We have the exact same problem.
Wish you would have recorded how you removed the old flue and how the new one was installed. Thank you

Just chip away anything that is left of the old. Mine was mostly gone. Then shop vac out your basement clean out access. Add a bit of mortar and slip the new one in.

Only use rutland 211 mix from amzon it needs to be rated for 2550 degrees. Leave a 1/8 th inch gap for the crown no cement between the crown and last flue is what i read.

If your title is “broken chimney flue replacement” you should probably show the chimney flue being replaced

Cool. I have the exact same problem. Top clay tile is cracked and flaked apart so needs to be replaced.
How did you get the old one out? I think they go down 4ft or so?

The are all about 24 inches here. We have a masonary chisel but it pratically lifted right out piece by piece. You can use something and let it fall into the chimney also and clean out in the basement. You need to anyway because some of the broken pieces have likely already fallen down. Put a chimney cap on and it will save you in the future.

@@mommymilestones Thanks. We are in southern Ontario, Canada. My broken flue is just venting the furnace. My other flue is good, has a liner in it, and vents the wood burning fireplace insert in the basement. Both have caps.
Had a guy out last week to quote the job, and he didn't even go up on the roof to look. He just quoted me a brand new rebuilt cement chimney crown for 1800.00. lol. There's nothing wrong with our chimney crown. It looks just like yours. That's why we do things ourselves eh ;)

Nice job with the chimney, there. That's a fifties house?. Gotta be late fifties then. Mines a '66 and it is about the same architecture as yours there.

Top cap is the crown it should have NO CEMENT BETWEEN IT IT NEEDS A GAP SO THE CROWN DOES NOT CRACK during expansion and so it dont crack the flues below it .THE REST NEEDS THE CEMENT ID USE rutland 211 MIX it is rated for 2550 degrees and is for flue repair . This is what i have seen .
