The way he left isn't sour. won the CL again and received standing ovations by the fans in bernabeu during the night of celebration. didn't play much part last season but at least they can give him a sweet goodbye
Imagine if he'd left Real after the final against Liverpool. It was clear at the time that Zidane didn't see him as a starter. But at 28 and having just scored two goals to win the Champions' League - including one of the all-time great UCL goals - he'd have left in triumph and been able to go anywhere he wanted. We'd likely have seen a lot more of Bale on the pitch over the last few years, and hopefully he'd have been able to keep his love of the game, which seemed from the outside to suffer so much.
Part of the reason he didn't leave then was Cristiano Ronaldo's move to Juventus that summer, Florentino wasn't about to lose both his major signings in one off season so that's why he fought to keep Bale that summer plus with Ronaldo gone it was supposed to be Bale's time to shine as the talisman for Real, except that role became Benzema's once he just took the mantle
Though we shouldn't criticize zidane for what he achieved in RM but to put Bale in Right wing was a disaster for Bale's career. Had he played as left wing like he used to in Spurs he would have shined more. But Madrid setup then was left heavy, both Ronaldo, Benzema, tend to move to left when they dig deep.
He simply got wrecked by injuries and couldn't get a run of games for match fitness. Injuries+aging made him loose that unbelievable pace he possessed, and he just couldn't re invent himself just like Cristiano Ronaldo who went from lightening quick winger to clinical striker. Bale didn't or couldn't and so was just stuck and continued to loose interest in the game. The mediocre Welsh team didn't help matters.
