I haven't gone through all of the comments so someone may have pointed this out before, if so sorry for the repeat, but I'm seeing a lot of people complaining about the kids talking and interrupting and holding one another. So this show is all about helping troubled youth most of these kids probably all came up doing the same stupid bad shit with one another they never had any real guidance and have probably been put down by their previous "mentors" before this. Cut 'em some slack Jamie obviously realizes this which is why he's being so much more encouraging probably something they haven't had in an extremely long time.
+Marianne Annabelle then how come at 4:02 the black guy was just hovering his hand around the little indian girl???? people get fake in front of cameras thats just how it is
A lot of people are saying that these kids don't show respect because that they don't shut up, but if you listen to what they say you can tell that they actually are quite enthusiastic. They are constantly confirming and responding to what Jamie has to say, in other words they are actually paying attention. Besides the fact that these kids just don't understand when to shut up and when to talk, I think it's kind of special that they are this enthusiastic given that they are all kids with problems.
Jesse Boom Yep. Plus, it's kind of unrealistic to think that all the kids would just be silent. I think it's a good thing that the kids are talkative about the subject at hand and, like you said, are clearly enthusiastic about the opportunity to learn.
People slating the kids clearly have no idea that Jamie might have been the first person in their lives that wants them to succeed and give them something to be proud of. They're not the cream of the British schooling crop.. Respect to Jamie for this.
" might have been " the parents "might " be loaded. And can afford to put their children in a class being ran by Jamie. Which would explain why they dont shut the fuck up. Could potentially be spoiled as fuck

"They're not the cream of the British schooling crop." LOL!!!! Love this line hahahaha
Tristan - you're a fucking idiot. The whole premise of the show was to teach children who had been having problems at school or been going through shit. You couldn't pay to get your child oh the show
I've watched this and read the comments and it seems to me that there are a lot of people writing comments who do not understand what is really going on here. I'm an accelerated learning trainer and have been for over ten years and it is clear to me that these kids are deeply engrossed in what Jamie is doing. All the comments made by the kids are comments of engagement and connection. They are finishing his sentences, adding to what he says, contributing with their experiences (I love horseradish... I eat it with everything... mmm that looks good....). Deep learning takes place when teaching becomes an experience and that is exactly what is happening here. This class is in their muscles now, drawing on all their senses. Moreover, in his use of a student to demonstrate the cuts of meat, Jamie has enhanced the kinesthetic nature of this course. These kids will not forget what he is teaching - ever - and all credit to him, he maintains his focus and energy levels - outstanding.
Bravo to Jamie!! I loved how he was so in touch with what these young students did no matter whether or not they messed up he still gave them inspiration and believe in themselves and that's what a teacher is supposed to do. I wish they had cooking schools when I was a teen here in USA so many of our young people dropping out when they can learn such a valuable skill like cooking. I'm trying hard to teach my children but only two will come into thee kitchen. Keep it up Jamie bravo!!
I would like to say THANK YOU Jamie, on behalf of your students, because you are actually doing them a great favor. First of all you are teaching them to appreciate all the healthy food they can prepare themselves, rather than going on fast food stand and buying junk food. Second of all you are passing your knowledge, and they should all be very grateful because you spared some time to show them that cooking is no big deal, and with you, they can learn that cooking is limited only by imagination of person doing the cooking. May God bless you and give you health and strength in passing your precious knowledge that you do. Greetings from Bosnia. Cheers mate!
Using the kid to explain was an excellent idea from Jamie. These students will never forget what he just taught because of how he taught it! Brilliant.
Jamie is a great teacher. Wish there was more of his standard in the schools! Maybe there would not be so many that drop out of school if the teachers had his way of encouraging way of correcting their flaws.
I really enjoyed that, teaching a trade to youth is one of the best things going for this generation. Lots of positive and critical comments presented in a professional manner. This encourages people to pursue greatness and to learn and grow. We all need some of this.
Jamie truly inspiring lessons, not only for the class but also for no doubt 95% of the population. Great feedback and positive reinforcement - well done sir. We need more people to inspire the next generation !!!
He is basically Gordon Ramsay without the silly theatrical, fake anger, showing that encouragement and constructive criticism is the best tool for learning and improving.
People getting so upset about the kids, they are 15-16, its a weird age for kids, put a celebrity and cameras infront of them, ofcourse they will act annoying. I'm not saying they are a specifically respectful bunch, but they are just kids. If it were 18-19 year old versions of the same crew they would behave better i promise. Lovley lesson!
Jamie is an excellent guy for keeping it together with a mob of teens. He really has a gift for this type of work. I went to school for art instruction for two years, and it is extremely difficult to manage a room full of children. It's like herding cats. Students like headband girl drove me nuts. You'd tell them to be quiet and listen for the lecture portion, and then 5 seconds later they were completely detached chatting with some other student. I can't let them keep chiming in on my lecture because it's distracting for the other students and with limited time, I want to maintain maximum time for the portion where they do the exercise themselves. I notice that when I tried to ignore Chatty Cathy, the lecture would last much longer because I was asked to repeat, or if I just powered through my lecture, the practical part of class would be hung up because students missed components due to someone blabbing away in the background. Between all the other ways a class period could be ruined, I just decided that teaching was not for me. I have so much respect for my grade school instructors now.
2:55 Here it is ladies and gentleman.... Look of a lady that says "Fuck that... I'm beautiful and I just want a rich husband that can pay 200$ for my filet mignon and I don't give a shit" yeah.... a real jewel in the class....
For all those who talk over him when he's doing his demonstration from his point of view he believes that at the end when they are doing their dishes he will see who was paying attention and who wasn't. Jamie is a very good teacher
the way he calms down the distracted kids by making the "hussssssssssh" sound reminds me of my primary school teacher who had to handle a bunch of kids chit-chatting in the class. Hats off to Jamie's patience. he truly handled the kids well. Handling young misguided people is easier said than done. it needs immense patience and self control.
dear jamie, its because of people like you ,that we have specialists around the world in any profession, i can't stress this enough,if people like you were not existed to guide others in such kind/friendly/positive/energetic and understandably way ,we didn't/couldn't have come so far,.you guys are making the world a better place! and i have nothing but respect for you!wish you the bests mate!
just for the record, this is the second video i watched from you,,,easy to say, u r awesome!and because of the way you are,all these kids will remember what you've told them,,,,every second of it...
reminds me of college ...some of the people here are complaining why the students wont stop talking ...they are just having fun ...and we had the same fun in hotel school ..Jaimie is a cool instructor .i wish all of those students success in their careers .
You can see at 6:22 the "grill/square" pan is there, but at the right of the round pan. I think the reason he used the round one was to get the charring of the meat as clean(with no grill lines on the side) as possible.
I've stumbled on your youtube videos, and I've watched several of them back to back. I've enjoyed you since first watching you on the Food Network. Thank you for being so concerned about the food you cook and the food consumed by our children. It's to bad that the schools (in America) didn't catch on to what you were trying to do, some years ago.
I self taught myself on how to cook a great steak, best thing is you can use any flavors or seasoning you want. Thank god for medium best doneness to red and juice ratio. Well prepared steak.
Everyone is bitching about the kids, but they did a pretty damn good job of cooking those steaks. I remember having a hard time listening while in a big group like that, even as a teenager. That's human nature.
Great to watch these kids get inspired by cooking and curious about food! Jamie's stupid amount of enthusiasm has always got me excited and eager to start cooking myself. Good stuff! Plus, he seems like an awesome teacher as well, one with the ability to ''Coolify the sh*t out of everything''! I would love to get a chance to enjoy a class by Jamie.
jamie oliver as a catering will so much better hes knows more about food and that I reckon he will become one of the best catering teach in school or college
I haven't seen this particular show, but I definitely want to, now; but Jamie has done many shows with disadvantaged kids to help build up their confidence, and life skills in general, and help them gain a life that would otherwise probably be on the streets. These students are probably no older than 18-19 years, so yes they are going to be immature. Also, the nature of their upbringing often means they are striving for affection and approval from others, hence the touching. Hope that helps :)
I was harvesting wild horseradish in our cottage retreat for campfire sausages when i was 5 in czech republic. The same with wild mushrooms and berries. Its funny how you came to understand that somebody actually never harvested the food they eat. In my country, everybody likes to have a small garden with tomatoes, carrots, strawberries, herbs ... This should be learned on every primary school.
Glad he demonstrated "dressing the board." Its a dying art, as it were, which used to be a standard prep in many places in the states, including my folks restaurant years ago. But as fads and trends change, sometimes classic preparations get lost in the cracks, too.
Giacomo Voß if you actually look close enough the pan with the grills is in the shot as well, this is a second piece of meat, i assume because the camera man forgot to get the original shot
That's why Jamie Oliver is Jamie Oliver the legend and you are..well fucking noone. Can you please stop cursing these youngsters and start thinking about how idiout you were when you were 16. He's just giving them a chance that can change their life. It's simply brilliant.
It’s great that he does this for these kids. I do see both sides of the comments re the kids chatter, lack of attention etc. There is a middle ground though. Most of the kids are chatting about the meat itself even though it may not be exactly what the butcher is saying, so that’s great. Yes, many are playing up and exaggerating their yucks and grosses for the camera and friends. I think that they should be expected to listen quietly whilst being explained what is what and if they have a question then one at a time ask it. If the expectation is set from the start it helps. (I dont know what is said at the beginning of this process) The other part to that is reward for following the rules. Some comments say these kids have been mistreated, so cut them slack. Some say their poor so cut them slack. I grew up “dirt floor poor”, literally but it doesn’t cost money to teach manners so I don’t buy that excuse, sorry. It’s important to make certain that they understand the opportunity they’re being given. I would exuding chatter from teens but not to this extent, but this can be a learning experience for them to achieve better self control and hang out with JO and learn valuable life skills. It’s all in approach to them and avoiding bashing them at all, and using 80% encouragement 20% corrective discipline.
Yup that's Danielle Harold who has stated she owes her career to Jamie Oliver for giving her big acting break. I wonder how many more of these "troubled teens" were actors? LOL
This make me happy. I just hate all the tv-shows in cooking when people are smashed to the floor by some fancy chef like Gordon Ramsey just because they can't make an omelette proper. Jamie on the other hand educate, he give them credit for what they do good and tell them what to change what's lesser good. I like Jamie!
Different situation! Gordon Ramsay handles people that MUST have already learned to cook because they run their own Restaurant.. and you need to treat adults really hard because otherwise they wouldn't respect you as an higher class than themselves. You see them everytime saying .. na it's not my fault.. what you (Gordon) say is just bullshit.. i'm doing fine! So they need to be kicked ass. Jamie handles kids here who never learned how to make their own food. They need inspiration and positive feedback. I'm sure that if Gordon were on those kids.. he would do the same way as Jamie does.
What this person said^ plus, have you actually seen Gordon Ramsay cooking with kids? He's super nice and amazing at teaching them. Go watch some clips of the Junior Masterchef he was involved in. Gordon Ramsay is lovely to anyone who doesnt know how to cook, but if you tell him you're a chef and plate up shitty food, he'll explode.
+Andreas Behrens It's a fundamentally different scenario though, these were novice/amateur chefs attending a class; Ramsay deals with "professional" chefs who have no interest in learning different ways despite clearly causing harm to their cooking establishments.
they must have different names and cutting points for primals in the uk because as far as i know the rib is usually in the front quarter, and its followed by the short loin and then the round (TSB,BSB etc...)
Really like to se Jamie work with people! I dont understand tho why they all talk when he has an demonstration! If i had a chance to learn from him i would be eagle eyes on what he's doing and elephant ears on what he's saying! :D Still lovely and interesting as usual! :)
This is a group of 20 students with attitude aged 16-18 who fucked up their GCSEs and the idea was to see if different methods of teaching would engage them more. People ain't getting the point of this show, it was an experiment. They were chosen for their low attention spans. 20 perfect students all listening and taking it in wouldn't have worked - they're not the ones who need help. These guys are. And it's wicked when you see a sense of pride and achievement on their faces, it's probably the first time in their life they're proud of learning something. All this "shut up" attitude belongs back in the 1950s when our great grandads were saying "children should be seen and not heard" and all that shit
Something you can’t teach. An appreciation for the individuality of ingredientsand the knowledge of how to cpmbine them through trial and error. U can teach cuts of meat or how to chop but becoming great is due to tasting all food at all stages. Taking risks, and seeking greatness.
can u guys tell me what the name of vegetable when Oliver chop it and make it with garlic, lemon juice ??? my eng is not good so hope u guys understand :) thank you !
what i would do get get some cooking lessons with that man my cooking idol. 10% of that class were actually greatful some didn even have the respect to shut up and listen
If I had a cook like that in my school I'd actually like cooking lessons! My teacher wouldn't show us how to cook it, all she'd do is pull a recipe from a book, print it out and give it to us and then tell us to start cooking. She wouldn't even taste our food (which I can understand why!) :D
I haven't gone through all of the comments so someone may have pointed this out before, if so sorry for the repeat, but I'm seeing a lot of people complaining about the kids talking and interrupting and holding one another. bro why they have their arms hanging on each other?
To have Jamie as your cooking teacher would be an absolute honour!! This lot is lucky indeed. You're the best Jamie cheers mate :)
Mìcheil Kilborn yourself. Here in the States we love Jamie Oliver too, he's just a great guy all around.
The butcher has got the moo moo doorag on him
Just don't say this in front of Gordon Ramsay ....😂😂
People slating the kids clearly have no idea that Jamie might have been the first person in their lives that wants them to succeed and give them something to be proud of. They're not the cream of the British schooling crop.. Respect to Jamie for this.
Resepect to the kids aswell.
Jamie has set up a "win-win" for everyone involved. I respect him for that.

Your approach towards these children is absolutely gorgeous Jaimie! Keep educating Britain!
15:20 this kid always does well because you can see he listens to what jamie says and doesn't talk over him like other people
Very lucky to have Chef Jamie teacher . ( we all have to learn at one point of time .) l am still novice stage still learning . Very informative .

Look at Oliver. Listening and watching like he's a student, learning. That is the heart of a chef, or cook.
Love the way he talks to these kids. Motivating them whilst still being honest if they need to improve
For all those who talk over him when he's doing his demonstration from his point of view he believes that at the end when they are doing their dishes he will see who was paying attention and who wasn't. Jamie is a very good teacher
Jamie is such a good teacher, it's nice to see how the kids get more confident. And I learned about dressing the board.
the way he calms down the distracted kids by making the "hussssssssssh" sound reminds me of my primary school teacher who had to handle a bunch of kids chit-chatting in the class. jamie oliver is truly inspirational hes gave so much to cooking.
Jamie Oliver has so much passion for his craft. I wish he were my culinary instruction in school.
I love this man's spirit!!! Kudos from America!!!

at like 6:19 he is pressing the fat on to a round pan. and then seconds later it's in a square pan with no round pan nearby
I thought that looked weird!
Ramhams1337 lol
Description says it's been edited with fluff cut out. No biggy
You can see at 6:22 the "grill/square" pan is there, but at the right of the round pan. I think the reason he used the round one was to get the charring of the meat as clean(with no grill lines on the side) as possible.
"What was good about it... Well you cooked it."
I've stumbled on your youtube videos, and I've watched several of them back to back. I've enjoyed you since first watching you on the Food Network. 6:00 - 6:30 Jamie's ribbed grill pan magically transforms into a fry pan... best Chef ever
Jamie is a real inspiration to all, he understand what it was like to learn.
I would have loved to have taken this class as a kid. This guy is a fantastic teacher.
I self taught myself on how to cook a great steak, best thing is you can use any flavors or seasoning you want. Thank god for medium best doneness to red and juice ratio. Well prepared steak.
15:09 Love the way he answered Jamie!
Excellent information! Thank you for laying it out so simply for us!
Everyone is bitching about the kids, but they did a pretty damn good job of cooking those steaks. I remember having a hard time listening while in a big group like that, even as a teenager. That's human nature.
I agree, they are only kids having a good time, we should let them be happy.
More like bad manners.
Man, these kids don't know how lucky they were to get a private cooking lesson with Jamie Oliver! Good guy, always liked him.
Jamie is an impressive chef, but also a great teacher!
I absolutely loved this chapter! thank you for sharing!
dat Hover hand at 4:03 lmao

Why are these kids always hanging and or leaning on each other?
I wondered about that too, think it's really cute but still kinda unusual ^^
hes got a crutch you idiot, watch the knife skill video
Great video! Really informative. I know most of the stuff already, but still nice hearing it from people like Jamie or Dave.
This is freakin amazing!!! Think we need to get the amateur kitchen in these classes!!!!

Kid at 10:19 is like " oh hell no, I'm going back to the Sephora Store and do bitches makeup instead "
16:25 and turn on english subtitles
Continuity error on 6:19? This is not a grill pan in the close up :D
Giacomo Voß if you actually look close enough the pan with the grills is in the shot as well, this is a second piece of meat, i assume because the camera man forgot to get the original shot

What a good teacher, and i like him.
OMG what a good class! Fantastic 👍🏼
What an informative video! What steps should be changed for a normal frying pan?
+Sean Goresht Nothing really... You just never get those bars...
Isn't that blonde girl the ones who plays Lola in Eastenders?

+Andreas Behrens It's a fundamentally different scenario though, these were novice/amateur chefs attending a class; Ramsay deals with "professional" chefs who have no interest in learning different ways despite clearly causing harm to their cooking establishments.
why did the pan change at 6:10
Amazing teacher! Amazing steak! Everything looks really good, even I will try this steak. Good job Jamie :)
Yum! I'll have 2 try dressing the board next time I cook a steak
hes an humble chef 👌 , well done jamie
they must have different names and cutting points for primals in the uk because as far as i know the rib is usually in the front quarter, and its followed by the short loin and then the round (TSB,BSB etc...)
he seems like a fantastic teacher to me
Really like to se Jamie work with people!
I dont understand tho why they all talk when he has an demonstration!
If i had a chance to learn from him i would be eagle eyes on what he's doing and elephant ears on what he's saying! :D
Still lovely and interesting as usual! :)
12:08 "it smells so noise it looks so noise" this english accent haha
Jamie: this is the rump *Slaps teenagers behind multiple times*
Me: o h
where did they find these riff raffs with caps on backward in there?
Bless him for doing this for them. "You're never a fucking pain in the ass." LOL
These group of kids reminded me how much I hated school.
Glad those days are over.
THIS GUY IS AWESOME....WOWWWWW....HE IS TOPS ON MY LIST
This is a group of 20 students with attitude aged 16-18 who fucked up their GCSEs and the idea was to see if different methods of teaching would engage them more. People ain't getting the point of this show, it was an experiment. They were chosen for their low attention spans. 20 perfect students all listening and taking it in wouldn't have worked - they're not the ones who need help. These guys are. And it's wicked when you see a sense of pride and achievement on their faces, it's probably the first time in their life they're proud of learning something. All this "shut up" attitude belongs back in the 1950s when our great grandads were saying "children should be seen and not heard" and all that shit
such a great teacher
Slat helps break down Garlic, yes Jamie is awesome
My God that video just made me hungry lol
Lovely teaching its amazing
If I had a cook like that in my school I'd actually like cooking lessons! My teacher wouldn't show us how to cook it, all she'd do is pull a recipe from a book, print it out and give it to us and then tell us to start cooking. She wouldn't even taste our food (which I can understand why!) :D
Just seen this its my grandad in the cow cap 😂😂😂😂
Why does jamies pan change from a griddle to normal when showing them how to render the fat?
How can anybody drink like that ? 16:43
he's sucking the water out of the bottle..disgusting way really
Least he ain’t slurping it, it’s his water and he’s not planning on sharing it.
had mates like that in our neighbour hood hahaha. but dont write them off, you never know. good on jamie for giving it a go.
Legend has it Detra is still on all fours on the metal trolley, waiting for Jamie to call him down.
Great teaching
Classy Jamie to be able to deal with this group of students, I must say.
