+perperub Its only for you. You have to kill 15+ mobs on our own to get a massacre bonus. The kills arent counted in group and the multiplier only affects you. So maybe going for massacre isnt the best way in a full game (No proof just a thought)
I guess that this mechanic is made as a compensation for solo players. It makes sense that it's weaker in parties where you have the "Strenght in numbers" buff instead. Thank you for your replies.
+perperub The kills can be shared, but you need to hit the mob. So let's say there are 100 monsters in a zone, you and a friend split up and meet in the middle. One of you got 75 monster kills and the other got 50. Both of you will get 100 kills worth of credit (XP for kills is shared in zones) and then you will get a 75 bonus (you hit 25 of your friend's mobs) and your friend will get a 50 bonus (hit none of your mobs).
+Alex Green You can share as long as you get a hit on the monster before it dies. This buff has been a while on console and there have been plenty of times we got 200+ kills but then our final kill tally was off by maybe +/-15. You just need to make sure as a group nobody is killing the monsters too fast. You can even have a person leading who applies a weak DOT to everything (Locust Swarm or something like Rend) that will aggro monsters and then have a clean up crew behind it. It might actually be more beneficial for highly coordinated groups to run rifts and straight kill. I did all my testing solo and this guide is more geared towards solo players with help of maybe a friend or two. You could likely still min/max and focus farm zones while maintaining massacre bonuses as well, as I've done that on the console version of D3.
HELP I'm new to Diablo, haven't event played thru once yet but I LOVE the idea of seasonal so I started on that right away.my only confusion is, what is the ultimate goal in seasonal? I'm assuming u get stuff like unique icons, but what else? Is there unique seasonal armor to collect? Is that the end goal? And if so is hat what his gear guide covers?
This guide is to get 70 and your first 6 piece class set. hit Shift+J in game to bring up the seasonal Journey tab to see the complete list. you only need to complete up to conquerer (second to last) to unlock the stash tab, which is the sought after reward. You get a portrait and pet for one of the lower ones, but its real easy to get. Every time you complete a step in the journey, click the lower right area to unlock the next step.
is it best to lvl with a full party of 4 or is it ok just having myself and one close friend? also I was thinking about running the story mode till leoric as a group then going over to adventure mode. will that work or is it essential for only one doing story and the others doing the bonus bounty act so you have the bonus cache right at 23?

Why have I not seen anything about Haedrig's Gift before now? This is great, and let's you skip that first and most obnoxious step in gearing at 70 (the time between dinging and getting 2pc).
+DJ_Marxman It's brand new this season as a way to attract people to play Seasons since there is no longer season-exclusive loot. Fantastic change in my opinion since getting a free 6pc makes re-gearing so much easier and you'll need one for the Season Journey/extra stash tab.
Thanks for this great vid. Sub-ed. I have one question. Removing a gem is not a good practive while leveling since it is waste of money. How about the leroic helm that you get at 20? Do you wear it at once with the avaible red gems by then and regem it when you get better?
+Kikeron From my understanding you will use the Leoric's Crown till 70! And the cost of removing a gem depends on the quality of the gem! So I'd say you can use the Jeweler to remove the gem a couple of times! Besides, you will be able to be 70 in 3,5 hours or less doing it solo!
at the moment its 1/17/2016. there was an update for the console version, and i have found that the massacre bonus works in rifts. I grinded the crap out of this and got my witch hunter to 70 in about 1 hour 30 mins- 2 hours solo using the cain's set gear. also i have found that i did not get the haedrig's gifts, and did not get any of the set gear. I dont know if thats only for pc, if they took it out, or if it only works for one character in your list of characters.
I just picked up the game a couple days ago and started adventure mode but it seems a lot less crowded than in your video or others I've seen. I'm only level 21 with the demon hunter but i can't seem to be able to line up more than a 100 kill massacre because of the lack of mobs..am i doing something wrong?
Do you have suggestions on what builds to use for each class as you are leveling up everyone knows the builds at lvl 70 but with the skills to use as they are unlicked isnt so widely known
+retsam001 No specific builds, but if you want to take advantage of the massacre bonus, using ranged abilities and ones with damage over time work best to keep the "fuse" on the massacre going.
Just a barely relevant note. You mention that t7 has the best drop rate for bounties, I assume you mean the cache materials, when I tried some bounties on t10 on the PTR like a month ago and I got 5+5 (rather than 4+4 from t7) mats per act. I don't know if the threshold actually is t10 or if it's lower though.

+Raymond Klein No, you only get it mailed once. And it's either/or softcore or hardcore. So if you get level 70 and your 6 piece set on softcore, you cannot get it on a new hardcore character or another new softcore character.

+Noitamina san Potentially it can be faster with massacre farming, but requires a well coordinated group. It will likely be easier and less effort to just speed clear a rift as a 4 player group. Also, you can split farm the zones in a 2+2 group format. You'll still get all the zone on kill XP and each 2 person group can easily get a massacre for 150+ pretty easy still and be gaining 3x bonus XP on top of it.
Dumb question here, haven't played since first month of S3, the bonus set pieces works for my first character on seasons or it does work for every new class i do?
+buurz It's very close whether or not it's worth it. But that's not stopping anyone from doing it if they just don't like running adventure mode and figure a slight detour of ~15 minutes of slower XP gains (probably net loss of maybe 7 minutes of actually speed leveling speed) to gain it back. I'd almost say it's a wash either way if you can get the crown in under 15 minutes. If it takes you something like 30-45 minutes then I wouldn't say to get it. I'm putting the finishing touches up on a video on how to get to Leoric quick (under 15 minutes). If you were to do it solo, you can try and get massacre bonuses along the way, so at least you're not wasting XP gains. If you start campaign at level 1, it will take you ~17 minutes to get to Leoric, if you wait until your class gets a movement skill (9 for skill 10 gives you a passive for monk/dh, Crusader at 12, WD at 16, Barb at 8, Wizard is unfortunately 22 which is too late so might as well start at level 1) it will take you about 14 minutes and shave off 3 or so minutes.
4:20 Don't turn in bonus bounties. I don't understand this. Are you saying that I can open up a game, do all the bounties in the bonus act, then leave the game BEFORE cashing it in, then start a new game with a new bonus bounty act? Then cash them all in later when I'm level 23+? Is that how it works? Am I understanding that? You get all the rewards at once?
+GreedoUT No. They don't save if you leave. What he's saying is to keep the game open and level to 23(probably in rifts) and then cash in. You're most likely going to be near 23 before you've done your first bounty, so it's just smarter to wait the extra levels before cashing in.
+Kim Johansson My question is WHY do you wait to cash in the first bounty? I understand level 23 is when you can equip the Cain's Set, but you can get the recipe drop whenever, then just do what you want until 23 to craft/equip it.
+Anthony Landrum He's not very clear on that particular point, but I believe what he means is that if you, as a level 1 character, start the game off in Adventure Mode doing nothing but bounties, then by the time you clear all five acts you will be somewhere above level 23. I can confirm that; without ever leaving that first game I made I was able to get to level 23 before I even finished the final act of bounties. Once I hit 23 I started cashing in all the acts in the order that they popped up as the bonus act.
GreedoUT I watched a streamer on Friday finish their five objectives at lvl22 like 1 bar from 23 and instead of porting and hitting 23 from the turn in they specifically meandered around for several minutes hitting 23 from just killing mobs, then ported and took their (first) bounty prize. This leads me to believe they specifically made no turn ins til they were exactly 23.
+ZDY Bonus acts: the game selects one act of the V acts to be the bonus act. That act will reward you with a horadric cache and a bonus cache. The other IV acts will reward you with only the horadric cache. Once you have completed the bonus act, zoom out (the left hand clickable button on the map) to see which act will be the next bonus act. The act that will be bonus is selected by the game with it's own criteria. Sometimes it is not the next act up, sometimes it is one of the other acts.
That invoker set is so bad. IT may be because i don't understand thorns. But i hit level 70 and i have 10k thorns damage... That is nothing.... And both. The 2 and 4 piece bonuses on this invoker set are useless. In my mind... What the hell? what am i doing wrong?
actually don't pickup rare items for crafting materials... Pickup white items and salvage those instead since you get ALOT more per salvage. And then get the kanai cube and transform white into yellow. It's about 10000000000000 times faster
+december ferret Yes later game, still requries Death's Breath to convert them, so starting off fresh at level 70 it is better to have a balance of materials to craft any items you need early on.
+Nils Olav str It's determined by what class opens it. So, in theory, you could get the 3 Haedrig's Gifts on your Crusader and open them up on your Wizard and get 6 piece of Firebirds.
+Upton Yes, you need to be on seasons. You only get each of the bags for the season (hardcore and softcore are combined), so make sure you open them up on the same character.

+perperub I've seen his guide. In a 4 player group, either my method (massacre killing) or his (rifting) will both get you under 3 hours in a 4 player group if you play your cards right. I still feel that massacre bonuses are better and that Drahque considered massacre bonuses worthless too soon without enough testing. He is going around saying that it is "impossible" to get a massacre bonus as group because you steal kills, but that is not the case at all. If you have a room of 50 mobs and 4 people get a hit on them before they die, once they die they will all get massacre credit for those 50 kills. Something I should have added to my guide is if/when you get your reduced level item at level 42+, you should probably run rifts at this point. I've also found in testing that running rifts after you complete your first bonus act until you get in your mid 20's is also pretty ideal as well if all you care about is fast XP gains. As far as my leveling speed... Solo, it took 3 hours. Based off the fact that 4 people is roughly 4x the damage and killing power, then a 4 player group bumps monster health 250%. So if you kill 4x as fast, you would level in an hour but 2.5x that will be about 2.5 hours to level this way in a group. That's also not factoring in the 30% bonus XP for group play. I'm still going to level up as a group using bonus bounty acts. It will take slower, but I'll be at level 70 with several act cache materials and I won't need to run bounties for a while and I can build up a speed farm set when I need to do it. Hope that answers your question.
+Wood y The free 6 piece set is only available for seasons on PC. Consoles do not get seasonal play. Hopefully they can implement seasonal play on consoles in the future to curb all the duped and hacked items that are out there.

+Qi Hao Goh It is more dangerous in hardcore, but you need to have a build that's more suited towards being defensive while you build up your fire stack on enemies. I find the easiest builds are a Fire Blizzard and Fire Hydra combo with Black Hole to clump mobs together to help apply the 3000% damage needed to proc the bonus.

+Qi Hao Goh I'll say that the Wizard 4 piece set wasn't the greatest and one of the harder classes to get your 6th class piece set. You really need to work with the 4 piece set and build up the damage over time, which is more requiring a lot of kiting monsters and not as quick as the others.

Whenever I talk to the Book of Cain it says I do not have unidentified items even though I have the 4 piece class set.

+Siri correct, and that was something I forgot to mention. My intent Was T7 is the best while farming early on.

But that's not stopping anyone from doing it if they just don't like running adventure mode and figure a slight detour of ~15 minutes of slower XP gains (probably net loss of maybe 7 minutes of actually speed leveling speed) to gain it back. I'd almost say it's a wash either way if you can get the crown in under 15 minutes. If it takes you something like 30-45 minutes then I wouldn't say to get it.
I'm putting the finishing touches up on a video on how to get to Leoric quick (under 15 minutes). If you were to do it solo, you can try and get massacre bonuses along the way, so at least you're not wasting XP gains. If you start campaign at level 1, it will take you ~17 minutes to get to Leoric, if you wait until your class gets a movement skill (9 for skill 10 gives you a passive for monk/dh, Crusader at 12, WD at 16, Barb at 8, Wizard is unfortunately 22 which is too late so might as well start at level 1) it will take you about 14 minutes and shave off 3 or so minutes.

I don't understand this. Are you saying that I can open up a game, do all the bounties in the bonus act, then leave the game BEFORE cashing it in, then start a new game with a new bonus bounty act? Then cash them all in later when I'm level 23+? Is that how it works? Am I understanding that? You get all the rewards at once?
+GreedoUT No. They don't save if you leave. What he's saying is to keep the game open and level to 23(probably in rifts) and then cash in. You're most likely going to be near 23 before you've done your first bounty, so it's just smarter to wait the extra levels before cashing in.

+Anthony Landrum He's not very clear on that particular point, but I believe what he means is that if you, as a level 1 character, start the game off in Adventure Mode doing nothing but bounties, then by the time you clear all five acts you will be somewhere above level 23. I can confirm that; without ever leaving that first game I made I was able to get to level 23 before I even finished the final act of bounties. Once I hit 23 I started cashing in all the acts in the order that they popped up as the bonus act.

I watched a streamer on Friday finish their five objectives at lvl22 like 1 bar from 23 and instead of porting and hitting 23 from the turn in they specifically meandered around for several minutes hitting 23 from just killing mobs, then ported and took their (first) bounty prize. This leads me to believe they specifically made no turn ins til they were exactly 23.

What are bonus acts? Is it the same as adventure mode?
+ZDY Bonus acts: the game selects one act of the V acts to be the bonus act. That act will reward you with a horadric cache and a bonus cache. The other IV acts will reward you with only the horadric cache. Once you have completed the bonus act, zoom out (the left hand clickable button on the map) to see which act will be the next bonus act. The act that will be bonus is selected by the game with it's own criteria. Sometimes it is not the next act up, sometimes it is one of the other acts.
I have no clue what most of what you said was... i guess i'm just going to play it normally.

That invoker set is so bad. IT may be because i don't understand thorns. But i hit level 70 and i have 10k thorns damage... That is nothing.... And both. The 2 and 4 piece bonuses on this invoker set are useless. In my mind... What the hell? what am i doing wrong?

Pickup white items and salvage those instead since you get ALOT more per salvage. And then get the kanai cube and transform white into yellow. It's about 10000000000000 times faster

+perperub I've seen his guide. In a 4 player group, either my method (massacre killing) or his (rifting) will both get you under 3 hours in a 4 player group if you play your cards right. I still feel that massacre bonuses are better and that Drahque considered massacre bonuses worthless too soon without enough testing. He is going around saying that it is "impossible" to get a massacre bonus as group because you steal kills, but that is not the case at all. If you have a room of 50 mobs and 4 people get a hit on them before they die, once they die they will all get massacre credit for those 50 kills.
Something I should have added to my guide is if/when you get your reduced level item at level 42+, you should probably run rifts at this point. I've also found in testing that running rifts after you complete your first bonus act until you get in your mid 20's is also pretty ideal as well if all you care about is fast XP gains.
As far as my leveling speed... Solo, it took 3 hours. Based off the fact that 4 people is roughly 4x the damage and killing power, then a 4 player group bumps monster health 250%. So if you kill 4x as fast, you would level in an hour but 2.5x that will be about 2.5 hours to level this way in a group. That's also not factoring in the 30% bonus XP for group play. I'm still going to level up as a group using bonus bounty acts. It will take slower, but I'll be at level 70 with several act cache materials and I won't need to run bounties for a while and I can build up a speed farm set when I need to do it.

+Wood y The free 6 piece set is only available for seasons on PC. Consoles do not get seasonal play. Hopefully they can implement seasonal play on consoles in the future to curb all the duped and hacked items that are out there.

+Qi Hao Goh It is more dangerous in hardcore, but you need to have a build that's more suited towards being defensive while you build up your fire stack on enemies. I find the easiest builds are a Fire Blizzard and Fire Hydra combo with Black Hole to clump mobs together to help apply the 3000% damage needed to proc the bonus.

+Qi Hao Goh I'll say that the Wizard 4 piece set wasn't the greatest and one of the harder classes to get your 6th class piece set. You really need to work with the 4 piece set and build up the damage over time, which is more requiring a lot of kiting monsters and not as quick as the others.
