SCP-049 is a humanoid entity, roughly 1.9 meters in height, which bears the appearance of a medieval plague doctor.
SCP 049 will become hostile with individuals it sees as being affected by the Pestilence, often having to be restrained should it encounter such. If left unchecked, SCP049 will generally attempt to kill any such individual; SCP-049 is capable of causing all biological functions of an organism to cease through direct skin contact. How this occurs is currently unknown, and autopsies of SCP-049's victims have invariably been inconclusive. SCP-049 has expressed frustration or remorse after these killings, indicating that they have done little to kill "The Pestilence", though will usually seek to then perform a crude surgery on the corpse using the implements contained within a black doctor's bag it carries on its person at all times3. While these surgeries are not always "successful", they often result in the creation of instances of SCP-049-2.

Potential origins for SCP-035 & SCP-049. I was not expecting that. Then again, it makes sense that both may have their origins in Alagadda. The land of the Hanged King (SCP-2264-5) is very fascinating, & the idea that these particular SCPs came from it makes sense. Although it makes me wonder how the Black Lord lost his face (SCP-035) in the Foundation’s dimension.

They are from Alagadda. 035 lost his face shortly after trying to free the hanged king, and it is known that 049 is the king's nephew, as the son of Miss Moon, the king's older sister.

SCP-049 not being able to remember his origins other than his purpose of being a plague doctor is very interesting, because he has lived for so long he may either forgotten his origins or if he really did came from alagadda.
Before, I was intimidated by 049 because of that mask and dark robe and menacing eyes, but now I see him as a polite gentleman just doing his job
Basically what he is, but he does feel quite different now seeing how unfailingly polite he is
Reminds me of the dark and brooding characters that also have a good side,like raven from teen titans or Tokoyami from my hero academia

As much as I enjoy these origin stories, I do think I preferred hearing about random SCP's for the first time. However, your work never disappoints.
Thank you! That was this channel’s thing. It’s now yet another SCP Explained channel, but better drawn and animated. I wonder if the Patrons has something to do with it, or the analytics just isn’t doing well compared to the pop culture crossovers. Which is a shame. I still support Doc Bob, but it’s been months since we got exactly that.
I must say that this story had everything, a possible response to 049's appearance, the possible connection he has with 035 (or at least because he knows him) and most importantly, one of the few appearances of 035 as "Black Lord of Alagadda", which aligns with the more recent stories 035 has been used in (specifically SCP 6500, a nice long story that's still under construction, but one I highly recommend).
I have always enjoyed your videos Dr. Bob, but it feels like all the scp youtubers I enjoyed just suddenly stopped making content about the more obscure ones and hard focused on the popular ones like 049. The animation is amazing as always, I just miss learning about other scps that you found that I never heard of such as the headlights and smokey.
Dr. Bob was the exception to this rule for a long time, well, until recently. Though they did do an obscure quite recently. Hopefully they will keep their content diverse.

Yeah, same here. Previously I was always watching Bob's videos the day they came out, every single time, but now, well... no. Even with Bob's usual quality, I just... cant manage to pay attention to these. Like, I've already heard about the "main" SCPs 2000 times over... they were neat at first, way back when, but they're just uninteresting now. Even with the best animation and narration my attention wanders and I typically dont finish the videos. And every single SCP-related channel started just doing this sort of thing over and over and over. Heck, SCP Explained in particular, I entirely forgot existed... used to really like that channel, now havent watched their stuff in months. Just... ugh. The original formula for this channel was superb, really miss it.

I remember that frustration - even anger - whenever someone took my sketchbook without my permission or went thru it when I didn't say they could.
I still recall once some boys taking my sketchbook out of my school bag while I was at the other side of the classroom doing a group project. I saw them huddled around my bag and then spotted my art book in one of their hands. Oh, man, I was ready too throw down and take names right then and there!

Origin stories and VS battles are okay - If it wasn't for the fact they seemingly replaced the original content and idea behind the channel, to cover lesser known SCPs and present some of the better known ones, in their own way.

This seems to imply that The Plague Doctor & The Possessive Mask are from the same Universe. That also implies The Plague Doctor's touch is fatal to humans because of similar logic to Quarian's comprimised immune systems, and The Plague Doctor can't properly explain "the pestilence" outside his home Universe and it's something that can't be comprehended by humans, nor does it act the same way in the Universe the Doctor ended up in! Whatever he sees in humans, is an alter-dimensional non-harmful version of a fatal sickness in his Universe!
Honestly you should make a part 2 of alagada because this is so interesting keep up the good work!

Dr Bob - you have always covered the most interesting SCP's, and I enjoy watching them so much. Recently though it seems that you are covering the more popular SCP's via "origin stories",, which is in stark contrast to what made me love your channel in the first place. Some of my favorite SCP videos have come from you: "The Anomalous Supermarket", "The Never-ending Bottle", and even "The Labyrinthian Cube", and I've watched them all several times. I guess the point to my comment is this - please, *please* don't go down the road that only leads to popular SCP's. You may gain some superficial followers, but you'll lose your actual fans - like me.
