You mean south gate of the stadium
History repeats itself, football wasn't coming home this time either.
I mean its all on Southgate, would would you wait with Rashford until last minute ? Harry Kane didnt do anything and Italy were tired after 90 minutes , someone like Rashford with his pace would have a chance to score. Would would you wait on penalties if you lost on penalties on Wembley before ?

Southgate wanted more people to experience this.
So considerate, he's sharing memories!
In all seriousness tho, poor Saka he didn't have to do this.
😂😂 he certainly achieved his objective
It was the worst decision ever to put all the pressure of an entire title on a 19 year old
@@ludwigvanbeethoven61 No it wasn't. The data shows young players score more often than more experienced ones.

I still reckon it's one of the best shootouts that I've ever seen. The quality of the penalties was superb. Into the side netting or the roof more often than not. England has no reason to be ashamed, they played the shootout as well as anyone. Well done England and Germany.
GaelicMagyar shootouts are a let down in themselves, nobody wants to see Penalty’s unless your a child
I agree. Every shot was drilled in with precision and yes it looks rather Wagnerian. The only downside was the after shock when English fans torched German cars in near trafalgar square . It was a dispicable act of mindless thuggery and it was back to square one and the old chestnut which some call 'The English Disease'. I was almost arrested that night and my crime was just to 'a cheerful German' . The coppers said to me : 'move on or we have to arrest you for your own safety'! Tounge in cheek they call it. I just call it bitter. The title holders Germany crashed out in russia BUT i am not bitter. Seems a regular route for grand title holders anyway ie France in in 2002, Italy in 2010, Spain in 2014 and now us lot BUT as Arnie would say "I or rather WE'll be back". Good luck with colombia tomorrow amigos.
It's just interesting where the sport was at in 1996. I think the keepers are much better prepared for penalties nowadays. But still... look at those goals!

Better shooting than what we´ve just seen at the world cup.
Cause gk are now better
@@Jack-ic5us i think that shooters are just worse ;)
@@snulek It actually is just harder to take penalties now. Games are faster and more physically demanding now than they were in the past, meaning that players are more tired by the time it gets to penalties. The more tired players naturally end up taking worse penalties. On top of that, we have the Internet today. GKs and GK coaches can easily find and study footage of shooters taking penalties, and has probably played a big role in boosting GK performances.
@@Klako-ls6yt True but most of the shots in this shootout are high and would be unstoppable even for a modern GK.
@@Klako-ls6yt How can it possibly be a more physically demanding game nowadays when it has become virtually a non contact sport? You can't even tackle because of the fear of giving away a penalty or free kick due to a non existent foul. Besides, Kane and Maguire both took great penalties against Italy when they had been on the pitch for the entire 120 minutes of that Euro final. It didn't affect them, while the untired three that came on as substitutes and were therefore fresher - how well did they do with their penalties exactly?

Southgate choked again with his pens lineup today.
To be fair on England, they didn't do too bad, only missing one after like what, 6 shots? That's very decent
+Anon P
lol Because England's penalty taking wasn't looked at as bad back then or even immediately after this as they did well in this shootout, not "didn't do too bad"....before this shootout their record was won 1, lost 1 so it's not surprising they took the first 5 really well, particularly as this was for a place in the final to be strong favorites to lift the trophy. They weren't looked at as a bad team in general or one that wasn't perfectly capable of winning major tournaments. Penalty takers such as Shearer, Platt & Gascoigne never thought they'd miss so back then England were guaranteed to score at least 3 out of the first 5. Pearce & Sheringham are more reliable than unreliable under enormous pressure so that gave them a good chance to score all 5 before sudden death which they did quite comfortably as it turned out. Against most other teams that would've been enough to win, I think TonyAdams should've taken the 6th though, many people say Ince and also many people say Anderton & McManaman but if I was to choose the 6th myself it would've been Adams the captain (that's out of what was available having not made any substitutions but if I were the manager I would've made some subs in the game for starters but especially if it's approaching the end of the 120mins I'd bring on LesFerdinand & Fowler just to take a penalty instead of Southgate and probably McManaman or Ince as they weren't brave enough to put their hand up to take any of the first 6).
To sum it up, both teams were right about equal all the way, every penalty expertly executed except for one stinker that cost England the match. It's sudden death and up steps a novice like Southgate with a pathetic attempt at that level when they had better options. Then up steps Andy Moller, a highly experienced captain to score like a boss. Strategic error. England lost because of having someone like Southgate take a penalty, who had no business taking a crucial penalty.
it was an amazing game, wonderfully played by both teams.
@@josephd.2725 It wasn't as bad as Zola's which Kopka saved even more easily which was just as costly to his nation in these championships.
Zola was as experienced as Möller if not more experienced and obviously very talented and it was a worse pen than this from Southgate. CzechRep only drew their last group game with Russia but even if they'd won, Italy would've still progressed instead with any win vs Germany but the penalty miss meant they only drew and were eliminated.
Gareth Southgate Won't have Flashbacks Anymore🏴
don't blame the 19 yrs old kid, it's Southgate who should take full responsibility again
It’s almost borderline unbelievable rashford and sancho both failed to score it sucks man but I’m happy we were there

Never noticed how skinny Möller was, you really notice when he's doing that gay celebration how tiny his arms were, considering he wasn't that tall either he must have been very light weight, surprising he was allowed to have the career he had, players should've just bullied him off the park, not allowed him to have the ball to creative things, just out muscle him.
Looks like the England fans are still salty after 20 years
Different to what you thought, he was born in an athlete family, started training in early childhood and physically quite strong. If you look at his past matches you can see his strength in shooting and his speed when running. He looks skinny because he basically has little fat but only muscle.
Its not important how skinny he was!! They win with thin arms and strong charakters!
Something to be said about most of these successful penalties is the long run up and being hit with power. I'm really not a fan of the whole hop, skip and a jump, or lots of pitter patter steps. Just put your laces through it!
Too many players don’t want to do a Baggio. But the best pk is upper 90. The second best pk is a roofer that isn’t up the middle. Anything at medium height or low is in danger of being stopped if the goalie guesses right.

+Attan Absolutely, it's a shame that there are no gifs of this brilliant troll move ! 😂
Attan if Im not wrong that was a kind of typical dance from Germany...any german could confirm o denied it please??
Andy Möller was a ginius! For Dortmund and Schalke
@@arequipien nah
@@arequipien Pretty sure it was more like posing like some german commander. if my memory doesn't fail me the day before the match an english news paper (the sun?) published something like " germany failed to invade in the 40's and they will fail again". But in an interview he said he did it because he was just happy and proud to win, nothing more
Its Not Coming Home.
its going to Rome
Anyone here after they found out that it's not coming home?
Notice how much cooler and calmer the Germans are?
Well there you go.
SHUT UP
but it is so true
yes steven shut up english and learn how to play football !!!!
Tika Sen Your a troll.
Fred Staples I couldn't even keep calm and I was a nine year old sitting at home, I can't imagine what it would be like at a home ground, against a footballing rival
It’s coming romeeeeeee
Andy Moeller's stance at the end always makes me laugh :)
Who is here, after Southgate decided the last three penalties should be from 3 young players and the all kicked it away?
Yup
Rashford and Sancho are the best penalty takers in their team, apart from Kane. And both of them, especially Rashford, although young, they are quite experienced at the big stage already. Do people think that older players don’t feel the pressure as well?
No at BVB nobody can make penalties, not even Haaland or Reus.
I think Southgate has redeemed himself now
David Cox looool so proud
David Cox only when we’ve won the World Cup is he redeemed
James Powlett fucking hell asking abit much not like we would have even won that final game
God will give him the World Cup on Sunday and England will make history.
Definitely. In his own mind also I hope.
The most beautiful match. Germany national team. Invincible. The strength of the England team. Unforgettable match. . I take away Germany. The European Nations Cup deservedly.
History did repeat yesterday.
Gareth's penalty did scored. Took 25 years to get into nets at Wembley.
2-0 here. Good job Gareth.
Maybe the longest penalty attempt ever in football history.
