    This kind of tillage & planting has been promoted since the 1960s. The term then was "plow-plant" or "no-till" with the idea that a single-pass operation would save costs over the multiple operation of tillage of conventional farming. In practice the minimum tillage methods needed to match the soil moisture conditions, soil types, and weather conditions of the season. One method might work fine in a particular soil type and moisture conditions but fail to work when the narrow window of the planting season dictated that the crop must go in the ground.

    I can't make up my mind whether it is no-till if the seeder is the tilling tool. Very impressive. That seeder works up the ground, cuts the stalks, and buries the residue, producing a seedbed ready for plant- oh wait! Case IH getting it done. :) Also, please say thank you to your friend for inviting you and us into his farm and day. It's great to hear his explanations and thoughts. Cheers!

    I see why they upgraded their tractor! In this video, he said he could do about 200 acres per day. In the video from October 2021 with an articulated Case he said 300-400 acres depending on the terrain with the same seeding setup!

    Never seen winter wheat no-tilled into corn stubble before. I'm interested in seeing what the crop looks like in spring and at harvest.

    • @bobbychandler1293
      @bobbychandler1293 3 роки тому

      Its just like any other crop. If every thing goes right it does really good. It just depends on the weather.

      A really wild (west) job this no-till system. Especially without smoothing the corn stubble before.

    Pretty sweet rig
    No trouble going right into corn stubble for hair pinning though? Sometimes I wonder if fishing is even enough but I don’t have much experience with corn

    • @bigtractorpower
      @bigtractorpower  11 місяців тому

      No hair pinning that I know of. The wheat comes up well. Planting soybeans into wheat straw does see some hair pinning.

    I wander if it makes any difference if you run a chopper head or a regular corn head as far as the drills performance putting the seed in the ground?

    • @bobbychandler1293
      @bobbychandler1293 3 роки тому +1

      The chopping corn heads make it harder to get the seed in the ground. For planting you want little to no residue. But I do think the chopper helps the stalks break down faster.

    • @sharpshooter7127
      @sharpshooter7127 3 роки тому +1

      @@bobbychandler1293 10-4 we either disc harrow before we plant wheat or either use a no-till drill behind peanuts and maybe some behind corn.
