    Watching this video you can feel the magic that the Habs and Forum had. Little did the crowd in the Forum there know what waited for them in the years to come.

  • @DanOCan
    @DanOCan 3 роки тому +7

    It was the last hurrah for the Forum and for the Canadiens. It was like the building gave them one final gift by having Desjardin's first shot hit the stanchion instead of shooting off to the left point where that type of shot often goes when it misses high. The Habs left all the magic and tradition (Dare I say the "ghosts of the Forum"?) behind when they moved to the Molson Centre.

    Had McSorely remembered to switch back to a legal stick in the 3rd period, as Gretzky had reminded him to do, the Kings would have likely won the Stanley Cup. Only a couple teams have ever come back from a 2-0 series deficit in the finals.

      Was our last indeed and never even got close since. 2 conference finals, lost the first one in 5 and the second one in 6. At the same time traded Roy a few years after this and he immediately won a cup and then won a second cup a few years after. In 20-30 years if things keep up and we still haven't won one they will start talking about that trade like they used to for the red Sox when they traded babe Ruth to the Yankees and then didn't win a world series in like 80 years. Curse of the Bambino will be called like Curse of the King or something.

    Good guy Kelly. Major props to Jacques Demers who was illiterate and had to get the players to write their own names on the chalkboard. But he found a way. It is rumoured that Denis Savard tipped him off about the illegal curve. Denis played with the Blackhawks for many years and he had always wondered about Marty's blade. One of the ballsiest coaching moves in sports

      It was Carbonneau on the bench who tipped Demers off. Makes sense since he’s a centreman always looking down at guys sticks in face off. There are videos of it where you distinctly hear Carbo say “Robitaille puis McSorley”. Guess Demers didn’t want hang his fellow Quebecer out to dry and chose McSorley.😅

      So let’s get this straight. The 1930’s, 40’s, 50’s 60’s, 70’s 80’s basically had the same style of goaltending play. Equipment throughout those decades became “modern”. The style changed because of the advancement of a thing called COACHING & the style of coaching

    • @jpwjr1199
      @jpwjr1199 3 роки тому +3

      @@SN-nh6pq Bullshit. The modern style of coaching is too have the goalie equipment clog up as much of the net opening as possible all of the time. It's not about positioning to make a save/or an actual play on the puck per se, it's mostly just clogging the net opening almost like the Fat Albert/sumo wrestler joke. And this isn't just coming from me.
      Ken Dryden knows a thing or 2 about goaltending, don't you think?
      www.theatlantic.com/culture/archive/2021/02/hockey-goalies-are-too-big-now/618021/
      And don't just read the headline, which is somewhat misleading - read the actual article.
      Did the coaching change during those decades you're talking about? Sure, the slapshot was invented, so goalies would have had to have adjusted; however, the hybrid stuff or literally being able to play the position of goalie from your knees would have been impossible in the 1980's. You read the article, yet? Don't take from me. Let the 6 time Cup champion in 8 years tell you.

      @cjspillmann5576 3 роки тому +2

      @@jpwjr1199 I agree with everything your saying except the positioning doesn't matter anymore bit. The modern style is all about positioning. Play solid positioning and fill the net with big gear. To me it's the athletic/reactionary saves that were a staple of the position prior to 2000 that aren't as common now.

    It was bad enough that the Kings beat three Canadian teams before finally falling to the Habs. It could have been Leafs-Habs, Canucks-Habs, even Flames-Habs in the finals. I am not sure we can have that opportunity again. Sure, the Kings got lucky on the Kerry Fraser non-call vs the Leafs, plus a couple of lucky bounces of their own during that run. I am glad the Habs won the series in the end. I believe they wore the Kings down as the series went on, maybe the Habs come back from 0-2 down? We all know Gretzky robbed us (Leaf fans) a Stanley birth since '67. Can't explain it but dominant teams sometimes buckle when they face certain teams and Montreal sure did that when they faced the Leafs. Or more correctly, both teams seem to elevate their play on par with each other making the game(s) electrified. It's still true today between these two clubs. I would have put my money on the Leafs taking it in 7.

    The Kings shouldn’t have been there in the first place. Glad they got SMOKED. Montreal / Toronto would have been THE series.
    Nobody cared about this series.
    NOBODY.
    Ratings went way down because nobody watched it.

    That's life. What ifs are illogical, and a stupid way of looking at how things work out. It's are way of trying to justify fate and pretend that we are in control when in fact we control NOTHING.

    Wow. Kelly is a lot less of a douche when he's at home.
    On CBC he's an insufferable, arrogant, and abrasive loudmouth...but here he's super chill and honest.
