Thanks Jorrik for checking out the review. Your feedback means alot to me. I hope I can get my hands on the XK-RS one day. Loved the videos you posted on that car !
Thank you, Mico ! I really appreciate your feedback ! It was a lovely experience to test this XK and I hope I can test more Jaguars in the future. There's just something magical about the way they make you feel behind the wheel...
Awesome review Guido! While I really enjoy watching your reviews of German cars, I'm really interested to see you continue to review cars from other countries too, like this Jaguar. The soundtrack is awesome, and the car is a great package, I'm just still always scared of the reliability of these cars because of their unreliable products in the past. Until they start establishing a better reputation in that area, I won't consider buying one. Really great review!
Great review, I have a 2010 XK Portfolio and we did a lovely Road trip in May this year over Europe. Just excellent for trips - a Grand Tourer for sure!
+Jeff Temple Thanks Jeff ! I loved the XK. Too bad Jaguar couldn't deliver more cars for testing since this video. I actually even prefer the XK over the F-Type
I agree. In 2016 I planned on buying an F-Type, but after a test drive it became clear this car is very stiff and way too blatant. So I tested a used 2013 XK coupe and fell in love instantly. The XK not only does not make these silly crackling noises all the time, it is just so much smoother and refined, a much better car for the real world. And nothing can beat the smooth purr of that naturally aspirated V8. On top of it: Buying a used low milage XK saved me a lot of money compared to an F Type.
Hi Jeff. I wonder how it is to own a XK in real life. What´s your opinion on the build quality, comfort, milage and going on trip over Europe. Is your car a hard top or convertible? Good luck with your car.
Thank you so much, DT ! My equipment is still far from being professional, so I am very happy that you like this video. Take care ! Guido aka TheGetawayer
I am hoping to get this car in the next three months. I am getting the XK only because the ftype does not get you room to put the seat back enough for us tall people. I mean, you can not fit anyone in that back seat, but for me, a 6’6 person, it is prefect. I have a xk and I love it so much. Comfortable, fast, smooth ride and everyone looks at it and everyone complements it. Because no one in America has them so they are unique. The slap paddles are placed bad. I hit them often with my knee or hand and it’s not good for the engine.
Thank you for this great review. It's my next car in XKR format. We currently have a 2011 XJ with 5.0 V8 and it's a big fast cat:) Although I'll also look at the F-type manual too, I like the larger size of the XKR and sound of the V8.
Once again, a really nice job on this review. I love all the angles. although I am not into Jaguar so much of a Jaguar fan, the car is pretty good and the sound can be aggressive when you want to. Thanks for sharing another good review!
I agree, this is the most refine sport car there is. Crystal Hefner of sport cars, you can't keep your eyes off of the beauty.Once you drive one there is no looking back. XKR Convertible is the way to go. F jag is nice but small.
Man! The way this thing accelerates at high speeds! Jaw dropping! And this sound-music to my ears. It's sporty but not vulgar (vulgar like AMGs). I would buy this car if I only could. Guido - very good review as always.
Thanks, Matt ! I really appreciate your feedback ! I have reached out to a few car-makers after I had the new Boxster from Porsche. Jaguar was one of the first ones to offer me a car and it was a lovely experience. The people that work there have a lot of passion. Reliability is much better now. A german magazine just tested the XF diesel for 100.000 kilometers without having a single issue and owner's reports seem to tell the same story...I really hope I can test more Jaguars. I loved this car
Excellent review!! The XK is one of the most beautiful modern cars, and I especially like it in black. I've never seen that in the transmission before, where the round dial pops up, pretty cool! This is top notch quality, very professional video! Well done! - DT
I loved this review. I currently own a 2005 XJR, and am looking to buy a 2010 XKR. This review echoed my sentiments precisely, but it was also a very well put together piece. Nicely done, Getawayer.
Glad you hear you enjoyed the video, Travis ! I had the chance to drive the XKR and it is a stunning car. I would pick it over the regular XK. Greetings from germany, Guido aka TheGetawayer
Thanks, buddy ! The car felt pretty solid, even with the top down and at high speeds on the autobahn. I actually v-maxed it a few times and it was very planted. The automatic is just lovely...I was lucky with the weather. After I finished filming it changed here too. I think the summer and convertible-season is now over :)
The XK is a great car. I've driven the XKR too and it's even better...I think the second generation XF is much better than the first. Overall I enjoyed the XF, maybe comparing it to its german rivals wasn't fair...Is that what turned you off ?
Keep up the good Work, Guido !!
Thank you for the nice comment ! Berlin and Düsseldorf ? Totally the wrong area : Drive to Frankfurt/Main and from there to the Bergstraße / Odenwald area. It's a driver's paradise :)
Thanks for the comment ! Glad you enjoyed the review. I have driven the XKR, but I don't have a video from that day. If you have any questions, just ask ;) Greetings from germany, TheGetawayer
Hi, great to hear from an actual XK owner: The steering does feel lighter than in most sportscars, because that way it is more comfortable for people to do grand touring with this car. I liked the way it feels eventhough its very different to a Porsche or BMW. Not sure if that answers your question but from here it's all I can tell you. I drove an XKR too and I think only the XKR-S has a heavier steering
Guido, I am not just saying this because I consider you a good friend... but your videos are getting soooo good! They are so professional and make a non-car guy like myself interested in watching a video about cars! So glad you are making videos and improving your craft. I swear every video gets better and better. It's gonna be great when you are super famous and I can say I know you haha! Really like the voice over work here too, I think you could get work doing voice overs! bradass vid!
Thanks for the great video... Its a nice change to see a review from someone who actually understands what a 'GT' car should offer - and then review the car from that perspective! By the way, I totally agree with your comments regrading the ZF 6-speed transmission vs the 7 and 8-speeds on offer elsewhere; the Jag definitely has one of the best powertrain combinations on the market.
Thanks ! I have asked Porsche eversince June for a 991, multiple times actually, but eventhough my 981 review is the 3rd most popular review of this car on UA-cam, they still say that they don't have enough cars and too many requests from big magazines to give me one for a review...
On a side note, I sent you a message on Facebook to let you know that this video didn't show up in my subscription box. I had to actually go to your channel to see it. Just wanted to let you know in case there is some youtube glitch... But anyways, keep up the great work my friend!!
Well, as a package the 911 is a better and faster sportscar. And you know how much I love it, if you've watched my reviews of the 997... But a driver's car is about Grand Touring for me: The combination of comfort on longer trips and a sporty ride when you want it...And that's were the Jaguar really shines for me. Plus the transmission is absolutly astonishing...The XK fits right between a 911 and a 6 Series BMW. It offers you the best of both worlds without feeling like a compromise...
Was soll man da wieder sagen, sehr gelungenes Video ;-) Schönes Auto, hast die wichtigen Dinge angesprochen und die Aufnahmen an sich, waren einfach wieder klasse - wirst echt von Video zu Video besser ! Weiter so !
When I parked the XK while filming, somebody drove by in a C63 T wagon...Boy that car sounds so epic and as a wagon its still the perfect sleeper :) I wish I could get more AMGs for testing, but I've been told that that's gonna be very difficult, because all the big journalists need ( want ) them...Sadly
Really enjoyed, great review. I agree with you, the looks are just right and the sound of the engine with the roof down makes a perfect match. Would be good in the future a comparision with the jaguar XKR-S.
Thanks Alex ! Yes I loved this car, it is amazing and a bit underrated now that it has been on the market for a few years. I've driven the new F-Type V8S and have a short video here on the channel. It sounds impressive, but I was a bit disappointed about the lack of space inside and how heavy it feels compared to a Boxster or SLK. Maybe I can review it later this year. Will have to ask Jaguar for a testcar. Greetings, Guido aka TheGetawayer
How is the lovely engine noise in this Jag XK compared to the engine noise of the supercharged Jag XKR? How is the ride in the the XK compared to the XKR especially when it comes to cornering and on twisted roads?
I know what you mean, but the XK is very underrated as a driver's car. The transmission and the engine are close to being perfect...I have driven it on the most twisty roads I know and v-maxed it on the german autobahn and it never disappointed me...I think anybody that has driven one of these, would be as surprised as I was. The V8 Vantage is available with a 6 speed manual, which is a plus-point as a driver's car, but the automatic transmission in the Jag is much better than the Aston's
Great Review Guido!! Jaguar V8's are one of the best sounding engines, along with AMG V8 engine, it's just a pleasure to hear. I few years ago I was concerned with Jaguar future, when The XJR and XK8 and X-Type were being sold, but I think it's future will be good for Jaguar. Really good looking cars have been made by them. I agree with your opinion, that model would sell a lot more if they put theire Diesel V6, it has enough torque to challenge the V8, it would lack that V8 Orchestra though. :D
Yes, I have driven a car with ZF 6HP26 transmission, albeit in a BMW. And it is very good for an automatic, but I stilll think DCT's are much better, averaging both better economy and 0-100 times. But let's settle this and agree that manual transmission is still the best :) . I hope you get to test drive the 991 soon enough though, I'm sure you will love it!
Thanks ! Well, I drove one and made a short video. I might try to get one for a full review, but Jaguar told me that I can't ask for a testcar before september. I hope I can do it. Greetings from germany, Guido
i think you're doing really well. compared to your beginnings with small bmws and vws, now you're doing frickin v8 supercars :). i really appreciate all of it too. btw are you getting to test the 991 by any chance? would be really interested how it compares to the boxster
Thanks for the comment JM ! I've driven both cars and while the XJ is a very beautiful car to look at and sit in, I would actually get the 7series BMW. Boring I know, but I think it drives better and the Idrive is just miles better than the Jaguar system. Greetings, Guido aka TheGetawayer
I still haven't had the chance to drive the 991 and Porsche keeps me waiting to get one for a review, but I do think that the 6 speed ZF is better than the Mk.1 PDK in a 997...Nothing beats a manual, of course, but you will struggle to find a better fully automatic transmission than the one in the XK. I don't know if you have driven one yourself, but for me it is dead impressive how intuitive it works. I never had to fight with it, in any driving situation...It's like a perfect servant...
It would be my pleasure to review the new F-Type. Looks like one of the most exciting cars to hit the market next year. Thanks for watching the video ! I'm glad you enjoyed it !
Hello Getaweyer, what do you think bmw7.30d vs xj 3.0d. Which car is better in your opinion. I think you are doing one of the best reviews in here!! Take care J.M
Great review! The XK is currently one of the best grandtourers and certainly very good value for money. Like to see more of Your reviews. How about the new F-Type, especially that one with the V8 engine?
thank you. well i havent driven either, but recently what was obviously a mercedes dealer moved a lot of them.. meaning about 10 of them drove by me on the vienna city autobahn.. all of them 55 or 63 amg, different models in a tunnel one of them stepped on the gas just a little.. meaning he didnt visibly accelerate very much.. but he was still as loud as many cars under full throttle :) and i do mean loud, because a mp4-12c flew by me yesterday and i think the amg would be louder :)
I try to drive as hard as it is legal here in germany, so I actually reached topspeed on the autobahn ( indicated 263 km'h , which you can't see in the video but it was flat-out hitting the limiter ) and I drive the car on some very twisty broads...I think it handles very well, but as I said the steering feels more like the one in a limousine than like in a sportscar like a 911...I still like it and the car corners pretty well in my opinion. Maybe you should take it to the track yourself ?
Fab review and insight into this car, you never said how it compared to a BMW 6 series or Merc SL or Audi A5 / S5 etc . Sounds like you were Smitten with the Kitten ?? !!
Love that V8 sound. I have been thinking that dual clutch gearboxes are now the best thing when we are talkin about gearboxes. But maybe i should test proper normal automatic like that in Jaguar. How stiff the car body was, because it is more like cabriolet than roadster? Many thanks for great review! ps. you still have nice weather there..
i do own a bmw 3 series . the car itself gains control in evry part of the tarmac .. but when i sit on the XKR , the steering itself makes me to feel tat i shudnt cross my limits ..so , have you tested the xkr beyond its limits ? can it atleast handle little of those corners ? atelast without drifting ?
Everybody says that the new 991 is surprisingly comfortable and yet as sporty as 911 should be, so I still think it is better. And real drivers wouldn't get the Jag anyway with it's old-news 6 speed auto. You do have a point about it being more intimate than some new dual clutch 8 speeds, but real drivers would get the 6-speed manual! Or, actually, 7-speed in Porsche's case :)
Well, while they both might have V8 engines, they are still very different cars and have different characters...The SLK 55 is almost vulgar, because it is so loud, but I love that...I think it was my favourite car for reviewing this year, just because of that noise... The Jag is a much bigger car, eventhough it doesn't feel like that from the inside. Its engine sounds great, but this basemodel is nowhere near as fast as the SLK 55...I drove the XKR recently. That's a very different story :)
you have great videos, but please tell me where i find these great roads in germany? =) you always drive in some twisty country roads, i still havent been able to to find great driving roads in germany. ive tryed to search them so far in berlin and dusseldorf region...
How about getting your hands on a F-Type V8-S Guido ? I thought your XK 5.0 V8 review was very well balanced and certainly gives a Brit like me a more accurate insight in how the German psyche views a product like Jaguar.....
in the 5.0l Portfolio or the XKR trim would you take the cabrio or the coupe? never had a convertible but I've been told the trunk space is terrible in the cabrio and there are lots of rattles and squeeks as you drive it.
I drove the XKR and the performance was just stunning. I think I would go for the R and have the Coupe. I tested this and the XKR convertible, which were great car with no squeeks and rattles, but I only drove them for a few days. I hope that helps, I always recommend test driving the car before buying it of course
i have driven the f-type coupe and convertible. the convertible was way more fun to drive. of course it doesn't have much space in the trunk but who cares?
awesome! so how does it compare to the slk 55 amg? please dont evolve into some 0815 reviewer who says every car is good. lol. there must be something better and worse when comparing these 2 "light" v8 sports cars also i have to mention how much i appreciate these old normally aspirated engines that they just develop to perfection.. just like porsche, taking the the decade old flat 6 design and just improve upon it with every generation, making it better each time while preserving the old flair
As a XK owner I enjoyed your review, which pretty much agrees with my assessment of living with the car on a day to day basis.
Thanks buddy ! It felt pretty special to test drive and film this car. I loved every minute of it.
We need more Guido reviews of Jaguars....period!!

As always, another fantastic review and well put together, keep up the excellent work.
Thank you very much, Marcus !
My Wifw and just bought a 2013 Coupe. Cant wait for delivery.
Happy with the car? :)
Jags are amoung the best sounding V8 cars I've ever driven. And remember this is just the base engine, the XKR and XKR-S sound much more agressive :)
Fl
Love that V8 - I bought the portfolio convertible so I can take the roof down and hear it even more!
tayloralastair Who needs a radio.

Great review and delivery of your feedback. Subscribed as want to see more. Currently looking at potentially getting one of these as an XKR.
Thanks, JR ! Always a pleasure to read a comment from you, my friend ! Take care
thankq for ur kind response :) i would value it .
Thank you very much ! I really appreciate your feedback !
2019...and this car still 'cuts the mustard' in my opinion. Possibly the best GT ever produced......
That's great to hear ! Thanks for the compliment, buddy !
Thanks for the kind words, buddy !
Thanks for the feedback, my friend ! It really goes and sounds beautiful
Well done Guido I have come to the conclusion it’s your fault I’ve had to go buy one ! 🤦🏼♂️
Haha, hope you enjoy it to the fullest, Andrew! :)
I really liked your reveiw Guido. Thanks!
Thank you for this great review. It's my next car in XKR format. We currently have a 2011 XJ with 5.0 V8 and it's a big fast cat:) Although I'll also look at the F-type manual too, I like the larger size of the XKR and sound of the V8.
Thanks, buddy ! It's obvious that I have a heavy accent, which I can't really change :) Glad you enjoyed the review !
Once again, a really nice job on this review. I love all the angles. although I am not into Jaguar so much of a Jaguar fan, the car is pretty good and the sound can be aggressive when you want to. Thanks for sharing another good review!
i love this review of one of my favourite cars. I have seen it at least 15 times. Thanks.😀

Thanks buddy ! The transmission is really one of the things that impressed me the most driving the XK...Easly one of the best systems on the market
Excellent review!! The XK is one of the most beautiful modern cars, and I especially like it in black. I've never seen that in the transmission before, where the round dial pops up, pretty cool! This is top notch quality, very professional video! Well done!

I read alot about these cars and know they are great cars, but I didn't realize how great it sounded 'till your video - nice review
I loved this review. I currently own a 2005 XJR, and am looking to buy a 2010 XKR. This review echoed my sentiments precisely, but it was also a very well put together piece. Nicely done, Getawayer.

Do you think it could become a classic now they've stopped production. I have a 2008 XKR convertible but i am hesitant to sell it.
Thanks, buddy ! The car felt pretty solid, even with the top down and at high speeds on the autobahn. I actually v-maxed it a few times and it was very planted. Glad to see that you gave the XK such a positive review. Disagreed with you in the past re your review of my ex XF.

Great, like it...
Lovely sounds of the v8
Thanks ! Well, I drove one and made a short video. I might try to get one for a full review, but Jaguar told me that I can't ask for a testcar before september. I hope I can do it. Greetings from germany, Guido
So glad they didn't make a diesel! The used market isn't filled full of rubbish versions as a result.
You are right: It has a spray-guided multipoint direct-injection
i think you're doing really well. compared to your beginnings with small bmws and vws, now you're doing frickin v8 supercars :). i really appreciate all of it too. btw are you getting to test the 991 by any chance? would be really interested how it compares to the boxster
I never had to fight with it, in any driving situation...It's like a perfect servant...
amazing review, i love the xk
It would be my pleasure to review the new F-Type. Looks like one of the most exciting cars to hit the market next year. Thanks for watching the video ! I'm glad you enjoyed it !
Hello Getaweyer, what do you think bmw7.30d vs xj 3.0d. Which car is better in your opinion. I think you are doing one of the best reviews in here!! Take care J.M
Great review! The XK is currently one of the best grandtourers and certainly very good value for money. Like to see more of Your reviews. How about the new F-Type, especially that one with the V8 engine?
thank you. well i havent driven either, but recently what was obviously a mercedes dealer moved a lot of them.. meaning about 10 of them drove by me on the vienna city autobahn.. all of them 55 or 63 amg, different models
in a tunnel one of them stepped on the gas just a little.. meaning he didnt visibly accelerate very much.. but he was still as loud as many cars under full throttle :)
and i do mean loud, because a mp4-12c flew by me yesterday and i think the amg would be louder :)
Great vid. Isn't the V8 DFI?
Love that V8 sound. I have been thinking that dual clutch gearboxes are now the best thing when we are talkin about gearboxes. But maybe i should test proper normal automatic like that in Jaguar. How stiff the car body was, because it is more like cabriolet than roadster?
Many thanks for great review!
ps. you still have nice weather there..
Lol you sound almost like narrator from old best motoring(BMI) videos :) Good video !
Would like to see a review of Jaguar F Type maybe in the future.
Great video! one question, which camera do you use to record? keep the good work!
Great review, thanks ever so much
Glad you liked it !
In the video he states that the 5.0L V8 has multi port fuel injection but I thought the AJ133 had direct injection only?
i do own a bmw 3 series . the car itself gains control in evry part of the tarmac .. but when i sit on the XKR , the steering itself makes me to feel tat i shudnt cross my limits ..so , have you tested the xkr beyond its limits ? can it atleast handle little of those corners ? atelast without drifting ?
The XKRS, which I own one on Italian racing red, also has light steering unfortunately. It's still a bloody riot!!!!!
Awesome car, awesome video!
TheGetawayer you're voice...reminiscent of a hilarious skit from SnL (early 90's), Hans and Franz :)
Thank you for the great review, can you please do a review for the Supercharged XKR.
in the 5.0l Portfolio or the XKR trim would you take the cabrio or the coupe? never had a convertible but I've been told the trunk space is terrible in the cabrio and there are lots of rattles and squeeks as you drive it.
TheGetawayer Hi thanks for the input. I actually went with 09 Maserati Granturismo S automatic. Love the sounds, the design and performance.
Beautiful Jag. And... did you say 6'4? 😍
awesome! so how does it compare to the slk 55 amg? please dont evolve into some 0815 reviewer who says every car is good. lol. there must be something better and worse when comparing these 2 "light" v8 sports cars
also i have to mention how much i appreciate these old normally aspirated engines that they just develop to perfection.. just like porsche, taking the the decade old flat 6 design and just improve upon it with every generation, making it better each time while preserving the old flair
hi , i just purchased a new jaguar xkr 2012 . im having a really nice time . but my concern is , y does the steering wheel feel so light .
