You are beautiful but I've got to fill you in on a little truth and true History. The song was originally written by Alger in the 80s for Tanya Tucker and was shelved. It wasn't until 1991 Brooks decided to leave out the controversial 3rd and 4th (yes a 4th) verses, but since 2001 Brooks here and there sings the 3rd verse during some live performances (depending on the crowd). The original is from a female's perspective where the man shoots the woman for going astray. It's all really dark but no, State Of Mine did not add anything, in fact they also left out the 3rd verse, but credit to Brandon Davis for super-imposing the 3rd verse to blend in with the original screwed up waste of a recording that SOM did.
