Wow I like it. I have all the problems that guitars fixed. Having said that in 20 years time we're all going to find this video and that guitar hilarious
You can set it up so that you can't bend at all which is good in some cases or have it so you can bend which is obviously good in other areas, the bridge has individual floating saddles so you could set it so only certain string will be allowed to bend whilst others will be a perfect note all the way through. Hopefully this helped & answered your question (:
To be super honest, the regius is the most comfortable guitar out there... I played a custom for quite a bit and it just felt like its a part of my body!
Fanned frets are rather unnecessary, simply use higher tension strings and achieve the same results. Although with the true temperment you'd have to figure out the desired gauge beforehand as you can't change tuning or string gauge once the temperment has been done.
+DarkHorizons I know right? I have always failed to understand the point of fanned frets. The tension being same on all strings by changing the lengths seemed pointless, because the gauges of the strings were changed primarily for that reason. It is the intonation that caused the problem, but with True Temperament, that would be solved. So I don't see a point to fanned frets. Also, I wish True Temperament frets would just become standard.
The main point besides string tension is ergonomics, your hand doesn't stay straight when you move it up and down the fretboard, it tilts to the left when at the lower frets and tilts to the right when up on the higher frets. It was actually Perry Ormsby of Ormsby Guitars that popularized the concept in modern electric guitars after he used it to help with pains in his wrists when playing. Other than that it allows the lower strings to resonate better when tuned down, there comes a point where just going up in string gauge isn't going to help anymore where you need to up the scale length, but doing so will make the higher strings feel stiff and they won't resonate as well from the high tension. So in short; - It's more comfortable - Less playing fatigue - Better sustain and resonance - Better intonation - More balanced tension across the strings
Mikkel Scott - Guttural Slug/Septic Congestion eeeeh... no... the true temperment frets make fanned frets obsolete. fanned frets are just an imperfect version of true temperment frets....
Kyle Ganger yes however the BRIDGE does make fanned frets obsolete. It makes the tension of all the strings stay consistent so that none of them are affected by pick attack. Does essentially the same thing fanned frets do, but perfectly
So, how would evertune interact with having your intonation setup correctly? (ie: nut to bridge length adjustments - 12th fret harmonic vs 12th-fretted pitch). If you use ET to set minimum string tension - and have evertune ensure that temperature/humidity don't affect tuning - does this make it hard to perform the little microtonal bends required to cause chords to come out right? ie: maj third, bend bottom note up slightly - min third bend top note slightly, min7th interval bend top note slightly -- to fix the timbre of the chord, etc.
I know this is a sig model but where do i find all the awesome colours and finishes on the site it never shows all the nice finish just the plan one someone help!!!!!
any idea what one of thos bad boys would go for with a basic finish but with the ever tune and the frets? having trouble finding companies that have both on their guitars.
nice guitar, but I keep thinking about bending on those frets... if you were to bend on the fret that has the most "distortion" of it's shape, surely there would be inconsistencies in how much you have to travel in order to achieve pitch?
Trust me, you wont feel any difference in your playing going from a normal neck to a True temperament, except that it will sound so perfect in tune, especially big open chords all over the neck..
I'm a big fan of the idea of Evertune, but I personally like it when notes go slightly sharp if you hit them hard. I guess you could set it up so you can still achieve this, but I feel like it's just a bit too clinical and perfect. Amazing guitar though.
Yes, you "can" set it up that way...but then you are just using the Evertune to increase tension if the string stretches out and wants to loosen. You wouldn't be using it to it's maximum potential, which includes keeping the strings from going sharp. It would be like buying a huge pickup truck for it's big beefy brakes, but then never using it to tow or haul. OK, I'll readily admit that was a terrible analogy, but it's been a long day and I've got a headache. Either way, if that is a part of your tone than I think you luck out that this wouldn't be a practical tool for you to use. Not saying it or you is right or wrong, it's just probably not the right tool for you. :)
+Yuichi Inumaru Thanks. I was gona look closer at the frets and compare it to my study lol i.imgur.com/WevcME1.jpg (I have no life). I had a brief look and it seems kosher for drop-C
+Robbie Johnson they also take into the equation the scale size (and you can have both multiscale fanned frets and true temperament) and the string gauge. Also, i believe the frets are necessarily made of nickel; they can't (yet) print them in steel. This is somewhat important to say, although it's a cirurgically precise instrument, it's not very practical for tour or a very flexible and adjustable one, it's more like a working horse for recording and thus insanely stable. But you gotta keep it that way.
He did a bend at the beginning, then later said the bridge maintains a constant tension on the string, but if that were the case, a bend would not produce any change in pitch. What gives?
The evertune works so that your old tuners on your headstock works as a way to find the point where the saddle has no more room to move, then if you bend the string it will also bend in pitch. That said you can set the bridge so that your lower three strings will not move in pitch at all if bended and your top three strings will bend straight away or every other string if you wanted to do that.
rubinboy9 Not necessarily. You just have to be very careful with the spring/string tension. It's difficult to explain; Rob Chapman has a good video on it.

I'm interested why this is the only guitar I have ever seen with the true temperament frets. Seems like if it were actually doing what it said and played just as well as regular frets it would be a gigantic thing in the industry.
