.
Hurricane? in Iceland? Never happens... yes we do get a windy weather BUT no we have never gotten a Hurricane? not that I know of - those 57 years I have lived here.
I want to give a big thank you to Jeannie for all of her videos, the advice is spot on. We just returned from Iceland and had a wonderful trip. Such a lovely country and friendly people. Hope to visit again.
maria jeniffer lima january is alot better than febuary. Febuary is the time when leftover hurricanes (do not know how to write it) come and hit Iceland and it will be over in march if we are lucky
I know off the subject but I know that you recommend a certain camper van company. What is it and how's the best way to contact them? We are coming in September 2024
Thank you for the video !! I’m planning to iceland in July or august - what I’m concerning is the petrol ⛽️- because I’m thinking renting an auto car 🚗 to drive around the island

We are going to Iceland Feb. 22 returning Mar. 7. We fly into Reykjavik, rent a car and drive to Akureyri where we will stay for a week. We have our accommodation booked there. WE are then driving around the east coast back to Reykjavik we we will stay the night of Mar. 6 - already booked. Should we book accommodation for each of the other nights on our journey back to Reykjavik or would it be best to not book in case of weather? If we book I was thinking of staying around Egilsstadir one night, Hofn one night, Vik one night and then Reykjavik. Is this doable? If the weather is good will that be too many stops? If it the weather is bad will this work? We hope to hit the Snaefellsjokull peninsula on a day trip from Reykjavik and one day going North to Gullfoss and area. Your help would be much appreciated!!

prices are a little bit higher, but thay has bigger salary as werll, than prices are problem only for turists. fuel is not problem. fuel is around 25% higher price than in europe. Hamburgers are real problem. Thay cost 4-5 times more than in europe. lol
Karlee Mezquita i can answer your question. I am from Iceland. 1. The weather would problably be getting more sunny, less storms. 2. It’s 24 hours of brightness/daylight, never dark out.
i spend 10days from 11-22 may wetaher has changing constantly, i take my jacket from skii, warm but light and waterproof now, sporty boots are ok but i take trapers , 10degree c was always but 2times i need gloves , i have scarf big which i ise to the head ,first days was sunny ,nice i have two trip (reykaness and south with jokursarlon galcier lagoon alitlle foggy )and 3 days recognize a reyjkajvik some small rain dont disturbe coz i go to harpa,,after was awfull2 days rain all the time and windy i go to shop only and have relief that i decide to moved when weather was good ,next day i go to golden cirle was sunny but windy after was rain in rejkjavik ,even snowballs but sunny was on the horozint that why i go to park and shore after i have wonderfull sneefelsness pennisula trip with clear sky and rejkjavik in this time rain ,foggy
Going alone for 3-4 days towards the end of September. I don't want to rent a car because I don't feel safe driving alone especially since I live in Texas where there is zero ice in the roads😝Are there tours I can take? and where is the best place to stay to see the Northern Lights?
During the August and September months are there buses that go from Rekjavik to Northern Iceland at affordable rates? Please explain the bus situation and how to get around the island without renting a car.
was just in Iceland, my 2nd time there, I just pack for rain and wind and go about my business. The whale watching was canceled...AGAIN...but I will just try next time. I hate driving and I always book tours to include a meal! and I stay at a guest house, not a hotel. Thorsmork is fabulous, but umm, I don't think you should encourage anyone to drive a rental car there. and just avoid Blue Lagoon, there are other better places
I find that you often take an enormous amount of time to get to the point. Just start the video with...if you are going to iceland...planning matters...here are my top tips...number 1. Sitting through 2 mins of faffing around is frustrating.
SevyShasha you are so right. The UA-camrs do this to prolong the video and get more likes, comments wether positive or negative. The longer you keep watching the more chance this channel will be promoted. We actually helped her with our commenta.

Thank you sir! I know it's tempting to try to cram everything in, but ya can't forget to take time and enjoy the ride :)
Ok I'm from Iceland so I just want to listen to the mistakes haha
Haha that comment is so funny!! Any more mistaskes I should be aware of before i visit iceland?:)
I know I should not ask this but still asking what is the minimum monthly rent for 4 memeber family... If they plan to move Iceland permanently.
Same 😂

This is a very good channel and the information is golden - but please add timestamps to the video to increase the quality by 21.36%
So.... my plan to travel to Iceland next summer and drive my Mazda MX-5 (Miata) on the ring road and to the sights is not a good idea???
RJ B, Would not recommend it.
Hi!! We are going to icelaand in july, we are thinking to rent a car, how much is the gasoline price there? And how is the weather in july?
Do you live ther
I am so sorry for you, no one should live in a country like Iceland! I wish you all the best.

You are beutiful!! HI FROM PERU :)
Bimbo is mentioning the ones thar are so stupidly obvious. Why she's not mentioning the rotten egg smell in water? Gosh!

Yes, I am so happy to hear that Dan! What was your favorite place in the South?
When I went to Iceland last year I stayed in the south coast and the golden circle. I was only there for a week though so that worked out. I want to go back and explore other areas.

Can you update this and remind people not to book with Icelandair. Apparently the economic crisis is over to back to greed and profit vs humanity
You had me ready to pack and make reservations. Until I saw this video. This one video convinced me Iceland is not for me.

Sorry I’m curious what you mean. I’m going soon and I booked a rental car, does it not pick up at the airport??
@@jenniferc6165 that’s not his advise. He suggested people to get a rental in town instead of the airport. But the cab cost him 150. Lol
The flybus from the airport is way cheaper than a taxi
If I am coming end of May do I need a 4x4 truck and except snowy roads in the summer?
Im planing to go to iceland soon, only for one day (19 hours) you recommend to rent a car or is better and cheaper to go by bus to blue lagoon and park thingvellir?

You say Icelandic famous windstorm Is Hurricane 🤔 I am from iceland I like go out bad weather
Well good for you. But this IS a video for first time visitors. Her perspective is great for newbies! Icelanders don't think twice about these things since it's not new to them.
No one in the whole world can pronounce your name so learn english, change your name, and smarten up
I remember the whole winter-daylight vs summer-daylight thing. 😀
We are from Montréal and going to visit your country this July and found out about your channel/video and I enjoyed all of them. Please continue ;-)
Al Martin She is originally from America.
Cheah Alan I know but she is living there now so it has become HER country !!!!
Thanks for your support Al! Enjoy your trip this summer :)
So you know all the Icelanders then?
Now, you are a cool Icelander! This was helpful. Going in August. Sorted a rental car, VW Golf, a small car but not too small. I won't be off-road or on any roads that are nuts.
I am planning a trip and would have never thought to bring crampons until I started watching Jeannie´s videos. Who would have thought, lol
Hurricane? in Iceland? Never happens... yes we do get a windy weather BUT no we have never gotten a Hurricane? not that I know of - those 57 years I have lived here.
She is a liar .
Guðbjörg Gísladóttir no not a hurricane actually, she was just saying that because of how windy I’m sure you know it can get. 100+ miles per hr
Hi! Where can I find a road map like the one Jeannie was using on this video? Thanks!
I want to give a big thank you to Jeannie for all of her videos, the advice is spot on. We just returned from Iceland and had a wonderful trip. Such a lovely country and friendly people. Hope to visit again.
Thank you for your Tipps. It was amazing. Best is the Viking restaurant. We was there November 2021
Love your info,I'll be in Iceland in 5 Weeks.
Hi Jeannie, will you be running your webinar again? I've just discovered your channel!
Do you talk about Fjadrargljufur in any of your videos?? I’m visiting next month and can’t get a clear answer on if it’s open to visitors.
Five years after this video was released and its still valuable.
If it's miserable in the east, go west or north, and visa versa
1. Cost

I go on 26,27 and 28 January. Is it really too cold? Can I enjoy the rides well?

Hi! Here is a link to Happy Campers! bit.ly/RentHappyCampers
Circa how much it costs to hire a wedding photographer and videographer in Iceland ?
Thank you for the video !! I’m planning to iceland in July or august - what I’m concerning is the petrol ⛽️- because I’m thinking renting an auto car 🚗 to drive around the island
Jeannie, you are absolutely awesome!
Have you learned to speak Icelandic?
fuel price has actually gone down a bit 30 krónur = 30 cents per liter
I want to travel around the island by bicycle you suggest July or August to try this?
Hi 🙋🏻♀️, Love your channel 💞.....
Wanted to know if showers 🚿 are available for tourists that are camping during the month of October? It seems certain spots open or close depending on the time of the year you travel.
You can use the public swimmingpools for showering. Most of camping sites close down for winter because no one in their right mind will camp out in winter plus the camping fields will get damaged.
that's double the fuel price in canada which is double that of the states!
Hi Jeannie,
With WOW Air besides the 1 L re-fill water than you can bring in hand , bring things in the pockets and where the heaviest clothes there is some more tricks that you can do in order to bring more things only using your Free Personal Item without paying lugagge fees
Great tips, thanks Diego!
Always love to watch all your preparing for icaland videos ♡
Thank you! More to come!
Have you touched on the subject of cycling in Iceland? I've been looking into bikepacking there and would love any advice you might have!
How was your trip..? About the costs etc..
One mistake I made was opening my car door on a very windy day.
Your mistake was not to park it depending on the wind :D
Oh yeah - I've made that mistake before but you learn quickly!
5:32 its a farm! Its normal to us to have to drive all the way to a small town to get groserys
We made the mistake of not bringing extra short sleeve shirts or shorts to Iceland when we went in July
How about now???? more than 4 years later!
Thinkim to go via nordic visitor
I got scamed i thought it was city design mistakes
Where can I buy the Iceland map on the wall?

Karlee Mezquita i can answer your question. I am from Iceland. 1. The weather would problably be getting more sunny, less storms. 2. It’s 24 hours of brightness/daylight, never dark out.

Hey Karlee, I have a video about summer weather and daylight hours: ua-cam.com/video/6kMoaryWe6I/v-deo.html
Too much waffle prior to start.
Going alone for 3-4 days towards the end of September. I don't want to rent a car because I don't feel safe driving alone especially since I live in Texas where there is zero ice in the roads😝Are there tours I can take? and where is the best place to stay to see the Northern Lights?
Definitely plenty of tour companies that could take you to some great places in Iceland and see the northern lights!
OMG, that photo with goats on roofs!!
During the August and September months are there buses that go from Rekjavik to Northern Iceland at affordable rates? Please explain the bus situation and how to get around the island without renting a car.
Yes - you can check into Reykjavik Excursions for routes!
The webinar has ended.... can I send u my plan to review please?
Hey Deb! I would love to review your itinerary, here's my info: bit.ly/IcelandItineraryReview
can we travel by public ransportation to the golden circle?
Tasha Medinna unfortunately only tours
You have Good information in your videos. We are visiting Iceland in July. You should a do a video about renting a car or take a bus tour.
Andrew Blithe I'm thinking July
Thanks Andrew! I have a video about the other transportation options that you can check out!
July is a good month for iceland
Please add subtitles
Where is that hut in the thumbnail? I've been searching fossfiroi but nothing shows :(
Hi! Thank you for watching! This is in the Westfjords.
was just in Iceland, my 2nd time there, I just pack for rain and wind and go about my business. The whale watching was canceled...AGAIN...but I will just try next time. I hate driving and I always book tours to include a meal! and I stay at a guest house, not a hotel. Thorsmork is fabulous, but umm, I don't think you should encourage anyone to drive a rental car there.
and just avoid Blue Lagoon, there are other better places
best icelandic tour guide! :)
Thanks for these videos - heading to Reykjavik in T minus 6 days and I appreciate the info! Cheers!
WOOOHOOO! I hope you have the best.trip.ever!! Thanks for watching! :)
Is there an upcoming webinar as indicated at the end of the video? I don't see the link for one?
Yes it is in the works! Thanks for watching! :)
Thank you very much
Wtf👹
Where can I find the planning webinar?
Thanks Jeannie, great advice .
You're very welcome James :)
But seriously, how _do_ they get their groceries?
They don't
Do you recommend to rent a car online before arriving or is it possible to wait until I get there and see?
I highly recommending reserving everything as early as possible - definitely don't want to wait or you can end up spending more money!
